Nearly three years after the onset of the pandemic, Bro Safari and Armanni Reign’s quarantine project has come to light.
Uniting under their Last Rhetoric alias, the two longtime collaborators have released a new album, Old Tales, the product of years of memories on the road, laboring in the studio and perseverance through personal challenges.
During the global lockdown period, Bro Safari was reckoning with more than just the isolation. The famed DJ and producer had announced a public hiatus in 2019 that led him to reexamine his mental health and lifestyle choices before returning in 2022. Since his return, Old Tales is by far his most ambitious and personal artistic offering to date.
Reflecting on the release of the album, Bro Safari championed Reign’s talents, calling him “criminally underrated.” It’s easy to see why. The wordsmith is uncompromising in viscerally delivering his truth, using his time on tracks like “Apple Juice” to reflect on vulnerable, formative moments in his past.
Overwhelmingly, however, Reign’s delivery exudes an invincible sense of confidence and bulletproof perseverance. Bro Safari’s production feeds off the energy with punchy, old school hip-hop drum kits and atmospheric melodies. Moments like the outro, “Overflowing,” feel especially reaffirming that the two are opening up a prosperous new chapter of collaboration.
“On a personal level it means everything to me to finally be able to spotlight the incredible vocal and lyrical talents of Armanni Reign,” Bro Safari said of the project. “I hope you guys get to see what I’ve always seen.”
