Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden submit four-track EP of house mastery, ‘The Answer’ – Dancing Astronaut

Nearly one month to the day of Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden‘s revelation that they had a collaborative four-track EP on the way comes The Answer, released in full via Black Book and Astralwerks. Preceded by the project’s title track, which samples Blind Truth’s Arthur Baker and Victor Simonelli’s 1991 staple, “Why Can’t We See,” the three new additions represent a seamless meeting of two distinctive yet related generations of house music.

The EP is the culmination of Lake’s serendipitous encounter with Van Helden years ago. The Grammy-nominated producer recalled the interaction, recounting,

“I bumped into Armand in Miami at a pool party and we exchanged emails. A month later, he hit me up and floated the idea of working together; the vibes were flying after we sat down on the first morning, chugging coffee, visualizing what could be made.”

The Answer cohesively represents the alluring combination of nostalgic house grooves and contemporary dance elements across its four cuts, on which Lake and Van Helden’s allegiance to each other’s musical influences is as clear as their own synergy.

Hologramme Enlists Lunice, Fakear & More for ‘Geist Im Glas’ EP

Just over a year after his debut studio album Felicity, Montréal’s ascending electronica act Hologramme is closing this chapter with a brand new remix EP titled ‘Geist Im Glas‘. Geist Im Glas (or Ghost in a Glass in german) is a dreamlike dance anthology comprised of renditions by some of the premier DJ’s and producers out of France and Montréal. Featuring remixes by Fakear, Lunice, Moses Bélange, Robert Robert and Ouri, ‘Geist Im Glas‘ is out now by way of Hologramme’s own imprint Société Holographique de Montréal.

The concept behind ‘Geist Im Glas‘ was to capture other artist’s interpretation of the essence of Felicity (2019). By encouraging thoughtful collaboration and exchange between producers, Hologramme intended to forge new connections and slowly foster a community of likeminded musicians.

The record starts with Montreal’s electronic legend Lunice on remix duties for “Berlin”. Well known for his work with Madonna, Aleazia Banks and Hudson Mohawk, the two artists met while performing live sessions at Mural Festival last summer and their creative synergies paved the way for Lunice’s contribution. French producer Fakear is a staple of electronic music, with his creative reputation needing no introduction and accolades inclusive of milestone performances with event creatives Cercle amassing over 5 million streams to date. His remix of the albums title track “Felicity” was born on tour in Europe where Hologramme accompanied Montréal indie artist Geoffroy. Also offering her own unique take on “Felicity” we see Ouri, the Montreal beatmaker who has not ceased to attract attention since her humble beginnings. “Bon Voyage” is remixed by Robert Robert, an old time friend and collaborator, and Moses Bélanger remixed the dark and moody “Nocturne” with a master’s touch.

You can stream ‘Geist Im Glas‘ on your favorite platform here, or find it below on Spotify!

Blue Ivy Carter receives first Grammy nomination for Beyonce’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’

Blue Ivy Carter has received her first ever Grammy nomination for her contribution to mum Beyoncé‘s ‘Brown Skin Girl’ music video.

The 8-year-old’s name wasn’t on the list of nominees when it was released in November, but was added to the Recording Academy’s website yesterday (December 11). She now appears alongside Beyoncé and WizKiD as a Best Music Video Grammy Award candidate for ‘Brown Skin Girl’. However, collaborator SAINt JHN does not appear on the list.

The video is up against Harry Styles‘ clip for ‘Adore You’, Anderson .Paak‘s ‘Lockdown’ video, Woodkid’s ‘Goliath’ and Future‘s ‘Life Is Good’ clip, featuring Drake. The winners of the 63rd Grammy Awards will be announced next month on January 31.

It’s not the first time Blue Ivy Carter has been recognised for her role in the song and its video. She, along with Beyoncé, Saint JHN and WizKid, won the Soul Train Award for video of the year last month, and also took out the Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration award at the NCAAP Image Awards in February.

She also secured her first Billboard 100 hit at the age of seven, when ‘Brown Skin Girl’ debuted at Number 76 on the charts.

The song and accompanying video appeared on Beyoncé’s visual album ‘Black Is King’, which was based on Disney’s The Lion King.

As for Beyoncé, she’s become the most Grammy-nominated female artist in the history of the awards. She’s in the running for nine awards at the forthcoming event, including record of the year for ‘Black Parade’ and ‘Savage’, with Megan Thee Stallion.

She now holds 79 nominations in total and has won 24 times, making her even with Paul McCartney as the second most-nominated artist of all time. Only Quincy Jones and husband Jay-Z are ahead, holding 80 nominations each.

NGHTMRE Drops Majestic Remix for ZHU’s “I Admit It” ft. 24kGoldn [LISTEN]

NGHTMRE takes on ZHU‘s latest genre-bending production, “I Admit It” featuring 24kGoldn, for an insane remix that balances “swaggering power and delicate beauty.”

The ominous nature of the original carries over into the intro of the remix, before cinematic elements ultimately take hold. NGHTMRE builds up his musical vision for “I Admit It” deliberately, creating much tension before landing into a grimy circus of growling synths.

NGHTMRE shares of the release:

ZHU is one of my personal favorite artists and it’s always dope working with him. He has an amazing vision for what he wants and always makes it happen. For this remix, I tried to give it even more energy than the original, and added a second drop that’s a bit more melodic. I hope everyone has as much fun listening to it as I did making it!

This isn’t the first time ZHU and NGHTMRE have teamed up… In 2019, the two collaborated on “Man’s First Inhibition” featuring Kidd Keem, a song that plays out magnificently to both of their styles. NGHTMRE also remixed Ekali x ZHU’s “Blame” in 2018.

More recently, ZHU and NGHTMRE threw down b2b for Digital Mirage’s Friendsgiving edition, put on by Proximity and Brownies & Lemonade.

Felix Jaehn & Cheat Codes Join Forces on ‘I Just Wanna’ ft. Bow Anderson

Felix Jaehn returns to the release radar with ‘I Just Wanna’, the latest single to come from the established German talent since his late August-released LGBTQIA+ anthem ‘No Therapy’. This time around, he’s joined by Los Angeles-based dance music trio Cheat Codes, and has also enlisted the vocal talent of rising Scottish up-and-comer Bow Anderson. Out now on Universal Music, ‘I Just Wanna’ is available to listen to across all streaming platforms.

The feel-good tune immediately kicks off with a catchy beat, alongside a shimmering vocal courtesy of burgeoning London-based singer/songwriter Bow Anderson. The lively track’s propelling energy is maintained throughout its entirety, perfectly complemented by an infectiously rhythmic four-on-the-floor pattern. The richly sonorous, textured singing from Cheat Codes adds to the track’s overall sprightly tone, in turn producing a wholly upbeat romp that’s audibly rife with both a powerful edge and raw emotion. A pop dance track from start to finish, ‘I Just Wanna’ maintains a house music feel, with a warm groove perpetuated throughout.

‘I am so happy that ‘I Just Wanna’ with Cheat Codes and Bow is finally out now. The boys and I have been talking about doing a collab for years and I’m beyond excited to share what we’ve been working on. This song fits so well into this cozy season and the sensual vibes feel perfect for some time together with your loved ones. Take your partner, family or friends, cuddle up and enjoy life. I hope you are feeling the love.’ – Felix Jaehn

Your EDM’s Top 40 Artists To Watch for 2021

Without a doubt, this has been one of the hardest years for musicians in a long, long time. Perhaps ever. COVID-19 absolutely decimated the live event space and many artists who were coming up and booked major shows, opening slots, or festival appearances were left without a plan.

Still, in this day and age, without a strong sense of perseverance, you won’t get far in this industry. Thankfully, many artists have taken the hit and rolled with the punches and still had a phenomenal year.

We began compiling this list as early as late last year, and expected it to look a lot different taking live shows and support into account, but COVID-19 obviously derailed those plans. Then, live streams started happening and smaller promoters were able to highlight some truly talented artists.

This list was created based on our own observations throughout the year, recommendations from key industry figures, and some like Castion, Dr. Ushūu, and Ipsiom from suggestions from our own followers on Twitter.

As we do every year, we’ve picked our 40 artists who we feel will have an incredible year in 2021, not just in their own personal careers, but also on the electronic music scene as a whole. As a reminder, we do our best not to repeat names year after year so as to give new artists the spotlight. So if you don’t see the name of an artist you feel has had a great year and is destined for more, it’s more than likely we featured them in the past five years.

2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020

See Your EDM’s Artists To Watch in 2021 list below. Congratulations to all who are featured! We expect big things of you next year.

Miami district court orders Ultra 2020 ticket refund case to arbitration

On November 23, a judge in Florida’s district court ordered the class action lawsuit filed against Ultra Music Festival/Event Entertainment Group, Inc. in May to go to arbitration. The ordering United States District Judge, Robert N. Scola, Jr., has stayed the case pending arbitration, halting all further legal proceedings in the meantime. Scola Jr.’s order means that the plaintiffs, who filed the lawsuit in a bid to reclaim the funds from their 2020 Ultra Miami ticket purchases when the event was cancelled and subsequently rescheduled due to COVID-19 health concerns, and Ultra personnel must agree on an arbitrator to facilitate the process. Arbitration refers to a private, more expeditious type of proceeding that remains between the two parties and, unlike litigation, does not move forward in a public courtroom.

Under Scola Jr.’s order, both parties have been instructed to submit their respective disputes to arbitration. Scola Jr. additionally directed the clerk to administratively close the case in the meantime.

The order comes in spite of the plantiffs’ efforts “to avoid arbitration,” according to a court document in which Scola Jr. proclaimed that the court found their “resistance to arbitration unavailing” as they “failed to establish either procedural or substantive unconscionability” of the arbitrating clause outlined in Ultra’s ticketing agreement. While the plaintiffs formally argued against arbitration prior to the November 23 order, Ultra sought “to compel arbitration based on [said] arbitration clause” in the event’s ticketing agreement.

The district court’s order aligns with Ultra’s desired path of motion forward—to an extent. The court notably denied Ultra’s request for dismissal of the plaintiffs’ claims with prejudice. Dismissal with prejudice means that the court’s dismissal represents the final determination on the merits of the case, and bars the plaintiff from filing another lawsuit on the same grounds. No further details on how or when the arbitration will proceed are available at this time.
