New Radicals reunite for first time in 22 years

New Radicals reunited for the first time in 22 years during a virtual event celebrating president Joe Biden’s inauguration today (January 20).

The Los Angeles band are best known for their 1998 hit single ‘You Get What You Give’, but famously separated just months after its release.

Appearing on stage together for the first time in over two decades, New Radicals took part in the Parade Across America broadcast which was streamed shortly after president Biden was sworn in at the US Capitol.

“When we heard ‘You Get What You Give’ was a Biden family anthem, we pledged if Joe won we’d get together and play our little song – both in memory and in honour of our new president’s patriot son Beau,” frontman Gregg Alexander said to introduce the performance.

Alexander went on to say that he hoped Biden would be “able to bring our country together again”, adding: “Joe, Kamala – this one’s for you.”

Posting the live reunion on Twitter (watch above), the Biden Inaugural Committee said: “We are honoured that the New Radicals reunited for this moment (featuring one of [Second Gentleman] Doug Emhoff’s favourite songs!)”

Emhoff, vice president Kamala Harris’ husband, picked ‘You Get What You Give’ as his walk-on song during the 2020 presidential campaign. President Biden previously opened up about his personal connection to the tune, which he described as a “theme song” during his son Beau Biden’s battle with cancer.

“During breakfast, Beau would often make me listen to what I thought was his theme song, ‘You Get What You Give’ by the New Radicals,” Biden wrote in his 2018 memoir, Promise Me, Dad.

Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters and Katy Perry are due to perform on the Celebrating America live-stream later tonight. During the inauguration ceremony, Lady Gaga sang the US national anthem before Jennifer Lopez delivered a medley of songs.

phonon Signs With Prodigy Artists For Management, UTA For Booking

phonon just started releasing music last year and has already made a massive impact on the bass scene as a whole. After releasing “polyriddim” and essentially jumpstarting a whole new trend, his debut set with Halcyon x Space Yacht was so good we had to write a whole article on it.

By the end of the year, phonon was the face of our annual 40 Artists To Watch list.

Now as we head into the new year, the moves keep coming as he signs with Prodigy Artists, home to NGHTMRE, SLANDER, JOYRYDE, Ghastly, SVDDEN DEATH, and more. In the same vein, he’s signed with Jake Bernstein and Ben Hogan at United Talent Agency for booking, one of, if not the top booking agency in the game for electronic music/bass acts.

“polyriddim” currently sits at over 400K on Spotify and YouTube each, with over a million plays across major platforms. Considering it was only his second song ever, that’s a major achievement. He also recently released a 7-minute long experimental epic, “Emme” on Halcyon.

Keep an eye on phonon this year because it only gets better from here!

The duo’s first release is a remix of BT & Iraina Mancini’s “The War,” due January 22. Music world pay tribute to Mac Miller on what would have been his 29th birthday

A host of stars have paid tribute to Mac Miller on what would have been his 29th birthday.

The late rapper passed away in September 2018 at the age of 26 following an accidental overdose.

Among those paying tribute on what would have been his birthday yesterday (January 19) were his friend and rapper Thundercat, who simply wrote: “Happy birthday Mac.”

Vince Staples also paid his respects adding: “HCD to the Legend,” while Juicy J added: “R.I.P. Mac Miller we miss you mane.” Ty Dolla $ign also marked the late rapper’s passing.

More tributes came from Disclosure, Radio 1 and MTV. You can view a selection below.

Meanwhile, Ariana Grande fans recently clocked what they believe to be a subtle tribute to Mac Miller on the pop star’s recent album ‘Positions’. Grande dated Miller for two years before they split in 2018.

TikTok user Maralee Bell claimed that the record’s title track features the sound of crickets when the star sings the line, “Heaven sent you to me”, with the same effect appearing on ‘Just Like Magic’ as Grande delivers the lyrics, “Take my pen and write some love letters to heaven”.

It was suggested that this is a subtle nod to Miller and his unreleased track ‘Crickets’.

A new Mac Miller box set called ‘Swimming In Circles’ was also recently released by the late rapper’s family.

Released last December, the box set combined Miller’s final two albums – ‘Swimming’ and ‘Circles’ – which according to his family was how he wanted to present the projects.

“We are proud to present the Swimming In Circles box set: a presentation of the two albums Malcolm always saw as a fully-realized, dual body of work,” the rapper’s family previously said in a statement. “It includes the music, as well as images of Malcolm taken all over the world by those closest to him as he recorded the albums—memories of him we will forever hold dearly.”

Arcando Impresses On New Single ‘Still Be Friends’ About A Confusing Love Relationship

Marc Bandecchi professionaly known as Arcando is back with his first release of 2021 ‘Still Be Friends’ out now on Lowly. The Dutch producer has built a ton of momentum throughout 2020 with releases on Future Generation, NCS, and Lowly. After finding his sweet spot straddled between house and trap, he’s kicking off the new year with his new chill original ‘Still Be Friends.’

Arcando uses his music as his emotional outlet with this single, acting as the sole writer, producer, and vocalist on ‘Still Be Friends.’ The record is an uplifting and groovy ballad complimented by Marc’s stellar vocals. The record perfectly weaves the line between relaxing and dancing elements as the song is both soothing and groovy, perfect for a long nights ride.

On ‘Still Be Friends’ Marc talks about a confusing love relationship that is about to end with the question remaining, are we able to be a part of each other’s lives? Arcando’s recent relationship was the motive behind this song. Music helps bring out the emotions and confusion that we all go through when dealing with heartbreak, which is why you can notice a big change in his sound on ‘Still Be Friends.’

ATB x Topic x A7S – Your Love (9pm) – Dancing Astronaut

ATB re-imagines his platinum-selling 1998 classic “9pm (Till I Come)” with the help of exciting young producer Topic and the vocal stylings of A7S. Now called “Your Love (9pm),” the first-ever official remake with ATB’s blessing, this modern spin on the 23-year-old hit keeps the iconic melody intact with a brand new top line and all the polish of modern production techniques. Now bigger and bolder than ever before, with an anthemic vocal, “Your Love” doesn’t just re-make the original — it improves upon it. Flexing two decades of refined production acumen, ATB’s sequel might be even better than the original — and for a hit as iconic as the original that’s really saying something.
