Legacy’ soundtrack is now streaming for the first time

Daft Punk have released a new deluxe edition of their TRON: Legacy soundtrack on streaming platforms, featuring songs that have never previously been available on services.

The dance duo created the soundtrack to the movie, which was released in 2010.

While all of the tracks on the new edition have been available in some form, nine of them were only released on vinyl or as exclusives on various digital stores.

‘TRON: Legacy – The Complete Edition’ was released on December 18 – 10 years and one day after the film’s original release. The final nine tracks on the collection are new to streaming services. The tracklist is as follows:

‘Overture’
‘The Grid’
‘The Son Of Flynn’
‘Recognizer’
‘Armory’
‘Arena’
‘Rinzler’
‘The Game Has Changed’
‘Outlands’
‘Adagio For TRON’
‘Nocturne’
‘End Of Line’
‘Derezzed’
‘Fall’
‘Solar Sailer’
‘Rectifier’
‘Disc Wars’
‘C.L.U.’
‘Arrival’
‘Flynn Lives’
‘TRON Legacy (End Titles)’
‘Finale’
‘Sea Of Simulation’
‘Encom Part II’
‘Encom Part I’
‘Round One’
‘Castor’
‘Reflections’
‘Sunrise Prelude’
‘Father And Son’
‘Outlands, Part II’

In August, it was confirmed that TRON 3 was in the works and that Daft Punk were being sought after to write the soundtrack again. Walt Disney Studios’ President Of Music & Soundtracks, Mitchell Leib said he had had meetings with their manager and that it was “the right and first thing to do” to see if they would sign on to the project.

Earlier this month (December 3), Julian Casablancas said he had been “trying to do something” with the French outfit again. The Strokes frontman teamed up with the pair in 2013 for the single ‘Instant Crush’.

“The last I heard, one of them was focused on video stuff and the other one was kind of obsessing with ancient aliens or something,” he said, explaining that the group are “not doing music right now”.

Watch The Cure’s Robert Smith play ‘Faith’ songs for charity livestream

Robert Smith has taken part in a 24-hour charity livestream, recording new versions of three songs from The Cure’s 1981 album ‘Faith’.

The online event raised many for Poverty Alleviation Charities’ Letters To Santa initiative, which fulfils the wishlists of families in need with food, clothes, computers and $10,000 (£7,414).

During the livestream, which was broadcast yesterday (December 22), Smith performed new versions of ‘The Holy Hour’, ‘The Funeral Party’ and ‘The Drowning Man’.

“Hello, this is Robert from The Cure,” he introduced his segment. “Very happy to be part of the Letters To Santa marathon and I’m going to play you three songs from our ‘Faith’ album, which is about to be 40 years old. I hope you enjoy this.” Watch Smith’s performance below now.

Among the other stars to take part in the 24-hour livestream were Mary Timony, Kim Gordon, Sleaford Mods, Bill Callahan, Jeff Tweedy and Bonnie “Prince” Billy.

At the time of writing, the stream has raised $20,733 (£15,372). You can donate to the cause here.

The Letters To Santa livestream is the second charity event Smith has taken part in so far this month. Previously, he appeared on the Nine Lessons And Carols For Curious People 24-hour charity livestream, playing three songs from The Cure’s ‘Seventeen Seconds’ album.

In September, the band’s frontman said he had spent much of 2020 “finishing off” a new album from the group as well as a solo record.

Smith made the comments during an appearance on BBC 6 Music to talk about ‘Strange Timez’, his collaboration with Gorillaz. That track was sent to him by Damon Albarn while Smith was “in the middle of finishing off the big song at the end of The Cure album”, which he described as “10 minutes of intense doom and gloom”.

Of how the pandemic had affected his work, the musician said: “Our whole idea for this year was really finishing off the album we started last year, me finishing off the solo album and also, finishing digitising decades of stuff in order to make this film with Tim Pope about the history of the band. So, it’s actually benefited me because there have been no other distractions, so I’ve actually got a lot of what I wanted to do, done.”

Maliboux Drops Hyper Dancey Remix Of Zedd’s “Inside Out” feat Griff

Our 40 Artists To Watch are already reinforcing our choices with new, lively tracks that make us remember why we fell in love with dance music in the first place. Jinx recently dropped a new dubstep banger, and now Maliboux is here with a winning remix submission for Zedd’s “Inside Out” featuring Griff!

The original reflects Zedd’s transition to the pop realm, with soft chords and melodies and an instantly catchy topline. Maliboux’s take on the track brings it to the next level with some subtly chopped vocals-turned-into-melody and a super dancey rhythm that turns this from radio hit to dance floor bop.

Listen to the other remixes from 3SCAPE DRM and Dominuscreed here, and check out the Maliboux remix and original below!

“Don’t feel ashamed for being sensitive”

Sam Fender has shared a letter he wrote to his 10-year-old self, in which he told himself to not “feel ashamed for being sensitive and empathetic”.

The musician read the message to his younger self during an appearance on Scott Mills’ show on BBC Radio 1.

“Hey Sam, I can picture you now – a chubby little thing, lightsaber in hand,” it began. “I wonder how many lampshades you’ve broke this year. Don’t worry about it though – your dad’s a jack-of-all-trades, he can fix anything. Even the car window you’re gonna smash in a couple of months time. Just throw an imaginary grenade next time.”

Fender continued to talk about his life at that time, including changes in his familial set-up and being bullied at school. “Don’t pay attention to any of the kids that give you grief for your hair or your weight,” he said. You’re gonna lose all of that in three years anyway, it’s just puppy fat.

“The bullies who catch you on the stairs are gonna want your autograph 10 years later. Don’t give it to them. Don’t feel ashamed for being sensitive and empathetic – that trait is going to be the foundation of your future career. You’re not ugly, you’re not stupid, so stop telling yourself that.”

He also encouraged himself to pick up the guitar “gathering dust” in his room, noting it would “definitely help you get a girlfriend”. He concluded by telling his 10-year-old self to focus on and appreciate his family members and to “stop worrying kid – you’ve got this”. Watch Fender read the whole letter above now.

Earlier this month (December 3), Fender launched a petition to make phone helplines free for vulnerable people in the UK after learning local councils in his area charge 40p per minute.

“We’ve all been on helplines before, you can be stuck on these things for God knows how long,” he said. “Half an hour will equate to 12 quid and if you’re skint and you’re homeless, or on the brink of being homeless 12 quid is a lot of money.”
