Tomorrowland teases New Year’s Eve digital venue, NAOZ – Dancing Astronaut

With its New Year’s Eve event just over a week away, Tomorrowland has shared a trailer offering the best look so far at its new digital event space, NAOZ. The virtual festival ground will host four different stages: Melodia, Atmosphere, Planaxis and Pulse, with each showcasing a different corner of electronic music.

Tomorrowland’s NYE event follows Tomorrowland Around The World, hosted in July, but unlike the digital island of Pāpiliōnem on which the prior festival was set, NAOZ has been positioned as a permanent digital venue able to be reused down the line. In order to sync up the festival schedule with global midnight countdowns, Tomorrowland will begin streaming at 8:00 p.m. in the local time of the streamer. Four different artists will be streaming when 2020 finally comes to a close: CamelPhat, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Brennan Hart (Hardstyle show), and Diplo, whose set ends exactly at midnight to make way for Boys Noize. Tickets begin at approximately $25 (€20) and are available on Tomorrowland’s website.

Karen Elson covers Robyn, ABBA and Elton John on new EP

Karen Elson has shared new covers EP ‘Radio Redhead Vol. 1’ – listen to the new record in full below.

On the new EP, Elson takes on songs by Robyn, ABBA, Cher, Elton John and more. The title of ‘Radio Redhead’ is taken from a quarantine Instagram Live series that Elson started earlier in lockdown, where she’d livestream a series of cover performances.

The new EP is made up of official recordings of the covers she streamed earlier this year, and the ‘Vol. 1’ suffix indicates we’ll be getting another edition soon.

“It took us a week to record this EP,” Elson said of the process in a statement. “Every day we’d approach a different song, break it apart, try to get to the root of the emotion and then build an homage to the original.

“The music feels very vulnerable and intimate — these songs are so powerful in their own right, we weren’t trying to make them anything they’re not. Just get down to their marrow and their essence.”

Listen to ‘Radio Redhead Vol. 1’ below.

Earlier this year, Karen Elson responded to a public apology from disgraced musician Ryan Adams, saying he needs to “contact women he has hurt” privately.

In 2019, Elson detailed a “traumatising experience” with Adams. Back in February 2019, Adams denied claims from several women – including one who was underage at the time – of emotional and psychological abuse, harassment, inappropriate and manipulative behaviour.

“I would like to hope he would contact women he has hurt via his representatives to apologize privately and give us the opportunity to speak our truth on all the ways his actions caused suffering and for him to listen and try to make amends,” Elson wrote in her tweets. “That said I hope he’s listening now.”

Ryan Adams returned this month, releasing an album called ‘Wednesday’.

Porter Robinson Reveals ‘Nurture’ is Finally Finished, Starts Working On Live Show

We all expected Porter Robinson’s sophomore album, Nurture, to be released this year. Then again, we expected a lot of things to happen this year that were derailed by a global pandemic. Without live shows, many artists delayed releases, waiting until they could showcase their art as it was made to be shown, especially when we’re talking about the intense, massive visual spectacle that is Porter Robinson.

Thankfully, we’re definitely getting the album in 2021, as he revealed yesterday, “as of today, Nurture is 100% finished.”

Having already received such illustrious singles as “Mirror,” “Get Your Wish,” and “Something Comforting,” we can only dream of the brilliant musical pieces that still await us with the full release.

He continued, “I turned in the absolute final version a few minutes ago. it’s my favorite music I’ve ever made. I’m so so fucking grateful for the extra time… the album (and me) have both benefitted so much.”

It feels like the initial album release all over again, a renewed hope in one of our favorite artists with new music on the horizon.

Diplo wrangles Leon Bridges, ERNEST features on ‘Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil (Deluxe)’ re-issue

After initiating his Thomas Wesley alias with Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil in May, Diplo is dusting off his cowboy hat and hopping back into the saddle for the deluxe version of the seminal issue. Increasing Snake Oil‘s song count from 12 to 14, Diplo lassos the talents of ERNEST and Leon Bridges to add two new tracklistings, “Bottle’s Bout Dead” and “Horizon” to the album’s lineup of would-be saloon favorites.

“Bottle’s Bout Dead” provides a platform for the furthering of Diplo’s country-tinged pop work, as does “Horizon.” The former flaunts a windows down, breeze streaking through the fingers sense of easygoing radio appeal that continues, in part, on the Bridges meeting. The two bonus tracks see Diplo work dexterously within the dynamic brand of country hybridization that made the genre newly accessible and uniquely appealing to many this year. For a primer in Diplo’s audience-widening approach to dance and pop-inflected country, all listeners need to do is get busy streaming below.

Liam Gallagher in the running for Christmas number one with ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’

Liam Gallagher is in the running for the coveted Christmas number one single with ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’.

The festive track is already the best-selling vinyl single of 2020 so far, and currently sits at #2 in the running for next week’s prize.

  • READ MORE: Liam Gallagher’s new song ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’ is a touching festive ballad

The former Oasis frontman released the festive track late last month, and has since performed it live on The Jonathan Ross Show and as part of his Down By The River Thames live-stream, as well as sharing its wintry official video.

Reviewing ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’, NME wrote: “Though you might expect the Oasis man to pen a rowdy ode to the booze-fuelled chaos of Christmas, ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’ is the polar opposite – a delicate, charming, perfectly composed ballad about love triumphing in times of crisis.

““What are you dreaming of?” he sings in its chorus over soaring strings and piano. “Is it the kind of love that will be there when the world is at its worst?” At the end of a year ravaged by rarely-seen trauma, it’s a gorgeous (gin and) tonic delivered with a straight face and an open heart.

Last week, Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ finally hit number one in the UK singles charts for the first time, 26 years after it was first released.

The track had its second week at the top of the charts yesterday (December 18), joined in the top five by other Christmas classics including Wham‘s ‘Last Christmas’ and The Pogues‘ ‘Fairytale Of New York’.

Oliver Heldens and Shungudzo reunite for euphoric release, ‘Freedom for my People’ – Dancing Astronaut

Oliver Heldens has teamed back up with American-Zimbabwean vocalist Shungudzo for what could be their most riveting release yet, “Freedom for my People.” The song saw its conception from an Acapella poem by Shungudzo, who wrote the piece in March when lockdowns began worldwide.

“Freedom For My People” transports the listener to another world in the introduction, drawing on tribal influences, that then make way for an energetic piano line and production to take over. Delivering a drop nothing short of euphoric, the track utilizes Shungudzo’s vocals in adding to the grounding, yet ethereal energy.

Heldens and Shungudzo teamed up in 2018 for “Fire In My Soul,” which has since amassed over 100 million streams. There is no doubt that “Freedom for my People” will find similar success.

The track is out now via Heldens’ newly minted OH2 Records.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross share soundtrack for Disney/Pixar film ‘Soul’

Nine Inch NailsTrent Reznor and Atticus Ross have shared their new score for upcoming Disney/Pixar film Soul – listen in full below.

The film comes to cinemas on Christmas Day, but the soundtrack has been given a digital and vinyl release a week prior (December 18).

Reznor and Ross have shared a handful of new soundtrack work across 2020. First, they scored the new Watchmen TV series, which they released the soundtrack for in three parts. Then last month, they reconnected with David Fincher to score Mank, after previously working with the director on The Social Network, Gone Girl and more.

Listen to the Soul soundtrack in full below.

Speaking of the Soul score, Reznor and Ross told Heroic Hollywood that the soundtrack is not “of this Earth”.

Reznor added: “Our first step is always to listen and really try to understand where the filmmakers are coming from: what they’re seeing, what they’re imagining.

“We spent a lot of time discussing how you’re supposed to feel when you’re first exposed to the Soul world. Then we went back to our studio, which is filled with a variety of real, imagined and synthetic instruments, and spent the first chunk of time experimenting with different arrangements and different instruments and seeing what felt emotionally right to create the fabric of this world.”

Back in May, Trent Reznor revealed that he was working on new Nine Inch Nails music during lockdown. “THE CURRENT PLAN IS TO FINISH UP SOME SCORING PROJECTS, WORK ON MY LIMITED PATIENCE SKILLS, DEEP DIVE INTO NEW NIN MATERIAL, AND HOPEFULLY BE PLAYING MUSIC LIVE FOR YOU IN 2021,” Reznor said of his lockdown plans while revealing that the band were cancelling an autumn tour.

Earlier on in the year, Nine Inch Nails surprised fans by releasing two brand new albums online, to help them feel “a little less alone” as the world battles the coronavirus crisis.
