sad alex originally released her song “nature” in 2019 as part of her songs that you’ll probably never hear EP. Now, it’s been given new life as part of a collaboration with Fairlane.
Bringing alex’s original acoustic into the EDM realm was an easy transition with the beautiful melody already in place, but Fairlane simply took it to another level. Adding an additional intro track was a unique move, separating it from the actual track itself. It’s soft and alluring in its simplicity, removed from the massive EDM bass and chords of the drop.
But when we do get to that part, it’s all the wonderful melodic bass that we could ever want. Seamlessly transitioning with the delicate guitar, alex’s voice comes in like an angel. The drums signal a different sound coming in next, and the swelling rhythm and melody lead into the drop with a dazzling intensity.
Check out “nature” from Fairlane and sad alex below!
Q-Dance, best known for their wildly popular hardstyle festival Defqon 1, has scored a landmark deal with Netflix. On December 22nd, their audiovisual experience Qlimax: The Source will be available to stream for the first time.
Q-Dance has enlisted an impressive list of artists for Qlimax: The Source, including performances from Sub Zero Project, Phuture Noize, Headhunterz and JDX, B-Front, KELTEK, and Sefa. While we’ve only been able to view the trailer so far, Qlimax: The Source is looking to be quite the sinister offering. Opening with flare-like flashes in the darkness, the trailer quickly cuts to an intimidating figure with glimpses of each of the contributing artists. To wrap things up, the trailer then gives viewers a preview of the various worlds Q-Dance has created for the project.
Though we’ve seen Netflix produce content that explores dance music in the past, such as XOXO and Turn Up Charlie, this will be the company’s first run at a hardstyle-focused cinematic endeavor. Even more enticing is the notion that Q-Dance’s deal could potentially pave the way for more dance music features on Netflix.
You can watch the trailer for Qlimax: The Source below.
Spotify continues to emphasize the importance of intertwining audio and visual art. Recently, the platform made its Canvas looping video feature available to the masses, allowing artists to upload a short clip to play alongside their releases and integrate into Instagram stories. Now, the streaming platform is rolling out a new mobile feature that allows users to upload their own custom playlist covers from the convenience of their phone.
Custom playlist covers have been available on the desktop version of Spotify for a while now, but mobile users lacked the functionality to change the default covers. Fortunately, this is no longer the case. Users on the mobile app simply need to click the three dots that appear at the top of the screen in their playlists and select “edit” then “change image.” Keep the app updated as the feature is reportedly rolling out to users slowly. Happy playlisting!
Paul McCartney has cast doubt on his chances of headlining the re-arranged Glastonbury Festival next year.
This year’s Glastonbury was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and while the festival is aiming to make a return in 2021, organiser Emily Eavis admitted earlier this week that she and her team are “quite a long way” from being able to confirm that its 2021 edition will go ahead as planned.

Speaking to The Sun on the eve of the release of his new solo album ‘McCartney III’, McCartney said that he was eager to get back on the live stage “whenever I can” before bringing up the prospect of Glastonbury, which he had been set to headline in the summer.
“People have started to find ways [of live performing] with Zoom and with socially distanced things,” he said. “But for a thing like Glastonbury where you’ve got over 100,000 people packed into a field, that’s a super-spreader, you know.
“But I’ll be glad when we can get back – it will be a nice change to actually play to some people.”

McCartney repeated his fears about Glastonbury during another interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, saying: “100,000 people closely packed together with flags and no masks – you know, talk about super-spreader. I’d love it to [happen], but I have a feeling it’s not going to.”
The Beatle added that Glastonbury is not currently in his diary for 2021.
McCartney was, however, cheered in his Sun interview by the news of the coronavirus vaccine, sharing his belief that it “will get us out of this”.
“I think we’ll come through it, I know we’ll come through, and it’s great news about the vaccine. I’ll have it as soon as I’m allowed.”
While no names have been officially confirmed for Glastonbury 2021, Eavis said back in June that she’s planning to combine two festival line-ups for the 2021 event, while also sharing her hopes that McCartney would be able to perform.
“We had Paul McCartney for this year. It’s unbearable to think that’s not happening, because it would have been the ultimate way to see in our 50th year,” she said.
“We’re remaining optimistic, but it’s choppy waters. I really hope that he’ll be back next year, singing it from the Pyramid.”
We’ve almost made it, everyone. In less than two weeks, 2020 will finally be in the books and behind us all. What better way to celebrate the end of the year than with one of the most unexpected, but delightful collabs 2020 has seen. German house duo Tube & Berger have teamed up with Like Mike for “Pineapple Tacos,” a bouncy tune that gives you a rush of disco and 80’s vibes.
Both acts have been staying busy in 2020, Tube & Berger have been steadily releasing music, most recently their False Gods EP. It’s also been a solid year for venerable main stage duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, heck, they just put out a Christmas album. “Pineapple Tacos,” however, sees the parties involved step away from their signature sounds for something completely different and unique.
The vibe is set right away by the 80s sounding synths. The beat is such that you can just picture some dude with a mullet and wearing pastel colored denim bobbing his head to the beat. I really like the melodic string synths, another nice 80s touch. There’s also a brief little trap drum breakdown to give it some Like Mike flair. “Pineapple Tacos” by Tube & Berger featuring Like Mike is just good clean fun. Give it a listen below.
The city of Barcelona is hard at work to get their citizens back into live music venues. This past Saturday, 1,000 residents gathered to participate in a medical study to evaluate the effectiveness of same-day coronavirus screening to safely host cultural events.
In order to be chosen to participate, volunteers had to pass an antigen screening. 500 were then randomly selected to enjoy the free concert inside Barcelona’s Apolo Theater. Those who were not selected were asked to return home. By doing this, a control group was formed, which allowed the organizers to analyze if there was any contagion inside the venue despite the initial screening.
The issue they are trying to get around is the fact that these antigen tests are not always as accurate as the other tests currently being offered, but they do produce results in 15 minutes versus hours or days later.
AP News interviewed a volunteer, CarolinaRius, who was awaiting the chance to enter the venue. “I really, really missed going to concerts, above all to hear some rock ’n’ roll,” the 56-year-old Rius said. “I don’t feel like a guinea pig. I feel like I am taking a stand. The world of culture, and above all the concert halls, are having a very bad time of it and I don’t want them to shut for good. And if they end up choosing me in the draw to go to a concert, that will be the cherry on top.”
Barcelona’s The Fight AIDS and Infectious Diseases Foundation along with the Primavera Sound Music Festival were all involved in hosting the potential breakthrough scientific study. “This is not a party, this is a scientific study,” Dr. Boris Revollo, the virologist who designed the study’s protocols, told AP News. “This could be useful in all types of events, from cultural events, to business congresses, to sporting events,” Revollo said. “And young people, as we have seen, are holding their own clandestine parties because they have no other outlet.”
While the 500 who were allowed into the event were required to wear FFP2 face masks and use hand disinfectant, social distancing was not enforced. This was in order to attempt to replicate a real concert atmosphere as realistically as possible. The energy in the photos taken from the evening exudes the freedom these volunteers felt as a sense of normalcy finally washed over them.
Each of the 1,000 volunteers will also be required to still take two PCR tests, which are regarded as more reliant on detecting the virus. The first test was administered the Saturday of the concert before entrance, and will be taken again eight days later.
AP News notes that an association representing concert halls in Spain said that more than 25,000 concerts have been shelved due to the impact of the virus, costing the industry 120 million euros ($145 million) in lost revenue. This scientific study is one step closer in the right direction for all those hoping to return to live music.

“I am far from perfect, but I’ve learnt a lot about myself while creating this album and I will continue to grow into a better person for myself and aim to be a reflection of what I want to see in this world.
“I hope this album can be the light if you’re in the dark, and to know that you’re not alone,” he added. “It’s OK to be yourself, fuck everything else.
“Learn, grow, aim to better than you were yesterday.”
Speaking to Apple Music last month, Slowthai revealed that Skepta helped him through a difficult period earlier this year.

Monstercat is the gift that just keeps on giving. To tie a bow on 2020, the label’s Holiday Remix Exchange series will see seven unique and genre-diverse artists pitted into a “Secret Santa”-style scenario, where each artist was assigned a track from one of the others to put their own spin on it.
Today’s gift came courtesy of the prolific Infected Mushroom, who reworked Pegboard Nerds‘ “Hero (feat. Elizaveta)” into their signature blend of psytrance and bass. Check out the new remix below.
It seems a tall order to take on a remix for “Hero,” one of Pegboard Nerds’ most popular singles, which was released back in 2014. But perhaps no musicians were better suited to rework Pegboard Nerds’ mega-hit than Infected Mushroom. The duo cleverly inject their instantly-recognizable sound into the track with four-to-the-floor sections and a heavy halftime drop, serving up a tasteful and complementary remix on the venerated Monstercat banner.
Monstercat Holiday Remix Exchange also saw another Infected Mushroom release, with the UK-based producer Stonebank retooling the duo’s psytrance single “Spitfire” into a crushing dubstep track.
Both Infected Mushroom releases arrived just ahead of the duo’s must-see DJ set today at 12PM PT (3PM ET, 9PM CT), in celebration of the Monstercat Holiday Remix Exchange. Infected Mushroom’s performances will be broadcast via the label’s Twitch channel in partnership with EDM.com.
Monstercat’s Holiday Remix Exchange has also seen releases from major electronic music artists such as Au5 and Darren Styles, and there’s no telling who’s up next on the roster to present their own gifts as the event continues. Fans can keep up with the Monstercat advent calendar at the imprint’s official website.
