“This week I have been learning about #Britpop, the 90’s and about this awesome battle between 2 bands called Blur and Oasis,” Bushell explained in a tweet this morning (January 3), tagging both bands’ official accounts, as well as those of Blur members Damon Albarn, Alex James, Graham Coxon, and Dave Rowntree. “The 90[s] seemed like a fun time for music. Wahoo!!! Loving this song.”

The accompanying clip showcases Bushell’s drum, bass, guitar and vocal skills as she performs Blur’s 1997 hit ‘Song 2’ in a Union Jack outfit – watch the performance below.

The talented multi-instrumentalist had previously shared a song bidding farewell to a turbulent 2020, posted on New Year’s Eve, as well as a powerful performance of Slipknot’s ‘Unsainted’ on December 26.

She captioned her New Year’s Eve post, including a video of herself and her family members singing and playing the tune on guitars, by saying: “Happy New Year Everyone! I wrote this song for you all and asked my family to jam it with me.

“I hope it puts a smile on your face even if its a little cheesy! Thank you everyone for supporting me! Love and respect to everyone.”

Liam Gallagher, meanwhile, shared his own New Year message on social media – calling for a 2021 Oasis reunion with brother and former bandmate Noel.

Pluko delivers flip of Frank Ocean’s ‘Godspeed’ – Dancing Astronaut

Pennsylvanian prodigy, pluko, has stepped up to the plate with another otherworldly output. This time, the young phenom takes on Frank Ocean with his new flip of “Godspeed.” The original track has made an astonishing resurgence in 2020, first with James Blake‘s highly requested cover and now, with pluko’s upbeat reincarnation.

The flip begins with Ocean’s heart-stopping “I will always love you” vocals slowly picking up with a soft baseline. As the groove takes flight, pluko’s classic future bass synths protrude. Finally, adding an array of rhythmic vocal chops to the beat, the flip instills the beguiling nature of the original with pluko’s classic bass and synth-driven expression.

Brandi Carlile’s Soundgarden collaboration is now on streaming services

Brandi Carlile has shared her Soundgarden collaboration ‘A Rooster Says’ on streaming services.

The two-track 12″ vinyl was originally shared for the second edition of 2020’s Record Store Day series.

The single features versions of Soundgarden tracks ‘Black Hole Sun’ and ‘Searching With My Good Eye Closed’, recorded with the band’s surviving members.

Until now, they’ve only been available in physical form, but to welcome 2021, the two tracks are now available to hear online – listen to both below.

In an interview with Rolling Stone about the Record Store Day collaboration, Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil and drummer Matt Cameron shared their admiration for Carlile’s cover of Searching With My Good Eye Closed, “one of Chris [Cornell’s] greatest songs.”

“That was Brandi’s choice and it was a good one,” Cameron said. “‘Searching With My Good Eye Closed’ is one of Chris’ greatest songs, it has so much depth. It’s a colossus.

“Hearing Brandi and the twins completely rock the fuck out on that tune was amazing. I love how it turned out. Kim’s solo is pretty incredible too.”

Thayil added: “I assume that Brandi chose to record ‘Searching With My Good Eye Closed’ because it’s a beautiful song that is accommodating of her vocal style. I’m really happy that she chose this song, because her interpretation is absolutely amazing. It’s beautifully emotive, floating and trippy. Her version sent shivers down my spine.”

Last year, the surviving members of Soundgarden said they would play together again “without hesitation”.

The surviving members of the band last played live together at the ‘I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell’ concert in January 2019 in honour of their late frontman Chris Cornell.

Snoop Dogg reacts to latest call-out in Eminem dispute

Snoop Dogg has responded to online comments regarding his recent low-key beef with Eminem.

The dispute started back in July 2020, when Snoop explained why Eminem didn’t make his top 10 greatest rappers of all time – and cited a number of hip hop stars who he rates higher than the Detroit artist.

Despite maintaining that Eminem was still “one of my teammates, one of my brothers,” Snoop concluded with a bombshell: “But when you’re talking about this hip-hop shit that I can’t live without, I can live without that.”

Em then responded on ‘Zeus,’ from the deluxe edition of his ‘Music to Be Murdered By’ album: “As far as squashing beef I’m used to people knocking me / But just not in my camp / And diplomatic as I’m tryin’ to be / Last thing I need is Snoop doggin’ me / Man, Dogg, you was like a damn god to me / Meh, not really (haha) / I had dog backwards.”

In an interview via Eminem’s own station Shade 45 on December 31, he later clarified it was “more about the tone he was using” that caught the rapper “off guard”.

“I just saw you [Snoop]. What the fuck? It threw me for a loop. Again, I probably could’ve gotten past the whole tone and everything, but it was the last statement where he said, ‘Far as music I can live without, I can live without that shit.’ Now you’re being disrespectful. It just caught me off guard. I wasn’t ready for that.”

On Friday night (January 1), Snoop responded to an Eminem fan Instagram account that then asked: “Was Snoop Dogg being disrespectful when he said he could live without Eminem’s music?”

Snoop swiftly responded in the comments with “Pray I don’t answer that soft ass Shit,” followed by three laugh-cry emojis.

Em recently admitted that he doesn’t feel he’s as influential as some of rap’s legendary figures.

Speaking in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music‘s ‘At Home With’ series, Slim Shady discussed top rapper lists and shared his opinion of his standing among some of rap’s greatest MCs.

“I know I’ve been around for a minute, but I don’t feel like honestly, in my heart of hearts, I don’t feel like anything I did, anything I’ve done up to this point is more influential than they were to their era,” he said. “To me, I will never mean more than they meant to their era.”

Bad Bunny features wrestler Booker T in music video for ‘Booker T’

Bad Bunny has recruited wrestler Booker T – subject of his song ‘Booker T’ – for a new music video, released yesterday (January 2).

Taken from Bad Bunny’s third studio album, ‘El Último Tour Del Mundo’, ‘Booker T’ featured on the 16-track November 2020 release.

In the track, Bad Bunny declares he’s at the top of his game, not unlike WWE wrestling legend Booker T, real name Robert Booker Tio Huffman.

The video doesn’t just run with a reference to the pro wrestler. Instead, we see Bad Bunny – aka Benito Ocasio – rapping around Booker T himself before the stocky wrestler gives in to the rhythm and partakes in a bit of dancing.

Watch the video for ‘Booker T’ below:

Other famous guests have made appearances in a handful of videos for ‘El Último Tour Del Mundo’ tracks.

For the star-studded ‘Yo Visto Asi’, Bad Bunny welcomed Ricky Martin, Sofia Vergara, Karol G and more to the official video for the track.

In the video for the Puerto Rican rapper’s third track ‘Hoy Cobré’, none other than Snoop Dogg made a cameo as a store manager who comes to Bad Bunny’s aid.

Last month it was announced that Bad Bunny will feature in a forthcoming action film, Bullet Train, alongside Brad Pitt.

The film, set to be directed by David Leith (Hobbs & Shaw), will also star Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Joey King, and will follow Bad Bunny’s acting debut, American Sole, which is still in pre-production.

Weekend Rewind: Relive New Year’s Eve 2014 Flume’s unforgettable SnowGlobe ball drop – Dancing Astronaut

With 2020 now firmly in the rearview mirror, music devotees can’t help but imagine what life would be like this past New Year’s Eve without the pandemic looming overhead. In that spirit, we’re revisiting one of the most magical ball drops in festival history—Flume at SnowGlobe 2014.

As the video commences, the audience is introduced with the creeping string instrumental lead-up to Flume’s seminal remix of Disclosure‘s “You & Me.” The second the crowd hears the first note, the energy snowballs into a resplendent mass of beaming smiles and pure euphoria. As the crowd counts down into 2015 and fireworks proudly pop, it’s impossible not to emit the full-body chills that come with most live Flume experiences, especially on such an occasion.

There was something special about New Year’s Eve festivals. There aren’t many things better than ringing in the new year with friends in a musical setting, squeezing out one last serving of with funky basslines and wallowing breaks that send crowds to their knees before the year closes out. Unfortunately, for many across the world, like nearly every other holiday this year, New Year’s Eve came and went on a much smaller scale than usual.

Sitting at home on New Year’s Eve may be deemed as lackluster, but this year it is all the more important to be able to look back on moments shared together, with so many others like this one, with a sense of gratitude and a blind faith that the dance music community may reunite come New Year’s 2021. Watch Flume’s 2014 ball drop below.
