See the trailer of Tekashi 6ix9ine docu-series ‘Supervillian’

Tekashi 6ix9ine is painted as a supervillain in a new trailer for upcoming Showtime docuseries, Supervillain: The making of Tekashi 6ix9ine.

The trailer for the series – released today (January 28) – tracks the controversial rapper’s rise to one of the most fascinating figures in hip hop culture today.

The clip of just over two minutes also touches on the increase of 6ix9ine’s affiliation with gang members, which resulted in his arrest and prison sentence on racketeering and firearms charges, his testimony leading to the conviction of two members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.

Ending the trailer, 6ix9ine can be heard saying, “Superheroes always die, but villains never die.

“I want to be a villain.”

Supervillain will feature an interview with 6ix9ine that took place after the rapper was released from prison last year. Actor Giancarlo Espositio (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Mandalorian) will narrate the series.

The series is based on a feature written by Stephen Witt for Rolling Stone in 2019 and is directed by Karam Gill. The docuseries is set to premiere on Showtime’s on-demand platforms on February 21, concluding on March 7.

Last month, a lawsuit against 6ix9ine was reportedly filed by by two people over an incident in April 2018 in which they were robbed at gunpoint in the foyer of a New York City office building.

6ix9ine had already admitted to his involvement in the crime as part of a plea deal with US authorities last year.

In October 2020, 6ix9ine – real name Daniel Hernandez – was also sued for “child sexual assault, child sexual abuse and infliction of emotional distress”, stemming from an underage video created by the rapper in 2015.

Tune-Yards announce new album ‘Sketchy.’, drop fresh single ‘Hold Yourself’

Tune-Yards have announced the forthcoming release of their fifth studio album, ‘Sketchy’, as well as dropping new single ‘Hold Yourself’.

On social media, Tune-Yards declared “because the future exists!”, marking the album’s release date as March 26.

‘Sketchy.’ will be the California indie outfit’s first new collection in three years, following the release of ‘I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life’ in 2018.

The album will be released in several vinyl colours, including yellow opaque, translucent blue and standard black. Find the ‘Sketchy.’ tracklist below.

In a post to the duo’s Twitter today speaking of ‘Hold Yourself’ (January 28), Tune-Yards explained that that though the song was written in 2019, “the themes seem even more relevant today”.

In a statement, Tune-Yards’ Merrill Garbus elaborated, saying, “This song is about feeling really betrayed by my parents’ generation, and, at the same time, really seeing how we are betraying the future.”

The new track dropped alongside an impressive video, in which Tune-Yards – made up of Garbus and Nate Brenner – are depicted as psychedelic animations, the trippy story propelling the song’s heavy synth rhythms.

Watch it below:

‘hold yourself’ follows the release of ‘Nowhere, Man’ in September 2020, marking Tune-Yards’ first new material in two years.

The title of the distorted track references The Beatles‘ 1965 song, ‘Nowhere, Man’, and was accompanied by a stop-motion animated video created by Japhy Riddle and Callie Day.

In a four-star review of the band’s 2018 album, NME wrote, “Tune-Yards might have taken a deep breath and a step back, allowing their infectious melodies some space, but their breathless skew-whiff eclecticism remains anything but safe.”

Tune-Yards’ ‘Sketchy.’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Nowhere, Man’
2. ‘Make It Right.’
3. ‘Hypnotized’
4. ‘Homewrecker’
5. ‘Silence Pt. 1 (When We Say “We”)’
6. ‘Silence Pt. 2 (Who is “We”?)’
7. ‘Hold Yourself.’
8. ‘Sometime’
9. ‘Under Your Lip’
10. ‘My Neighbor’
11. ‘Be Not Afraid’

Goldenvoice in discussions to launch mass vaccination site – Dancing Astronaut

Coachella organizer and promoter Goldenvoice may soon be lending a hand to the COVID-19 vaccination process. With live event efforts in 2020 shut down industrywide including Coachella itself and further postponement highly likely, the festival producer has struck up discussions with Riverside County to potentially create a mass vaccination site in the California region.

With Goldenvoice’s longstanding experience, Riverside County officials aim to tap into the expertise and resources behind large-scale events like Coachella and Stagecoach. Having cited Goldenvoice’s 500-acre El Dorado Polo Club as a vaccination location, Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez states of the organizer,

“We know what they can do with the concerts, all the logistics and planning that takes place.”

Goldenvoice has expressed the company is “willing to be helpful and supportive.” As other major California entertainment venues including Dodger Stadium and Disneyland prepare to offer vaccination, Goldenvoice could be the latest player to join the distribution operation.

“It’s high on the agenda for us”

Mel C has discussed potential plans for the 25th anniversary of the Spice Girls‘ first single ‘Wannabe’.

Speaking in a new interview, the pop star (aka Sporty Spice) talked about what the group’s celebrations could look like for the song which topped charts across the world after it was released on July 8, 1996.

“It’s high on the agenda for us girls,” Mel C told the Pop Shop Podcast. “I mean, since we did the tour in 2019, I have just been like, ‘more shows, more shows!’ And, you know, obviously that isn’t something that’s gonna happen this year, sadly. So, again, a big old rethink.”

She continued: “We are working on some ideas. I can’t give too much away… but we definitely wanna celebrate and really acknowledge 25 years. It’s insane. We’re so proud of our legacy. So we do want to celebrate it in the best way that we can.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Mel C was asked about whether the group are planning on recording any new material.

“You know what, I think, when we talk about new music, we feel very nervous,” she admitted. “Because obviously we had such great success, and we have such a great back catalog. And we wouldn’t want to force anything. And we wouldn’t want to do anything that wasn’t good enough, you know?

“So we’ve always said if an opportunity came up and we felt… it was quite organic that it happens, then we would do it. But we kind of don’t wanna force it.”

Earlier this month, Mel C said that she thinks Victoria Beckham is “coming around” to the idea of rejoining the Spice Girls.
