Insomniac announces deadmau5, Testpilot livestreams – Dancing Astronaut

Throughout 2020, deadmau5 has been a fixture of the drive-in and livestream spaces, and that’s not about to change when the clock strikes midnight on December 31. After tapping deadmau5 for a five-date run of Southern California Park ‘N Rave shows in late November that will take the mau5trap head to the NOS Events Center from December 31 – January 2 and to the North Island Credit Union Ampitheatre Lot from January 7 –8, Insomniac has announced that two of deadmau5’s sought-after stints will be broadcast live via Insomniac TV.

Kendrick Lamar to headline Roskilde Festival 2021

Kendrick Lamar has been announced as a new headliner for Roskilde Festival 2021.

The Danish event, which will run from June 26-July 3 next year, has already confirmed the likes of Tyler, the Creator and Thom Yorke‘s Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, The Strokes, FKA Twigs, Girl In Red, Kelly Lee Owens and more.

The announcement of a new headliner is giving fans hope that the festival – and 2021’s festival season as a whole – could potentially still go ahead despite ongoing coronavirus fears.

“We are on the threshold of a new year, and we think there is a need and reason to be hopeful,” Roskilde’s head of programming Anders Wahrén said in a statement. “That’s why we’re revealing another act for next year’s festival.”

After cancelling their 2020 edition due to the coronavirus outbreak, the organisers of Roskilde revealed in June that they are pressing forward with plans to host the festival in 2021.

In the absence of this year’s Roskilde, festival organisers asked fans to create their own festival at home on July 4 for charity.

Earlier this month, Primavera Sound festival hailed a successful trial event, investigating the possibility of holding live music events without social distancing.

The event, dubbed PRIMACOV, was organised by Primavera Sound alongside the Hospital Germans Trias in Barcelona and the Fight AIDS and Infectious Diseases Foundations.

At the event on December 12, 1,042 fans attended a concert with local DJs at the 1,608 capacity Sala Apolo venue in Barcelona.

Rapid testing was employed before entry was granted, with every attendee needing to return a negative test, which was available within 15 minutes.

Elton John appears on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new podcast

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have launched a new podcast with Spotify, and guests on the first episode include Elton John.

Archewell Audio launched on the streaming service this week, and the first episode sees the couple reflecting on the events of 2020 alongside “a few friends and a lot of other folks” that the pair “admire,” aiming to “get their thoughts on what they learned from 2020”.

On the episode, John is joined by TV presenter and Gavin and Stacey co-creator James Corden, Reasons To Stay Alive author Matt Haig, tennis player Naomi Osaka and more.

In his segment, Elton John called 2020 “the worst year I’ve ever known”, while hoping that the pandemic means “that we have become better people” and shared a “hope for healing” in the following years.

Listen to the first episode of Archewell Audio below.

Elsewhere in the episode, Meghan spoke of how all the experiences they’d gathered across the pandemic had “all come back to one thing – to the power of connection,” adding: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that.”

Harry added that the message he wants to leave 2020 with is “about how important it is to take care of one another and how meaningful our connections are, even when they’re physically impossible”.

Meanwhile, John recently revealed it might be a while before fans get to hear another album from him. The music icon says another record isn’t needed “at the moment” and he’s currently enjoying fatherhood after coronavirus derailed plans for his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’.

“I have no idea what the fuck I’m going to do next, and that feels great,” he told Record Collector in a recent interview. I just don’t think this is a time for me to think about recording. I’m a dad and I love being a dad. I will get in the mood to record again – and I’ll get in the mood to write.

“But no one needs another Elton John record out at the moment.”

Good Morning Mix: Rewatch Martin Garrix’s hour of house perfection at Tomorrowland 2017 – Dancing Astronaut

At the end of each July, Martin Garrix heads out of Boom, Belgium with at at least one of the most talked-about performances from either weekend in his pocket, and his 2017 set stands not only amongst his finest at Tomorrowland, but also alongside his greatest of all-time. Before the STMPD RCRDS captain hits the virtual decks to wrap up his 2020 campaign at Tomorrowland’s New Year’s Eve event, where he’ll draw back the curtains on nine IDs, we’re pretending to be in Belgium for the next 57 minutes to relive Garrix’s preeminent mainstage appearance from three years ago.

The 22-piece tracklist stands unequaled from top to bottom. In between an entrance of his most notable releases integrated to the emotive unveiling of “Pizza,” Martin Garrix held nothing back on the second to last day of July in 2017. Garrix dove head-first through polished blends including “Turn Up the Speakers” versus “Waiting For Tomorrow,” was joined by David Guetta to premiere the early version of “So Far Away” with Ellie Goulding, and unloaded a flurry of still-unreleased music like his Ryan Tedder collaboration, “Back In Time,” and the VIP version of “Byte.”

In the time leading up to Tomorrowland’s virtual NYE event, Dancing Astronaut will revisit Tomorrowland sets from artists slated to perform at the dance-focused finale to 2020. Follow the journey with our Tomorrowland NYE Good Morning Mix series, and learn why Tomorrowland’s Around The World festival was named our top digital event of 2020 here.

Chvrches frontwoman Lauren Mayberry says the band “learnt something” from Billie Eilish’s debut album

Chvrches frontwoman Lauren Mayberry has praised Billie Eilish and admitted that you can “learn something” from her 2019 debut album.

Mayberry also said that Eilish’s LP ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’ is an “advancement in pop music”.

She told The Guardian: “The vocal production on the Billie Eilish album is absolutely phenomenal – that is an advancement in pop music.

“Iain [Cook] and Martin [Doherty] like to be across what is happening for production stuff.” She continued. “We want to be aware of it because there’s just awesome pop music and you can learn something from it. Learn the production tricks but don’t learn the other parts: I think that was the challenge of this [our forthcoming] album.

Mayberry added: “We did two albums that existed in a certain space, and by the third record it felt like what we were doing had been popularised by other people. How do you run that race next to other people? Well, we’ve realised that we don’t have to run that race. You’re never going to win in a race that is saturated by people who are bigger, better and more popular, so you might as well pivot and go somewhere else.”

She also said that the band’s forthcoming album had “definitely got the Chvrches DNA” but that the songs on it couldn’t “slot into any of the first three records”.

The band’s fourth LP is due to drop in Spring 2021, following 2018’s ‘Love Is Dead’ and their 2019 collaborative single with Marshmello, ‘Here With Me’.
