Dr. Fauci says concerts can return fall 2021 ‘if everything goes right’ – Dancing Astronaut

The reopening timeline for the live events industry has been the subject of concern since the beginning of the pandemic, which toppled businesses, venues, and concerts sector-wide. Now, Dr. Anthony S. Fauci has given the public a predicted estimation for the scene’s return.

In a conference held by the Association of Performing Arts Professionals on January 9, Fauci addressed his belief that concert venues and theaters could reopen in fall of 2021 on the basis that 70 to 85 percent of the population receives vaccinations. Fauci disclosed,

“If everything goes right, this [will] occur some time in the fall of 2021…so that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience.”

Fauci further noted that ventilation quality and proper air filters may enable venues to get “back to almost full capacity of seating” with the exception of mask requirements for audiences. He also referenced a Germany study of an indoor concert that detailed “low to very low” risk of COVID-19 spread given ventilation, hygiene, and capacity standards.

Although vaccine distribution has fell behind schedule despite promises that every U.S. citizen would be able to receive one by June 2021, Fauci has assured performing artists and administrators that the venues will return, stating, “it will happen.”

Polyvinyl Records to pull Beach Slang’s music after emotional abuse allegations against frontman James Alex

Polyvinyl Records, the label that signed Philadelphia band Beach Slang in 2015, will pull distribution of the group’s music after allegations of emotional abuse were made against frontman James Alex.

Last week, the singer was accused of emotional abuse by former manager Charlie Lowe, who alleged she endured “constant emotional, psychological & narcissistic abuse from James Alex for years”.

“Fuck him for using me as his goddamn personal servant, on tour & not. For making sure I was always so financially fucked with no other options. For being a textbook narcissist abuser. For making me feel so worthless & alone. I see you clearly now,” Lowe wrote on Twitter.

Alex’s family responded to the allegations on Instagram yesterday, revealing that Alex attempted to take his own life and is currently receiving treatment at an inpatient facility.

“Yes he had moments of compulsiveness, emotional instability, and chaotic relationships, but none of his actions were intentional or meant to hurt or harm anyone, certainly not those who cared for or believed in him,” the family wrote.

“They were an unfortunate result of unimaginable childhood trauma, violent physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and years of untreated resultant severe mental health issues.”

The family’s statement also noted that Alex has no plans to return to music and that Beach Slang “is over”. Read it below.

In a statement provided to Billboard, Polyvinyl said it is in the process of halting the distribution of Beach Slang’s music, as well as the music of Alex’s side project, Quiet Slang.

Polyvinyl signed Beach Slang in 2015, and have released all of their studio albums with the exception of their most recent record. Beach Slang’s 2020 album ‘The Deadbeat Bang of Heartbreak City’ was released by Bridge Nine Records.

“Polyvinyl stands in solidarity with those who have come forward about their experiences with James Alex of Beach Slang,” the statement reads. “We have begun the process of discontinuing our involvement in the sale and distribution of Beach Slang and Quiet Slang releases.

“We have said it before and it bears repeating: Our company operates on the core principle that everyone deserves to be treated with fairness and respect. Active accountability builds safer and healthier communities.”

Following allegations of sexual assault against PWR BTTM member Ben Hopkins in 2017, Polyvinyl took similar action, ending its distribution arrangement with the band.

Zedd Teases Virtual Riot Collab As VR Drops Throwback “True Color” Remix Demo

Virtual Riot has been going down memory lane on Twitter for at least the past few days, dropping demos as old as 10 years. (We really recommend digging into these). One of the demos he shared was remix test of “True Colors” by Zedd, delving into the glitchy side of bass music blending the German/Russian producer’s wonderful pop melodies with some more artificial sounds.

It wasn’t too long before someone asked, “Why haven’t Zedd and Virtual Riot worked together?” To which Zedd coyly replied, “Oh but we have” with a smirking face emoji.

If that isn’t clear enough confirmation for you, I’m not sure what could be.

The collaboration could end up on Zedd’s forthcoming third album, which he says was delayed due to the pandemic in a recent Reddit AMA. Other collaborations he’s teased include Curbi (confirmed), Martin Garrix, Charlie Puth, and maybe Illenium (though he wasn’t a fan of it at the time, it could be reworked).

Stay tuned for more info and maybe a preview of the collab this year!

Virtual Riot shares unreleased remix of Zedd’s ‘True Colors,’ sparks collaboration speculation – Dancing Astronaut

A remix of the title track from Zedd‘s 2015 sophomore LP, True Colors, isn’t exactly one that electronic listeners would expect to be making the rounds in 2021, but Virtual Riot has used the element of surprise to his advantage, ensnaring the Twitterverse with the latest version of his spin on the song long in the making—five years, to be exact. Though Virtual Riot has spent a half-decade refurbishing his remix of the Ke$ha feature, if his January 10 Twitter signal is to be taken at face value, it’s possible that the “True Colors” work just might be over, and the revamp, ready for release.

Needless to say, Virtual Riot’s decision to disclose the iteration that listeners “need to hear” created quite the stir, sending Virtual Riot fans to Zedd’s own Twitter to ask why the pair had not yet collaborated. With an emoji smirk, Zedd all but broke the internet with his response: “Oh but we have?.”

Whether this meeting of the musical minds applies only to Virtual Riot’s “True Colors” remix or extends to another production in the vault is currently unclear, but Virtual Riot’s updated revamp now provides the soundtrack for further speculation. Stream below.

Silverstein announce special ‘Out Of This World’ virtual concert series

Silverstein have announced a special three-part virtual concert series titled ‘Out Of This World’.

Each performance will feature a unique theme – Greatest Hits, Discovering the Waterfront and Acoustic and Unplugged.

The series will take part over consecutive Saturdays commencing on February 6, airing at 10pm GMT. Tickets purchased for each set will also allow on-demand viewing after March 1.

Special VIP ticket bundles will also allow fans to attend a virtual meet-and-greet with the band. All digital tickets, including special merchandise bundles, can be purchased from the band’s website.

“‘Out Of This World’ will offer three different sets featuring our greatest hits, acoustic jams and ‘Discovering The Waterfront’ in its entirety,” Silverstein vocalist Shane Told said in a press statement.

“But of course, it will be more than just music, more than just bangers… We have enlisted some of the best people in the country to help us pull this off, so expect the finest in production quality, video and sound. Fans will get to hear a variety of tunes spanning our entire career and a few songs we haven’t played live in a long time… or ever.”

In September last year, the band shared an alternate version of their song ‘Infinite’, alongside an accompanying music video.

The new take featured voice recordings from fans reflecting on how they coped through the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with footage of hauntingly quiet locations observed from the band’s home country of Canada.

The original version of ‘Infinite’ was released in March last year on the band’s ninth studio album, ‘A Beautiful Place To Drown’.
