In a year plagued by global shutdowns and the virtual disappearance of festivals and club gigs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the STMPD RCRDS imprint has been anything but slow. Martin Garrix‘s record label has seen a stellar year and is looking to cap it off in spectacular fashion with a brand new mixtape.
The STMPD RCRDS Mixtape 2020 features two sides with music from over 50 STMPD musicians. Side A takes on a more festival and dance-centric approach, with tracks from artists such as Julian Jordan, Dyro, Cesqeaux, and many others serving up some the label’s finest bangers from this year.
Side B delivers deeper house-focused offerings, with top label picks from the likes of Sidney Samson, Bart B More, Moksi, and a slew of others. The flip side is undoubtedly geared more toward the club sound, serving as a more “afterhours”-oriented showcase for STMPD’s 2020 releases.
Together, both sides of the STMPD RCRDS Mixtape 2020 constitute a fine exhibition of the label’s impressive 2020 catalogue, moving through a wide and enticing array of some of the year’s freshest sounds. STMPD steps into 2021 adapting to the monumental changes in society, as Garrix gears up for his Tomorrowland NYE livestream DJ set.

Andrew Watt has spoken about his relationship with Ozzy Osbourne, saying that the metal icon is “like a family member now”.
Speaking in a new interview, the Grammy award-winning LA songwriter/producer discussed his working relationship with the Prince of Darkness since collaborating with him on his recent album ‘Ordinary Man’.
“With Ozzy, I’m such a fan of his. I’ve seen every interview and listened to every album of his… there’s nothing about him that I don’t know,” Watt told Guitar.com. “I approached his music completely different as a fan of his and asked what would his fans enjoy doing? There’s no one way.
“It was a true dream. When you look back on a career in music and being blessed enough to be a musician, it’s those kinds of moments that will really stick. I’ve spent so much time with someone I idolise. Ozzy’s like a family member now.”
He continued: “We talk every single day and we’re working on a second record. His whole family is the most giving family. Ozzy was very sick when we started the first album recovering from his neck surgery and this album gave him another lease on life.
“It was the first time I’d ever been involved in something musical that was about something greater than the music. It saved this guy’s life. I reached my childhood dream of being able to make rock ‘n’ roll with the exact person I wanted to make it with.”
Meanwhile, Osbourne‘s next studio album is set to feature an all-star cast of backing musicians, including members of Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica.
Andrew Watt has said the group are “about halfway through” recording the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Ordinary Man’.
The new band, Watt explained in a new interview, features Ozzy on vocals, himself on guitar, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo on bass, and Taylor Hawkins and Chad Smith sharing drumming duties.
Queen’s Gambit was without a doubt one of the biggest, if not the biggest, new shows in 2020. Never before has chess been so engrossing or enthralling to a wide audience, but it was due in large part to star Anya Taylor-Joy’s magnificent performance.
EDM fans, though, might have found the star strangely familiar. In a total blast from the past, the answer is here: Taylor-Joy starred in the video for Skrillex’s “Red Lips” remix by GTA.
The music video first dropped Mar 5, 2016, before her big break as the main protagonist in M. Night Shyamalan’s Split later that year. Now, she’s in one of the biggest television phenomena of the year.

Dynamic dance music sister duo NERVO has announced they are heading back out on tour.
The fun begins today, December 30th, at Elements Festival in Bangkok, where the sisters will be performing alongside Bassjackers, Danny Avila, DubVision, and more. Next up, they are set to close out 2020 in style at Illuzion in Phuket on December 31st before their final stop on January 9th at Bone in Pattaya.
Of course, the duo is aware that most of the world is currently still under lockdown, making their sets that much more special for those who get to experience them. “Understanding that most of the world is still going through lockdowns makes us all the more grateful for this opportunity to play again,” they wrote in a tweet.
Slowly but surely we are seeing more artists return to the stage in regions that have been able to successfully navigate the impact of COVID-19. Thailand is one of these countries, having recently revived the country’s live music scene due to its low infection numbers.
Though 2020 has been an overwhelmingly negative year for all in the music community, the NERVO twins managed to stay positive by releasing a bevy of amazing tracks, including “Dare Me” with Plastik Funk and Tim Morrison, “My World” with Vini Vici and Shapov, and “Hurt” with Frida Sundemo. They also recently threw down an epic set for bpm EMPOWERED Virtual Festival, SiriusXM‘s all-female event.
Back in October 2020, we chatted with NERVO for Breast Cancer Awareness Month about their experiences with breast cancer and the acute effects it has on those who bravely persevere the struggles. You can read that interview here.
In 2020, TikTok became the latest go-to destination for music discovery, taking on an instrumental role in sparking viral hits for artists of all genres. The social media platform released its “Year In Music” report earlier in December, announcing that, in the past year alone, over 70 artists that gained popular followings on TikTok have signed major record label deals. Some of those artists include Claire Rosinkranz, Dixie D’Amelio, Powfu, Priscilla Block and Tai Verdes. TikTok’s Global Head of Music Ole Obermann said in a company statement,
“We at TikTok share our community’s passion for music and we’re dedicated to providing a platform where artists and fans can interact and thrive, it has been inspiring to watch our community bring new talent to the forefront, help send songs up the charts, and use music to create an oasis of joy during a trying time.”
The report also detailed record breaking numbers, with over 176 different songs surpassing 1 billion video views as TikTok sounds. Earlier this month, “The Playlist” was revealed as part of the “Year On TikTok: Top 100” reel, highlighting the most significant songs on TikTok in 2020. Together, those songs have racked up over 50 billion video views on over 125 million creations, and five of them have reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Nearly 90 songs that trended on the platform climbed onto the Top 100 charts in the U.S., with 15 of those reaching #1 on a Billboard chart. Read the full report here.

What is going on dance music fans! We hope you are winding down your months in good spirits and health throughout this tumultuous year. On our side, we’ve been grinding away day after day in bringing you the best in up and coming music for your quarantine pleasure.
As a continuation of our Artist of the Week Series, we are so happy to welcome our newest member, Rainbolt.
Rainbolt is a 20 year old producer hailing from San Diego, California and has a brand new track to his discology he’d love to share with everyone.
Rainbolt looks to end 2020 with a bang by releasing his debut single, “GOAT Talk”, co-produced with PrettyBoy Jaeger, dropping in right before the New Year. This year Rainbolt shared the stage at AbroadFest in Barcelona, Spain with major artists such as: Zeds Dead, Gryffin, and REZZ. Additionally, he went on a European tour this year and performed in the beautiful cities of Florence and Prague. In these cities Rainbolt was able to play shows alongside MALAA, Dom Dolla, and Hippie Sabotage.
“My time abroad was an amazing experience. I wouldn’t change it for anything. It was awesome to constantly be around backstage with those artists and just kick it and have conversations that I’ll remember for a long time. My family, DLG International, did an awesome job of setting up AbroadFest and it was great to perform alongside such dope artists.”
Due to COVID Rainbolt and PrettyBoy Jaeger were forced to finish their debut track remotely but are ready to finally put it out before the year is over. Their single called, “GOAT Talk” is a heavy hitting trap song ready to put you in an ignorant mood at any moment. In the last year Rainbolt has been trying to prove himself through the typical SoundCloud remixes, but finally wanted to take it up a notch and finally deliver some original music.
“I wanted my first single to be a heavy trap song. I really wanted to come out swinging and set the tone for my music.”
Rainbolt and PrettyBoy Jaeger are both originally from Las Vegas, Nevada and grew up there together. Rainbolt says their hometown draws out a lot of the ignorance found in the track.
“Vegas is an extremely fun place to be and the people there really know how to get down. There’s a ton of trap and hip-hop influence in that city and I think that’s where we were able to pull the energy from for this track.”
Rainbolt feels that his Vegas ties are rooted deep in him and will continue to play a big part in his style of music. However, after living in San Diego for the past four years he has seen his music catalog grow a ton and is excited to experiment in other genres besides trap, such as house and future bass.
“I think San Diego has really had a big influence on me and it’s made me want to not create a bubble for my music going forward.”
Goat Talk can be streamed on all platforms starting December 31st, 2020.

COVID TAKES ITS TOLL ON ARTISTS
“Although COVID is a huge bummer for live shows, it’s been awesome to hear all the new music artist have been putting out. I’m even more stoked to hear all the music artist have been saving up for their first full live show back.”
As we know, COVID did offer an opportunity for artists to focus on themselves for a while, but the toll it takes is always understated. We got to ask Rainbolt a bit about his experience.
“COVID coping was tough for me. I had the back end of my European Tour cut early. A lot of hard work goes into planning tours and to see it all stripped away was a huge bummer. On top of that I was definitely optimistic for shows to pick up later in the year but also had to cancel multiple shows that I had planned out. In the end, it’s been a great time to open the DAW, put the headphones on, and just explore. Without the stress of shows it gives us artist more time to focus on their craft.”
2021 Plans
“For 2021 I plan to put out a couple different singles in different genres ranging from house, trap, and future bass. I definitely want to expand my music into multiple genres and have something for every mood. A lot of artists definitely try to master their sound by getting solid at one genre. However, I always catch myself in such different moods and don’t want to limit myself. Additionally, I’m finally graduated from school heading into 2021 and I’m excited to fully focus on music and get to grinding for the next couple of months. I have a couple songs in the vault that I want to get down and hopefully put out before shows start picking back up again. I’m staying optimistic for live shows in 2021 and hopefully can play these songs out when the time comes.”
50 Cent has shared a new track called ‘Part Of The Game’ featuring NLE Choppa and Rileyy Lanez – listen below.
The track, which serves as the theme song for 50’s upcoming new Power spin-off show, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, was first previewed on Instagram last month. Now, the G-Unit rapper has added it to all streaming platforms.
“I know heartbreaks, setbacks/ Bitch, if I crap out, I’m sure I’ma get back/ I been through the ups and downs, you know I get around/ So to me, it’s all a part of the game,” 50 raps on the track’s chorus.
“If I ain’t the coke man, or the dope man/ I’m almost for sure man, I gotta take it/ Don’t need to say shit, I’m gon’ take it/ Robberies turned homicide, it’s nothin’ to play with.”
Power Book III: Raising Kanan, which follows the current Starz show Power Book II: Ghost, is set to arrive on screens in the summer of 2021.
Creator Courtney Kemp’s third foray into the Power universe will star Mekai Curtis as Kanan Stark, previously portrayed by 50, the show’s executive producer. The forthcoming series will look back on Kanan’s rise to infamy on the streets of Jamaica, Queens, New York, loosely inspired by 50’s early life.
Curtis will be joined by a cast which includes Omar Epps (Juice, Shooter, House), London Brown (Ballers), and Joey Bada$$ (Mr. Robot).
Meanwhile, 50 Cent is working on a new series for cable network Starz that will look at his highly publicised past beef with fellow rapper The Game.
With a working title of Moment in Time: The Massacre, the seasonal anthology “will explore the true stories in which iconic hip-hop moments collided with the sensational and sometimes criminal events behind-the-scenes.”
Season 1 will look at how “tension between 50 Cent and The Game led to an all-out street war, pitting G-Unit against music impresario Jimmy Henchman, resulting in a murder-for-hire plot and Henchman serving a life sentence in prison.”
MikeWiand traded his career as a covert spy to become one of the most visible entrepreneurs in the UK nightlife space.
Wiand was working for the US government in the middle of the Cold War when his assignment to North Yorkshire left him falling in love with the beautiful, natural landscape. However, upon his retirement, it was more than the picturesque scene that kept the former spy living in the area. He began to plant roots and met his first wife at The In Time club in Leeds. Together the two started a club of their own called The Warehouse.
Wiandlikelydidn’t realize it at the time, but the club, born out of an abandoned warehouse, would go on to become one of the most iconic venues in Leeds. It went on to host early influential DJs such as Greg James and Danny Pucciarelli, as well as rock legends the Ramones and The Stone Roses, among others.
In 2014, Wiand passed away due to pancreatic cancer, but his memory lives on with The Warehouse, which has demonstrated tremendous staying power throughout the decades. Though the location is closed for the time being due to the pandemic, the venue expects to embrace crowds again in 2021.
“Dad had so much passion, heart and creativity, plus he was generous to a fault and the sort of extravagant 1970s-type showman you just don’t get any more,” said Mike Wiand’s son, Dean. “He really knew the music industry and sound systems, too, which is one reason people flocked to The Warehouse.”
