Anjunabeats launches monthly series highlighting emergent talent – Dancing Astronaut

The culmination of 20 years resulted in a monumental anniversary for Above & Beyond‘s iconic record label Anjunabeats in 2020. Now, the trance and house centered institution sets its sights on the future with the launch of a new monthly series dedicated to promoting emergent talent. Appropriately titled Anjunabeats Rising, the new installment has already released its first volume featuring three tracks from rising talent Parallels, Nourey & ZOYA, and GVN.

Speaking on the launch of Anjunabeats Rising, Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant said,

“We’ve been thinking hard about how we can discover new talent for the next 20 years and we’re pleased to launch the Anjunabeats Rising EP series featuring new artists, new ideas, and new sounds to the label while all still feeling very Anjuna.”

From the intertwined saxophone elements of Nourey and ZOYA’s “All Night” to the vocal-infused classic trance sound of GVN’s “I Don’t,” Anjunabeats Rising – Volume 1 has solidified the new series’ place in dance music as a stellar hotbed for finding new, high-quality artists.

Clairo shares vulnerable new song ‘Just For Today’

Clairo has shared a vulnerable new song addressing depression and mental health, titled ‘Just For Today’.

The introspective new track features Clairo – real name Claire Cottrill – singing and playing guitar, and also getting briefly interrupted by her puppy Joanie.

The singer posted a screen recording of an audio file yesterday (January 26) on Instagram TV. Listen to ‘Just For Today’ below:

“Not sure about you, but my mental health has taken a major dip since quarantine started,” Cottrill wrote in an accompanying caption.

“At times I feel like I’ve never felt worse. New medication, hotlines, and one scheduled appointment with a psychiatrist later and I’m feeling more like myself again. I wrote this last night and i feel there’s no real reason I should hold onto it. Hope you enjoy the song and Joanie’s squeaks. Thank you.”

In October last year, Cottrill shared the first two songs from her new band, Shelly.

The new project features Cottrill, Phoebe Bridgers’ new signing Claud, and their friends Josh Mehling and Noa Frances Getzug.

“My best friends and I made a band and put out an A/B side – ‘Steeeam’ and ‘Natural’,” Clairo wrote on Instagram. “We created everything during quarantine in LA, Chicago, Houston and Atlanta. Hope you check it & enjoy.”

LMFAO’s Massive Hit “Party Rock Anthem” Just Turned 10 Years Old

LMFAO‘s guilty pleasure anthem celebrates a decade of party rocking…

The duo consisting of Redfoo and SkyBlu completely blew up in summer 2011 with “Party Rock Anthem,” the leading single off their sophomore album Sorry for Party Rocking. The song wasted no time topping charts around the globe, including Billboard‘s coveted Hot 100, where it reigned for six straight weeks — and it’s still one of the most successful Billboard hits of all time.

Not only that, “Party Rock Anthem” was one of the key electronic releases that infiltrated pop music, bringing EDM culture to the mainstream. The music video featured dancers performing the Melbourne shuffle to match the song’s iconic hook, Everyday I’m shuffling.

Featuring GoonRock and former Paradiso Girls‘ member Lauren Bennett, “Party Rock Anthem” had all the makings to be just that. The more it was played — and eventually, overplayed — the more everyone seemed to embrace the party rock lifestyle.

Listen again here!

Shambhala Music Festival farm to host campers beginning spring 2021 – Dancing Astronaut

In December of 2020, Shambhala Music Festival officially announced its 2021 return, slated for late August 2021. Now, organizers have announced that the festival grounds will be open for camping this year, as well.

Beginning spring 2021, the Shambhala farm will be available for “farmily” camping trips, without the festival ruckus. Festival founder Jimmy Bundschuh expanded on the aim of the camping initiative, stating that “after social distancing and public health measures have been lifted,” the campgrounds could host workshops, retreats, family reunions, or even weddings. Bundschuh also specified that some services for RVs will be available.

The Salmo River Ranch is located in British Columbia, Canada, and typically plays host to 15,000 fans during Shambhala’s regularly scheduled July festival. The 2020 festival lineup featured the likes of REZZ, RL Grime, Tycho, Seven Lions, Richie Hawtin, G Jones, and Bob Moses. There is no official word yet on the 2021 Shambhala lineup. For more information on the festival, or on the upcoming campgrounds, visit Shambhala’s website.

“I just wanted them to remember us”

Elvis Costello has recalled the time he and his band were banned from Saturday Night Live in the late ’70s.

On December 17,1977, Costello and his band The Attractions were booked to appear on the late night sketch show. They performed ‘Watching The Detectives’ and a few bars of ‘Less Than Zero’, a song his record label wanted him to perform, before making a swift decision to switch up the setlist.

“I’m sorry, ladies and gentlemen, but there’s no reason to do this song here,” Costello told the audience before opting instead to play ‘Radio, Radio’, a song which criticised the commercialisation of broadcasting.

It was because of this switch up and failing to communicate the change to longtime Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels that led Costello to being banned from the show until 1989.

Speaking in a new interview with Zane Lowe on for Apple Music, Costello revisited the stunt.

“We did end up on Saturday Night Live,” he said. “And I just wanted them to remember us. I didn’t really have anything against the show. I was more pissed off at being told what to play by the record company than I was NBC, truthfully.

He added: “I can’t remember whether I said what I was going to do, but I think I just said, ‘Watch me.’”

Costello has previously claimed he copied the onstage stunt from Jimi Hendrix, who halted his band midway through a performance of ‘Hey Joe’ to play a surprise rendition of ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ during a Cream tribute on Lulu‘s BBC show in 1969.

Meanwhile, Iggy Pop recently covered an Elvis Costello song taken from the musician’s latest album, ‘Hey Clockface’.

‘No Flag’, which is the second track from Costello’s album, has been re-versioned largely in French by the punk legend.

Costello said in a recent Musician on Musicians interview with Iggy for Rolling Stone that the original ‘No Flag’ was a nod to Iggy And The Stooges’ 1969 classic ‘No Fun’.

Coachella producer in talks to develop site for mass vaccinations

Vaccinations are beginning to roll out, but they still need to be administered much more quickly than the current rate to get to everyone, all 328 million people in the US, in a timely fashion. To date, there have been dozens of tweets and armchair posts about how the concert industry could get it done faster with its expertise in logistics and planning. It appears Riverside County has taken note.

“Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said he’s in discussion with Goldenvoice, the producer of the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals, about tapping into the company’s expertise to create a mass vaccination site,” writes Desert Sun.

“We know what they can do with the concerts, all the logistics and planning that takes place,” Perez said during a Board of Supervisors meeting nearly three weeks ago.

Massive sites like Disneyland and Dodger Stadium are already being set up to accommodate mass vaccinations, so the Polo Grounds in Indio could be next.

Thomas Gold, R3SPAWN, and David Shane start 2021 on a high note with the euphoric ‘Letting Go’ – Dancing Astronaut

Thomas Gold made his debut on Protocol Recordings in 2020 and is already back with a new single on the label, “Letting Go” alongside R3SPAWN, featuring David Shane. “Letting Go” is a feel good anthem that aims to start 2021 on a high note. The breaks are nothing short of euphoric, which is characteristic of the producer’s output as of late.

Like Gold, Shane is no stranger to Protocol. The vocalist was notably featured on Nicky Romero and Timmo Hendrik‘s “Into the Light,” distributed by the label the week prior. “Letting Go” is Gold’s sixth release on Romero’s Protocol Recordings, and serves as a testament to the fact that he can be forecast as a label regular, given that his original Protocol release came out just nine months ago.

Ben Howard shares new single ‘What A Day’ and announces fourth album

Ben Howard has returned with a new single called ‘What A Day’ – you can listen to it below.

The London singer-songwriter, whose last album ‘Noonday Dream’ came out in 2018, teased his comeback on social media earlier this week.

Premiering on BBC Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World this evening (January 26), ‘What A Day’ serves as the first taste of Howard’s upcoming fourth album ‘Collections From The Whiteout’, which will arrive on March 26 via Island.

Howard co-produced the record alongside The National‘s Aaron Dessner, who last year helmed Taylor Swift‘s surprise albums ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’.

The record, described as Howard’s “most fully realised to date”, marks “the first time Ben has opened the door to production outside of he and his bands closer confine”. Collaborators include pianist Thomas Bartlett (St. Vincent) and Bon Iver‘s longtime string arranger Rob Moose, who’s also worked with Laura Marling and Phoebe Bridgers.

You can pre-order/pre-save ‘Collections From The Whiteout’ here, and see its official artwork below.

‘What A Day’ is accompanied by a Cloe Bailly-directed official video, which was shot in Bulgaria. “This was a nonsense idea loosely thrown together on the Old English rhyme, ‘back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other’ with a bit of animal hysteria thrown in,” Howard explained.

“Cloe somehow transformed a basic countryside shoot ‘em up into an amazing tale of delightful retribution.”

Back in January 2019, Howard shared the song ‘Heave Ho’ in celebration of his four-night stint at Brixton Academy in London.
