Good Morning Mix: Revisit the concept of a commute with Sonny Fodera and MK’s U-Bahn back-to-back

Anywhere is a dance floor—if you’re Sonny Fodera and Mark Kinchen. In 2019, Fodera and the Area 10 records head turned the concept of a commute on its head when they took over a Berlin U-Bahn car during standard business hours, going double duty in the house domain for a back-to-back set that effectively ended the workday.

Interweaving originals from Chiqito, OFFAIAH, Eats Everything, and Dom Dolla, among a host of other acts in the house and tech house division, Fodera and MK soundtracked the “Body 2 Body” subway experience in a stint that—no surprise here—underscored their shared status as genre stalwarts. Watch Fodera and MK, who linked up on “One Night” that same year, host the Selected Sessions occasion below.

Kanye West to produce Pusha T’s forthcoming record

Pusha T has announced regular collaborator Kanye West will be a producer on his forthcoming album.

During a conversation with manager Steven Victor on Instagram Live, Pusha T said both Ye and production duo The Neptunes had been enlisted for the LP.

“To be honest with y’all, I haven’t put any features on the album yet,” the rapper said.

“They wanna know about production,” Victor replied, “They don’t care about the features.”

The rapper’s album is yet to be titled or given a release date.

West featured on Pusha T’s previous album, ‘Daytona’, in addition to producing it, with the record released through G.O.O.D., of which West is founder and Pusha T is president.

“Being president of G.O.O.D. Music is a job that to me goes hand-in-hand with having relationships with the artists on [the] G.O.O.D. [roster] – which I already have – and just giving my opinion, and basically trying to oversee the releases,” Pusha T told NME around the time of the album’s release.

“So to me it’s not that hard – it’s just what we already do.”

While King Push hasn’t released any new music this year, he did feature on the Black Thought track ‘Good Morning’, alongside Killer Mike and Swizz Beatz.

The Radar 136: Mixed by Leandro Da Silva – Dancing Astronaut

Leandro Da Silva makes the happy, mood-boosting house music that the world needs right now. The Italo-Brazilian artist has built quite the catalog, cementing himself as a true groove-inducing producer in 2020 through releases such as his hit single “Because Of You,” released via Spinnin’ Records, a remix of David Guetta and Sia‘s “Flames” that went No. 1 on Beatport, and his latest release, “Breathe.” Da Silva’s new house jam leans on a darker end of the spectrum, yet fuses the composition’s undertones with soulful vocals from Rion S and uplifting synths. To date, “Breathe” has taken Da Silva well over 7 million global streams on Spotify this year alone.

Now, Da Silva graces Dancing Astronaut with a nearly 60-minute concoction of danceable sounds, including a personal bootleg of Sofi Tukker and Gorgon City‘s 2020 hit “House Arrest,” the latest smash from Shermanology “Bon Bini,” a few rhythmic IDs, and more.

Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo shares 2,655 unheard demos for his “web programming class final project”

Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo has shared a whopping 2655 previously unheard demos via a new web market page.

Cuomo took to Twitter to announce the material as his final project of his “web programming class”, which he’s currently completing via online non-profit learning platform edX.

The demos are taken from both Cuomo’s and Weezer’s lengthy discography, and are separated into bundles spanning years of Cuomo’s musical career.

A short preview and explanation of some bundles can be heard on the web page, narrated by Cuomo himself.

While each bundle is being sold at a flat rate of USD $9 (£6.70), the number of tracks in each package significantly vary.

The shortest, a master session of ‘Gravity Will Bring You Down’, runs just over 15 minutes, while ‘Alone XI: The EWBAITE Years’, contains 1113 demos and has a runtime of 38 hours and 25 minutes.

Cuomo also posted an explanation/buyer beware on the page, noting that any demo may have “silence”, be “wildly inappropriate”, or might just be “me rambling, talking, making sounds”.

He also added that buyers could receive additional content as he discovers more old demos in his backlog.

“On the bright side, I realized I can add files to the dropbox folders after they’ve gone on sale,” Cuomo explained.

“That means you can re-download the bundle, or the specific files, and get additional content as I discover it. Very cool.”

UK government lifts quarantine period for performing artists entering country – Dancing Astronaut

In the United Kingdom’s latest move to support the music industry amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the country has issued new rules surrounding the quarantine period upon arrival. As of December 5, performing artists or those traveling for business will not have to self-isolate if entering the UK from a high-risk country.

For those traveling from high-risk countries, the 14-day quarantine is still in motion, despite providing an exception for performing artists and business travelers. Under the ruling by Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, performing artists will need to be certified by The Arts Council to bypass the restriction.

These announcements have been made in the midst of the CDC’s changing guidance on quarantine periods, which is anticipated to be lessened to five days beginning December 15.

Hot Chip announce charity livestream with Jarvis Cocker, Kero Kero Bonito and more

Hot Chip have announced a livestream event that will see them perform virtual DJ sets alongside recent collaborator Jarvis Cocker, Superorganism, Kero Kero Bonito, Dillon Francis and more.

‘Hot Chip & Friends’ is set to take place on December 18 from 8pm GMT and will feature back to back DJ sets right through to morning.

The ticketed livestream is raising funds for Crisis UK, the national charity for homeless people. Tickets are available here by donation.

“We’re glad to be able to support the essential work that Crisis is doing with the homeless community at this time of year when so many factors combine to make life extremely difficult for vulnerable people on the streets or in temporary accommodation,” commented the band.

Earlier this month, Hot Chip were announced as one of the supports for New Order‘s homecoming Manchester show next year. Taking place at Manchester’s Heaton Park on September 10, 2021, Working Men’s Club will also perform.

Hot Chip shared latest single ‘Straight to the Morning’, featuring Cocker, back in October. The band’s last studio album was 2019’s ‘A Bath Full of Ecstasy’.

In a four-star review, NME declared the record Hot Chip’s strongest in years, calling it “an album about being suffocated by the world around you and trying to find moments of joy within that world, however small, in order to survive”.
