Tchami Expertly Remixes Whethan’s “Freefall” feat. Oliver Tree [LISTEN]

For his latest remix, Tchami transforms Whethan‘s hit collaboration with Oliver Tree, “Freefall” into a soulful house production.

The original struck a chord with its forward-thinking, hybrid blend of pop, alt-rock, and electronic, feeding Oliver Tree’s signature sound with energy to match a Whethan set. Tchami drastically changes up the mood for his remix, transcending into a soft, melodic four on the floor atmosphere with a deep groove.

Tchami’s “Freefall” remix continues to hype Whethan’s debut album, FANTASY, which released in October 2020. The body of work includes collabs with RL Grime, K.Flay, grandson and more.

Whethan previously shared of the album:

Fantasy is getting on a spaceship and teleporting anywhere your dreams can imagine. I wanted to make a project that was full of energy and artists that I’m inspired by. There was an underlying theme of alternative meets psychedelic dance music and I wanted to be able to blast every song at my shows or have it feel like you’re at a show when listening at home or in the car.

Experience “Freefall” from a different perspective here.

Get some ‘Beauty Sleep’ with John Summit’s latest tech house hit – Dancing Astronaut

John Summit was named one of Dancing Astronaut’s Artists to Watch in 2021 largely due to the massive success of “Deep End,” which was widely supported by DJs and listeners alike. Now, just two weeks into the new year, the rising Chicago house talent might just have another smash hit on his hands.

Summit’s latest, “Beauty Sleep,” was written 10 months ago at the beginning of quarantine. Since then, Summit has gotten plenty of use out of the tech house groover in his livestreamed sets, most recently during his Day Trip Insomniac performance. The strength of “Beauty Sleep” lies in the tonal contrast it houses; the build features dazzling synth work and delicate vocals while the drop, underpinned by a knocking bass line, repaints the sampled vocalist a shade darker. For those still on the fence about the young producer, “Beauty Sleep” should unequivocally prove John Summit’s boundless potential.

Former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford says he turned down joining Guns N’ Roses twice

Former Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford has revealed that he was asked to join Guns N’ Roses on two different occasions.

Speaking in a new interview, Ford discussed being asked to join the band after Izzy Stradlin abruptly left in 1991, and again in the early 2000s when frontman Axl Rose was looking to retool the GnR lineup.

“I got asked to join that band a couple of different times,” Ford said on the Black Crowes-themed State Of Amorica podcast.

“Once when Axl was still finishing that record that was taking forever,” he continued, presumably referencing Guns N’ Roses’ 2008 album ‘Chinese Democracy’. “Right about when I was about to make [my 2002 solo album] ‘It’s About Time’, I got offered to join that band.”

Ford, who joined The Black Crowes in 1991 and played on three albums – ‘The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion’, ‘Amorica’ and ‘Three Snakes And One Charm’ – then talked about the first time he was offered the gig.

“The first time, I had just come back from a sort of ‘unofficial official’, or whatever it was, joining of The Black Crowes weekend in Atlanta,” he said. “When I got back home, that Monday morning, Slash had called and offered [me the open spot in Guns N’ Roses]. He said that Izzy was leaving, and did I want the spot?”

Ford told Slash he had just joined The Black Crowes. “[Slash] was very cool and he said, ‘That’s a good gig for you. Right on,’” he said.

Listen to Ford discuss being offered the Guns N’ Roses gig below:

Last month, Slash said he was optimistic that 2021 will see new releases from both Guns N’ Roses and his band with Myles Kennedy.

The guitarist said he’s recently been working with bassist Duff McKagan on material expected to form the first new Guns N’ Roses album since 2008’s notoriously delayed ‘Chinese Democracy’.

Meanwhile, Dave Grohl has revealed that Axl Rose bought him the “nicest fucking guitar” after the Guns N’ Roses singer borrowed the throne used by the Foo Fighters frontman when he broke his leg.

Grohl was forced to use a light-up throne for Foo Fighters’ shows in the second half of 2015 after breaking his leg when he fell off stage at a show in Gothenburg, Sweden.

While the intricate set-up was specifically designed for Grohl, it found a second lease of life in 2016 after Rose injured his foot at the opening ‘Not in This Lifetime’ show at Los Angeles’ The Troubadour.

Nirvana’s ‘Bleach’ is getting red cassette reissue for Valentine’s Day

Nirvana‘s debut album ‘Bleach’ is getting a limited edition, red cassette reissue for Valentine’s Day.

The Sub Pop Records release, which features the singles ‘Love Buzz’ and ‘Blew’, was released on June 15, 1989, and is the album that kicked everything off for the grunge giants whose next album was the game-changing classic ‘Nevermind’.

Limited to 500 copies, the ‘Love Buzz Red’ cassette version of ‘Bleach’ arrives February 14 and will be sold through Tapehead City – get it here.

A description of the tape on Tapehead City’s website reads: “‘Bleach’ was the debut album from Nirvana released on June 15, 1989, by Sub Pop records and Love Buzz was their first single. Kurt Cobain died 27 years ago at age 27.

“In homage of Kurt and this historic album we bring you Nirvana ‘Bleach’ Love Buzz red edition for Valentine’s Day (FEB 14 2021). Limited to 500 copies, exclusively available at Tapehead City!”

In a retrospective feature about ‘Bleach’ and its importance, NME said: “For all its rough edges and teething problems, there were still the first tell-tale signs that Nirvana could become something more significant than just another rock band: not a great album, but one which, in hindsight, makes it seem inevitable that future greatness beckoned.”

Earlier this month, Dave Grohl revealed that he still has dreams that see him back in his former band Nirvana.

The Foo Fighters frontman, who was the drummer in Nirvana until frontman Kurt Cobain‘s tragic death in 1994, only ever plays the group’s tracks live with former bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear.

Speaking in a recent interview, Grohl revealed that he still dreams about the band and he explained why he wouldn’t ever perform the tracks on his own.

Meanwhile, a photographer has shared previously unseen pictures of one of Nirvana‘s first ever UK gigs.

Steve Aoki & k?d Team Up For Hard Dance Bombshell, “BIB”

Steve Aoki is never at a loss for content, and as he continues on his 6OKI campaign, the latest drop is an absolute heater with k?d, “BIB.”

The last -OKI EP was number 5 back in 2018. Since then, he’s also dropped his newest studio album, Neon Future IV. But the grind never stops and this one is an absolute must-add to any hardcore raver’s repertoire.

Steve Aoki says, “My 6OKI – Rave Royale EP campaign continues with the second single; this one is with k?d and we are calling it ‘BIB.’ I’ve been a fan of k?d for a while, as I really think he is making some of the most exciting hard dance music in the world right now. ‘BIB’ pulsates with so much energy from the jump, that k?d and I were literally jumping up and down over FaceTime while making this track. We hope you all can feel that same energy too as we proceed with our Rave Royale!”

k?d adds, “Steve and I have been talking about collabing for a long time. We did a tour run together in Europe and wanted to make something that would go off live.”

“BIB” follows Aoki’s acclaimed Timmy Trumpet collaboration “Tarantino” (feat. STARX). Both singles are part of his upcoming six-track rave EP, 6OKI – Rave Royale, out January 22 via Dim Mak. Check out “BIB” below!

Must-stream: Fairlane impresses his signature on Imagine Dragons’ ‘Believer’

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end,” as Semisonic said, and years later, the lyric is proving applicable to Fairlane‘s cover of Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer.” Rewind a couple of years, to a point when the ascendant Canadian talent had not only a remix of the impassioned 2017 original in hand, but also a refusal from the client who’d commissioned the ghost-produced spin. “This record has always been one of those ‘happy mistakes’ for me. I still remember receiving the e-mail from the client telling me they’d rejected my ghost production,” Fairlane told Dancing Astronaut.

Though the remix was dubbed “too different” by the client, when Fairlane digitally disseminated it under his own name, the internet—evidently—did not agree. “No one could have predicted the original remix going as viral as it did, but looking back, I’m glad they passed on it,” Fairlane reflected. “Two years later, the [initial] upload has 160 million streams, and I finally get to release my version as a cover!” That is precisely what listeners can find on all major streaming platforms as of January 15.

The spry pop-electronic spin, which follows Fairlane’s December delivery, “nature,” reinvigorates Imagine Dragons’ Evolve inclusion to the tune of Fairlane’s own ingenuity. Find it below.
