Chloe x Halle have shared a new Ray Charles cover – listen to their version of ‘Georgia on My Mind’ below.

The cover version was recorded for an ESPN commercial ahead of the Masters golf tournament, which is set to be held in Augusta, Georgia next month (April 5-11).

In a statement discussing the new song, the pair said: “We are happy to be given the opportunity to record our version of the timeless ‘Georgia On My Mind’ for the Masters Tournament.”

Listen to the version below.

Last September, Chloe x Halle enlisted Doja Cat, City Girls and Mulatto for a remix of their single, ‘Do It’.

‘Do It’ was originally released as the lead single to Chloe x Halle’s second studio album, ‘Ungodly Hour’, which came out in June 2020.

Elsewhere, the pair dressed up as Spice Girls‘ Scary and Posh respectively for a televised performance of ‘Do It’ at the 2020 GLAAD Awards.

Joining the sisters were three notable RuPaul’s Drag Race alum – Naomi Smalls as Ginger Spice, Mayhem Miller as Baby Spice and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo as Sporty Spice.

Ray Charles’ ‘Georgia On My Mind’ was sung by John Legend after the state turned from Republican to Democrat in the 2020 US presidential election, helping to seal Joe Biden‘s victory over Donald Trump.

On Twitter, Legend shared the two-minute cover of the track, performed at his kitchen table. At the end of the performance, he said: I love you, Georgia”.

After the cover was posted, Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen joked on Twitter that her husband “has been waiting to post this for five hours” as the election results from the state rolled in.

Katy Perry set to hold Las Vegas residency at new casino

Katy Perry is reportedly set to take up residency in Las Vegas later this year.

The singer, who released her latest album ‘Smile’ last year, will follow in the footsteps of some of music’s biggest stars, including Lady Gaga and Elton John.

According to Billboard, Perry will take up residency at the new Resorts World casino in Vegas, which contains a 5,000-seater venue. The venue is being run in partnership with promoter giants AEG.

Specific details of Perry’s residency have not yet been revealed, but Resorts World is set to open this summer, and her residency is expected to begin towards the end of 2021 and run into 2022.

Perry’s new album came out last year. Reviewing ‘Smile’ upon its release in August, NME wrote: “While Perry has returned to her tried-and-tested formula of vivid pop, there’s a missing ingredient.

“It’s frustrating, as this is the woman behind some of the most fun – and biggest-selling – songs of all time. But as much as you want ‘Smile’ to be a return to form, her fifth album’s songs fail to grip. All in all, ‘Smile’ lacks the fireworks of Perry’s record-breaking years.”

In the wake of the album, the singer has also revealed that she’s planning on releasing an access-all-areas documentary focusing on the “juicy” parts of her life, inspired by her former nemesis Taylor Swift, and her 2019 Netflix documentary Miss Americana.

“At first there was a thought about putting something out, but as time goes on the story gets juicier,” Perry said. “I say that because I think that ‘Witness’ time of my life is just one chapter in a very large book that is yet to be finished.”

Elsewhere, Katy Perry recently joined the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Pokémon. She joined Post Malone, Katy Perry and J Balvin in featuring on a special anniversary record to mark the celebration, titled ‘Pokémon 25: The Album’.

She was also among the number of live performers who played during the Celebrating America TV special to honour Joe Biden‘s presidential inauguration in January.

Grimes says her and Elon Musk’s child is already making “super fire” music

Grimes and Elon Musk’s child X AE A-XII will celebrate his first birthday in May, but is already making music, described as “super fire” by his mother.

Originally called X Æ A-12, the baby was then officially named X AE A-XII Musk, according to a birth certificate.

The official name came after Grimes revealed that she and Musk were asked to change their baby son’s name to comply with California law. Explaining the name, Grimes previously said that ‘X’ refers to “the unknown variable,” while ‘Æ’ is “my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)”.

On Thursday (March 18), Grimes celebrated her birthday, and in an Instagram post about the day, shared a video of X making a loop on a portable synthesiser. “Did you make a loop? You’re so smart!” Grimes says to her son in the clip.

In the post’s caption, she wrote: “Lil X made a loop on my keyboard? Prob an accident but tbh he played a super fire set just now.”

In other news, Grimes has reportedly signed to Columbia Records. A report claims that she’s made the switch to a major label, leaving 4AD, the label she released her most successful projects to date, ‘Visions’ (2012), ‘Art Angels’ (2015) and ‘Miss Anthropocene’ (2020).

In 2018, Grimes hit out at 4AD, promising that ‘Miss Anthropocene’ would be her “final album for my shit label” and looked forward to its follow-up, which she said would be “my first album on a label of my choosing which im crazy stoked about”. She later apologised for the message.

In a four-star review of ‘Miss Anthropocene’, NME‘s Rhian Daly wrote: “Grimes takes on 21st Century celebrity, environmentalism and – most knotty of all – romantic love. This is a record stuffed with imagination and packed with beauty.”

Steve Aoki, Kiiara & Wiz Khalifa Reboot Matchbox Twenty Hit with “Used To Be” Collab [LISTEN]

Steve Aoki x Kiiara x Wiz Khalifa has arrived!

The mega collab titled “Used To Be” is an unexpected twist on the Matchbox Twenty hit “Unwell.” Resonating in new form, the styles of Aoki, Kiiara, and Wiz are strongly represented, all finding a sweet spot in the reimagination of a 2002 classic.

Nearly two decades later, the nostalgia hasn’t worn off as Kiiara takes the reins on familiar vocals, making them her own. Trading the gritty edge of “Unwell” for a bright, EDM-pop soundscape, Aoki adds his golden touch to the production and Wiz lays down a signature verse.
