Kaskade completes Rocket League-commissioned ‘Reset’ EP with ‘Miles To Go’ featuring Ella Vos – Dancing Astronaut

Kaskade has released the final single from Reset, his first EP of the year and first-ever EP to be released via Monstercat. Reset‘s finale, “Miles To Go,” features Ella Vos and showcases Kaskade’s emotive side with nostalgic house notes that fuse with Vos’s dreamy vocals. The serene soundscape instills a sense of calm, proving the perfect final touch to the four-track EP.

Reset has been produced in collaboration with Rocket League for the game’s music-themed second season. Of note, Kaskade is the first artist that Rocket League aligned with for an entire season. Kaskade discussed the partnership in an official release, stating,

“Working with Rocket League as the first artist to conceptualize and create music for an entire season of their game was such an honor, and I also knew I couldn’t mess it up…gamers take their music and sonic landscapes very seriously. So while I felt a little pressure, it was mostly just an amazing time to pull together songs that could really go along with the various moods that we go through while immersed in a game like Rocket League. They’re finally all getting a release together on the Reset EP which will include my final song, ‘Miles to Go’ with Ella Vos, so the entire experience can be found in one place.”

The single arrives via Monstercat Silk, the label’s third brand, forged after Monstercat’s recent acquisition of Silk Music, a leading progressive and deep house label. Over the past three years, Monstercat has provided the soundtrack to Rocket League with more than 100 songs.

Alice In Chains’ Jerry Cantrell has finished recording his new solo album

Alice In Chains‘ Jerry Cantrell has revealed he’s finished recording his long-awaited third solo album.

The Seattle band’s guitarist-vocalist announced last year that he was recording the follow-up to his previous solo albums: 1998’s ‘Boggy Depot’ and 2002’s ‘Degradation Trip’.

“It’s time to make the Raawwwkkk !!!,” he captioned a series of studio snaps on Instagram, confirming his first LP in almost 20 years.

On Thursday (March 4), Cantrell returned to social media to share that he’s now finished the album. He accompanied the news with a picture of himself posing next to engineer Paul Fig, The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s Greg Puciato and producer Joe Barresi.

“Finished my record tonight one year to the day from when we started recording it,” Cantrell wrote. “What a crazy journey … always is. Look forward to setting it free upon your ear holes sometime soon.”

See the post below:

Back in 2019, Cantrell and Puciato collaborated on a pair of intimate unplugged dates. Puciato sang Layne Staley’s parts during the Alice in Chains songs, hinting that Puciato and Cantrell might be collaborating on other material.

Elsewhere, Metallica have shared a cover of Alice In Chains‘ classic track ‘Would?’.

James Hetfield and co. performed the 1992 single during a virtual event that saw Alice In Chains receive the annual Museum Of Pop Culture (MoPOP) Founders Award.

Appearing in a split-screen format from their respective homes, Metallica delivered a stripped-back take on ‘Would?’, which appeared on AIC’s second full-length album ‘Dirt’ as well as the Singles soundtrack.

Code Orange have also recently put their own spin on an Alice In Chains track, covering  ‘Down In A Hole’ in a recent acoustic live performance.

The band went live via Twitch in August, performing favourites of their catalogue including ‘Who I Am’, ‘Autumn and Carbine’ and ‘Ugly’.

Major Lazer Tap Puerto Rican Rapper Guaynaa for New Single “Diplomatico” [LISTEN]

Major Lazer have been amping up their new single all week — and “Diplomatico” featuring Guaynaa is finally here in full, infectious form.

The trio consisting of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Ape Drums consistently deliver the flavor and this highly-anticipated collab is no exception. Despite years of rumors of a final album and the project’s supposed end, they continue to make new music and we have absolutely no complaints.

Following up Major Lazer’s 2021 release “Pra te Machucar” featuring ÀTTØØXXÁ and Suku Ward, the group delivers a playful single with a simple yet effective hook: “Diplo, Diplo-Diplomático.” A missing poster for none other than Diplo serves as promo for the song and official music video coming soon, amongst other quirky posts like this.

Even with a quick Google Translate effort, we’re not entirely sure what the lyrics are alluding to. Regardless, “Diplomatico” is catchy as can be.

You can find “Diplomatico” on the new Que Calor EP, which brings back a few already-released singles, in addition to a few remixes.

Listen to Saxon’s take on the classic Beatles record below:

Byford said of the ‘Inspirations’: “We didn’t want to change any of the songs too much, just play them more like Saxon and we also think it’s very important to have – and share with the fans – some fun in these dark times.”

‘The Lyrics’, which is due for release on November 2, will recount the musician’s life through his earliest boyhood compositions, songs by The Beatles, Wings and from his lengthy solo career.

Meanwhile, John Lennon‘s debut solo studio album ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ is set to be reissued next month for a new ‘Ultimate Collection’ box set.

Originally released in December 1970, ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ was recorded shortly after the demise of The Beatles. The record, which was co-produced by Phil Spector and once described by Lennon as “the best thing I’ve ever done”, featured Ringo Starr on drums and Klaus Voormann on bass and included the songs ‘Working Class Hero’, ‘Isolation’ and ‘God’.

Sultan + Shepard issue final ‘Something, Everything’ single, ‘White Lies’ – Dancing Astronaut

With their highly anticipated Something, Everything LP just days away, Sultan + Shepard share one final taste of what’s shaping out to be a sensational record. Newest single “White Lies” features the robust melodic house elements expected from a This Never Happened release, but at only 83 BPM the single offers a much slower groove to settle into. On social media, Sultan + Shepard shared the inspirations behind the song:

It’s a song about the stories we tell ourselves in order to make ourselves feel better. It’s also a song about being honest with yourself and using that honesty as a way to let go and move forward.

“White Lies” features vocal work from The Cut, whose nearly falsetto singing blends well with the measured instrumental. Sultan + Shepard’s first two Something, Everything singles “Solid Gold Love” and “Assassin” are two uplifting singles firmly rooted in progressive house. Meanwhile, third single “nCNTRL” and now “White Lies” both trend towards mellow and downtempo directions. With no more indication for the remaining tracks on the forthcoming album, fans will be curious to see if the slower tracks represent a bulk of the record or if they are outliers among an upbeat house experience. Something, Everything will be released on This Never Happened March 12, 2021.

Richard Ashcroft and Supergrass to headline Nottingham’s Splendour Festival

Richard Ashcroft and Supergrass have been announced as the headliners for the 2021 edition of Nottingham’s Splendour Festival.

The festival, held on Saturday July 24, is the latest UK festival to announce its intention to go ahead following the unveiling of the UK’s road map out of lockdown.

Alongside Ashcroft and Supergrass, the likes of Becky Hill and The Vamps will also perform at Splendour, with the full line-up still to be revealed.

See the current list of artists for the festival, which takes place at Wollaton Park, below.

Following news of the roadmap, which plans to allow large-scale events with no social distancing in the UK from June 21, a number of festivals have vowed to go ahead this year.

Reading & Leeds shared their plan to hold their pair of festivals as planned in August, quickly selling out in the process, while Live Nation sold over 170,000 tickets in the three days following the announcement of the roadmap.

Isle Of Wight Festival was originally scheduled to take place the weekend before June 21, but now that the event has moved to September, festival boss John Giddings is confident of a successful return.

“We’ve moved it to three months later to make sure that it’s going to be safe, and the government are running test events in a month’s time to prove that it’s possible to do these shows, so we’ve got everything in our favour,” Giddings told NME.

“We’ll now be in September: the Isle Of Wight has some of the best weather in the UK, what’s not to like? By then the whole of the UK would have been vaccinated and there’s a point at which somebody somewhere has got to come out and enjoy themselves.”

Despite this, independent festival bosses and industry insiders have warned that their 2021 events risk cancellation if they fail to receive Government-backed insurance by the end of the month.

Speaking to NME, Association of Independent Festivals CEO Paul Reed said that government-backed insurance needs to be introduced before the end of March, when it is expected that independent festivals will have to start making major payments for this summer’s events.

“COVID simply isn’t covered by policies, so that’s why we think that there needs to be a government backed insurance scheme, with them essentially acting as the insurer as a last resort in the way the way that other governments have done across Europe to allow festival planning to go ahead with confidence,” Reed told NME.

Zeds Dead Launch New Label Altered States With First Single, “late night drive,” From Upcoming Album

Following five years of Deadbeats, Zeds Dead earlier this week announced the beginning of a new label called Altered States and the imminent release of a new album from the Canadian duo, Catching Z’s. The title is a reference to the more somnolent vibes of the album, bringing the intensity down and creating a peaceful, calming vibe.

The first single from the album, “late night drive,” is out today, and the vibes are indeed immaculate. Delicate piano notes and reverberating vocals are paired with light bass accents and a soothing drum pattern, making for the perfect chill atmosphere. The best part is that all of the bass patches are still recognizably Zeds Dead, despite the less ferocious ambiance.

Catching Z’s is available for streaming and purchase on Friday, March 26. Limited Edition Vinyl (w/ a special bonus track) & T-shirts are now available for pre-order at alteredstates.lnk.to/CatchingZs. Check out the lead single and complete tracklist below.

Catching Z’s Tracklist
01. when i die i’mma come back
02. exit row
03. lost birds ft. Elliot Moss
04. phuket sunrise

06. time is an illusion
07. i think you’re cool ft. Jenna Pemkowski
