Viral ‘Dreams’ skateboarder Nathan Apodaca to appear in virtual Biden inauguration

Nathan Apodaca, aka @420doggface208, will appear as part of Joe Biden‘s virtual Inauguration Day celebrations this Wednesday (January 20).

TMZ reports that Biden’s inauguration team recently reached out to the online sensation, who achieved viral fame last year with a TikTok video in which he skateboarded down a road to Fleetwood Mac‘s hit ‘Dreams’ while drinking from a bottle of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice.

Biden’s team were reportedly inspired to contact Apodaca after seeing “how his feel-good video uplifted the world this past fall during social unrest and pandemic anxiety”. His agent has since confirmed that Apodaca agreed to be a part of the virtual ‘Parade Across America’ livestream, and has already filmed a segment in which he skateboards from his home in Idaho.

Since Apodaca first posted the clip in September of last year, it’s racked up tens of millions of views on the platform, with streams of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ hit seeing a significant spike as the video’s popularity grew.

Band members Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood filmed their own versions, along with ex-guitarist Lindsey Buckingham.

Shortly after sharing his remake, Fleetwood surprised Apodaca in an interview with the BBC. “We owe you,” the drummer told Apodaca during the broadcast. “It’s such a celebration of everything. I’ve heard you talking about it, and it’s so joyous and fun”.

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that long-defunct 90s rockers New Radicals would be reuniting to perform together for the first time in over two decades as part of the ‘Parade Across America’ broadcast, which is set to take place after the swearing-in ceremony at Captiol.

Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Foo Fighters are among other acts set to perform at various inauguration events on the day.

MIKE MAGO presents ‘COLD GROOVE’

The party has officially started as Dutch DJ/producer Mike Mago releases his ecstatic new single ‘Cold Groove’. Featuring warm soulful vocals and a lively, disco-infused rhythm, it’s a record that breathes positivity as well as a need to start dancing again. ‘Cold Groove’ provides a much-needed soundtrack to everyone looking for a good time.

Of course, Dutch DJ Mike Mago is already widely known for delivering feel-good house tunes as steady as the clock. After his 2014 breakthrough hit single ‘Outlines’ (featuring Dragonette) took him to the stars, he continued to stay on top of his game, blasting out major tracks on his own label, the reputed BMKLTSCH Records, as well as work up some high profile remixes for Avicii, Clean Bandit, and Ellie Goulding.

‘Cold Groove’ can easily be perceived as the next pinnacle in Mike Mago’s ever-evolving output. Setting the tone with a sweet, wobbly bassline and funky guitar licks, the record builds on a true disco vibe with prominent soulful vocals and flashy sound effects. It’s modern-day dance music, but with an organic soul, nicely blending tantalizing synths with bass, guitar, and emotionally driven lyrics.

Leave it to Mike Mago to breathe new life into the year, with this upbeat tune he not only winks at classic disco but also lets us step into the future with a positive mindset. This ‘Cold Groove’ is bound to warm your heart anytime soon.

“I feel every production I make is a step closer to the music I think should be added to the dance scene. I aimed to combine a layered soul voice and lyric to an uplifting disco beat to create a unique tune to dance to but that still has the depth emotionally.” – Mike Mago

Griff shares new dark pop anthem ‘Black Hole’

Griff has dropped a new single, ‘Black Hole’, marking her first new release of the year.

The release was coupled with a lyric video, featuring grainy footage of the singer encapsulated within a pin-hole camera shot.

Watch it below:

In a press statement, Griff described the track as “a bittersweet heartbreak track”.

“I actually love how melodramatic it is, as there’s obviously not ‘a big black hole where my heart used to be’”, Griff added.

“But the melodrama of the lyrics – over a really interesting beat – keeps the song fun, and not too serious.”

‘Black Hole’ follows a string of singles from Griff last year, including ‘1,000,000 X Better’, ‘Say It Again’, ‘Forgive Myself’ and more.

In an interview with NME, Griff explained she wrote ‘Forgive Myself’ in a period of time where she felt “a lot of relationships in [her] life…had almost come to an end”.

“The main lyric is I gave my heart to the wrong somebody else and I need to forgive myself,” she said.

“Often, I think you internally beat yourself up for doing that because with hindsight you’re like ‘obviously that relationship was not right’. You’ve gotta just cut yourself some slack you know.”

Stevie Wonder calls on Biden administration to launch commission on racial inequality

Stevie Wonder has shared an open letter on Martin Luther King Jr day (January 18) in which he urges the incoming Joe Biden administration to launch a commission on inequality.

The singer shone light on racial issues on MLK day today (a federal holiday that marks the late civil rights activist’s birthday) by making an emotional speech in a four-minute video.

In the clip Wonder reminisces about meeting Dr King when he was 14 years old, hailing him a “true hero and inspiration”.

But the musician says that the “needle has not moved one iota” for racial equality. He tells an imagined King that “you would not believe the lack of progress; it makes me physically sick”.

Wonder continues: “I am sick that truth is struggling to be heard and defended. Those who promote lies and false truth must be held accountable. It is the only way we can move forward.”

The iconic musician then asks for the Biden-Harris administration to launch a formal investigation to “establish the truth of inequality in this country” and recommend conciliation.

“Without truth, we cannot have accountability. Without accountability, we cannot have forgiveness. Without forgiveness, we cannot heal,” he says.

Wonder’s plea comes on the same day that artists including Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Khalid, T.I., Vic Mensa, Ty Dolla $ign and more urged the Biden-Harris administration to initiate a racial justice initiative during its first 100 days in office [via Complex].

The Black Music Action Coalition has joined forces with #breathewithme Revolution for the move, and posted a video titled ‘17 More Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America’ to kick off the initiative.

Migos‘ Offset and Quavo, 070 Shake, and Summer Walker are also seen in the campaign video listing the names of victims of police brutality.

Meanwhile, Biden is to be inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday (January 20). Lady Gaga is set to sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at the ceremony.

Ellie Goulding Hints at Collab with Silk City [Diplo x Mark Ronson]

Days ago we reported on Silk City‘s imminent return and now it seems Ellie Goulding has something to do with it…

Last week, Diplo signaled the return of his collaborative project with Mark Ronson through a short, neon-tinged video featuring their logo and a simple caption: “it’s been a minute.” This was enough to get house/disco fans insanely hyped — and then Goulding then stepped in with her own promo.

In a follow-up tweet posted moments ago, she shares a website link for the project, “opening soon.” In addition, and image of her drinking from a Silk City-branded milk carton.

Back in August, this short video clip made its rounds on the internet, the original source being Diplo’s Instagram Story. The 4-second teaser revealed a new Silk City track in the works, with vocals sounding remarkably similar to the unmistakable Ellie Goulding.

Listen below.

The last original smash we heard from Silk City came in the form of “Electricity” featuring Dua Lipa in 2018. They followed up in 2019 with a remix of Robyn’s “Missing U.” Tapping another powerhouse vocalist such as Goulding keeps up with the Silk City trend.

Ellie Goulding confirms role in Silk City’s return – Dancing Astronaut

Silk City are making a comeback, and they’re bringing Ellie Goulding with them.

Just one day after both Diplo and Mark Ronson confirmed via respective January 13 tweets that a Silk City return of some sort was in the works, Goulding signaled her involvement with a tweet that linked out to the same website that Diplo and Ronson’s did, “The New Love Club.” Though the extent of Goulding’s role in Silk City’s reactivation and the details that surround it currently remain unclear, it is possible that Goulding will feature on the song that Diplo and Ronson previewed in their tweets at a minimum. For now, fans can RSVP on The New Love Club for whatever comes next.

Donald Trump orders construction of 250 statues including Whitney Houston, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash

Outgoing US president Donald Trump has ordered the construction of 250 statues, following through on a previous pledge to build a ‘Garden of American Heroes’.

In an executive order issued today (January 18), Trump released a list of all 250 of the statues to be constructed, with little indication of the motives behind the selection. They range from historical figures and politicians to sportspeople and light entertainers.

Among the musicians whose statues will be constructed are Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.

Bizarrely, Trump’s list of American Heroes contains a number of non-Americans. Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman, British director Alfred Hitchcock, and Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, a Canadian, are all to have statues in the garden.

“The National Garden will be built to reflect the awesome splendour of our country’s timeless exceptionalism,” Trump said in the order.

“It will be a place where citizens, young and old, can renew their vision of greatness and take up the challenge that I gave to every American in my first address to Congress, to ‘[b]elieve in yourselves, believe in your future, and believe, once more, in America.’”

He also described the garden as “America’s answer” to “reckless” vandalism of statues of American historical figures during widespread protests for racial equality last year.

Trump announced his plans to build The National Garden last summer during his doomed re-election campaign.

After he promised a statue of Frank Sinatra, the singer’s daughter Nancy said her father had “loathed” Trump.
