Justin Bieber reflects on seven years since his DUI arrest: “Let your past be a reminder of how far God has brought you”

Justin Bieber has marked the seventh anniversary of his DUI arrest with a reflective post shared to his Instagram.

In 2014, the pop singer was pulled over in Miami, Florida, after his yellow Lamborghini was spotted racing another vehicle just after 4am on January 22.

The then 19-year-old reportedly resisted arrest and failed a sobriety test, with Bieber telling arresting officers he had “been smoking marijuana and he did consume a beer”.

Bieber was arrested for drunk driving and driving without a valid license and spent a night in gaol before being released on a £1,505 ($2,500) bond.

The following year, Bieber spoke out about the experience, claiming “The police just wanted press. I never was speeding; I never was drag racing.”

In a post to his Instagram overnight (January 23), the now 26-year-old ‘Changes’ singer marked the seventh anniversary of his arrest, sharing a photo to Instagram and a reflective statement on who he has become since.

“7 years ago today I was arrested, not my finest hour. Not proud of where I was at in my life,” Bieber’s post began. “I was hurting, unhappy, confused, angry, mislead, misunderstood and angry at god..”

Bieber continued in his post to say he now realises that “God was as close to me then as he is right now”.

“My encouragement to you is to ‘let your past be a reminder of how far god has brought you. Don’t allow shame to ruin your “today”.”

Bieber – despite more repeated references to his unwavering faith today – recently denied rumours that he is training to become a religious minister with Hillsong Church, calling the report from OK! Magazine “fake news”.

Bieber responded, “I’m not studying to be a minister or anything even close to that. Have no desire…”

Seven Lions Remixes his 2016 Collab on “Rush Over Me” With Classic Trance Sound

“Rush Over Me” came out in 2016 with Seven Lions, Illenium, Said The Sky, and HALIENE, and remains one of the most intensely emotional melodic bass tunes of the past five years — with those artists together, who could be surprised? But Seven Lions has never been one to stay in one lane, mixing dubstep, trance, psytrance, and even folk with his regular productions.

As we enter a new year, Seven Lions has announced his 1999 EP, a collection of four tracks transformed into the classic trance vibes of 1999. First up from the forthcoming release is a remix of the 2016 bass track, which is reconstructed to glorious throwback precision. Starting with the classic kick snare combo and quickly introducing iconic trance synths and rhythm, we’re instantly transported to a time long past.

Speaking about the impetus to create the 1999 EP, Seven Lions says,

“2020 was a strange and honestly really demotivating year for me. I was having a hard time feeling inspired and creative in the studio so I decided to just do some musical therapy and make old school trance remixes of some of my older tracks. I had a great time making these songs. They have a nostalgic vibe for me and it made me remember how much I love the process of making music, especially with zero expectations. It definitely worked and has brought me a lot of focus and I’ve been really happy just being at home and making loads of music that I’m excited to share with you down the line. For now I hope these songs bring you as much joy as they brought me!”

Check out the remix and relive the original below!

TDE boss hints new Kendrick Lamar music is on the way

Top Dawg Entertainment president Punch has hinted that new music from Kendrick Lamar could be on the way soon.

The rapper hasn’t released an album since 2017’s ‘Damn.’, with his only new music since appearing on the Black Panther soundtrack.

Podcast host Karen Civil extended an invitation to Punch on Twitter to come on her podcast Girl I Guess, asking at the same time: “Can we play that new Kendrick you played me?”

“YES!” Punch replied. “Soon.” See the interaction below now.

Lamar is due to headline Roskilde Festival in Denmark this summer. When he was confirmed to be part of the line-up, a post from the festival read: “Two albums later – and with new material along the way – he is once again ready to take Roskilde Festival’s main stage with a concert that is likely to be one of the absolute highlights of the summer.”

In August, the rapper was spotted shooting what was believed to be a new music video in Los Angeles.

Clips began to be shared online last summer of Lamar being filmed as he was suspended by a crane over the ocean, wearing a white outfit. Photos also captured the rapper sitting down, using a phone booth while wearing a white sweatshirt and yellow shorts.

Around the same time, Thundercat also spoke about working with the rapper on new music. “When I was working with Kendrick, I was excited. Some of my favorite moments recording were spent with Kendrick… I think I worked on the new [album] a little bit too,” he told Neet Tokyo.

Meanwhile, Lamar was confirmed in November to be headlining Irish festival Longitude in 2021. He will be joined at the top of the bill, coronavirus permitting, by Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky.

Eminem steps into the ring in new video for ‘Higher’

Eminem has released a new video for his ‘Music To Be Murdered By – Side B’ track ‘Higher’ – scroll down the page to watch it now.

The video sees the rapper – whose real name is Marshall Mathers – step into the wrestling ring and take part in a mock interview with ESPN’s Michael Eaves and UFC boss Dana White.

The clip premiered during the ESPN pre-show for Conor McGregor’s match against Dustin Poirier at the mixed martial arts event, which is taking place tonight (January 23) in Abu Dhabi.

After White predicted Eminem would lose the fictional fight he was gearing up for, the rapper responded: “People like you give people like me the fuel they need to succeed in the first place,” Eminem said. “The best part about your opinion is that it doesn’t matter.” Watch the video below now.

ESPN’s music director Kevin Wilson said in a statement: “It’s always been amazing to be able to work with Eminem for promotional and programming content on various ESPN properties over the years. To be able to work on this video together with his team – not only featuring our team’s great UFC coverage but also debuting it exclusively on ABC, is just invaluable.”

A clip of Eminem telling White his opinion “doesn’t matter” went viral earlier this week (January 22) after it was broadcast on ESPN’s Sportscenter show. Unaware of the upcoming music video, fans assumed the interview was real.

Meanwhile, Eminem recently gave a humble estimation of his legacy, saying he doesn’t think he’s as influential as some other rap legends.

“I know I’ve been around for a minute, but I don’t feel like honestly, in my heart of hearts, I don’t feel like anything I did, anything I’ve done up to this point is more influential than they were to their era,” he told Zane Lowe in a recent interview.

“To me, I will never mean more than they meant to their era.”

Silk City Drop First Song Since 2018, “New Love” with Ellie Goulding [MUST LISTEN]

Diplo and Mark Ronson aka Silk City team up with Ellie Goulding for their first release since their 2018 hot streak, “New Love.”

The Grammy Award-winning DJ/producer superduo absolutely shine on the track, celebrating the classic house and disco sounds that have inspired them so much throughout their careers. “New Love” rocks nostalgic dance elements and a smooth, zesty groove of its own, as Ellie Goulding’s powerhouse voice cuts through the mix with feel-good attitude. It’s a new school approach to a tried and true method, and we fall a little more in love with the track with each listen.

I’ve known Mark and Wes for years and it seemed only right to make a tune together, at a time where we all need to dance and be free, even if just in our kitchens. The song is about losing yourself on your own, not needing to be seen, knowing that the one that got away could be just as happy as this too. The main concept is dancing on your own not needing to be seen. – Ellie Goulding

Named after the Philadelphia diner where the pair first met more than 20 years ago, Silk City is a celebration of classic dance music. After decades of friendship, Diplo and Ronson entered the studio together in 2018 and churned out hits — “Only Can Get Better” featuring Daniel Merriweather, “Feel About You” featuring Mapei, “Loud” with GoldLink and Desiigner, and “Electricity” with Dua Lipa.

Listen to the lastest from Silk City right here!

Chris McClure reflects on being face of Arctic Monkeys’ debut album on 15th anniversary

Chris McClure has reflected on having his photo used as the artwork for Arctic Monkeys’ debut album as the record hits its 15th anniversary.

‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ featured a photo of McClure smoking as its album cover.

McClure, who is the brother of Reverend And The Makers’ Jon McClure, has joined fans marking the album’s 15th anniversary on social media.

“15 years,” he tweeted earlier today (January 23). “What a record. Met some great people since… literally through having my photo taken. Pleasure to be associated with it.” See the post, which featured a colour version of a photo from the same night, below now.

Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders has revealed the band are in the “early stages” of making a new album. Speaking on Instagram Live earlier this month (January 13), the star said the Sheffield band had been “faced with the obvious obstacles” while working on the follow-up to ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino’.

“Being separated by the sea is one of them,” Helders said, referring to the travel restrictions that have been imposed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re all eager to do it – we would have been doing it by now in a normal time. There’s definitely a desire from our end to do a new record as soon as we can.”

Last month, the band’s manager said the group were “working on new music” and had initially planned to start recording last summer.

“We’re all eager to do it – we would have been doing it by now in a normal time. There’s definitely a desire from our end to do a new record as soon as we can.”

REPORT: Ultra Music Festival Canceled for 2021

Ultra Music Festival is reportedly canceled for 2021.

With no festival lineup just a couple months out and coronavirus (COVID-19) cases still on the rise, the news doesn’t exactly come as a shock. This will mark the second time the major music festival has been forced to cancel due to the pandemic; it was one of, if not the first in 2020 to be canceled due to COVID-19.

According to a report from Billboard, organizers are looking into 2022 for Ultra’s much-anticipated return. In a letter obtained by the publication, Ultra attorney Sandy York addresses Miami city manager Arthur Noriega: “we respectfully request the rescheduled dates to be March 25, 26, and 27, 2022.”

An Ultra rep has provided Billboard with a further statement:

Given the current status of the pandemic in relation to mass gatherings and the public health considerations of our local community, we are working cooperatively with our city partners and plan to release an official festival update soon.

Stay tuned for an official announcement.
