Nadine Coyle confirms Girls Aloud reunion is on hold

Girls Aloud‘s proposed reunion has been put on hold while Sarah Harding continues her treatment for breast cancer, Nadine Coyle has confirmed.

The pop group – also including Cheryl, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – had been planning to reunite for their 20th anniversary next year, but will now focus their attention on supporting Harding through her illness.

Speaking to The Sun‘s Bizarre column, Coyle said: “I would love to be like, ‘Yes, this is what we’re doing’. At the minute, it’s very much thinking about Sarah, being there for Sarah.

“It’s a really unfortunate time for her and the whole thing is like, ‘Come on, come on’, because then that could be the priority – talking about, ‘Should we do a tour? Should we do something?’ Instead we’re worried about Sarah.

“We’re just focusing everything there. That is the main priority.”

Harding was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and shared the news with fans in August, at which point the disease had spread to other parts of her body.

The 39-year-old singer has been working on a book, titled Hear Me Out, and yesterday (March 13) shared an extract, published by The Times, in which she said that doctors have told her Christmas 2020 “would probably be [her] last.”

In a foreword interview, Harding said she had had a mastectomy and chemotherapy and was being looked after by her mother. “Nothing is certain any more,” she said. “I’m just grateful to wake up every day and live my best life because now I know just how precious it is.”

In the excerpt, Harding explained that “for a while, it seemed like the chemo was working,” but that a later MRI scan had revealed another tumour – “either at the base of my spine or on my brain”. A second MRI revealed another tumour.

The star joined Girls Aloud during their initial creation on the reality show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, and continued to perform with them until they broke up in 2013.

Doja Cat’s Massive Hit “Streets” Gets Disclosure Remix Treatment [LISTEN]

Disclosure completely transform Doja Cat‘s bass heavy “Streets” with a fresh, new remix.

Aside from the lyrics, the track is almost unrecognizable in this house lift, as the duo adds in groovy textures and a thumping beat to better suit their style. Opening up with familiar vocal chops and into Doja Cat’s flow, this “Streets” remix maintains a catchy, sensual nature throughout.

Doja Cat’s “Streets” absolutely exploded on TikTok and has become a massive hit, so the fact Disclosure’s remix holds its own is really saying something. Days ago, the official music video dropped, only adding to the track’s staying power.

Dillon Francis enters the remix ring to take on Dua Lipa’s ‘We’re Good’ – Dancing Astronaut Dillon Francis enters the remix ring to take on Dua Lipa’s ‘We’re Good’

Another day, another ride on the remix train for Dillon Francis, who’s remained particularly hot on the edits end since the mid-pandemic’s “Bored In The House” moment. On the heels of that viral instance, he was recruited by TikTok-star-turned-pop-star Dixie D’Amelio for a jubilant rework of “Be Happy,” and he’s since dropped a VIP mix of his single “Be Somebody,” a joint EP with Drove (one-half of TV Noise) on STMPD records, and more.

The latest rendition from the renowned producer is a remix of Dua Lipa‘s “We’re Good,” one of the standouts from her Moonlight version of Future Nostalgia. Francis takes the original’s mild tempo and pop mannerisms to a dark yet groovy place. Featuring bright piano rhythms, what seems primed to be a staple disco track turns into a vocal-chopping, deep synth-led house track.

In other Francis news, the IDGAFOS figurehead was recently confirmed for Lollapalooza‘s 2021 Stockholm lineup and even directed his iconic “Harder, Better, Faster” remix to Audius in the wake of Daft Punk’s split.

Thundercat teams up with Ace Hashimoto on new track ‘Vaporwaves’

Thundercat has teamed up with Chicago-born producer and singer Ace Hashimoto on a new song – watch the video for ‘Vaporwaves’ below.

The track comes complete with an 8-bit video, which sees the pair riding in a car through a desert landscape.

Discussing the song, which is reportedly only going to be available on YouTube “for a limited time” after it originally appeared on Hashimoto’s Patreon page as an exclusive, the producer said: “This song is about existential crisis and I believe it was that concept that led me to feeling free enough to do things I’ve always wanted to do, while also being even more grateful for the things I CAN do.

“Basically, be aware of your own mortality. Remember, we’re all just human. And tell the people you care about, ‘I’m happy to have you in my life.’”

Thundercat released his latest full-length album ‘It Is What It Is’ last year. A four-star NME review of the album read: “‘It Is What It Is”s magic moment comes as Thundercat links up with Steve Lacy, Childish Gambino and ’80s funk hero Steve Arrington on ‘Black Qualls’; the disco-funk tune should be up for consideration as the best song of 2020.

“Its inclusion here gives a comforting indication that, for all of the album’s heavy rumination on life, death and healing, Thundercat can still kick back when required.”

Since that album, the bassist has teamed up with Haim on a new version of their track ‘3AM’ and penned a track for the revival of the TV show ThunderCats.

Thundercat is set to tour the UK this May, with a set of rescheduled dates including an upgraded London date at Brixton Academy.

Recording Academy Working to Include More Women in Music

The Recording Academy has teamed up with Berklee College of Music and Arizona State University to work on equal representation of women in the music industry.

As a first step, the Recording Academy is publicly reporting gender representation for the first time ever. All the 63rd annual Grammy nominations have been analyzed, revealing 23% of this year’s nominees identify as women.

In addition, three of the four artists with the most nominations this year are women. Beyoncé leads at nine, followed by Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Roddy Ricch with six each.

The Recording Academy has also welcomed 831 new women as voting members in recent years, bringing total representation to 33%.

Chief diversity, equity & inclusion officer, Valeisha Butterfield Jones, says the Academy is “doubling down” and “providing solutions” to increase the number of women working in the music space. She shares:

Women are key drivers in the economy and across all business and creative sectors in music, globally, yet we reflect 2 percent of producers and engineers. It’s our responsibility at the Academy to be the change that we seek and inspire progress within the industry.

The effort is built on Berklee’s 2019 study “Women in the U.S. Music Industry: Obstacles And Opportunities,” led by Erin Barra (director of popular music, Arizona State University / executive director, Beats By Girlz).

Claude VonStroke bolsters release of first-ever sample pack with production contest – Dancing Astronaut Claude VonStroke bolsters release of first-ever sample pack with production contest

House music producers have been sent a gift from the groove gods.

Dirtybird Records label head Claude VonStroke has released his very first sample pack, Claude’s Construction Vol. 1. Overflowing with the eclectic and quirky noises that VonStroke’s fans have come to know and love, this sample pack gives producers coveted insight into the house guru’s stylistic preferences. He notes,

“Many sample packs are based on a lot of single sounds, but this pack shows you how a typical VonStroke track is put together by providing all the core loops, midi and one shot sounds that go into creating a full concept. Music keys, BPM and information are all clearly labeled and the material is deconstructed from the smallest single elements all the way to the separated tracks that create the song ideas.”

Accompanying this exciting sample pack is a fantastic opportunity for beat makers to showcase their talent. VonStroke announced a production contest for producers using the sample pack, with the winner earning an official release on Dirtybird, a year-long subscription to Birdfeed, and spins on DIRTYBIRD LIVE TV and the Birdhouse Radio show hosted on Sirius XM. Claude’s Construction Vol. 1 can be downloaded here. Contestants can submit their demos to the contest here; the deadline to enter is April 15.

Listen to Future Islands cover Tina Turner’s ‘We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)’

Future Islands have shared a cover of Tina Turner’s track ‘We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)’, originally recorded for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Staying true to form, Future Islands have taken Turner’s pop-rock original and thrown in some synths to create an ’80s-style synthpop rendition. The cover was recorded for US broadcaster SiriusXM.

Listen to the cover below:

The cover comes weeks before the US premiere of TINA, the documentary centred around the singer’s life and career. The film will be released through HBO in the US on March 27, and a day later on Sky Documentaries and NOW TV.

Future Islands released their sixth studio album, ‘As Long As You Are’, in October last year. NME gave the album four stars upon its release, writing, “The indie heroes spin thrillingly off the tracks on a bruised sixth album that exudes the brilliance of their breakout 2014 song ‘Seasons (Waiting On You)’.”

“‘As Long As You Are’ maybe an unexpected handbrake turn for Future Islands and it may not be as hit-laden as its predecessor, but it’s a refreshing record in its own right and one that throws up plenty of existential quandaries.”

Earlier this year, the band confirmed that they are back in the studio working on their seventh record.

An Orchestral Candlelight Tribute to Daft Punk is Happening This Summer

The news of Daft Punk‘s split has struck a chord with Manchester’s Kaleidoscope Orchestra — so much so, they’re planning a candlelight tribute in the duo’s honor.

Orchestral renditions of Daft Punk favorites will be performed at Manchester Cathedral this summer as part of two back-to-back, socially-distanced events. While we generally think of candlelight as a way to commemorate the dead, the intention here is to cultivate an intimate, ambient setting that compliments the soundtrack.

Kaleidoscope Orchestra is known for covering previous works of Daft Punk, as demonstrated via the medley below. The group’s mission is to “bridge the gap between classical and electronic music” and this unique concert experience fits the bill.

Candlelight: A Tribute to Daft Punk with Kaleidoscope Orchestra is set to take place Friday, August 20th. Tickets range from £35 to £55, depending on proximity to the stage.

More info and tickets here.
