On February 25, Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino gave an optimistic update on the future of live music in 2021. The primary focus will be receiving government approval to operate live events at over 50% capacity. After obtaining the necessary legal permissions, Rapino estimates approximately three months are needed to rehire staff and rescale the company.
This news comes after UK prime minister Boris Johnson unveiled his plan for Britain’s return to live events, with indoor concerts expected to return in May, and a complete return to pre-pandemic normalcy by June. Both the UK’s plans and Live Nation’s plan are heavily contingent on vaccination success. Fortunately, FDA approval of Johnson & Johnson’s single shot COVID-19 vaccine will hopefully support distribution.
Fans have many reasons to be optimistic for the future of live music, especially looking at 2022. The Live Nation CEO tweeted out the following graphic to illustrate the triumphant music comeback currently predicted to be on the way.
With more artists than ever wanting to tour and fans eager to make up for lost time, all signs point to even more concerts ahead. Thank you to all of our @LiveNation employees for their endless resilience and creativity – none of this would be possible without you pic.twitter.com/gdiapVYSyk

Last month, Saltee took listeners on a ride with his liquid-tinged tunes, “Unkindled” and “Sif.” He’s now returned to the airwaves with a double dose of metal-infused drum & bass. For “Tradition of Torment” and “Heart of Darkness,” he replaced the more ethereal atmosphere he previously created with vivid, industrial hellscapes more akin to something found in DOOM Eternal.
On the leadoff single, “Tradition of Torment,” Saltee recruited the help of his longtime friend Marko Kokotovic for some impressive guitar work. Opening the gates early with haunting, distorted vocals and massive guitar riffs, the anticipation for the boss fight begins. Once fused with Saltee’s masterful production, the bass-fueled action sequence finds an addicting groove and elevates the metal amalgam to the next level.
Trading in the fire and brimstone for a more high-tech aesthetic, Saltee leans more towards his electronic side for “Heart of Darkness.” Through the use of clever synths and repeating vocals, he conjures intense visions of a dystopian universe with a tincture of industrial flair for good measure. The final result is a stellar two-track release from the Denver producer showcasing his ability to tell evocative tales with his music.
When speaking on the pair of new releases, Saltee explains that they’re only the beginning of his dive into the world of original metal crossovers. “I have bootlegged and remixed a lot of metal tracks in the past, as I think metal and drum & bass have a lot of similarities when it comes to tempo and the overall soundscapes,” he said. “This is just the first original hybrid metal and drum & bass track I’m releasing and there will be plenty more in the next year.
He also explained how the theme of his latest fuses well with the gritty, darkened aesthetic commonly found on the label they call home. “I’m also glad it landed on the HYBRID BLAK imprint,” Saltee continued. “I feel like the label is a great fit for a dark, somewhat industrial-influenced sound with plenty of metal styling.”
“Tradition of Torment” and “Heart of Darkness” are out now via HYBRID BLAK. You can download the pair of metal-infused drum & bass offerings on Bandcamp.
After two years in the making, Snyder‘s dance-pop-infused debut album In the Dark has hit streaming platforms. The self-released LP traverses 10 diverse tracks that feature the likes of 24hrs, 51b, Dre of the East, Danielle Goz, Mike Eakins, and Northside Rocky.
In rare fashion, the Chicago-born producer has garnered more than 1 million streams on Spotify with his independently released music. Of note, In the Dark was led by “Your Love” featuring Northside Rocky, “Fire” with 24hrs, and the 51b-assisted “Thunda.” The multi-genre producer said of his first-ever LP,
“In the Dark represents so much to me. For years, I worked at building something cohesive between my projects and finally to have something covering so many genres. I’m so proud that it came out the way it did. I call it In the Dark because I really do feel that the only thing that can tie all of these records together is darkness. Either darkness in the club, darkness in your heart, or darkness outside, you’re bound to feel some darkness in this project. Special thanks to 24hrs, Northside Rocky, 51b, Dre of the East, Mike Eakins, thank you guys so much for being a part of this project.”
In the Dark journeys across a variety of genres as Snyder bridges his pop-dance mastery with future bass, house, hip-hop, and mid-tempo. The balance of electronic ambience and commercial allure within his debut LP uniquely demonstrates Snyder’s knack for providing a stimulating experience through his diverse musicality and influences, further affirming his rapid rise to popularity.

Norwegian hit producer Tungevaag is back with a striking new single, this time teaming up with upcoming Russian artist Vlade Kay and Swedish rising star Jonth for the titillating pop song ‘Famous’. Not in the least thanks to the vocal efforts of Norwegian duo Skinny Days, this is a record that has ‘dream team’ and ‘instant pop classic’ written all over it – a song that says it all, packed in sweet lyrics and strong electronic sounds, out now on Spinnin’ Records.
Something’s cooking here. A brand new collab that includes Tungevaag recently praised as a producer of popular tracks like ‘Knockout’, ‘PLAY’ (together with Alan Walker and K-391) and ‘DANCE’ (alongside CLMD). It’s resulted in hundreds of millions of streams, placing this Norwegian tastemaker into the higher echelons of global dance music.
And now, he’s joined forces with Vlade Kay, one of Russia’s rising pop artists who’s already enjoyed support from national radio as well as Russia’s most popular TV shows. 2019 saw him release his biggest hit to date ‘All This Lovin’, a track that received a much-acclaimed remix last year by none other than Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.
Also part of this dream team is Jonth, the new star on the Swedish dance horizon, most known for his 2019 hit ‘Game Time’, a collab with Debris that resulted in lots of DJ support and millions of streams.
‘Famous’ With three of dance music’s high rollers behind the wheel, expectations are high. ‘Famous’ definitely feels like a milestone, as it brings together the best of their abilities with warm, melancholic vocal lines leading towards a strong chorus, featuring overwhelming bass hooks and sturdy beats. It’s a pop song rooted in nowadays electronic sounds, rising sky-high thanks to the outstanding vocal efforts of Norwegian duo Skinny Days.
It’s this combination of flawless dance and rave influences with those powerful, dramatic song structures that provide ‘Famous’ with its instant appeal. This is music you’ll feel deep in your soul, but also get you dancing and singing along cheerfully. The best of both worlds, as they say, thanks to four acts perfectly tuning in to each others wavelengths – that’s how you get ‘Famous’.
Rostam has announced his second solo album ‘Changephobia’ and shared a new single called ‘4Runner’ – listen below.
The former Vampire Weekend musician/producer released his debut record ‘Half-Light’ back in 2017, and has since helmed Haim‘s latest album ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ as well as Clairo‘s ‘Immunity’.
Having previously offered up the tracks ‘These Kids We Knew’ and ‘Unfold You’, Rostam has today (March 2) confirmed that his new LP will arrive on June 4 via Matsor Projects/Secretly Distribution. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.
The latest taste of the album comes in the form of ‘4Runner’, a widescreen and euphoric number that captures the intimate thrill of embarking on a road trip with a loved one. “Sleeping behind the wheel/ Pulled over on the freeway/ 4Runner, stolen plates/ Long, long gone“, Rostam sings.
According to a press release, the 11-track ‘Changephobia’ was written and produced by Rostam over the course of a three-year period when he was also working on the aforementioned Haim and Clairo albums.
The musician revealed that the project was inspired by “changes in my life that had altered its course”, which he had opened up about to “a stranger on a park bench”.
“He said, ‘Change is good. Go with it’. I realised that I had never heard that sentiment expressed before,” Rostam remembered.
“Transphobia, biphobia, homophobia— these words hold a weight of threat, and it occurred to me that the threats they bare— the fears they describe— are rooted in a fear of change: a fear of the unknown, of a future that is not yet familiar, one in which there is a change of traditions, definitions, and distributions of power.”
He added: “So gender, too, was on my mind while creating this album, as I came to find myself writing about love and connection but not wanting to place relationships in a gendered context.
“This collection of songs is not celebrating a fear of change. Rather, it’s the opposite. It’s about who we are capable of becoming if we recognize these fears in ourselves and rise above them.”
Other songs featured on ‘Changephobia’ include ‘From The Back Of A Cab’, ‘Kinney’ and ‘Starlight’. You can see the full tracklist below.
Texas will become the first state in the US to officially open up to 100% by government mandate, made by Gov. Greg Abbott this afternoon.
According to Gov. Abbott’s press release, nearly “5.7 million vaccine shots have been administered to Texas, and the state is now administering almost one million shots each week.” Texas has a population of approximately 29 million according to 2019 data, so the whole state could potentially be vaccinated by the end of the month if they keep on track.
Writes Statesman, “Abbott’s new order will allow all businesses to expand their occupancy rates to 100%. However, county officials may use ‘COVID mitigation strategies’ if coronavirus hospitalizations rise above 15% of an area’s total bed capacity for seven straight days.”

Despite the advantages of vaccines, many feel it’s premature to open the state up. Journalist David Gura noted that current COVID numbers (new cases) are higher now, even if only slightly, than when Gov. Abbott first announced a mask mandate last July.
When Gov. Greg Abbott announced a statewide mask mandate, I was on a reporting trip to Houston.
On that Thursday, July 2nd, there were 7,434 new #COVID19 cases in #Texas, and 44 deaths.
Still, the decision is sure to please many who, rightfully or not, are tired of lockdown and are looking to get back to events. Ubbi Dubbi is scheduled to take place April 24-25 at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis just a half hour outside Dallas. Camping will also be available.
The event doesn’t feature any COVID-19 safety information on their website, but does include a COVID-19 waiver and release: “By purchasing tickets, you acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that you may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by attending the event and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, disability, and death.”
Adventure Club, Illenium, Gammer, Seven Lions, and more are scheduled to perform.
Because this is 2021 and no headline should shock you at this point, a company is building humanity’s first hotel in outer space. Plans for the structure, which is called Voyager Station, are said to include a concert venue.
The company behind the interstellar project, OrbitalAssembly, has gone public with their plans to begin construction on Voyager Station in low Earth orbit in 2025. They believe the astronomically ambitious hotel can be fully operational by 2027.
Plans for Voyager Station, humanity’s first-ever hotel in outer space, are underway and the structure may be operational in 2027.
Vogayer Station’s website claims that the hotel will be the largest man-made structure in space after its completion, and that it will be built in orbit “using automation and tele-robotics.” According to the Daily Mail, hotel guests will be able to enjoy a number of lavish amenities, such as gyms, spas, themed restaurants, and a movie theater, among other facilities. For music aficionados, Vogayer Station will also feature concert venues as well as lounges and bars from which travelers can view outer space.
Those amenities will reportedly be housed in a series of pods, which will also provide air, water, and power and will be affixed to the outside of the structure’s rotating ring. These pods could ultimately be leased or sold to NASA for space research, according to the Mail.
Once completed, Voyager Station will feature concert venues, bars, and lounges for music fans.
“This will be the next industrial revolution,” said JohnBlincow, founder of Gateway Foundation, a company that will operate some of the hotel’s pod modules.
