Suge Knight says he won’t testify against anyone in Tupac murder case

Suge Knight has commented on the recent arrest of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the alleged accomplice in the murder of hip-hop legend Tupac.

On September 13, 1996, Tupac Shakur died at the age of 25 after being shot on September 7. He and Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight were driving from the Mike Tyson vs Bruce Seldon boxing match at the MGM Grand to a nightclub when the ‘I Get Around’ rapper was shot. Last month, Keefe D was arrested in connection to the murder, having allegedly obtained the gun used “for the purpose of seeking retribution against Tupac.”

In a recent interview with TMZ, Knight was asked about his thoughts on Keefe D’s arrest, to which replied that he was “surprised”.

“I never thought Keefe D would get arrested,” he said. “Nor do I want to see him get arrested.”

He continued: “We’re under a circumstance if he had involvement in anything, if he didn’t have involvement in anything. I wouldn’t wish somebody going to prison on my worst enemy.”

When asked if he’d testify in any eventual trial, Knight said that he believed he wouldn’t be called to do so.

“I wouldn’t be on the stand to testify for somebody, for what?” he said. “One thousand per cent. I wouldn’t go. I wouldn’t testify. None of that shit.”

TMZ founder Harvey Levin asked the 58-year-old if it was Davis’ late nephew Orlando Anderson who shot Tupac after being beaten up for Tupac and his team hours before. Knight negated that, telling him: “I never had nothing bad to say about Orlando because he wasn’t the shooter.”

Suge also rejected the theory that Davis knew about Anderson’s revenge plot, answering with a blunt “no.”

According to TMZ, Knight and Keefe D are the only two people involved in the incident who are still alive. Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in California after a fatal hit-and-run in 2015.

After Davis’ arrest, Shakur’s sister Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur shared in a written note that while she’s holding back judgment “until all the facts and legal proceedings are complete”.

Longtime friend of Tupac, Jada Pinkett Smith also wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Now I hope we can get some answers and have some closure. R.I.P Pac.”

Skepta shares tribute to Amy Winehouse on ‘Can’t Play Myself’

Skepta has paid homage to Amy Winehouse with his new single ‘Can’t Play Myself (A Tribute To Amy)’ – listen to it below.

The Mercury Prize-winning rapper and producer released the atmospheric house track today (October 13) via Más Tiempo/Island. He’d teased the song during various sets over the summer, including at his show at Glastonbury.

Clocking in at just over three minutes, the pulsating ‘Can’t Play Myself…’ contains vocal samples from Winehouse’s 2007 single ‘Tears Dry On Their Own’, which features on her classic album ‘Back To Black’ (2006).

The sample was cleared by the Amy Winehouse Foundation, according to a press release. Tune in here:

Skepta launched his house music label Más Tiempo with Jammer at a special event at Koko in Camden Town, London back in April.

His fifth and most recent studio album, ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’, came out in 2019. Skepta has since shared numerous Más Tiempo releases, and collaborated with the likes of Pop Smoke, A$AP Rocky and Slowthai.

Last month saw Winehouse’s friend and collaborator Mark Ronson pay tribute to the late singer on what would have been her 40th birthday. “We miss the Lioness so much,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, Winehouse’s live band announced details of a special London concert in her honour. The gig will be held at Koko in the star’s hometown of Camden on December 22, 2023.

In other news, Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil recently reflected on the couple’s past relationship. “It’s devastating she’s not here,” he said. “I think about her a lot.”

LSDREAM Kicks Off Journey to New Album With Wobbly 4-Track EP, "HEARTWAVE"

LSDREAM season has officially begun.

One day before his momentous doubleheader at Red Rocks, the bass music star revealed his next venture and gave fans the first taste of what’s to come. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), LSDREAM officially declared the start of his next “album journey” and dropped the first four tracks via a new EP, HEARTWAVE.

He kicks off with “RAD,” a collaboration with Joey Valence, Brae and Xotix with all the attributes of an LSDREAM classic. In-your-face hip-hop vocals give way to a bouncy beat filled to the brim with wobbly bass and kaleidoscopic textures. “LFG” (with GorillaT) brings the funk with stentorian brass hits, vinyl scratches and deep growls.

Continuing to spread positivity everywhere he goes, LSDREAM joined forces with Elephant Heart for “OPERATE,” which seeks to awaken our inner power. Slow and deliberate, the track’s bubbling bass contrasts its metallic sounds and empowering vocals to inspire and hype at the same time.

The most experimental of the bunch, the EP’s final track “ELASTIC” is the second collaboration with Xotix and also features Ruby Chase. The track’s sultry vocals introduce a lo-fi wobble that constantly transforms as its sticky refrain, “I’m feeling wavy man” echoes through.

Listen to HEARTWAVE below. LSDREAM has not confirmed a title or release date for his next album at the time of writing.

Bring Me The Horizon drop anthemic new single ‘DArkSide’

Bring Me The Horizon have shared a taster of their upcoming album by dropping the new anthemic single, ‘DArkSide’. Check it out below.

Released today (October 13), the track is taken from the band’s upcoming album ‘POST HUMAN: NeX Gen’, and arrives after Oli Sykes and co. recently pushed back the release date of the highly anticipated project.

News of the new track was first teased earlier this month, when the members sent out confirmation to fans who were signed to their official mailing list with the subject line: “Think my angels fallen…” along with the single’s artwork and title.

As the name suggests, the track carries a particularly gloomy theme throughout and sees the frontman tackle themes of insomnia, heartbreak and depression. That being said, the song is still hugely anthemic, and even seems to suggest a nod towards the Papa Roach classic ‘Last Resort’ with the lyric “Don’t give a fuck if my heart stops beating”.

I’m begging you to stay / My darkside won today / My heart keeps breaking / Over and over,” Sykes sings. “Don’t let me out your sight / Can’t trust myself tonight / My heart keeps breaking / Can you talk me off the ledge again?” Check out the lyric video below.

The new track also arrives following BMTH teasing some of their new work on social media. Recently, they posted a snippet of a song onto their Discord, leading to fans trying to figure out if it was a clip of the forthcoming song.

As previously mentioned, the band recently pushed back the release of their LP due to “unforeseen circumstances”, leaving the band “unable to complete the record to the standard we’d be happy with”.

A new release date for the album has not been released but Sykes promised fans it is “close”.

“I was hoping despite the setbacks we could pull it off in time for you guys but there’s still so many little details I want to be perfect and until it’s nailed I’m just not willing to give to you guys,” he said. “We can’t give it a new date just yet but just know it’s close… & I know you guys have been so patient but you just gotta be a lil more..”

Talking about the upcoming album with NME, the frontman confirmed that while he couldn’t share too much about the sound, it was primarily inspired by emo and hardcore.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a hyper-pop album, but I’ve definitely been inspired by that world. I admire how obnoxious, trashy and in your face that music feels, which is what I was drawn to when I got into emo, hardcore and screamo,” he explained.

“It’s not that we’ve lost that in our music, but as you become a bigger band, things do get more polished. I want to go the opposite way. Let’s be unhinged, let’s stop trying to make all the edges smooth.”

The band are set to embark on a UK and Ireland arena tour next year, as well as play at the star-studded 2024 edition of Sick New World. Find a full list of dates and remaining tickets here.

The Libertines share new single and announce ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’

The Libertines have returned with new single ‘Run Run Run’, as well as announcing details of their long-awaited fourth album ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ and some intimate Margate shows.

Arriving on March 8, ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ is the long-mooted follow-up to 2015’s ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’, with the first taster arriving in the form of launch single ‘Run Run Run’ – a classic yet subtly raucous Libs indie dancefloor anthem that sees them reflect on their standing after more than two decades, as Carl Barat begins: “It’s the lifelong project of a life on the lash”.

“It’s about being trapped, and trying to escape your dismal life, a bit like the man in Bukowski’s Post Office,” said Barat of the track. “The worst thing for The Libertines would be to get stuck in a ‘Run-run-run’ rut – constantly trying to relive our past.”

As well as sharing a name with Erich Maria Remarque’s anti-war novel, the album’s title is in honour of the band’s Margate hotel, studio, restaurant and bar, The Albion Rooms – which is also depicted on the sleeve with a dramatic cast of characters from the world of faded seaside glamour.

Consisting of 11 new tracks with songwriting credits shared among all four of the band, ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ was produced by Dimitri Tikovoï (The Horrors/Charli XCX/Becky Hill) and recorded at The Albion Rooms in just four weeks back in February and March of 2023, before being finished over a wee at La Ferme de Gestein Studios in Normandy. Additional production and mixing comes from Dan Grech-Marguerat (Lana Del Rey/Liam Gallagher/Paul McCartney).

Despite having been attempting work on writing the album for some years, the indie veterans have said that their previously reported sessions at Geejam in Port Antonio, Jamaica

saw Barat and Pete Doherty’s chemistry reform, before returning to Margate to reconvene with bassist John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell where, as Doherty explained, “we really came together as a band for “a moment of rare peace and unity, with all the members contributing.”

Doherty continued: “We’re over the moon, the ball is in the back of the net, and I’m chuffed for the lads!”

“I feel like we’ve completed a cycle of some kind as a band, and finally now we can add these songs to the setlist, because we’ve got some bangers in there. Now we’ve opened the hotel and used the studio ourselves and it’s all worked out – more Libertines records? I should hope so!”

Barat, meanwhile, added: “Our first record was born out of panic, and disbelief that we were actually allowed to be in a studio; the second was born of total strife and misery; the third was born of complexity; this one feels like we were all actually in the same place, at the same speed, and we really connected.”

The Libertines’ new album ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ is available on CD, deluxe CD, 12” vinyl in limited edition coloured variants, deluxe double vinyl cassette and digital download on March 8.

Fans who pre-order the album will be offered the chance to purchase tickets for ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade – described as “two days of special acoustic and electric live shows by The Libertines” at the 500-capacity Lido in Margate on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December. VIP after party tickets at the Albion Rooms and Justine’s nightclub, including full band DJ sets, will also be available.

The tracklist to ‘All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade’ is:

‘Run, Run, Run’
‘Mustang’
‘Have A Friend’
‘Merry Old England’
‘Man With The Melody’
‘Oh Shit’
‘Night Of The Hunter’
‘Baron’s Claw’
‘Shiver’
‘Be Young’
‘Songs They Never Play On The Radio’

Speaking to NME back in 2019, Doherty said that the band had been exploring a number of ambitious directions on new material, likening it to the diversity of The Clash‘s divisive ‘Sandinista’.

Drummer Gary Powell then told NME in August last year that the band were “not going to try and reinvent the wheel… but I think we can push the boat out a little more while still bringing something that has the same emotional integrity and dynamism that the audience craves when they come to a Libertines show.”

In the years since ‘Anthems For Doomed Youth’, Doherty has released the albums ‘Hamburg Demonstrations‘, ‘Peter Doherty & the Puta Madres’ and last year’s acclaimed ‘The Fantasy Life of Poetry & Crime‘ with Frédéric Lo.

A new documentary about his life Stranger In My Own Skin, made by director-musician and Doherty’s wife Katia deVidas, will hit cinemas on November 9.

Skrillex, Flowdan and Lil Baby Tip the Scoville Scale With Fiery Collaboration, "Pepper"

If music had a Scoville scale, Flowdan, Skrillex and Lil Baby’s new song would be its Carolina Reaper.

A filthy, post-dubstep blend of trap and grime, “Pepper” is a track that bites back. From a production standpoint, it twists the knife into the contemporary Skrillex sound, a heady latticework of frenetic vocal chops and bass stabs you can feel in your bones.

“Pepper” finds Skrillex reuniting with renowned MC Flowdan, whose spitfire flow is sonic sriracha alongside smoldering verses from chart-topping rapper Lil Baby. Take a listen to the new collaboration below.

A historic Madison Square Garden rave and an unprecedented five-hour set at Red Rocks are just two highlights of 2023, the most prolific year of Skrillex’s career.

The pioneering producer kicked off the year by dropping two new albums in as many days, Quest For Fire and Don’t Get Too Close, before teasing another pair. Those are also expected to drop in 2023, but he has not yet confirmed release dates or titles.

And if past is prologue, fans will hear plenty of new music in the weeks ahead. Skrillex recently premiered “Push,” a long-awaited collaboration with Hamdi and TAICHU, on Jyoty’s radio show. Fans were then gobsmacked at Lost Lands, where INFEKT played a never-before-heard Skrillex record that turned back the clock to the dubstep icon’s early work.

You can find “Pepper” on streaming platforms here.
