Sofi Tukker throw technological twist on Lady Gaga’s ‘911’ – Dancing Astronaut

Known for their distinctive and unabashed house sound, Sofi Tukker recently added to their vast repertoire with a remix of Lady Gaga‘s “911,” from her 2020 Grammy-nominated album, Chromatica.

Tukker’s take features a slinking baseline in conjunction with their typical down-pitched samples. The overall tone of Gaga’s original holds true, keeping the authentic and unapologetic expression of creeping self-doubt, to which fans and artists can often overwhelmingly relate.

Tacking on a resounding 126 BPM that keeps time across the entirety of the track, the more uptempo output and its techno permeation make for an eerier take on the pop star’s anthem. Adding their classic texture to an already intrepid track, Sofi Tukker have done it again with yet another remix. Thankfully, they’ve bestowed a three-minute and an extended version, both of which can be streamed below.

Paul McCartney says music was his “silver lining” during lockdown

Paul McCartney has opened up about the making of his new solo album during lockdown.

  • Read More: The Big Read – Paul McCartney: “The Beatles were brothers arguing, that’s what families do”

Dubbing the period spent at home recording “rockdown” in a new interview with The Sunday Times, the former Beatle star said he tried to remain optimistic writing the album, which is set for release on December 18.

“Well, I am an optimist,” McCartney said. “Generally speaking I do believe things are good, and we screw them up. In fact, a lot of people during lockdown would say, ‘Oh God!’ And I’d say, ‘Yes, but there’s a silver lining.’ It was a phrase I used a lot. I was loath to say it because a lot of people had it bad, but suddenly we saw more of the family than ever, and I was able to do recordings. That was my silver lining.”

He continued: “It’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking things are bad and getting worse. Which, I don’t know, may be true, but I know I’d then be bummed out by that, so I say to myself, ‘Well, it’s not that bad. Think about the other day. That was good!’ I am always trying to find the good in things.”

Elsewhere in the interview, McCartney went on to discuss his thoughts on John Lennon and whether or not The Beatles would have ever reunited.

McCartney said: “We made a decision when the Beatles folded that we weren’t going to pick it up again. So we switched off from the Beatles. You talk about something coming full circle that is very satisfying; let’s not spoil it by doing something that might not be as good. It was a conscious decision to leave well enough alone, so I don’t really think we would have. But who knows? We could have.”

Going on to speak about a potential reunion in light of his repaired friendship with Lennon, McCartney then added: “We had certainly got our friendship back, which was a great blessing for me, and I now will often think, if I’m writing a song, ‘OK, John — I’ll toss it over to you. What line comes next?’ So I’ve got a virtual John that I can use.”

McCartney recently delayed the release of his upcoming solo album due to “unforeseeable production delays”.

The record is the long-awaited final part of the ‘McCartney’ solo album trilogy, following on from ‘McCartney’ in April 1970 and ‘McCartney II’ in May 1980.

After previously setting a December 11 release date, ‘McCartney III’ will now arrive a week later on December 18.

Disclosure Takes an Unconventional Path With “Watch Your Step” VIP Remix

As the statement-making opening track on their recent album ENERGY, Disclosure’s “Watch Your Step” sought to bring listeners to their feet, a position they were likely to remain in for the duration of the album. With their latest offering, a VIP remix of the disco-infused track featuring Kelis, the UK house powerhouse duo has taken the track into unexpected territory.

With a drum cadence more closely related to breakbeat than house, the duo’s appetite to experiment becomes instantly apparent. Disclosure brings in some filter-driven flare to the mix with colorful, crescendoing lead chords that add a certain futuristic quality to the song’s original disco elements. The duo spices things up rhythmically with a souped-up bassline that phases with an almost elastic quality.

The BUKU Project announces 2021 virtual event, postpones to 2022 – Dancing Astronaut

The BUKU Project, the annual music and arts festival hosted in New Orleans, has announced they will delay their in-person festival until 2022. The festival was scheduled for March 2021, but festival organizers have cancelled early “in the spirit of transparency and certainty.”

“Our two main priorities – fan safety and fan enjoyment – are guiding us, and we just can’t picture 25k of us partying together safely in March in the free-roaming BUKU atmosphere that y’all love. Ain’t nothing socially distant about BUKU,” stated organizers.

In lieu of the regularly scheduled event, BUKU will host BUKU: Planet B, an “immersive, one-time-only, alternative take on BUKU.” The placeholder event will take place October 22-23, 2021. No details about the lineup or events schedule have been shared yet.

Liam Gallagher calls out Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson during Thames performance

Liam Gallagher‘s ‘Down By The River Thames’ livestream event aired last night (December 5), and during the performance he shared a few words aimed at Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson.

Gallagher and his band performed while floating down a barge on London’s River Thames for an event streamed exclusively on MelodyVR. It arrived after fans initially spotted the former Oasis frontman performing on the river last month.

The set saw Gallagher perform a mixture of iconic songs, fan favourites and a few surprises spanning his solo career and his legendary tenure as Oasis frontman.

Besides performing Oasis classics ‘Hello’, ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Headshrinker’ for the first time as a solo artist, LG also gave new single ‘All You’re Dreaming Of’ its live debut, which was shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night (December 4).

During the performance of ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, taken from Oasis’ 1994 debut ‘Definitely Maybe’, Gallagher took a moment to call out British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

After singing the opening lines to the song’s second verse, “Is it worth the aggravation/ To find yourself a job when there’s nothing worth working for?“, Gallagher pointed his maracas at the camera and added: “That’s for you fucking Rishi…and fucking Doris.”

Watch the moment LG calls out Johnson and Sunak below:

See the setlist for Gallagher’s ‘Down By The River Thames’ performance below:

‘Hello’ (Oasis song)
‘Wall of Glass’
‘Halo’
‘Shockwave’
‘Columbia’ (Oasis song)
‘Fade Away’ (Oasis song)
‘Why Me? Why Not’
‘Greedy Soul’
‘The River’ (with Gene Gallagher)
‘Once’
‘Morning Glory’ (Oasis song)
‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ (Oasis song)
‘Headshrinker’ (Oasis song)
‘Supersonic’ (Oasis song)
‘Champagne Supernova’ (Oasis song)

Encore:
‘All You’re Dreaming Of’

Last week, Gallagher spoke on his aversion to playing gigs on Zoom. “It’s ridiculous,” he has said.

Appearing on the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show, he said: “I’ve always been confident in what I do from the day I was born, even when I was digging holes in Manchester, I dug ‘em good…”

Meanwhile, Matt Lucas has claimed that Liam Gallagher and Damon Albarn once shared a peaceful drink with him “at the height of Britpop” – a story that the former Oasis frontman disputes.

D.O.D and The Melody Men Deliver Uplifting House Tune “Moments”

Dynamic British DJ and producer D.O.D has teamed up with The Melody Men—a multifaceted UK writing and production duo ironically made up of two women—for a new collaborative track.

During these unprecedented times, artists have had to seek out new avenues for inspiration. “Moments” was created to resonate with fans who have been forced to spend extended periods of time away from family and friends, delivering a much-needed dose of positivity.

The single consists of vocals echoing the burning question, “When will I see you again?” paired with an upbeat, melodic house arrangement. The inspiring song sets out invigorate listeners with hope and optimism about good things to come, while reminding us how important it is to cherish the special “Moments.”

Julian Casablancas hopes for more future collaborations with Daft Punk – Dancing Astronaut

Like most of the music community, The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has been “trying to do something” with the elusive Daft Punk again.

Unfortunately, according to Casablancas in a recent interview with The Needle Drop, the iconic French duo is “not doing music right now,” and have committed their robotic hearts elsewhere at the moment, stating,

“I don’t want to blow up their spot, but I think one of them was focused on like video stuff and then the other one was kind of obsessing with Ancient Aliens or something”

Casablancas and Daft Punk first joined forces back in 2013 for “Instant Crush,” a standout track amidst a standout album in the latter’s Random Access Memories. In reflecting on the collaborative process of that track, The Strokes’ lead singer recalls being presented with two different demos that each felt reminiscent of the electronic duo’s “medieval, euro, minor, classical baroque flavor” from tracks like “Verdis Quo.” The two takes were ultimately “plopped together” to make up the verse and chorus of “Instant Crush,” and the rest is platinum certified history.

The full hour long interview with Casablancas, which comes on the heels of The Strokes’ sixth full length LP, The New Abnormal, is available below. For those specifically interested in the Daft Punk conversation, skip ahead to the 43:00 mark.
