SNAILS – Slime Time EP

A true household name by this point in the bass world, Frédérik Durand, better known as SNAILS has collaborated with the likes of Skrillex, Jack Ü, Flux Pavillion, NGHTMRE, Collie Buddz, Waka Flocka Flame and Zeds Dead since his start on the scene in 2015. The renowned bass music artist and Montreal native released his highly-anticipated new SLIME TIME EP recently. The 3-track offering marks a return to the international DJ and producer’s musical roots — the metal-inspired sub-genre he created and his fans dubbed as “Vomitstep.” Last month, SNAILS released the filthy synth and thunderous bass-filled lead single of the project, “FROGKIND,” after a year-long hiatus. SLIME TIME also includes two new records, “BRAINFARTS” and “GASTROPODZ.” “BRAINFARTS” showcases the relentless, growly bass that SNAILS has become known for while incorporating the lyrics, “too much bass in your face makes you crazy.” The EP’s final offering, “GASTROPODZ,” delivers punchy and maddening synths that will be a treat for bass enthusiasts everywhere. Check out his new EP after the jump!

REPORT: Coachella Moving from October 2021 to April 2022

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is reportedly moving once again, from October 2021 to April 2022.

Inside sources tell Variety the postponement is tied to ongoing uncertainty in the industry due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. While some festivals and events have announced 2021 returns, Coachella seems to be playing it safe.

This could be because California’s health/safety protocols are more strict than some other parts of the country. Welcoming 125,000 attendees has potential to create “immeasurable possibilities for disease transmission,” according to the report.

In addition, without touring headliners, Coachella may struggle to book the big names it’s known for bringing in. The Weeknd is used as an example in the Variety piece, as his After Hours tour — the first major tour on the books — is planned for January.

If Coachella’s rescheduling is true, the festival moves back into its original cycle, taking place over two weekends in April. Goldenvoice‘s country music festival Stagecoach is reportedly set to reschedule as well for the following weekend.

Variety cites two unnamed industry sources in an exclusive report, although promoter Goldenvoice and parent company AEG Presents have not provided official statements.

Ringo Starr says Billie Eilish is an “incredible musician”

Ringo Starr has hailed Billie Eilish, calling the singer an “incredible musician”.

Starr presented Eilish with the award for Record Of The Year for ‘Everything I Wanted’ at the Grammys 2021 on Sunday (March 14) after she beat Megan Thee Stallion to the gong.

Speaking about the singer on a Zoom Q&A ahead of the release of his forthcoming ‘Zoom In’ EP, Starr said: “It was a great pleasure for me to do the Grammys on Sunday and presenting the Best Record to Billie Eilish who I think is just incredible, and Finneas who came through for me on my EP. It was great to meet her and musically she’s great. She’s a beautiful human being.”

When Eilish was named as the winner, she honoured Megan in her speech. “This is really embarrassing for me,” she began, addressing the rapper. “I was gonna write a speech about how you deserve this but then I was like ‘there’s no way they’re gonna choose me’. I was like, ‘it’s hers!’ You deserve this.

“You had a year that I think is incomparable. You are a queen. I wanna cry thinking about how much I love you. You’re so beautiful, you’re so talented. You deserve everything in the world. I think about you constantly. I root for you always. You deserve it, honestly. Genuinely, this goes to her.”

The star also won the award for Best Song Written For Visual Media for her Bond theme ‘No Time To Die’. At the start of the main ceremony, Eilish performed ‘Everything I Wanted’ from on top of a car.

This comes after fellow former Beatle Paul McCartney described Eilish as “very special“.

The digital press conference also saw Starr criticise the 1970 Beatles documentary Let It Be for being “too miserable”. This comes ahead of a new film helmed by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson – who took over 56 hours of footage from that era and made it into the forthcoming The Beatles: Get Back documentary.

Starr meanwhile releases his five track ‘Zoom In’ EP which is out today (March 19). It was recorded at Starr’s home studio between April and October in 2020, featuring contributions from McCartney, Dave Grohl, Finneas, Sheryl Crow, Jenny Lewis, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Stapleton and Corinne Bailey Rae.

Coachella reportedly pushed back again to 2022

California’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival is reportedly sitting out again this year, postponing the event until 2022.

As reported by Variety, two industry sources have told the publication that the 2021 instalment of the festival won’t be going ahead, and it’s likely that the country music-themed iteration Stagecoach will also be postponed.

The speculation is yet to be confirmed by the festival’s promoter Goldenvoice, or its parent company AEG, who declined Variety‘s requests for comment.

According to the sources, the decision to reschedule the event is due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and uncertainty about the logistics of holding a large-scale event during this time. While other festivals across the US such as Governers Ball and Outside Lands have been promoting their events, putting together Coachella – which sells 125,000 tickets a day across both weekends – would require navigating a large number of COVID-safety challenges.

“There’s a big difference between having two weekend of Coachella in California and throwing a country festival in Florida,” one of the sources told Variety.

If the reschedule is confirmed it’ll be the fourth postponement of Coachella in 12 months. Last year, the festival initially moved from its original April dates to October amid concerns over the growing COVID-19 pandemic.

Months later in June, it was announced that the event’s 2020 iteration had been axed entirely and new dates were proposed for April 2021. Rumours then began circling that the event was again being postponed until October 2021, although these were never publicly confirmed by promoters.

In January this year, Riverside County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser signed a cancelation order, which scrapped any hope for the April 2021 dates.

“This order is intended to reduce the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19, thereby slowing the spread of COVID-19 in communities worldwide,” he said at the time.

“If COVID-19 were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the nature of the venue would make it infeasable, if not impossible, to track those who may be placed at risk.”
