The Tim Bergling Foundation is once again firing up the nostalgia machine, promising to light up the night like a timeless Avicii drop on a summer festival stage.
The family of the late dance music icon, who tragically took his own life in 2018, launched “Together For A Better Day” to de-stigmatize mental health issues and raise awareness of suicide among young people. The inaugural concert in 2021 offered longtime fans a triumphant celebration of Avicii’s life and legacy in his hometown of Stockholm.
This year’s “Together For A Better Day” concert brings a multi-genre lineup and philharmonic orchestra to the enchanting Avicii Arena, the largest spherical building in the world, which was renamed after the influential producer in honor of his enduring impact. Fans can catch performances by Yung Lean, Griff, Thomas Stenström, Cherrie, Cleo and Dan Tyminski, the lattermost of whom featured on Avicii’s 2013 generational dance anthem “Hey Brother.”

The Tim Bergling Foundation, which actively advocates for the recognition of suicide as a global health crisis, announced the return of “Together For A Better Day” on World Mental Health Day.
“I hope we succeed in creating a feeling that we really do this together, because it is only together that we can make a difference,” said Avicii’s father, Klas Bergling, at the time of the first tribute concert. “Young people are our future and we must be afraid for them. It is unacceptable that they are getting worse and that suicide rates are rising in that group—and it is our duty to do what we can to break that trend.”
The 2023 edition of “Together For A Better Day” is scheduled for December 6th. The Tim Bergling Foundation will reveal more artists on the lineup in the weeks ahead.

The Kid Laroi has announced an upcoming collaboration with BTS’ Jungkook and Central Cee titled ‘Too Much’.
The Australian last released new music in April with the single ‘Where Does Your Spirit Go?’ and is expected to share his long-awaited debut album ‘The First Time’ in November.
‘Too Much’ will be released on October 20 and feature appearances from both the BTS star and the UK rapper. A teaser for the track was shared earlier today (October 11), which showed each artist nodding their head to a snippet of the song. “Was it too much?” they asked at the end of the clip. Watch the teaser below now.
The announcement followed The Kid Laroi teasing the single, hinting that he had worked with BTS’ Jungkook on the track. Last week, he shared a video of Central Cee tattooing the words “Too Much” on his leg. On Saturday (October 5), he shared a selfie taken on a plane with the caption: “Was it too much?” Seen beside him in the photo was a Funko Pop! figure of Jungkook.
The Kid Laroi also shared a photo of himself with the BTS singer, captioned, “Me & JK” alongside a series of emojis including the black arrow with “soon” written underneath. A link the post took you to a website for “Too Much Magazine”, which teased an announcement coming on October 10.
In March, the artist responded to Juice WRLD’s name being removed from the artwork for the pair’s joint cover of Kim Petras’ ‘Remind Me’. “I had NOTHING to do with this & had no idea it was a thing until now,” The Kid Laroi explained on Twitter at the time. “I’ve hit the label and asked them to change it back.. I’m sorry & genuinely have no clue why it was changed without my permission.”
Meanwhile, Jungkook is preparing to release his own debut solo album, ‘Golden’. The record will arrive on November 3 and will be followed later that month by the singer’s first solo concert in Seoul on November 20.
In the run-up to ‘Golden’, Jungkook has shared two singles – July’s UK garage-mining ‘Seven’, which featured an appearance from Latto, and last month’s Jack Harlow-featuring ‘3D’.
One of USC’s most famous alumni couldn’t resist dropping in during family weekend for a guest DJ set.
Will Ferrell graduated from USC in 1990 but has since returned in an official capacity to deliver the school’s commencement speech in 2017. Now, his return has rallied students once again, albeit in a much different capacity.
Ferrell hasn’t been known to grace the decks, but the “Old School” actor made like Frank The Tank and delivered some college hijinks that members of Sigma Alpha Mu are sure to remember. His celebrity DJ appearance took place ahead of USC’s high-stakes game against the Arizona Wildcats, which the former eventually won in a thrilling triple-overtime matchup.
Ferrell reportedly dropped in to visit his son Magnus, who is presently a student at the school. Sporting athletic shades, headphones and a backwards USC cap, Ferrell’s headlining moment was clipped and shared to TikTok, where it amassed several million views in short order. Check out some of the highlights from the epic party below.
Chung Ha has signed with Jay Park’s label, More Vision, seven months after leaving her previous agency.
The star was formerly signed to MNH Entertainment, but the company confirmed in March that she had decided not to renew her contract with it and would leave the stable in April.
Yesterday (October 10), More Vision announced that Chung Ha had joined its roster, sharing new images of the singer on its social media channels. “Welcome to MORE VISION, CHUNG HA!” it captioned the posts.
Chung Ha has also opened new social media accounts, as @CH_CHUN9HA on X/Twitter and @morechunghaplz on Instagram.
Following the expiration of her contract with MNH Entertainment, Chung Ha addressed the fate of her shelved album, ‘Bare & Rare Pt.2’. The record was intended to be the second half of her July 2022 studio album ‘Bare & Rare Pt.1’, but will no longer be released.
“After sharing the news that I wouldn’t be able to keep my promise regarding the release of ‘Bare & Rare Pt. 2,’ I didn’t know how to speak up to you all or from where I should begin conveying my apologetic heart, so after thinking lots, I am bringing it up like this now,” she told fans.
Chung Ha first came into the spotlight in 2016 after appearing in Produce 101 as an MNH Entertainment trainee, later debuting in the project girl group I.O.I. Following the group’s disbandment in 2017, Chung Ha dropped her first solo material and, in 2021, shared her debut album ‘Querencia’.
In a five-star review of that record, NME wrote: “The 25-year-old singer goes far beyond those hopes, producing a record that bursts with energy and excellence. If its title refers to a place where you can be your true self, then this album reflects its creator as a curious, confident and passionate artist whose songs help make the world feel that little bit bigger again.”
Chung Ha isn’t the only high-profile signing More Vision has made this year. In April, Jessi joined the agency after leaving Psy’s P Nation.
YEDM has been following SINES, or rather, its producer Jason Wann, since 2021. With a couple of wickedly-produced, synth-forward albums under the SINES name and a cheeky side project called Blood Oyster, it would be hard not to notice the splash Wann’s made in the electronica world, especially with his female-and-human rights focus. With all his work being quite female-focused and SINES always being intended as a duo, Wann considers Gravity to be said duo’s first album. Now that collaborator, vocalist and video director Kitty Richardson is on board as the other end of this SINE-wave, which reaches from Wann’s native Portland to Leeds in northern England, this duo is ready to wave in earnest.
Gravity is a concept album, modeled after the famous novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said by Philip K. Dick. The album takes Dick’s story a step farther by dropping the spaceman hero back onto Earth in 2023. The tracks within are meant to be his observations of the current culture, politics and reality itself. If that sounds trippy, wait until you hear the songs and see the videos. Created mostly on Wann’s impressive collection of vintage synths and programmers, the music is produced to hearken back to the golden age of synth pop, and it’s no coincidence that a strong nod to legendary new wave group The Human League can be heard here. The English band’s first demo, “The Taverner Tape,” was also inspired and influenced by Dick’s main character in the iconic novel. Creation begets “Fascination” begets creation, as the sine wave dictates.
One of the many interesting things about Wann and Richardson is that they’ve never met and created Gravity over a 6,000 mile distance via all our lovely modern technology. While Wann was looking for vocalists on the last pseudo-SINES album, A Series of Moments, he came across Richardson on the Vocalizr app. A composer, songwriter and visual artist of some note in her native UK, Richardson seemed to instantly understand the vibe Wann was going for and not only lent her bright, Kate Bush-meets-Sarah Brightman vocals to the single “Something In the Way” but directed the video for it.
Now, with Gravity, these two kindred musical souls are stronger together. They’ve melded their bold, visceral and slightly satirical styles to create an album that’s as multi-layered and charged as it is fun and danceable. They’re working at an alarming rate, as well. Since Gravity released in early September, the pair have been churning out multimedia pieces for each track, including visualizers for nearly all the tracks on the album, as well as two music videos directed by Richardson. Similar to their music, the pair have a lush, vintage-fueled style, borrowing clips from old, spacey movies and splicing them with original art and video. There’s more than meets both the eye and ear here than spacey vibes and Warholian nightmares, however, according to Richardson.
For me, the most exciting thing about Gravity is the fact that the whole “spaceman lost in space and then returning to earth” story is a perfect allegory for my experience with autism and trying to navigate the neurotypical world. I think my main goal for my music is to communicate to others a feeling that I’m unable to express using only words.
With this new debut, the music world is just beginning to see SINES in its final form, but Gravity is only the ground floor. With loads of creativity and a solid base, now SINES can really move the way they want and it should be a fun, synth-filled ride.
Gravity is out now and can be streamed on Spotify and purchased on Bandcamp. Check out the SINES YouTube for more visualizers and videos.
Apashe’s cinematic music video for “Human” lives up to the scale of his signature sound. Reuniting with “Majesty” collaborator Wasiu, he’s released a music video more suited for an Oscar than a Grammy.
“Am I an angel or a devil? I’m only human so I guess both,” Wasiu sings in the chorus. The rapper’s contemplation and epiphany are the crux of this dystopian, reality-bending music video.
Apashe and Wasiu begin as celebrity black knights in a timeline mirroring the present day or the near future. They launch into outer space on a shuttle amusingly named, “B3ZO5″—a cheeky nod to Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos—before their ship erupts into a ball of flames outside of Earth’s orbit and crashes onto a desert planet. Apashe emerges from the wreckage, stripping Wasiu of a Thanos-like gauntlet and leaving him to die.
The Belgian-Canadian DJ roams the planet until he is approached by a covenant of black druids, who he leads through the gauntlet’s power. The cinematic experience ends with Wasiu—remarkably still alive—leading a band of horseback warriors against Apashe’s forces.
Apashe and his bannerman are actively galloping across North America in support of his Antagonist tour and impending album of the same name. His unique blend of electronic and classical music is reinforced by an accompanying live brass orchestra.
Check out Apashe’s 2023 tour dates below and purchase tickets here.
Roger Waters reportedly told his audience to “fuck off” at a gig last weekend (October 8), prompting some fans to leave soon after.
The show took place at the London Palladium and at the start, Waters reportedly informed fans that it would be split into different parts. Many had turned up expecting Waters to play his new version of The Dark Side of the Moon from the opening.
Fans were surprised when instead, the early stages of the show saw Waters reading from his unpublished memoir, Dark Side Of The Moon: Memoirs Of A LankyPrick.
A report in Men’s Journal noted that Waters “arrived 15 minutes late for his scheduled performance” and “instead of launching into the hits, [he] began reading off of his laptop passages from his yet-to-be-published memoir.”
As the audience grew disgruntled with the start of the show, Rogers reportedly told the audience to “fuck off”. After that, some frustrated fans started to leave according to reports.

Fans on Reddit were split on the performance. Once said (via Loudwire): “So people got what they paid for, a performance of the ‘Redux’, and some bonus insight into the mind of the guy putting on the show as well as a few other songs, one of which being a new song performed in its entirety for the first time. Sounds like a good time to me, but to each their own,” one fan wrote.”
Whereas another wrote: “I don’t think it was announced beforehand that 50 percent of the show would be Roger reading from a laptop. I think it was perfectly reasonable to assume that it would be a full concert…But I think the audience had every right to be unhappy with the first half of the show. I know I would be.”
On X, formerly Twitter, another fan added: “went to watch Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon remake gig last night at London Palladium with Roger Waters and I simply have no words to describe it and not in a positive way. What an egocentric narcissist he is and to think I paid good money to watch him. Lesson learnt.”
NME has reached out to representatives of Waters for comment.
In other news, Waters has recently released a statement criticising a new documentary about him. The documentary, The Dark Side of Roger Waters, explores allegations of antisemitism against the Pink Floyd co-founder and was released last week by UK-based advocacy group Campaign Against Antisemitism.
Waters mentions that the filmmakers approached him for comment earlier this month but he declined. He responded to it later, however, in a lengthy post on his website.
“In summary, the film is a flimsy, unapologetic piece of propaganda that indiscriminately mixes things I’m alleged to have said or done at different times and in different contexts, in an effort to portray me as an anti-Semite, without any foundation in fact,” he wrote.
In June the US State Department criticised Waters over a show in Berlin, describing it as “deeply offensive to Jewish people”.
The month prior, Waters appeared on stage at his show wearing a black trench coat with a swastika-like emblem during a segment that revolved around a character from Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’, who imagines himself as a fictional fascist dictator during a hallucination.
The musician claimed that the segment was a statement against fascism, injustice and bigotry and called criticism of it “disingenuous and politically motivated”.
Waters has faced significant backlash following the show in Berlin. During a show on May 31 in Birmingham he went on a rant about how “pissed off” he was at “the antisemitism bullshit” surrounding him over the last month and claimed that critics are trying to cancel him “like they cancelled Jeremy Corbyn and Julian Assange”.
Waters has repeatedly denied all accusations of antisemitism.

Discover the secrets behind the viral sound of HBO Series The White Lotus with composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer.
Jungle sounds, hissing snakes, pan flutes, a roaring bass and chilling screams. If there is a soundtrack that captures the atmosphere of the series well (and also keeps ringing in your head for weeks), it is the score of The White Lotus, composed by Canadian Cristobal Tapia de Veer. He will appear as a keynote speaker at the BMIM x ADE Conference. The music not only plays a major role in the background in this hit series. The soundtrack of The White Lotus has one of the leading roles. The music creates the alienating and oppressive atmosphere, increases the tension and is supplemented where necessary by animal sounds. The soundtrack contributes relentlessly to the message of this dark and wry series.

The Future of Festivals TalkShow will be taking a helicopter view of what festivals are becoming and what they mean to us as a society. Examining the changing sociological makeup of the festival audience and changing audience demographics, we’ll be examining issues including what it means to reshape festivals beyond lineups towards unique community experiences, asking what the essential elements are and what really makes an event unique, as well as diving into what we do in the daytime, and what’s behind the growth of multi-generational events.
Taking the lid off the positive and negative impacts of technology, asking how much onsite technology you really need to keep your audience entertained and stay relevant, and posing the big question about virtual events: does anyone really want to stay at home but still be part of a festival? How do you make it an experience rather than a compromise? How do you fold a vast online audience into a live event and make them want to repeat the experience? Is it even possible?
Looking at the role and relevance of festivals, the TalkShow will be tackling how festival crowds are a reflection of society, and society’s attention span is shrinking. So how do you guarantee that you’ll be able to entertain the easily bored? The presence of brands and their money is also a central issue of the discussion about that money. While it is a great enabler for the live scene, too much ‘presence’ can be an audience turn-off. How do you strike the right balance, especially in these financially challenging times?
The TalkShow will also be looking at initiatives to guarantee a healthy future for large scale live events and the music industry. In Beyond the headliners! Should Festivals be helping and supporting young artists? we ask the big question, are there too many headliners and too few unknown quantities? And looking behind the curtain at the people who make these events tick we examine backstage life: How do you make sure there are enough new, young technicians being prepared for a life of set-building and stage rigging? Why are there so few specialist courses? Where do you go to get trained and educated in live skills?

Overmono Live
Location: Paradiso | Weteringschans 6-8, Amsterdam Date and time: Oct 19, 20:00 Lineup, Overmono, Nèna More information
Overmono can safely be called one of the most exciting electronic acts of the moment. The Welsh brothers originally went their separate musical ways – Tom making techno and Ed dubstep – but found each other in a shared frustration about the limitations of a solo career. The duo Overmono was born.
The brothers released their first work on their own label Poly Kicks, after that they started releasing a number of EPs on UK-based XL Recordings in 2020. Resident Advisor’s Track Of The Year award-winning ‘So U Kno’ marked a worldwide breakthrough. Debut album ‘Good Lies,’ released May 12, includes everything Overmono has been working on during the past few years: 12 equally euphoric and melancholy songs, influenced by American rap records but always filtered through the British prism in which they grew up. Amsterdam native Nèna will warm up the dance floor with an eclectic selection of bass, rolling techno, electronic percussion and more.

Ticketmaster have today (October 10) announced a new plan to allow fans to contribute directly to the Music Venue Trust (MVT) to help support UK grassroots venues.

Ticketmaster will now have a Music Venue Trust charity upsell option, enabling fans to make direct contributions to MVT when purchasing tickets. Music Venue Trust helps to support grassroots venues.
The upsell will launch on Venues Day 2023 (October 17), an initiative that’s been sponsored by Ticketmaster since 2016. The upsell will run for a month.
Additionally, Ticketmaster has committed to match all donations received and run this upsell yearly.
Mark Davyd, MVT Founder & CEO, said of the collaboration: “This upsell provides a practical method for fans to support grassroots music venues, and we are incredibly grateful to the Ticketmaster team for putting it in place. Ticketmaster matching all fan donations is a powerful message for the whole industry about the support our sector needs and the will of the music community to provide it.”
“Ticketmaster has been a long-term and committed partner of MVT, and their core support has been vital in developing us as the authentic voice of grassroots venues, artists and fans.”
BREAKING NEWS: Under the month-long initiative, anyone buying a ticket on @TicketmasterUK will be given the option to donate directly to the Music Venue Trust.
Speaking about the current state of the industry, Davyd added: “We believe that live music fans understand exactly how vital these venues are to the future of our whole music ecosystem and how much financial difficulty they are currently facing.”
“127 grassroots music venues have closed in the last 12 months – more than one is permanently closing every week.” He also continued his call for a collective effort from the government, the music industry, artists, and fans to prevent further closures and reverse the decline.
It comes as more artists have recently been pledging to help grassroots venues like Enter Shikari, who announced a new 2024 arena tour in support of Music Venue Trust. £1 from each ticket sale will be donated to the Music Venue Trust in each city the band will be touring through. The idea was spurred by the band’s incentive to give back to the local venues which continue to support them throughout their careers.
Halifax Piece Hall also announced a scheme to support grassroots music venues in Calderdale borough through MVT’s Pipeline Investment Fund (PIF). The Music Venue Trust (MVT) signed a groundbreaking agreement with The Piece Hall as well as promoters Cuffe and Taylor that will now give fans who attend concerts at the hall an option to add a donation to MVT when purchasing tickets through Ticketmaster.

All of the funds that are raised will go directly towards supporting grassroots music venues in Calderdale borough through MVT’s Pipeline Investment Fund (PIF). The Piece Hall has become the first major UK venue to provide fans with the option to support independent venues directly at the point of purchase.
The MVT, which represents almost 1,000 UK grassroots music venues, shared its 2022 annual report in January, laying out the value of the sector to both the UK economy and the music industry, as well as the grave danger that venues and UK face without urgent action. As it stands, the latest figures show audience numbers were at 89 per cent of their 2019 level, at about 21million.
Then in September, the Music Venue Trust revealed to NME that 67 venues have closed so far this year, with 90 currently working with MVT’s Emergency Response. Roughly half of those are likely to close in 2023 – giving a total of around 100 grassroots music being lost from the UK in 2023; that’s 10 per cent of the number of independent gig spaces in the country. MVT also penned an open letter to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt outlining the severity of the situation.
Without help, the UK is set to lose 10 per cent of its grassroots music venues in 2023. There have now been calls growing for the “major leagues” of the music industry and larger venues like arenas to do more to pay into the ecosystem and save them. Several organisations behind eight of these new arenas currently being built in the UK responded to NME earlier this year about MVTs concerns.
In addition to this, MVT recently announced the first acquisition under its public ownership scheme.
The #OwnOurVenues initiative was first announced in May, following the news that legendary gig spaces like North London’s Nambucca and Sheffield’s Leadmill were closing their doors or under threat, respectively.
Having been backed by Ed Sheeran, the scheme aims to secure the long-term futures of such venues by directly tackling the issue of ownership. The campaign has been likened to “The National Trust, but for venues”.
