Watch Nandi Bushell cover My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’

Nandi Bushell has tackled My Chemical Romance’s ‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ for her latest cover.

The young musician first went viral for her impressive covers a year ago, when she shared a video of her drumming along to Queens Of The Stone Age’s ‘No One Knows’.

With several other viral covers under her belt, Bushell has entered her “emo phase” with her latest video. The clip shows the 10-year-old dressed up in a marching band outfit – a reference to the costumes worn by My Chemical Romance during the Black Parade era – while nailing the drum part to the 2006 song.

“I love being able to let out all my energy after a stressful week of home learning and online exams,” Bushell tweeted about the cover. “My daddy said I am starting to go through an #emo phase as I discovered @mychemicalromance this week!” Watch the video below now.

‘Welcome To The Black Parade’ isn’t the musician’s first cover of 2021. Earlier this month, she marked Jimmy Page’s 77th birthday with an ambitious cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’, which saw her taking on the drum, guitar and bass parts.

Before that, she shared a cover of Blur’s ‘Song 2’ in a tribute to her burgeoning love of Britpop, saying she had been learning about “this awesome battle between 2 bands called Blur and Oasis”.

Last year, Bushell caught the attention of Dave Grohl after her take on Nirvana’s ‘In Bloom’ went viral. The star responded to a challenge posed by Bushell in the summer in which the aspiring rocker challenged the 51-year-old to a drum-off through a video she posted covering Foo Fighters‘ hit song ‘Everlong’.

Grohl then composed a superhero theme for Bushell, which she then duly responded to, penning ‘Rock and Grohl – The EPIC Battle’.

FKA Twigs teases release of new music this week

FKA Twigs has taken to Instagram to tease the release of new music this week, over a year after the release of her second album ‘MAGDALENE’.

The short post was accompanied by a selfie of Twigs – real name Tahliah Barnett – with the caption: “did someone say they wanted new music? might have something for you this week…”. Read the post below.

Information on new music from the singer is scarce at the moment. In November last year, Barnett revealed she had recorded a new song with Dua Lipa that the latter then teased in their ‘Studio 2054’ live-stream. Barnett shared the snippet to her Instagram below.

Pa Salieu revealed to NME for a Big Read interview earlier this month he had worked with Barnett in the studio last year, pictured with her in June.

“She was humble,” he recalled of their eventual meet-up and collaboration. “She’s got nothing to gain over me; you feel the energy.”

Barnett is set to launch her own Sonos Radio show next month, entitled Main Squeeze, and featuring tracks from the likes of Ashanti, Pink Floyd and Larry Heard.

Barnett recently sued Shia LaBeouf, accusing him of sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress throughout their relationship, which took place between 2018 and 2019.

In a lengthy message posted to Twitter and Instagram after news of the lawsuit broke, Twigs wrote: “it may be surprising to you to learn that i was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship. it was hard for me to process too, during and after i never thought something like this would happen to me.

“which is why i have decided it’s important for me to talk about it and try to help people understand that when you are under the coercive control of an abuser or in an intimate partner violent relationship leaving doesn’t feel like a safe or achievable option.”

In response to Twigs’ allegations, which were reported in the New York Times, LaBeouf said, “I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel. I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can say.”

Ghost Ship organizer pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter – Dancing Astronaut

The master tenant of the Oakland warehouse known as the Ghost Ship pled guilty to 36 charges of involuntary manslaughter after the building suffered a devastating fire during an event in 2016 that ended in the tragic loss of 36 lives. Derick Almena, 50, pled guilty in exchange for a 12-year sentence, avoiding a second trial after the first ended with no verdict. As part of the plea agreement, Almena will face between nine and 12 years in jail but was already released on bail last year and likely won’t return due to credited time served and good behavior.

Last summer, the City of Oakland reached a settlement in Ghost Ship case as they agreed to pay a total of $32.7 million dollars to those impacted by the tragic warehouse fire. Of the settlement money, $23.5 million will be paid to the families of the 36 victims who lost their lives, and the remaining $9.2 million will go to Sam Maxwell, a survivor of the warehouse fire who escaped the burning building, but suffered permanent injuries.

The fire happened during an underground house and ambient party for the 100% Silk record label on December 2, 2016 at an industrial Oakland warehouse in which Almena was accused of illegally converting into an artist collective work space. Owners of the property had prior knowledge of the building’s electrical issues prior to the disaster, as Almena and resident Max Harris emailed both property managers Kai and his sister Eva Ng, suggesting the “overexertion” on the building’s electrical supply was dangerous. It later came to light that authorities were aware of the unsafe conditions and that Oakland’s city officials ultimately failed to enforce building and fire codes that could have prevented the blaze.

Miley Cyrus announces Super Bowl performance for vaccinated healthcare workers

Miley Cyrus is set to perform at the 2021 Super Bowl, playing an inaugural pre-game event to an audience of vaccinated healthcare workers.

Dubbed ‘TikTok Tailgate’, the pre-game event will see 7,500 vaccinated healthcare workers gather at the famed Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

Cyrus and the NFL both made announcements late last night (January 24). This follows an announcement from earlier this week, in which the NFL said it would be allowing 22,000 people to attend Super Bowl LV, including free admission for frontline healthcare workers.

“I can’t wait to put on a show for the NFL’s honored guests before the game,” Cyrus wrote. “Health care workers from Tampa and around the country!”

The performance will air on the TikTok app and CBS on February 7, kicking off at 2:30PM ET (7:30PM GMT).

The Weeknd will also be making an appearance on the night, as the coveted halftime act, while Eric Church and Jazmine Sullivan have been recruited to sing ‘Star Spangled Banner’ and H.E.R. for ‘America The Beautiful’.

Miley Cyrus’ set is likely to feature cuts from her recent album ‘Plastic Hearts’, released in November last year via RCA. The four-star album was led by ‘Midnight Sky’ before making waves with the Stevie Nicks mashup ‘Edge Of Midnight’, Dua Lipa collaboration ‘Prisoner’ and covers of Blondie’s ‘Heart Of Glass’ and The Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’.

In an Instagram post from earlier this month, Cyrus promised “more fucking music” would arrive later this year.

Mat Zo’s shares live version of ‘Problems’ featuring Olan [Watch] – Dancing Astronaut

Mat Zo has shared a live rendition of his track “Problems” featuring Olan taken from his third studio album, Illusion of Depth, which was named one of Dancing Astronaut‘s best of 2020.

The “lockdown” version of this staggering acid-club original work undulates into a refreshing blend of indie-rock and new wave tropes. The featured live session showcases Olan’s haunting vocals and eccentric guitar talents juxtaposed against Mat Zo’s re-imagined live drum grooves that draw on the familiar sounds of the psychedelia or acid punk genre of the late 1960’s.

Atlanta-native singer and songwriter, Olan, performed an intricate role on the Grammy-nominated producer’s nearly feature-free album by appearing on such singles as “Colours,” “Problems,” and “Paralysis.” Recorded in lockdown, Mat Zo and Olan prove to be a formidable pair, even when separated by social distancing measures. Watch the new live version of “Problems,” which you watch below.
