Spotify donates half a million dollars to the National Independent Venue Association – Dancing Astronaut

As independent music venues across the nation struggle to stay afloat amid ongoing COVID-19–related financial challenges, Spotify is showing its support in the form of a $500,000 donation to the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA). The funds were reportedly divested from Spotify’s annual marketing campaigns and reallocated to NIVA.

As a gesture of gratitude for the donation, which is the second largest on record, following Anhauser Busch’s $1 million contribution, several NIVA member venues granted Spotify access to their marquee boards to “tell stories of artists whose careers were great in 2020, but were bolstered by their ability to perform at these live venues that are currently struggling,” according to Spotify VP and Global Executive Creative Director, Alex Bodman. In addition to pointing to industry talents who forged their paths inside the walls of independent venues, the marquees also issue nods to the streaming platform’s 2020 Wrapped feature.

G Jones – immortal light (Juuku flip)

Juuku’s latest drop is another massive remix – making this his tenth of the year. The rising artist took an oath at the top of the year for his fans that he planned to release 2 new songs every month and has not fallen short of his promise. Putting an intense touch on G Jones’ 2019 single, “Immortal Light”, he really stepped up to the plate for this one. Morphing his intense production style of glitchy, trap, while still staying in a similar lane to the original, this one goes hard. Juuku attributes a lot of his musical inspiration to G Jones and even took to Instagram stating how, “G Jones is one of my absolute favorite artists and i wanted to make sure i did the song justice while adding my own vision to the interpretation.” Chime off in the comments below to let us know if you think he did G Jones justice! Enjoy.

Claud announces debut album ‘Super Monster’, shares new single

Indie-pop singer Claud has announced details of their debut album, ‘Super Monster’, after being the first act to sign to Phoebe Bridgers’ new label, Saddest Factory.

‘Super Monster’ will be out February 12, 2021. Coinciding with the announcement, Claud has also shared the new single ‘Soft Spot’. Listen to the new single below:

In a statement, Claud described ‘Soft Spot’ as a lament about having unrequited feelings for someone.

“This song is about knowing I can’t be with this one specific person, but my feelings won’t go away… I still hope I run into them, or they randomly text me about something,” they said.

“It’s just me romanticising what I can’t have and being like ‘but what if…’.”

The theme of young love continues throughout Claud’s debut album. According to the tracklist, ‘Super Monster’ will include ‘Soft Spot’ and previous release ‘Gold’. Notably, the last track on the album seems to feature Shelly, the new grouping made up of Claud, Clairo, and their friends Josh Mehling and Noa Frances Getzug.

The Saddest Factory label was announced by Bridgers earlier this year, with the singer acting as CEO. The label is an imprint of Dead Oceans.

“The vision of the label is simple: good songs, regardless of genre,” she said.

The ‘Super Monster’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Overnight’
2. ‘Gold’
3. ‘Soft Spot’
4. ‘In or In-Between’
5. ‘Cuff Your Jeans’
6. ‘Ana ft. Nick Hakim’
7. ‘Guard Down’
8. ‘This Town’
9. ‘Jordan’
10. ‘That’s Mr. Bitch To You ft. Melanie Faye’

Zeds Dead Reveal ‘THE LOST TAPES’ Out This Friday [DETAILS]

Zeds Dead are throwing it back with a brand new, old school release, THE LOST TAPES.

The bass duo consisting of DC and Hooks dropped the news last night, revealing a forthcoming collection of some of their earliest work. These dubstep pioneers came on the scene in 2009 and soon made their presence known with their iconic remix of Blue Foundation’s “Eyes on Fire.” The rest is history, but soon we’ll hear more from that timeline.

Zeds Dead share in a post:

We’ve been in the studio a lot this year and got the chance to dig through the vaults a bit while working on new music. This Friday we’re sharing some of what we found. THE LOST TAPES is a collection of old school dubs and misplaced IDs that have never been released until now. Vol. 1 is 10 beats we made sometime during 2008-2009, with future volumes to cover other time periods.

From the sounds of it, we can expect THE LOST TAPES to continue as a series, featuring various unreleased productions through different timeframes of their career.

The first edition of THE LOST TAPES will be made available on Bandcamp, Soundcloud, and YouTube this Friday, December 4th. Check back here to listen when it drops.

LE SHUUK & D.T.E say ‘DAMN DAMN’

Make way for a raving collab between le Shuuk and D.T.E, presenting their claim to fame with the raw tune ‘Damn Damn’. Both artists clearly express their dissatisfaction with the current situation, as lockdowns everywhere keep the people from dancing together. It’s a necessary measure, but also something these DJ/producers are fed up with. The pounding tune ‘Damn Damn’ underlines their hope and eagerness for the party to continue soon.

It’s not a surprising message. As the whole cultural sector is suffering from worldwide lockdowns, and dance events, in particular, are not taking place at all, the need to start dancing together is getting stronger by the day. Of course, it’s not only the audience that feels this way, DJ’s are suffering with them, aching to jump on stage again and present a raving show.

So, for sure these guys feel the need to get the party started again. With ‘Damn Damn’ they try to create momentum for that, a pounding tune that would normally enlighten the festival stage and get everyone jumping in a frenzy. It’s a record that continues on their earlier releases, presenting a sturdy groove that builds on pulsating triplet sounds, hardstyle elements, and nicely rolling slap house rhythms. These raw beats are countered by a strong melody and enticing vocals, calling out to ‘not give a damn’ and just start to dance again.

It’s a call to action, but with respect for the current rules. ‘Damn Damn’ is the anthem that reminds the audience there’s still music to dance to, and the rave should continue as soon as this is possible. Just hold on, and get ready to get back on your dancing feet – this is the song to keep you raving for now.

“Music and dance are the universal languages of mankind. They are a tool to peacefully unite all people, but can also become the soundtrack for a revolutionary movement. ‘Damn Damn’ represents the idea of new beginnings, and we hope it will become reality soon.”  – le Shuuk

“Every revolution begins with a spark. If I can’t dance to it, then it’s not my revolution. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Be young. Be stupid. Be reckless.” – D.T.E

Margo Price releases a festive cover of Joni Mitchell’s ‘River’

Country artist Margo Price has put a festive spin on Joni Mitchell‘s ‘River’, taken from the latter’s iconic 1971 album ‘Blue’.

In a press release, Price said she decided to record the song to send fans “a message of peace and love for the rest of the year, and the hope for 2021 to be everything 2020 wasn’t”.

Price’s cover opens with the melody from ‘Jingle Bells’ before she begins on Mitchell’s opening verse with a stripped-back piano melody.

To coincide with the rendition’s release, Price shared a video of her performing the song, dressed in white and playing piano at Pulse Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.

Watch the video below:

Price has issued several covers in recent months, most recently taking on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s ‘WAP’ in an acoustic cover which she performed on The Daily Show in August.

Way back in June, Price appeared on US show CBS This Morning and performed Bob Dylan‘s ‘Things Have Changed’ alongside her recent single ‘Letting Me Down’.

Price dropped her most recent album, ‘That’s How Rumors Get Started’, on July 10. The album had been set to hit streaming services on May 8, before the coronavirus pandemic forced Price to delay its release.

Spotify Donates $500,000 to National Independent Venue Association (NIVA)

As part of its 2020 Wrapped campaign, Spotify is donating $500,000 to the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA).

The donation will be directed toward 30+ venues directly impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) shutdown, and the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund. The organization’s #SaveOurStages effort launched in October, raising money for our most vulnerable venues and iconic stages.

Co-founder and treasurer of NIVA, Stephen Sternschein, says:

As 2020 draws to a close, the live music industry enters month nine of no shows, no income, no federal support, and ever-mounting debts. Music is what connects us all – as Spotify shows us, it’s what helped our friends, our families and our communities get through this tumultuous year.

In addition, a new partnership will be rolling out in the coming weeks as major artists share their stories and emphasize the importance of saving the stages they’ve appeared on. The roster includes Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Childish Gambino, The Weeknd, and more.

Sternschein continues:

Everyone’s favorite artists started somewhere, and we’re immensely thankful to Spotify for helping us to tell these stories. The stories that artists like Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, The Strokes, and so many more began on the very stages that today are struggling to survive.
