CamelPhat engineer techno flair into ARTBAT and Sailor & I tag-team, ‘Best of Me’

2021 is quickly ramping up to be an abundant year for CamelPhat. After unveiling their debut studio album Dark Matter last fall, the duo set its efforts to another LP—this time from Sailor & I—turning in a remix of ARTBAT and Sailor & I’s heavy-hitting collaboration, “Best of Me,” to the impending full-length. Sailor & I’s new album, Diving For Lost Treasure, will land on Get Physical’s sister label METAPHYSICAL.

The CamelPhat rework first surfaced during the Liverpool pair’s Printworks-hosted BBC Essential Mix before enjoying additional setlist rounds at Tomorrowland‘s virtual NYE endeavor and surfacing in their exclusive Apple Music NYE 2021 mix. Now, the Printworks ID officially hits the airwaves and brings with it a new reinvigoration of the sought-after emotive track. With sonic overlap between the three acts, CamelPhat’s remix hand unfolds a warehouse-emulated techno direction that coasts along the previous suspense-captivated foundations while retaining essential melodies.

John Lennon’s ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ to be celebrated in new ‘Ultimate Collection’

John Lennon‘s debut solo studio album ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ is set to be reissued next month for a new ‘Ultimate Collection’ box set.

Originally released in December 1970, ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ was recorded shortly after the demise of The Beatles. The record, which was co-produced by Phil Spector and once described by Lennon as “the best thing I’ve ever done”, featured Ringo Starr on drums and Klaus Voormann on bass and included the songs ‘Working Class Hero’, ‘Isolation’ and ‘God’.

Yoko Ono Lennon and Capitol/UMC will celebrate the recent 50th anniversary of ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band’ with the release of an eight-disc super deluxe box set, dubbed ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band – The Ultimate Collection’, on April 16.

Ono personally oversaw the production and creative direction of the reissue, which includes rare demos, rehearsals, outtakes, jams and studio conversations as well as 87 never-before-heard recordings. The full live recording session of Ono’s companion LP, ‘Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band’, is also included, presenting the songs in their full, unedited lengths and speed for the first time.

The ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band – The Ultimate Collection’ has been previewed with the new ‘ultimate mix’ of the album’s opening track ‘Mother’, which you can hear below.

In the preface of the box set’s accompanying book, Ono wrote: “With the Plastic Ono Band albums, John and I liked the idea of this really raw, basic, truthful reality that we were going to be giving to the world.

“We were influencing other artists, giving them courage, giving dignity to a certain style of vulnerability and strength that was not accepted in society at the time. It was a revolution for a Beatle to say, ‘Listen: I’m human, I’m real.’ It took a lot of courage for him to do it.”

You can find out more about and pre-order the ‘John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band – The Ultimate Collection’ here. A special unboxing video for the box set can be viewed here.

Last month a new music TV channel, the Coda Collection, launched with the backing of the likes of Yoko Ono and Experience Hendrix’s – the estate of Jimi Hendrix – Janie Hendrix.

Premiere: The Magician works his magic in remix of Nicky Night Time, Ali Love, and Breakbot’s ‘Ubiquity’ – Dancing Astronaut Premiere: The Magician works his magic in remix of Nicky Night Time, Ali Love, and Breakbot’s ‘Ubiquity’

On March 4, The Magician can be found reaching into his hat and pulling out not a rabbit, but rather a remix of Nicky Night Time and Ali Love‘s Breakbot feature “Ubiquity.” With its honeyed, mid-tempo beat and the warmth of its classic disco trappings, the trifecta’s output—released in mid-January—gave the electronic genre further reason to rally around disco sound—something that producers and their respective followings have done ardently of late.

When Nicky Night Time and Ali Love declared a rework in order, The Magician emerged as an attractive tastemaker from whom to commission the alternative “Ubiquity” take, and now, Dancing Astronaut readers have the opportunity to see just how much of a bullseye this call was. Though The Magician’s black belt remix of “Ubiquity” won’t formally release until March 5, the full-length version is available one day early, only on Dancing Astronaut.

Lacking nothing by way of the energy that it brings to speakers, The Magician’s take foregrounds the drum work and general groove put into place on the original while adding touches of his own bold sonic signature. Under normal circumstances, it’d be something for dance floors to lust after, but these days, the would-be club favorite is reason enough to scuff the kitchen or living room floor—in characteristic Magician fashion.

Pre-save “Ubiquity” here.

DJ Snake & Selena Gomez Drop Smoldering Dance-Pop Collab “Selfish Love”

DJ Snake and Selena Gomez have teamed up for another round — “Selfish Love” is out today!

Following up their 2018 smash hit “Taki Taki” with Cardi B and Ozuna, the two drop a light and airy dance-pop collab sure to control the charts and the dance floor. It’s a slow burning fusion of flavorful sounds, less energy than “Taki Taki,” but just as deeply satisfying.

A heart thumping beat controls the production, as subtle melodics build the atmosphere and lush percussion shape the groove. Further setting the sultry mood of “Selfish Love,” a saxophone solo hits in all the right places.

Selena’s vocal performance naturally takes center stage, opening with a Spanish verse before transitioning into the song’s English hook. The bilingual nature of the track makes it that much more of an instant global sensation.

Listen here and fall into this “Selfish Love!”

AJ Tracey drops his first new single of the year, ‘Anxious’

AJ Tracey has released his first new single of the year, ‘Anxious’.

After teasing the track on Instagram earlier this week the West London rapper dropped the track today (March 5).

According to a press release, the track – produced by Remedee – “marks a notable switch of pace, and a bold statement of intent, speaking on the varying emotions felt by AJ in his current position”.

‘Anxious’ is accompanied by a action-filled music video, where we see Tracey enjoying the high-life across London.

Watch it below:

The new single follows Tracey’s announcement back in December that his as-yet-unnamed new album is “almost done”.

The forthcoming full-length release will be the follow up to his surprise EP, ‘Secure The Bag! 2’ which dropped in November 2020, itself the descendent of Tracey’s self-titled debut album, which dropped in 2019.

In their review of ‘Secure The Bag! 2’, NME said, “Where most artists require features and guest appearances to help smooth out bumps and creases, Tracey owns his spotlight.

When collaborators do appear, he doesn’t rely on them to boost a song: rather, Slowthai, New Jersey’s A$AP Mob affiliate Swoosh God and Toronto’s Sloan Evans play supporting characters in the AJ Tracey Show.”

REPORT: Swedish House Mafia Cut Ties with Columbia Records

Swedish House Mafia have reportedly parted ways with Columbia Records.

Billboard exclusively shares the group has separated from both Columbia Records and Ron Laffitte of Patriot Management. The partnership was relatively new, as Swedish House Mafia ultimately signed with the label in 2019 after a bidding war with Universal Music Group, leading into their short-lived spurt of comeback gigs.

Before all this, news of the EDM trio’s unexpected yet amicable split from longtime manager Amy Thomson made headlines in 2018. This was following their coveted Ultra Music Festival reunion performance and just before they announced a three-night run of shows in Stockholm. What fans expected to be a world tour fizzled out after a handful of dates and a couple of high profile cancellations.

Just recently, Swedish House Mafia was spotted in studio working on new music. The footage from SHM art director Alexander Wessely and day-to-day artist manager Max Holmstrand suggest their are indeed moving forward in some capacity. Under what label or management company is unknown.

It’s been nearly a decade since Swedish House Mafia released original music. Their studio album Until Now came out in 2012, giving life to timeless classics “Don’t You Worry Child,” “Save The World” and more.

Whatever deals might come next, we hope they result in new music.
