Chris Lake and Chris Lorenzo properly welcome Anti Up’s first-ever LP with ‘Sensational’ – Dancing Astronaut

It all began in the midst of Chris Lorenzo‘s set during EDC’s Virtual Rave-A-Thon this past May, during which Lorenzo revealed that he and his Anti Up counterpart, Chris Lake, were confidentially mapping out a full-length debut for their byname; but 2021 would come before any further details would be aired. Fast forward almost 10 months into the future, and Anti Up are now seasoned to drive the currently unnamed LP in motion with “Sensational,” the duo’s first shared appearance in more than a year’s time.

Reflecting back to a time when festivals were actually a part of everyone’s day-to-day in 2019, “Sensational” initially made the rounds in a pile of Anti Up back-to-backs, with house enthusiasts flooding the comments of every fan-recorded YouTube video to ask “what is this ID?” It wasn’t difficult for its eventual title to be deciphered, thanks to an updated “Sensational” version directed by a synthesized vocal that spells out its name accordingly. It doesn’t serve the typical four-on-the-floor house foundation relative to past Anti Up outings, but Chris Lake and Chris Lorenzo still work their respectively unequaled magic, providing a favorable introduction to what may very well end up on Dancing Astronaut‘s albums of the year list when all is said and done.

Record Store Day announce second 2021 event for July

Record Store Day has announced a second drop date for 2021, with events now taking place in June and July.

It comes after the 2020 version of the annual celebration ended up being split across three events in August, September and October.

After announcing their initial date of June 12 for 2021’s RSD at the end of last year, an additional date of July 17 has now been added.

A statement announcing the new date read: “With vaccines on the horizon, Record Store Day organisers around the world look forward to the future, but recognise that in 2021, the world’s biggest record store party needs some adjustments to make it as successful for as many participating indie record shops as possible.

“Throughout the past year, record stores have found creative, flexible and inventive ways to keep serving the music lovers in their communities. However, the ongoing worldwide pandemic makes it impossible to predict the status of many stores and locations around the globe in the next few months.

“This brings with it many unexpected side effects, including production and distribution issues that continue to disrupt record store supply chains.”

The message concluded: “The decision to once again shift the “Record Store Day energy” across 2 dates allows the largest number of stores to participate around the world.”

The last in a trio of RSD 2020 events took place on Saturday, October 24. Fans were able to get their hands on exclusive releases from Beck and St. Vincent, Def Leppard, Eminem, Suede, Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, Snoop Dogg and Thin Lizzy.

Back in September, it was revealed that the first Record Store Day (held in August) resulted in a 3% rise in vinyl sales, despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing significant disruption to the retail industry.

At the end of 2020, Record Store Day released limited vinyl from the likes of Motörhead, My Chemical Romance and Beastie Boys for Black Friday 2020. More than 200 UK indie record shops participated.

What So Not shares his sought-after mashup of Kendrick Lamar ‘Money Trees’ and Mura Masa’s ‘Lotus Eater’ – Dancing Astronaut

The holiday season might have come to an end, but that isn’t stopping What So Not from bearing gifts in his return from hiatus. The Australian producer recently took to Twitter to generously announce that he will be gifting fans unreleased bootlegs throughout the entire month of March.

To kick things off, What So Not has spontaneously dropped his coveted mashup of Kendrick Lamar‘s “Money Trees” and Mura Masa‘s “Lotus Eater,” a tune that’s been sought after since its earliest plays on the Divide & Conquer tour five years ago. Kendrick’s easy-breezy vocals and Masa’s bass-dripping beats make for a match made in heaven, a point proven by clips of this bomb of a tune being dropped live.

With at least a handful of additional bootlegs coming down the pipeline, fans are currently left to speculate about what’s next to come from the Sydney producer’s impressive arsenal. “Money Trees vs Lotus Eater (What So Not Edit)” is available to stream below, but has also been made available for download here.

Player Dave, FLY – Boundless Perception

California-based producer Player Dave is shaping up to be an exciting act to watch. A progressive thinker whose music follows suit, Player Dave just drew back the curtain on the second single from his debut album Where The Wind Blew Me. “Boundless Perception,” a collaboration with FLY, walks a fine line between bass and indietronica. With atmospheric tones in its peripheral, this dreamscape of a track stands out in a sea of stagnant sounds. Warping rhythms and inviting melodies oscillate a deep bassline, forming musical universes forged by the innovation of both creators. A space bass dream that challenges Player Dave’s signature sound, “Boundless Perception” is a testament to his far-reaching and ever-evolving versatility as a producer. Player Dave’s album Where The Wind Blew Me is slated for release Friday, March 26.

“After a few years of collaborating together, Naseem (FLY) and I developed this sound that was noticeably different from either of our solo work. We got closer to what was in our heads each time we worked together, and finally hit the nail on the head with ‘Boundless Perception’” – Player Dave

“When PD first showed me the initial ideas on his album years ago I was super inspired by the diversity of sounds and was honored to contribute to the project with our tune. Writing the track together was natural and flowed from start to finish very quickly. PD is a life long friend and I’m blessed to have him in my life.” – FLY

Wolf Alice give ‘The Last Man On Earth’ stunning live debut on ‘Jools’

Wolf Alice gave a live debut to their comeback single ‘The Last Man On Earth’ on last night’s (March 5) episode of Later… with Jools Holland – watch below.

The band shared their comeback single last month, along with details of third album ‘Blue Weekend’, due in June via Dirty Hit.

The new Jools performance was led by Ellie Rowsell sat at the piano as the band surrounded her in the Alexandra Palace theatre venue in London. They were joined by a string section.

Watch the performance of ‘The Last Man On Earth’ below.

The 57th season of Later… with Jools Holland, which sees artists performing special sets from different locations, as opposed to one studio as usual in non-COVID times, was opened last month with a first episode featuring Arlo Parks, Sleaford Mods and Kings of Leon.

Last year, the show returned to screens for a six-week lockdown series with Christine & The Queens, Laura Marling and more appearing from their respective homes.

Host Holland offered a sneak peek into how the staple BBC Music show had been adapted amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis last May. He said the series would see “me and (socially) distant guests discussing their life in music and revealing some of their favourite moments from our vast archives”.

Reviewing Wolf Alice’s ‘The Last Man On Earth’, NME wrote: “On Wolf Alice’s last album, they came good on their early promise and cemented themselves as one of the best bands around, reinforced by a deserved Mercury Prize win.

“If ‘The Last Man On Earth’ is even just a hint at the greatness to come on their third album, ‘Blue Weekend’ should propel them to the level of major festival headliners and arena conquerors with ease.”

The Future of Burning Man Revealed with New Fly Ranch Project

Burning Man and Land Art Generator Initiative have joined forces for a collaborative new project that will shape the future of the event’s landscape.

The LAGI 2020 Fly Ranch design challenge shares ideas from creators and innovators as they pitch revolutionary and sustainable ideas for Burning Man’s future community, Fly Ranch. After reviewing proposals from hundreds of applicants, organizers have narrowed it down to the top 10 designs — see here via Forbes.

Proposals include areas for humans to exist and venues for the Burning Man community to gather. With integrated systems for energy, water, food, shelter, and waste management, these designs for infrastructure also check boxes for the organization’s 2030 sustainability goals.

Above all else, these proposals and ideas adhere to Burning Man’s 10 founding principles: “radical inclusion, gifting, decommodification, radical self-reliance, radical self-expression, communal effort, civic responsibility, leaving no trace, participation, and immediacy.”

In 2016, Burning Man acquired the Fly Ranch property, which sits north of the event site. The end goal being a year-round hub for Burning Man culture to flourish through innovation and creativity.

As for the more immediate future of Burning Man, a recent statement reveals there are “too many unknowns” to determine whether a 2021 Black Rock City gathering can happen. See the full update here.

Duck Sauce disburse first original of 2021, ‘Ask Me’ – Dancing Astronaut Duck Sauce disburse first original of 2021, ‘Ask Me’ %

With “Ask Me,” Duck Sauce step into 2021. The calendar-opening single will be familiar to some, considering that A-Trak and Armand Van Helden first aired the single in December 2020 during their BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. The end-of-year stint was their follow-up to their 2013 Essential Mix guest slot on the Pete Tong-guided platform.

“Ask Me” samples The Supreme Jubilees’ 1979 original “Do You Believe,” evidencing A-Trak and Van Helden’s commitment to channeling the soul of house music by paying homage to the disco, R&B, and funk genres. “Ask Me” comes packaged with their October 2020 single, “Mesmerize,” with both tracks dignifying the other’s apparent allegiance to earlier musical influences. Both tracks combine the best of both worlds—wicked old-school grooves with a newfound sound.
