Tiffany Haddish narrates new trailer for Mariah Carey’s Christmas TV special


A new trailer has been shared for Mariah Carey‘s upcoming Christmas-themed TV special, narrated by Tiffany Haddish – watch it below.

Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special will premiere on AppleTV+ on December 4, and include musical performances and guest appearances from Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson and Snoop Dogg.

The new trailer, narrated by Haddish, explains the backdrop of 2020, and how a slice of Christmas cheer from Carey is more important now than ever.

A synopsis for the show reads: “Carey has invited a special lineup of guest superstars including Tiffany Haddish, Billy Eichner, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland, and Mykal-Michelle Harris, all to take part in this one-of-a-kind holiday event.

“Extra special appearances are also made by Carey’s twins, Moroccan and Monroe. Faced with a holiday cheer crisis, the North Pole knows there’s only one person who can save the day: Santa’s great friend, Mariah Carey. Combining musical performances, dynamic dancing and groundbreaking animation, the undisputed Queen of Christmas jumps into action to create a holiday spectacular to make the whole world merry.”

The TV special is set to be accompanied by a soundtrack album featuring a new version of Carey’s ‘Oh Santa!’ with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. The album, as with the TV special, will be released on December 4.

In anticipation of a Mariah-themed Christmas, a fan recently shared a new mash-up titled ‘For When The Christmas Bell Tolls’, a yuletide mash-up of Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and Metallica’s ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’.

Celebrate the Life of i_o with His Legacy Stream Tonight via Insomniac


Following the sudden and tragic news of i_o‘s passing, Insomniac is hosting a live stream in his honor.

It’s obvious, from the outpouring of messages, condolences, photos and memories shared that i_o, real name Garrett Lockhart, fka Fawks, left a lasting impact on the industry and seemingly everyone he came across.

“This Saturday we celebrate the life of [i_o],” Insomniac shares in the post below. “Come together with us for a special Legacy livestream, including his beautiful sets from [EDC Las Vegas] and [Virtual Rave-A-Thons].”

“We’ll miss you always, Garrett.”

Every time we hear “Castles In The Sky,” “Violence” with Grimes, “Annihilation” with Lights, “Low” or any other i_o production for that matter, we’re hearing greatness. It’s a bittersweet realization that this innovative talent is gone far too soon, but his music will live on.

Solomun continues album rollout with ‘Kreatur Der Nacht’ – Dancing Astronaut

With “Home” having previously hit the top spot on Beatport‘s Top 100 chart, Solomun now continues his album rollout with the Isolation Berlin-assisted “Kreatur Der Nacht.” The track, which translates to “Creatures of the Night,” is a unique blend of Solomun’s electronic stylings with Islolation Berlin’s post-punk sound, as Solomun explains:

“As a child of the ’80s, I had wanted to make a track with this special feeling for a long time, one which is playing with the punk and new wave appeal of that time. So I was very happy that the band ‘Isolation Berlin’ and I got together last year and the track “Kreatur der Nacht” was born.”

“Kreatur Der Nacht” is the second track released on Solomun’s NINL imprint, launched in October. The Bosnian-German’s forthcoming record, to be released via NINL, will drop in full in May 2021. The single’s video was directed by Golden Globe and Cannes award-winning film director Faith Akin, who explained their inspirations for the video, stating,

“On the pursuit of distraction we become ‘Creatures of the Night’… Mladen and I grew up in the same hood at the same time. It must have been an incredibly creative area…although all I can remember is gang-land. Our mutual dreams from lightyears ago we express in this video, but also the desire for distraction in the here and now and the departure unto a possible, not all to distant future.

Mladen mixes his signature contemporary sound with the new wave of the early ’80s, [which] also shaped me. Artifacts of this culture repeatedly appear in my work; that’s why it was a huge gift for me to be able to have a go at this epic track, visually and narratively. It is the Solomun just the way I love and cherish him, who gave me the chance to personally express myself here.”

Listen to Kanye West’s new verse on SAINt JHN track ‘Smack DVD’


Kanye West has appeared on ‘Saint DVD’, a new track from Brooklyn rapper SAINt JHN – watch its video below.

Kanye’s most recent new music came in the form of October single ‘Nah Nah Nah’, and in the meantime he ran for President of the United States.

“Kanye did not approve this video,” a message reads on screen as the rapper begins his verse in the track. “This might be his first time watching it right now.”

The message continues throughout West’s verse: “Kanye if you’re watching please raise your right hand. Your part is almost over it was a great verse. Can I get some Yeezys in a color way for not a cult?”

“Could you talk to the mayor about Breonna Taylor?” Kanye raps in his verse, referencing the 26-year-old Black woman shot and killed by police officers raiding her Kentucky home with a “no-knock warrant” in March.

Kanye West’s wife Kim Kardashian recently revealed that the rapper’s 2010 track ‘Lost In The World’ was inspired by a poem that the rapper wrote to Kardashian before the pair began dating.

“Kanye couldn’t come up with some of the lyrics but then realised he had them in a poem he had written me that was my birthday card he gave me for my 30th birthday,” she wrote on Instagram. “He took the poem he wrote me and made it the song.”

‘Lost In The World’ features on Kanye’s acclaimed 2010 album ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, which celebrated its tenth anniversary this month.

In a new retrospective feature about the album, NME wrote: “Kanye’s personal legacy might be a sinking ship right now, but his musical legacy can rest easy on the shoulders of ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’.

“They say that time is the father of truth, and 10 years on, it’s obvious that Kanye’s fifth album is his most accomplished (regardless of the hypebeasts who swear ‘Yeezus’ is better).”

New Rapid COVID-19 Testing Kits Gives Hope for Return of Live Events


Rapid coronavirus (COVID-19) testing kits are hitting the market and they could change the way people test at home or before going out to public spaces, including concert venues.

Swallow Events is behind a new kit specially designed for the live events industry. This is first company to offer its rapid testing service to organizers in the UK and across the world. The process involves 15-minute “pop up” testing (99.68% specificity) done by government-approved healthcare professionals.

With the ability to test for COVID-19 on site, with results in just minutes, comes the possibility of large-scale events returning once again. The major turn-off for smaller events being cost, as testing kits start at £13 a pop with a minimum 100 units.

Founder and Managing Director of Swallow Events, Oli Thomas, calls the testing kit a “game changer.”

His full statement reads:

The events industry has been forgotten and devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although a common misconception, events have actually been allowed to take place in the UK in 2020. The guidelines regarding them, however, are unclear, with the ultimate decision often based on a single person’s opinion at local authority level.

There are instances of events receiving approval and licences granted, only for them then to be revoked at the last minute, which only serves to further fuel financial problems and job losses to the industry. With this in mind we are very proud to announce we are the first events company in the UK to offer an on-site rapid testing service for COVID-19 in as little as 15 minutes, which, we believe, is a complete game changer.

Headhunterz Shares Preview of Upcoming Official Remix of Illenium’s “Paper Thin”

Illenium‘s “Paper Thin” remix pack is set to grow stronger with the addition of a forthcoming new spin from Headhunterz. 

The hardstyle tastemaker took to Twitter to share the news and a brief preview, which has our anticipation built up high for release day. 

While the teaser denies us the satisfaction of a stampeding hardstyle drop (for now), all indicators say Headhunterz is injecting some dark contrast into Illenium’s melodic dubstep original.

Headhunterz knows how to build up for a big entrance, riffing on Illenium’s melodic groundwork with a series of siren-like synths as the song builds. Tom DeLonge‘s vocals echo omnipresently in the background as the song melts into an abrupt cutoff, leaving us on edge. Headhunterz’s remix is out this coming Monday, November 30th.

Ophelia Records’ Amidy connects with HALIENE on dreamy debut collaboration, ‘Already Home’ – Dancing Astronaut

Amidy and HALIENE have combined forces for a vocal melodic anthem “Already Home,” released via Ophelia Records. Noah Atkins, the creator of AMIDY, posses the rare ability to produce, sing, and write his own music, and previously showcased this triple-threat capacity on his 2017 EP, Lost Home. In recent months, Atkins has also been featured as a vocalist on William Black‘s “Daydreamer” and “Closer Than You,” which arrived in February 2018 and October 2020, respectively.

The rising producer’s new track, “Already Home,” directly transpires from his 2018 remix of HALIENE’s “Dream In Color.” On “Already Home,” Amidy forms enchanting atmospheres over the mid-tempo format. HALIENE’s euphoric vocals provide an uplifting contrast to the single’s driving, cinematic bass, making for a debut collaboration that warrants a stream. Find it below.

Listen to Eddie Van Halen cover Jimi Hendrix in new unearthed demo


A new Jimi Hendrix cover by Eddie Van Halen has been unearthed – listen below.

The version of ‘Axis: Bold As Love’ track ‘If 6 Was 9’ has been dug up and remastered by keyboardist David Garfield, and appears on his new EP ‘Guitar Heros OTB, Vol. 1.’.

Van Halen died last month following a battle with throat cancer, and Garfield spoke to Guitar World about how the new cover came about.

According to Garfield, he and Van Halen met at a cigar bar and Garfield asked the late guitarist if he wanted to contribute to a tribute he was putting together for Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro, with Van Halen responding with a “resounding yes”.

“I went up to his house to work on the tracks with him, and he was so cool,” Garfield said of the experience. “We bonded as keyboard players, too. … We continued to stay in touch, and often he would call me out of the blue, asking for help with keyboard related stuff. I even found a guy to travel with him on tour and play additional parts offstage, as well as be his keyboard tech.”

Speaking of Van Halen’s death, he added: “I’m sure sorry we lost him way too soon; I was hoping to collaborate with him again. Rest in peace, my brother Ed.”

Wolfgang recently detailed his father’s battles with illness in the years leading up to his death.

Wolfgang recently revealed that, prior to the deterioration in his father’s health, plans were in place for a “classic line-up” Van Halen reunion tour, which the band’s manager Irving Azoff discussed last month.

Earlier this month, Slash, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, and Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello honoured Van Halen at this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
