On New “DREAM SOUP” Album, Mindchatter Muses on the Inevitability of “Cosmic Slush” – EDM.com

From the very first notes of his sophomore album, DREAM SOUP, Mindchatter evokes an uneasy thematic distinction between the ego and the corporeal, identification and notion.
“I forgot who I used to be. I want that that may final, however now I am again,” he croons over luscious bass beats on DREAM SOUP‘s opening monitor, “Human Form.”
A pattern of an individual’s heavy respiration lays beneath these lyrics, seemingly bracing themselves for what’s to return: “My pores and skin is admittedly clay. I mould myself to human form for practicality,” Mindchatter moodily muses.
It has been simply three years since Mindchatter launched his debut single, “Trippy.” Now, with DREAM SOUP, out by way of Thoughts of a Genius, we see him all grown up, gently probing the true nature of the self on every of the undertaking’s 13 indietronica tracks. The wistful ballad “Sticks and Stones,” for instance, toys with the various lives we dwell whereas lucid.

Even with these larger questions, Mindchatter retains issues playful with vivid bells and whistles on tracks like “Math,” which has a sultry, syncopated association ready-made for the membership. “Too Little, Too Late” interpolates a trippy reverb, whereas “Starlight” contrasts uneasy, robotic arpeggios with feathery vox.
DREAM SOUP is replete with originality, transferring with such a freeform rhythm and timbre that it is as if they have been possessed by kids’s toys: boomwhackers, slide whistles, pop and groan tubes. Mindchatter, in truth, wrote, produced and sang on the complete report.
Altogether, DREAM SOUP is surrealist, heady and complicated. It embodies far-reaching inspirations from Rex Orange County and Nonetheless Woozy (“Nothing On Me”) to Bedouin and WhoMadeWho (“Glide”), in addition to French home mainstays like Polo & Pan (“It is OK [It’s Not OK]”). And whereas these numerous influences could not cease a few of its songs from bleeding collectively, DREAM SOUP seems like one mind, one second, one large tangle of reflections—maybe precisely because it’s purported to.
“We’re all product of cosmic slush and shortly return to only that,” Mindchatter defined in a press launch. “The perfect moments in life are those after we are freed from ourselves.”
Catch DREAM SOUP dwell later this 12 months on Mindchatter’s headlining North American tour, which can even contact down at Coachella and Electrical Forest for his first-ever performances on these milestone phases. Tickets are on sale here.
