Spotify announces HiFi streaming option coming soon – Dancing Astronaut

Spotify has announced plans to offer high fidelity (HiFi) music streaming for subscribers. The HiFi option, which will begin in select markets later this year, will be a paid upgrade. Pricing and exact roll out dates have not yet been made public.

HiFi streaming is defined by Spotify as “CD-quality, lossless audio.” In 2017, Tidal partnered with Master Quality Authenticated to first bring HiFi music streaming to its platform. Until now, Tidal has been the only service to offer HiFi to retail users. Spotify’s major competitors, namely Apple Music, have not publicly shared plans to upgrade to HiFi.

Spotify made the announcement at the recent Stream On event, where the streaming giant also shared plans to expand into more than 80 countries. At the beginning of February, Spotify’s earnings report revealed that the platform has grown to 345 million monthly active users and 155 million subscribers.

Killer Mike speaks out after shooting near his barbershop: “This one hurt”

Killer Mike has responded to a shooting that left one of his barbershops damaged.

The incident, in which no one was injured, happened at approximately 10.30pm on Saturday (February 20) near the Run The Jewels rapper’s SWAG Shop barbershop in South Fulton, Georgia.

Mike wrote in an Instagram post that he was in a recording booth at around 1am when he was told about stray bullets hitting his shop, which the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) reported was closed for renovations.

In the message Mike shared photos of the damage and wrote that he felt OK about the incident since “property can be replaced”. He also said he didn’t believe it had been a personal attack and apologised to prospective customers who will now have to wait longer to visit.

“I wanna say to the brothers tho,” he wrote, turning his attention to the perpetrators, “please consider what would have happened if one of y’all actually hit one another.

“The jail, the lawyer fees, the funeral cost and two black families loss. I’m glad y’all cud not hit the side of a barn with a shot gun cuz this am y’all all are alive.”

As Billboard reports, the rapper owns two more SWAG Shop barbershop locations in the state: in Atlanta’s Edgewood and State Farm Arena areas.

A police spokesperson told AJC: “Upon arrival, several businesses and vehicles appeared to have been struck by gunfire. There were no reported injuries from this incident.”

There were no suspects in custody as of yesterday (February 22), the spokesperson added.

In related news, US House of Representatives delegate Stacey Plaskett recently quoted Run The Jewels and GZA during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

Yotto embarks on melodic excursion with braev-backed single, ‘I Want You’ – Dancing Astronaut

Brandishing his first release of the year, Yotto continues to install his young label Odd One Out as a central hotbed for electronic’s most forward-thinking talents. The Finnish producer’s 2020 trajectory gifted a string of singles including Lane 8 collaboration “Buggy,” the AVIRA-joined “Love Me,” and Cassian double heater, Rogue—all of which made way to listeners via the Yotto-helmed imprint. After inaugurating the 2021 release schedule with two-track Rewind EP, courtesy of Anden, Yotto seeks to capitalize further as he unveils “I Want You,” with braev.

Yotto’s tenure in the melodic and deep realm has long showcased his dynamic skillset of pristine production and dance-tuned touch. Despite his aptitude for delivering hard-hitting cuts, the Hyperfall visionary and his prolific reign have derived recognition from his tonal versatility, which comes on full exhibition in his newest track. “I Want You” displays a softer side of the Odd One Out boss, offering up a vulnerable facet of the familiar Yotto idiosyncrasies. With tender piano chords providing the foundation for braev’s emotive performance, the single ethereally blurs the lines between orchestral and electronic as harmonizing strings formulate into reverberating synths.

LE PEDRE delivers hot new rework ’GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! (A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT)’

Known for bringing a cool rock flavor to nowadays dance music, French DJ/producer Le Pedre has now delivered a blazing new version of ABBA’s pop classic ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’. Featuring sweet vocal lines, as well as those twisting melodies from the original, this 2021 update also includes raw beats, upwinding crescendos, and powerful basslines – a blazing new tune that will last you the rest of the year, out now on Spinnin’ Records.

Le Pedre seems to be a trending topic lately. Making waves since 2018 with some seriously rocking tracks, he’s made it his goal to bring a more guitar-driven sound into the electro world. While touring clubs and festivals with his guitar, he underlined this with releases like 2019’s ‘I Love Rock ’n Roll’, ‘Bang Bang’, and last year’s remix of Lost Frequencies’ ‘Sun Is Shining’.

2020 also saw Le Pedre delivering his biggest hit to date with ‘I Was Made’. Teaming up with famed Italian dance duo VINAI for this, the record was a sturdy electronic remake of 1979 Kiss classic ‘I Was Made For Loving You’, adding a fresh gust of big room bounce to the original’s vocal lines. By now, the tune has reached over 4 million Spotify streams, while the lyric video also racked up over 2 million views already.

Following up on this success, Le Pedre now unleashes his next powerful gem, this time taking on another classic from the late ’70s. Released by ABBA, ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’ counts as a pop classic, featuring a high-energy disco groove and unforgettable chorus.

Le Pedre has perfectly transformed this into an exciting dance track, using the vocal lines of the chorus to build momentum towards an electro-driven drop. The twisting melody of the original is nicely blended into this arrangement, wonderfully balanced by deep dark bass chords and strong snares, making this one of those tunes that will get you dancing in no-time – happily singing along with your fist in the air.

It’s the next step in the evolving career of Le Pedre. As his music keeps going, the Frenchman continues to surprise his audience with fresh sounds, mixing up the worlds of dance, pop, rock, and disco. It’s still early in the year, but it looks like the party has already started with this tune.

Le Pedre quote:

“Working on this track has been a pleasure! ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ made an entire generation dance, I hope my vision of it can make the next one dance too!”

Bobby Shmurda has been released from prison in New York

Rapper Bobby Shmurda has been released from prison in New York.

The rapper, real name Ackquille Jean Pollard, was previously sentenced to seven years in prison in October 2016 after pleading guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession as part of a plea deal.

Confirming his release in a statement, the New York State Department of Corrections and Community said: “At approximately 8:30 this morning,  Ackquille Pollard was conditionally released from Clinton Correctional Facility. Mr. Pollard will be under community supervision in Kings County until he completes his sentence on February 23, 2026.”

The rapper, widely known for his 2014 hit ‘Hot N***a’, was denied parole back in September. He was ordered at the time to serve his maximum sentence (December 11, 2021) in prison.

However, The New York Times reported last month that a fresh review by the Department of Corrections restored Shmurda’s credit for “good institutional behaviour”, ensuring that he was eligible for conditional release on February 23.

“Thank you for remaining loyal and for riding this six year sentence out with me,” Shmurda wrote in an Instagram Story prior to his release. “I love you all and look forward to seeing you soon.”

Following his conditional release, Shmurda will be on parole until 2026.

Migos rapper Quavo previously claimed that he will be on hand to pick him up from prison, according to Billboard.

“I’m going to get my guy,” the frontman said. “I’m personally gonna go pick up Bobby Shmurda. I’m bout to go get him. I’m gonna let him show you how I’m gonna pick him up, yessir. It’s gonna be big.”
