When Streetwear Meets Dark Electronic Music: A Lookbook by SKYLER

If electronic music is SKYLER’s love language, fashion is her quill.
The surging DJ and producer has been on a roll, garnering support from industry heavyweights like Alison Wonderland, ILLENIUM, Krewella and Flux Pavilion. Last week SKYLER fanned the flames of the hype with a brand new EP, Blue Dream, out now by way of Monstercat.
Fueled by relentless bass and spellbinding synths, the enthralling EP was inspired by the metaphysical concepts associated with dreaming. Dark, edgy cuts like “Hit My Line” reflect the unapologetic badassery of their creator, a queer artist rising through the male-dominated ranks of bass music.
“This EP is a reflection of every subliminal feeling I’ve felt or harbored within the past few years,” SKYLER says. “Color is said to be one of the many elements in dreams that represents significant mental and emotional depths of the human psyche, so for me, each one of these tracks represents a different real-time emotion or experience that I’ve gone through.”
When she’s not performing or producing music, SKYLER uses fashion as a creative outlet. As the 2023 music festival season roars on, we’ve teamed up with her for an exclusive lookbook featuring her top streetwear fits.
Read on to discover SKYLER’s favorite looks, in her own words.
I believe you can apply streetwear to any occasion, even festivals. A simple cropped tank paired with fun, vibrant reflective cargo pants is an easy W for summer festivals. You won’t be too hot and you’ll still feel swaggy. Also, I don’t live by the rules that Jordan’s can’t get dirty – wear them in and enjoy life in them!

I love this look because it is inspired by UK street-style with a loose knit and carpenter pants for a grunge look. As you see in my style, I love wearing different bandanas because there are so many ways to pair them. It’s an easy accessory that dresses up any look. They also come in clutch if you’re having a bad hair day as an alternative to a hat.

Motosport-inspired jackets are an essential for any streetwear closet. They are always a statement piece that turn heads. Depending how you style the jacket, you can keep it casual and comfy with a hoodie and jogger set or dress it up like I did here by wearing it off the shoulder with baggy jeans and a cropped look. I also love matching my shoe color with an added pop of color that I’m already wearing just as an added eye-candy bonus.

I am a big stan of sets. Some days pairing an outfit head-to-toe just isn’t in my cards. There isn’t anywhere I go without at least one matching top and bottom or a full-body boiler/jump suit. Make them feel new with accessories like sunglasses, hats, and pairing with different undergarments.

This look is from my most recent press photoshoot and I love this look because I made streetwear feel editorial. The way I achieved this was through the material choices. I used a v-cut mock neck bodysuit and silk head scarf to make my fit look sleek on camera, and paired it with trendy forest green chiffon parachute pants as well as a waist body chain.
