Martin Garrix, jaakob reunite after eight years for the latter’s STMPD RCRDS debut, ‘Mind CNTRL’ – Dancing Astronaut

Martin Garrix packed 10 IDs in his luggage for his trip to Miami, bringing everything from an opening ID alongside Seth Hills to a reunion with Third Party to—of course—the grand unveiling of a long overdue meeting with Alesso (and Shaun Farrugia). And a little over three weeks since the STMPD RCRDS head resumed his Friday night closing duties at Ultra—seven years after his famed 2016 set—and the first of those 10 IDs is officially off the board with jaakob‘s “Mind CNTRL.”

If the name jaakob isn’t immediately familiar, hopefully the name Jake Liedo rings a bell. Both happen to be the same person. After being behind an iconic rework of “Forbidden Voices” in 2015, Liedo decided to start from scratch in the the midst of the pandemic. And just a few years later—having been previously championed by the likes of MORTEN and with five originals to his credit in the time since—jaakob now has his STMPD RCRDS debut. Inspired by Swedish House Mafia’s “Greyhound,” “Mind CNTRL” didn’t originate at Bayfront Park, with Garrix actually welcoming the powerful cut a month earlier at EDC Mexico, with Garrix knowing it deserved a mashup placement alongside “Lions In the Wild” at Ultra and bringing everything full circle.
