Rapid coronavirus testing could pave the way for nightclubs and theatres to re-open, Boris Johnson has claimed.
Speaking at a Downing Street press conference, the Prime Minister said “rapid” lateral flow tests could be used by “those parts of the economy” that were unable to reopen their doors last year.
The lateral flow tests can provide results within half an hour, which could potentially allow clubbers to flock back to nightclubs once they can provide a negative result.
However, Johnson stressed that it was “still early days” and said there was “lots of discussions still to be had”.
He has also said that the road map out of the current coronavirus lockdown in England is a “cautious but irreversible” plan.
The latest suggestion comes after it was confirmed that UK music venues are set to trial a new system of digital “health passports” in a bid to reopen live gigs safely.

Start-up company You Check will be trialling a new digital health passport app in collaboration with the Music Venue Trust – allowing music fans to prove that they do not have the virus to secure entry.
But Michael Kill, the head of the Night Time Industries Association, told the BBCthat administering rapid tests will not be straightforward and stressed that healthcare professionals would be needed to administer swab tests, while clubbers would need to wait for at least 15 minutes to get a negative result.
Welcoming the announcement, however, he said: “Finally we have some acknowledgement from the prime minister and government on the existence of late night economy businesses, including nightclubs, theatres, casinos and late bars, particularly as they are some of the hardest hit since the start of the pandemic.”
Elsewhere, Primavera Sound festival’s recent trial for the return of gigs with no social distancing but same-day antigen testing found no infection rate, while a study in Germany last year found a “low to very low risk” or coronavirus spreading at indoor gigs – concluding that “good ventilation and social distancing are key”.
Meanwhile, the Music Venue Trust has said that gigs could potentially return in the spring.
Late last year, Virtual DJ made a significant update to their software that has DJs raving (no pun intended).
VirtualDJ greatly improved the sound quality of the separated stems. It also gave additional control to the DJs to adjust in real-time a bleeding parameter, and to fine-tune even more the quality of each track.
VirtualDJ is the only pro DJ software that allows DJs to access in real-time, on any computer, separated acapella, instruments or beats of any track. This new technology has been described as a game changer, and has long been the holy grail for professional DJs.

In honor of the 7th anniversary of Night Bass, the label will be hosting a celebratory livestream. Since an in-person party is unsafe due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they will be teaming up with Beatport for the online event.
Label boss, AC Slater announced the event on Twitter and shared who would be taking the virtual stage. For his label’s 7th anniversary, Slater promises “a line up of legends & future legends I admire spanning various musical styles within the Night Bass spectrum.”
Fans can expect to see performances from the boss himself, Flava D, DJ Q, Bleu Clair, GRiZ, and more. Fans have become particularly excited about the latter of the group’s performance, as GRiZ recently teased that he might drop some rare, unreleased house songs during his set.
Night Bass’ 7 Year Anniversary” livestream is set to take place Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 at 1PM PT (10AM ET) on Beatport’s Twitch channel.
Two chief organizers of Glastonbury Music Festival, Emily Eavis and Nick Dewey, have registered a new company called Holy Cow Events.
The company was registered and incorporated on February 8 via Companies House, but not much else is known about what this new brand will encompass other than its nature of business, which is officially registered as performing arts. It’s possible that Holy Cow Events was established to host smaller one-off events at Glastonbury Festival’s own Worthy Farm, but this potentiality is only speculative. The news of Holy Cow Events’ registration follows Glastonbury organizers’ recent cancellation of the 2021 festival.

As for Rico, NME gave ‘Nightmare Vacation’ a four-star review upon its release, writing, “the frenetic Maryland artist will not be restrained by any boundaries – genre, social or otherwise – as this thrilling, wildly charged, star-stuffed debut proves.”
“While Nasty’s catalogue has found her focused on pushing to the extremities of self-expression – baking rock, screamo and punk directly into her rap with reckless abandon – with this record she flexes her chops as an artist with mainstream appeal.”
The record also appeared on NME‘s list of the 50 best albums of 2020.
Last month, Rico made her television debut, performing ‘OHFR?’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

In addition to delivering the accompanying music video to his standout album single, “Living Right Now,” Tiedye Ky has announced the Pipus Forever Mural Project. Both the visual and the mural initiative honor the artist’s late friend Matthew “Pipus” Larsen, a local creative standout and beloved community member.
The music video for “Living Right Now” follows Tiedye Ky as he visits all of Pipus’s favorite places throughout his hometown of Philadelphia in an artistic collection of scenes that shot on a Super 8 camera. The video is also his announcement of the Pipus Forever Mural Project, developed to not only raise money but also collect signatures to support the creation of a mural for Pipus in Philadelphia.
In an official release, Ky said,
“The ‘Living Right Now’ music video is a tribute to my late homie Pipus. When I heard of his passing, I didn’t believe it at first. I almost laughed and thought ‘man he really got us this time, this will be his ultimate skit. It’s his way of putting on his greatest show.’ He was always smiling, always laughing so hard. His presence in a room outshined and broke down the very walls he stood within.”
