SLANDER and Au5 expand Heaven Sent’s celestial presence with ‘Anywhere’ featuring shYbeast and PLYA – Dancing Astronaut SLANDER and Au5 expand Heaven Sent’s celestial presence with ‘Anywhere’ featuring shYbeast and PLYA

On October 22, 2020, SLANDER announced Heaven Sent, a sanctuary for “emotional music sent from above.” In the time since its fall installation, the label has lived up to this expectation, catering to the more emotive side of dance music via “Hurts Sometimes,” the Fairlane and Jonathan Mendelsohn-assisted Heaven Sent opener, and its successor, Au5‘s “The Way To Infinity.”

Now, SLANDER and Au5 are jointly extending this early tradition with their shYbeast and PLYA feature, “Anywhere.” Doubling as Heaven Sent’s third all-time release, the anthemic dance ballad first surfaced in Derek Andersen and Scott Land’s Road to Ultra Taiwan set on November 14, 2020. The goosebump-inducing number also notches SLANDER’s first collaboration with Au5, and judging by the electronic music community’s impassioned embrace of “Anywhere,” it won’t be their last.

Watch Lil Baby celebrate the hustle mentality in new Super Bowl commercial

Lil Baby has teamed up with Rockstar Energy for a new Super Bowl commercial – you can watch it below.

The 30-second clip highlights the hard work it takes to make it to the top, focusing on Lil Baby’s hustle as well as that of fashion designers, tattoo artists and barbers.

“I wasn’t born in the spotlight. Nah, I had to grind to shine, like a star on a hot night. And something about the struggle now resides in my muscles. And every trial and trouble helped define my hustle,” the ‘My Turn’ rapper narrates. “Real rock stars don’t chase the spotlight. It chases them.”

Directed by Dave Meyers, the ad also features appearances by Rockstar Energy pro skateboarder Chris Joslin and 100 Thieves founder and CEO Nadeshot.

“When Rockstar approached me about this Super Bowl ad, I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of it,” Lil Baby said in a statement. “It’s all about the hard work and hustle that it takes to succeed. Some people think I had instant success, but they don’t understand how hard I worked. I know what it’s like to fall flat and how it feels when your energy is tapped.

He added: “I still hustle every day to make my music and share it with my fans. Rockstar Energy helps me do that.”

Super Bowl LV takes place on Sunday (February 7) and will see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go up against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Weeknd will perform during the halftime break in the game and has hinted at what to expect from his performance.

A press conference was held yesterday (February 4) ahead of the event on Sunday, with reporters joining virtually to quiz The Weeknd on his upcoming show.

During the short question-and-answer session, the musician (real name Abel Tesfaye) gave some more details about the performance, but kept his cards close to his chest. It was previously reported that he would perform from the stands rather than on the field as normally happens, but Tesfaye clarified that he would use both areas.

“Due to the COVID and for the safety of the players and the workers, we built the stage within the stadium,” he said. “We’re also using the field as well, but we wanted to do something that we’ve never done before. So we built the state in the stadium, but I’m not gonna tell you anything else cos you have to watch on Sunday.”

His performances and video during the ‘After Hours’ have seen him done bloody bandages on his face and incorporate scenes of violence. Asked if he would tone things down for the family-friendly event, he replied: “For sure. I definitely want to be respectful to the viewers at home.

“I will still incorporate some of the storyline – it’s a very cohesive story I’ve been telling throughout this era and this year. The story will continue but definitely will keep it PG for the families. I’ll try my best.”

Meanwhile, Lil Baby has shared a number of details about his time spent working with Kanye West in Wyoming last year.

Idris Elba and Inner City reconvene for a soul house collaboration, ‘No More Looking Back’ – Dancing Astronaut Idris Elba and Inner City reconvene for a soul house collaboration, ‘No More Looking Back’

On “No More Looking Back,” Inner City and Idris Elba reconnect for the second time following 2020’s “We All Move Together” The two groups, made up of Kevin Saunderson, Dantiez Saunderson, vocalist Steffanie Christi’an, and Elba, have followed up their first work with a piano-heavy house cut topped with vocal chops that embellish the track with a soulful flair.

Released on the UK-based house label, Defected Records, “No More Looking Back” shares recognizable elements of classic house music with captivating snare drums and claps that underlie Christi’an’s soaring chops. The single channels an upbeat narrative of looking into the future, with no time wasted focusing on the past, and comes as an easy-listening follow-up to their previous work.

The first union, the politically charged and powerful intro to Inner City’s album—their first in almost 30 years— broke amidst the ongoing protests and marches surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement, which positioned “We All Move Together” as an anthem emblematic of positivity and unity through music.

Macious – Take My Light featuring F.A.R

Mark Crawford – aka Macious – drops a bright and bold new single entitled ‘Take My Light’ featuring up and coming alt-pop artist, F.A.R. The up-and-coming UK-based producer and DJ said the song was initially inspired during a rainy train journey to Amsterdam from Berlin in the summer. Full of anxiety and clouded judgement, Mark was getting his head around Covid-19 and how to break through the negative thoughts surrounding the virus. Check out the song below now and above the stream read a quote from Macious on the release! Enjoy.

“I wanted to release some thoughts/tension and turn them into a sound which really replicated the energy that was building up in me. The song was already produced a few months before but the lyrics came within seconds at this moment in thought. I intended to write the song to give the listener some energy to punch through their emotions and find a little clarity, or even just to groove out to the track. This has also shaped a new sound, which I have grown a big connection to over the last year and I hope this will with the audience too.” – Macious

New exhibition on 2 Tone music seeks public contributions

“The support we have received so far from band members, fans and industry experts has been incredible – however we would still like more contributions from fans.”

Curator Martin Roberts described the style as “a great aspect of Coventry culture that has gone all over the world”.

Submissions to the exhibition so far include a 2 Tone suit, Specials guitarist Roddy Radiation’s pork pie hat, a Fred Perry polo shirt and a Harrington jacket.

Back in 2019, there were calls from government to formally honour The Specials’ contribution to Coventry culture. Cllr Ed Ruane said the group should be “publicly recognised for putting Coventry on the map”.

acloudyskye Just Released One Of The Best Albums Of The Year, No Exaggeration

Last year when we were finalizing our Top 40 Artists To Watch list in December, we came across acloudyskye and his song, “Empty Space.” Based on pretty much this song alone, we added him to the list. Little did we know at the time that he would soon release an album so incredible that it would not only 1000% validate our choice, but also put him in contention for this year’s Top Albums list.

Blood Rushing Like Current Through A Powerline is definitely a mouthful, but it is the most satisfying umami your ears will ever experience.

The album begins with “Apologies.” acloudyskye sings on a lot of the tracks in this album, and this being our first introduction to his voice is a coming to God experience. It’s soft and sultry, it’s honest, and wonderful. But it’s also encompassed in an envelope of truly heartfelt production.

And this is a subjective observation, but the whole album feels very Sufjan Stevens-esque in its pacing and even in a lot of its instrumentation. It’s whimsical but always has a deep emotional direction and intention behind every song and note. With acloudyskye’s vocals also in the mix, the comparison becomes even more apparent.

Especially on songs like “Empty Space” and “Heliov,” coincidentally the two singles released ahead of the album, the interpolation of intense sounds and gritty synths against the delightful melodies, acloudyskye’s songwriting prowess becomes infinitely more unmistakable.

While reading about this album, I saw someone on social media mention something akin to, “I’ve had three ‘this is my favorite song on the album’ moments and I just finished track 3.” This album is special in that every song individually is incredibly good, but the sum of its parts is even more incredibly profound. It’s only when you’re able to listen to the album in its entirety that you get a sense of the pacing, the themes, the immense beauty of it all.

With Blood Rushing Like Current Through A Powerline, acloudyskye has truly done something remarkable. Listen below and let yourself just swim in the sounds for a bit.
