Slash and Alice Cooper are camp counsellors in new documentary ‘Rock Camp’

Slash, Alice Cooper and some of the biggest names in rock from the 1970s and ’80s all appear in the trailer for forthcoming documentary film Rock Camp.

The film documents Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, the American camp that for more than two decades has given people the chance to jam with and learn from rock stars, like Slash and Cooper, both of whom have taken on roles as counsellors over the years.

Started by producer David Fishof in 1996, Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp sees the rockers teach and inspire campers over the course of four days, concluding with attendees and counsellors performing alongside one another in a huge concert.

In the trailer for Rock Camp, Cooper can be seen giving an interview in which he reflects on the people and the nature of the camp, saying, “You would have a 15-year-old kid playing drums, and a dentist on guitar.

“If this band were a real band it would be the weirdest band ever, but cool!”

Watch the trailer for Rock Camp below:

The film – directed and produced by Douglas Blush (Stardom, Twenty Feet) – chronicles the experiences of four campers as they learn to perform from some of rock’n’roll’s greatest artists.

As well as Slash and Cooper, Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler, Dave Navarro, KISS‘ Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach, Heart’s Nancy Wilson, Jeff Beck and members of Judas Priest, can all be seen in the trailer, each having undertaken a role as a camp counsellor over the organisation’s 25-year history.

The film will receive a virtual cinema release on January 15, 2021, before being made available on demand on February 16, 2021.

Tomorrowland offers a glimpse into the technology behind its digital New Year’s Eve festival

There are plenty of live streams going down this New Year’s Eve — but all eyes and ears are on Tomorrowland!

The iconic festival has created an unprecedented experience featuring performances by 28 of the best dance music artists across four stages in 27 time zones. With just two days remaining until the most anticipated NYE in recent memory, Tomorrowland is offering a glimpse into the technology behind its digital festival.

Bringing the digital venue known as NAOZ to life requires a massive team, which is why Tomorrow has enlisted in 200+ professionals in 3D design, video production, gaming and special effects. Live performances, fireworks, laser shows, and a realistic festival crowd of 950,000 virtual visitors, each with their own attributes, await — including 65,000 virtual flags of over 193 different countries.

NYE 2020 Live Stream Guide: Tomorrowland, ABRACADABRA, Beatport & More

To make the magic happen, Tomorrowland built two large green-screen studios to record all the artist performances, one in Belgium and one in Los Angeles. The studios had to be modified to create an environment that allowed enough room for the festival’s creative team to operate in – with all cycloramas (infinity-walls) being 6 meters or higher, at least 8 meters wide and at least 8 meters in depth. On top of the 17 4K ultra-HD cameras, 152 virtual cameras were created, resulting in a total of 160 hours of footage.

Go behind-the-scenes with Tomorrowland here to get a better understanding of the process.

Tomorrowland NYE tickets are still available here.

Industry figures warn European tours may be in jeopardy following new Brexit trade deal – Dancing Astronaut

After the announcement of a new Brexit deal, musicians across the world could face financial issues when trying to tour the European Union once live events resume. Following the omission of musicians from the list of workers allowed to enter the EU without a visa, music industry insiders warn that the cost of touring could far outweigh any potential profits.

Founder of Step Music Management, Ellie Giles, recently tweeted a simple breakdown detailing the financial toll musicians would face in traveling overseas for live shows:

Giles walks readers through exact costs, which ultimately round out to a total of approximately £500 after withholding. This £500 gain comes at a price of about -£3976 out of this hypothetical band’s pocket.

Beginning in January, anyone from the EU that is hoping to tour inside of the UK’s borders must apply for a visa, show proof of savings and a certificate of sponsorship from the event. This new establishment will impose the same burden of paperwork that is required of artists from outside the EU onto the UK’s neighboring artists.

To try and combat this setback, the Incorporated Society of Musicians bargained for a two-year, multi-entry visa as a part of the new ruling, only to have it shot down by the Home Office. While many wait for the world to kick back into gear as more vaccines are shelled out across the globe, it is evident that live-music and touring across the pond is headed for an abrupt shift, whatever that may mean.

Justin Bieber to close out the year with New Year’s Eve livestream gig

Justin Bieber has announced that he will close out 2020 with a New Year’s Eve livestream gig.

The “arena sized” event will see the ‘Yummy’ singer accompanied by a five-piece band and a crew of dancers. It will take place in an “iconic location” with a state-of-the-art light show and a newly-designed stage.

The event will initially air at 3:15am GMT (10:15pm EST) on Thursday (December 31), with two additional re-airings on Friday (January 1) at 10:00am GMT (5:00am EST) and 8:00pm GMT (3:00pm EST).

Looking forward to the event, Bieber tweeted: “Feeling so blessed for this opportunity to perform this New Years. Excited to celebrate with you all.”

T-Mobile customers can get free access to the livestream concert through the T-Mobile Tuesdays app or by heading to  www.JustinBieberNYE.com. Fans who are not T-Mobile customers can purchase access for $25 via www.JustinBieberNYE.com.

In the run-up to the event, Bieber has been sharing rehearsal videos on his Instagram page – see them below.

Earlier this month, Justin Bieber partnered with the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir for a new charity version of his single ‘Holy’.

The collaboration comes five years after Bieber tweeted his support for the Choir’s successful bid to become the UK’s Christmas Number One with ‘A Bridge Over You’instead of his own track ‘Love Yourself’.

Meanwhile, Bieber took to Instagram last month to share his feelings about his latest album ‘Changes’ being classified as pop in the 2021 Grammy nominations.

Bieber has picked up four nominations this year for Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Changes’, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop/Duo Group Performance, and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, but was unhappy with the pop classification of his latest offering.

In a statement posted to Instagram today (November 25), Bieber said “I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album.”

Flava D Hints at Skrillex Collab During Q&A Session

Skrillex has another collab in the works, this time with Flava D.

During a recent Q&A on Flava D’s official Instagram account, the UK garage / grime / bassline producer spilled the beans on their forthcoming collaboration. It didn’t take long for the internet to take notice and the screenshot to circulate.

“Collab with skrillex that would be insane,” one user said.

Flava D followed up the prompt with, “Funny you say that….” and made sure to tag Skrillex but make it as small as possible.

The producer has kept busy in 2020 with a steady flow of new music, including “Secure the Bag” for the Crucast Vs Night Bass compilation, “Now or Never,” “Mesmerise,” and more.

Meanwhile, Skrillex has been working in studio with DJ Scheme, Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs, The Beach Boys, Mike Einziger of Incubus and more — with rumors of an Avril Lavigne collab.

We’ll definitely keep an ear out for this one. See below.

Dancing Astronaut presents the Top 100 Electronic Tracks of 2020 – Dancing Astronaut

Despite a year brimming with letdowns and shortcomings, 2020 enabled artists with the opportunity to stretch their creative legs throughout the time spent at home during quarantine, and the results delivered tenfold. 2020 supplied more forward-looking music than years recent memory, with artists leveraging the absence of overwhelming tour regimens into high-grade outputs that made 2020 just a bit more bearable.

Spanning from Lane 8 and Calvin Harris, who had already cemented their lofty sonic standing early into 2020, to ODESZA and Golden Features, who had a wrench tossed into their BRONSON rollout plan, to the Swedish trifecta of BROHUG, who put up a towering count of 30 releases in 2020, there was no deficiency of artistic ingenuity from January all the way to December. To reflect on the releases from this year that still remain in our day-to-day rotation, we compiled an eclectic playlist of Dancing Astronaut’s 100 favorite tracks of 2020. Enjoy.
