Outside Lands 2021 Postponed to Halloween Weekend

To no surprise, many summer festivals are getting cold feet in light of the pandemic, continuing to push their events to a later date due to the impact of COVID-19. Outside Lands is the latest major festival brand to postpone its 2021 edition.

Alesso partners with PUBG for video game original, ‘Going Dumb’ with CORSAK and Stray KidsAlesso partners with PUBG for video game original, ‘Going Dumb’ with CORSAK and Stray Kids – Dancing Astronaut

When Alesso prefaced that the year would be swarmed with new music, no one had a reason to question him. Just one month removed from the Swede’s merger with Armin van Buuren, Alesso is racking up his second release of 2021 in the form of a partnership with global battle royale game, PUBG.

Serving up a side-by-side pair of “Going Dumb” versions, one with the vocal backing of CORSAK and one with the assistance of K-pop group Stray Kids, similar to his Ninjawerks appearance, “Tilted Towers,” for Fortnite back in 2018, PUBG enlisted Alesso to soundtrack the in-game experience. If the first handful of months of the year are any indication of what his release agenda will look like in the near future, his coveted trinity of Ultra Taiwan IDs should hopefully be making their arrival sooner than later.

COSMIC GATE return with new deep, progressive gem “BLAME” featuring DIANO MIRO

Premiered during their Miami Open Skies Livestream last weekend, GRAMMY-nominated electronic music act Cosmic Gate’s first 2021 single finally arrives. Given lyrical & vocal smoulder by singer/songwriter Diana Miro, it finds Nic & Bossi bringing music with a more introspective edge. Marked out with dramatically drawn strings, pulsing percs, twisted synths and sub-bass-boom, over seven mood-brooding minutes, the track moves emotively from simmer to sear.

On the striking lyrics that lie at the heart of ‘Blame’s story, Diana Miro said: “I wrote this song when one of my friends was struggling with plans – again – not coming to life. It’s a sad situation, but I always ask myself: do we really need what we want, as nowadays others influence most of our desires. We endlessly spin in this social media “mill” and it’s so hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. At least music always stays true to us. I’m so happy this song has landed with Cosmic Gate. They’ve produced an amazing deep sound that truly reflects the mood of our times. I can’t wait to share it with the world!

‘Blame’ wasn’t the only unboxing Nic & Bossi did during the Miami’s Open Skies show, with an end-of-set reveal that a new Cosmic Gate album was in the advanced stages of production. With ‘Blame’ as it’s lead single and an eye on an early summer release, ‘MOSAIIK’ – their eleventh long-player – will bring even more ‘forward ever backward never’ to our Cosmic cosmos.

Benny The Butcher and Harry Fraud share new album ‘The Plugs I Met 2’

Benny The Butcher has released his new album ‘The Plugs I Met 2’ – you can listen to it below.

The nine-track project, which arrives four months after Benny was shot during an attempted robbery, features guest verses from the likes of 2 Chainz, Fat Joe, French Montana, Jim Jones and late rapper Chinx.

Unlike the first volume of ‘The Plugs I Met’ which had Alchemist, Daringer and a number of others handling the beats, the sequel to the Griselda rapper’s 2019 project is produced entirely by New York’s Harry Fraud.

Although it was recorded at the same time as last year’s critically acclaimed, Hit-Boy-produced ‘Burden Of Proof’ album, Benny said the energy on his latest effort is very different.

“I recorded ‘Burden Of Proof’ in Cali with Hit-Boy and ‘The Plugs I Met 2’ in Brooklyn with Harry and you can hear that influence,” Benny explained. “I came in as an underdog, to filling out my position as one of the elite rhymers in the industry. ‘Plugs 2’ expands upon that mindset; the same confidence, same attitude, cocky, but I still have something to prove”

“‘Plugs 2’ is the story of a hustler who has realised success but understands how fragile it is,” added Harry Fraud. “Lyrically, the album shows Benny reflecting on what he’s sacrificed to get here and what he’ll need to do to continue his rise to the top.”

He concluded: “With this project, we set out to transport the listener into a world that was lush, but still gritty, triumphant, but still emotional and sonically diverse across the board.”

You can listen to ‘The Plugs I Met 2’ below:

To celebrate the release of the album, Benny also shared a new video for ‘Plug Talk’ featuring 2 Chainz. You can watch the Wizard-directed video below.

Earlier this month, Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats released new album ‘Unlocked 1.5’, which is a reimagining of their 2020 collaboration ‘Unlocked’.

The new version of the eight-track EP features a number of guest appearances from the likes of Benny The Butcher, Arlo Parks, Joey Bada$$ and more.

Meanwhile, Benny’s Griselda crew mate Conway The Machine recently hinted that a collaboration with Eminem and The Alchemist could be on the way.

The US rapper said he was “just here for the comments” when he was asked why he had re-tweeted the rumour from his own account. No official confirmation of a collaboration has been given.

KRYDER brings major new vibes with MARK ROMA on ‘Pleasure or Pain’

Kryder worked it up big last year, with his artistic district extending to releases on Axtone, Spinnin’, and Musical Freedom. Echoing the sonic nature of his latest though, the spoils of his first for 2021 have gone to Black Hole, with the Dutch giant inking ‘Pleasure Or Pain’.

Since ‘K2’, Kryder’s been able to genre-surf at will, with his most recent remix work (on ilan Bluestone & Maor Levi’s ‘Hold On’ and Solarstone’s ‘When I Dream’) putting him in a trancier state of mind. That’s tipped over into his own music, and most specifically into the trance-progressive trappings of ‘Pleasure Or Pain’.

For the track, he’s drafted in Mark Roma and the pair ride its stylistic knife-edge with precision, never allowing it to definitively rest in one genre-area or other. Metallic sub-melodies sit atop its purposeful tempo, while the no-prisoners-taken bass freights the production and its sweeping filters beckon the track’s drop. Triggered snares, pad & chord intensity and drum-punch increase its pulse before Kryder & Mark bring its vocals into play.

“The world we know is changing”, observes ‘Pleasure Or Pain’s vocal, before its lyrics start touching on some of life’s larger questions. Echoing thoughts we’re all likely to have entertained of late, it brilliantly mixes raw emotion with naked realism. Out of the break, Kryder & Mark sail the track from its beatific pad-soaked drop and return it to feistier and more floor-forceful waters.

Watch John Oates and Saxsquatch perform unlikely ‘Maneater’ team-up

John Oates has released a new version of Hall & Oates’ ‘Maneater’, updating the classic track via an EDM collaboration with a saxophone-playing sasquatch.

Speaking of the unusual collaboration in a statement (via Ultimate Classic Rock), Oates explained: “I’ve had a lot of otherworldly experiences in my career, but none as mystical and magical as this collab with the amazing, soulful Saxsquatch. He brings the funk out of the forest and puts a smile on the face of the world. Meeting him in the woods to shoot the video was a life-changing moment.

“As soon as we began recording, I knew we had something special. The mark of a good song is that it can be reimagined in lots of ways, and this is, without a doubt, the coolest version I’ve ever heard.”

The 1982 single originally featured Daryl Hall on lead vocals, but – in a departure from tradition that extends beyond the addition of a person dressed as a mythological sax-wielding primate – Oates sings on this version.

Watch Oates and Saxsquatch perform together in the music video below:

Saxsquatch added in a statement: “I like music that gets people’s big feet tapping along. It’s been a tough year for everyone. We could all use music and stories that help us dance and feel less alone. I know a lot about feeling alone.”

Speaking to Forbes in a new interview with the duo, Saxsquatch elaborated on the importance of ‘Maneater’ in his life.

“My whole life, this song has been in my family,” he said. “My grandfather, his name was Gigfoot, he played this song on his guitar all the time, with him singing it.

“I come from a very musical family and I would play this song actually on Valentine’s Day, every day because women always break my heart. You know? The female quatches are ruthless.”

In September last year, Miley Cyrus covered ‘Maneater’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Explaining why she chose to cover the iconic track, she joked: “I think it’s very important to be transparent. I’m freshly single, so anyone watching that’s my future ex-husband, just know, I told you.”

The first collection, Human Nature (Day) is out now and Human Nature (Night) follows April 16th.

ABRACADABRA‘s new compilation and ongoing series of events have been inspired by the lack of physical interaction. Born out of the necessity to keep the party alive, and with the intent to keep the community connected, ABRACADABRA TV is hosting a mini-festival and listening party with 50+ hours of live music and entertainment — happening right now.

BLOND:ISH shares:

I can’t wait to connect with my fans again. Human Nature is what inspired us to take ABRACADABRA online. Last year when lockdown started, I had a prophetic dream that I needed to start streaming to connect the collective through music. That’s how this all came together. We were live for a year straight! Now we’re back and excited to keep the party going.

Co-founder Liana Hillison adds:

ABRACADABRA is an extension of our souls. We put our hearts and passions into it to create a deeply connected and authentic experience. Our Human Nature weekender is a magical occasion to see these intentional sounds played live for the first time, really giving a feel for who we are, what we aspire to share and how we can all evolve together.

Sting says he regrets Police reunion, labels it “an exercise in nostalgia”

Sting has said he regrets reforming The Police in 2007, labelling it “an exercise in nostalgia”.

The ‘Every Breath You Take’ hitmaker reunited with bandmates Andy Summers and Stuart Copeland in 2007, 19 years after they split, and then embarked on a global tour the year after.

Speaking in a new interview, Sting discussed reuniting with his bandmates and how the tour didn’t leave him feeling the way he hoped it would.

“At the time I labelled the tour an exercise in nostalgia. That was simply how I felt and is still how I feel today,” he told Reader’s Digest. “I think it’s OK to be honest about your feelings and that was the way it went for me.”

He continued: “That’s not a slight on the people I was with or the way things panned out, it’s just how I saw it by the end, and let’s be honest, that’s not how I wanted to remember it.

“If I thought that would be the emotion I’d be leaving with, I wouldn’t have done it in the first place.”

Sting then explained that he loves being a solo artist because of the “total freedom” it offers. “I think there is a freedom in being a solo artist,” he said. “It’s not a power thing, at all, it’s just about producing exactly the brand and style of music that feels right for you.

“Music, in every form, is a collaborative process, but never more so than in a band, where you have to consider other people almost more than you do yourself. To have total career freedom is, for me, the ultimate thrill of being a solo artist.”

Meanwhile, Sting, Billie Joe Armstrong and Sleater-Kinney are among the special guests who will feature on the upcoming new series of Audible’s Words + Music.
