Judge sees no evidence that Soundgarden are withholding royalties from Vicky Cornell

A judge in Vicky Cornell’s lawsuit against Soundgarden has seen no evidence that the band’s surviving members are withholding royalties from their late frontman’s widow.

In December 2019, Cornell sued the band, claiming they were “withholding hundreds of thousand of dollars in royalties” and that the band’s manager Rit Venerus was working against her after she gained control of her late husband’s estate in 2017.

Now, Billboard reports that Washington state district judge Michelle Peterson found that Venerus is “not [Cornell’s] advisor,” and there is no evidence to suggest that the band withheld any money from Cornell. Peterson’s report will now be sent to judge Robert S. Lasnik, who will make the final decision.

Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, and Ben Shepherd

Last month, Cornell filed another case in court against the band after they attempted to buy out her stake in her late husband’s band for what she has called a “ludicrously low” price.

According to Variety, the three remaining Soundgarden members offered Ms Cornell less than $300,000 (£217,000) for her share in the band’s masters, publishing royalties and other revenue. Vicky Cornell inherited her stake in the band’s profits following Chris Cornell’s passing in 2017.

“This action has been necessitated by the self-serving and heartless actions of the remaining members of the band Soundgarden, who are seeking to rob from their former bandmate, Chris Cornell (‘Chris’), his wife (‘Vicky’), and their minor children, Chris’ legacy and life’s worth, which has made them millions of dollars,” an excerpt from Cornell’s statement reads.

In yet another case between the two parties, the surviving members of Soungarden sued Cornell in 2020, alleging that she repurposed funds raised by a charity concert, organised as a tribute to her late husband, for her personal needs. The group subsequently dropped the lawsuit.

Skrillex Features On Yet Another Artist’s Album, Starrah’s Debut “The Longest Interlude”

While the EDM community was awaiting the Skrillex and Virtual Riot collaborations on Justin Bieber’s album last Friday, another artist’s work that also included Skrillex somewhat slipped under the radar. Justin Bieber’s Justice, including three tracks that Skrillex worked on, was released March 19. The debut album from Starrah, including the song “Twenty 4” with Skrillex, was released two days prior.

It’s not exactly surprising that Bieber garnered more fanfare than Starrah, but it is interesting that considering his Starrah collaboration has had more hype for longer, that it was a little overlooked.

Nevertheless, the album and its Skrillex feature are here now and still worth the listen if you haven’t done so yet.

Starrah says: “I put everything into this album because it’s my diary, the raw soundtrack to my life. The Longest Interlude describes a love story from the highs in the beginning, to the lows and hardships that most can relate to so I am super excited to share this with you all. This is a moment in time and a period of transition and possibilities.”

“Twenty 4” is a slow and dreamy song, with heavily modulated vocals and whimsical synths that feel like strolling through a magical forest, searching for … something, but not really knowing what it is.

Check that out below and listen to the full album here. Skrillex has promised more music coming soon.

Jason Ross, Blanke, and Chandler Leighton crown melodic supremacy with ‘One More Day’ – Dancing Astronaut Jason Ross, Blanke, and Chandler Leighton crown melodic supremacy with ‘One More Day’

Within the first few seconds of “One More Day’s” play during Seven Lions‘ momentous evening at The Gorge Amphitheatre, the thousands watching at home, us included, were well aware that it had “track of the year” potential. The seed for Jason Ross, Blanke, and Chandler Leighton‘s merger was actually planted just before COVID-19 latched itself onto everyone’s daily conversation, with the two production heads debuting an early variation at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium. Fast forward to just over a year later, and “One More Day” has found a permanent home on Ophelia Records.

Take a lone walkthrough and any clarification as to why “One More Day” captured a berth to Dancing Astronaut‘s most sought-after productions of 2021 would be wholly unnecessary. The cooperative plays up to the firepower of each of its three constituents, with Ross and Blanke fluently meshing their two respective tones of choice melodic dubstep and high-voltage bass, with the latter taking the reigns on its sophomore zenith for an essential hard-hitting changeup. It goes without saying, but Leighton deserves her own upfront acknowledgement, with the songstress’s vocals being the outright deciding factor that enables the guaranteed future classic to crane to an entirely different stratosphere of melodic supremacy. Sure, it might only be March, but its ripened arrival only reaffirms that “One More Day” is debatably the sole track for succeeding singles to unseat moving forward.

Nero Surprise Fans Again, Drop Live Show Edit ft Tame Impala & Tease More To Come

Nero surprised us all earlier this week with a fresh remix of Daft Punk’s “Emotion,” dedicated to the group that broke up earlier this year. Now, they’re back again with another live edit of Tame Impala’s “Disciples.”

“Here’s an Edit we were playing in our shows, circa 2016. Slightly reworked in 2021,” they said on Twitter.

This is the second surprise drop on Audius in the past week, but we’re in for more. A not-so-subtle “(2/5)” on the tweet indicated that there’s still at least three more to come and with Daft Punk and Tame Impala already under their belt, we can’t wait to hear what else they pull out of their bag of tricks. Will they be live show edits? New remixes? Demo originals never released? The sky’s the limit.

Check out their edit of “Disciples” below!

David Byrne curates socially distanced dance club in New York

David Byrne is giving New Yorkers the chance to rave again after helping to curated a socially distanced dance club.

The Talking Heads icon has joined forces with Broadway set designer Christine Jones and choreographer Steven Hoggett to launch SOCIAL!, a new experimental club at the Park Avenue Armory.

100 attendees will be invited to the venue’s Wade Thompson Drill Hall at a time to enjoy their own dance moves, or to take in a spoken choreography voiceover from Byrne himself.

The event, which was specially commissioned for the Armory’s new launched Social Distance Hall, also features a playlist that has been personally curated by Byrne himself, Jones and Hoggett, and mixed by DJ Natasha Diggs.

Rebecca Robertson, Founding President and Executive Producer of Park Avenue Armory, said: “The Armory’s commitment to supporting and partnering with artists in the creation of new works that are responsive to society is a foundational component of who we are as an organization.

“The commissioned work that is part of Social Distance Hall exists, not despite of, but because of the pandemic that we have all been living through over the last year.”

“With SOCIAL!, we are delighted to invite New Yorkers to come together through a communal, safe, and multisensory experience that draws on the building’s acoustics and grand architecture, and the Armory’s cross-disciplinary programming mission.”

Late last year, Byrne spoke to NME about the prospect of a Talking Heads reunion – admitting that “differences” in the group would prevent it from happening.

” I think, as is evident in [the American Utopia] film, I’m having a pretty good time doing what I’m doing,” he said.

AREA21 [Martin Garrix & Maejor] Drop Cryptic Teaser Signaling New Music

AREA21 (Martin Garrix and Maejor) are readying for a big comeback.

Just yesterday the duo sent out an email blast and video on social media with a distorted message — “Hello. We are coming. On a mission to — [static] Can you hear us? Will you join us?” Although the teaser is rather cryptic, those who have been following the project closely know this message signals new music.

Last year, Garrix revealed: “We basically made a whole album.”

“The new stuff is not super electronic,” he described of AREA21’s sound. “It’s like Gorillaz meets Outkast meets little bit of Daft Punk. It’s very playful.”

AREA21 first came on the scene in 2016 with the project’s debut single “Spaceships.” They followed up with more singles, including “Glad You Came,” “We Did It,” and most recently, “HELP” in 2019.

We’re all ears for what comes next. Check out the teaser below.
