Bob Dylan plays surprise set with The Heartbreakers at Farm Aid

Bob Dylan made a surprise appearance at Farm Aid last night (September 23), marking the first time he’d appeared at the charity concert since he helped to conceive it.

The annual event was founded by Willie Nelson and has taken place since 1985 and raises money to support family farmers in the US. The idea came about when, during his performance at Live Aid to raise money to help support farmers during the Ethiopian famine, Dylan wondered whether a similar event could be worked on to support American farmers. Although Dylan was criticised for this, Nelson thought the idea had potential and worked with Neil Young and John Mellencamp to start Farm Aid.

Dylan performed at the first two iterations of Farm Aid in 1985 and 1986 alongside Young and Mellencamp. However, this year’s concert marked his return.

Dylan was joined by the Heartbreakers for a three-song set, which included his first performance of ‘Maggie’s Farm’ for 14 years as well as ‘Positively 4th Street’ and ‘Ballad Of A Thin Man’

The set was streamed in full on YouTube – you can check it out below.

Last month, producer Michael Cash revealed that Dylan once gave Post Malone his unused lyrics to use in a song that never got completed.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Cash revealed that he had come up with the idea for a project during the COVID-19 pandemic that would have seen rappers form songs based on recently uncovered and unused lyrics from Bob Dylan.

Cash said the project would have been his own spin of the 2014 Bob Dylan-tribute record ‘Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes’, in which artists like Elvis Costello, Marcus Mumford, and Rhiannon Giddens recorded songs featuring unused Dylan lyrics.

Cash’s version of the project, which would have been called ‘The Attic MP3s’, ultimately never came to fruition, but would ideally have featured performances from Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Post Malone.

While the project never got released, Cash told said that some progress had been made as Dylan’s team green-lit Malone’s involvement in the record and that they had sent him lyrics to work with.

VASSY Lands On Spinnin' Records With Intoxicating Dance Anthem, "Krazy"

After taking home the EDMA Icon Award earlier this year, VASSY is looking to retain her icon status after releasing “Krazy.”

“Krazy” is VASSY at her very best. The intoxicating track showcases her talents as a bona fide dance music hitmaker as the summertime-fueled, four-on-the-floor anthem leaves nothing to be desired. With beautifully layered synths and hypnotic percussion, the track creates an atmosphere befit for summer days in Ibiza.

Take a listen to “Krazy,” out now on the iconic Spinnin’ Records, below.

VASSY’s career is star-studded with hits, from tracks like “Bad” (with David Guetta and Showtek) to “Secrets” (with Tiësto) and more recently “Pieces” alongside Bingo Players and Disco Fries. However, “Krazy” is an exciting step forward for the Australian powerhouse, allowing her brilliance to thrive away from the influence of male DJs.

With the new track, VASSY is proving that she “can deliver the same degree of hits while being a solo act,” she said in a press release.

“Since blowing up from anthems like ‘Bad’ with David Guetta and ‘Secrets’ with Tiësto, I faced a lot of pressure from the industry to deliver a certain sound and maximize my collaborations,” she explained. “However, I always stayed true to myself and did what was most authentic to who I am as an artist.”

Billie Eilish, Peter Gabriel and more plead for gun control in new video

Billie Eilish and Peter Gabriel and a host of musicians have appeared in a new video by a new music coalition to tackle gun violence.

Artist For Action To Prevent Gun Violence, which also features Sheryl Crow and Nile Rodgers, describes itself as a “non-political” organisation which asks Americans to volunteer and vote to eradicate gun violence in the country. The artists pledged themselves to the cause earlier this month.

“As much as I love the United States, I am always appalled at the ease with which anyone can get a weapon,” Gabriel says in the video.

The organisation is led by musician Mark Barden, whose son was one of the 26 people murdered in the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.

Barden also appears in the video and says: “Our mission, at Artists For Action is to build a coalition of musicians, artists, athletes, influencers of all kinds, to come together for the common cause of preventing gun violence.”

Various other artists who are part of the coalition are then shown pledging themselves to the cause.

Check it out below:

The coalition will be putting on a concert in December to celebrate the release of the film that directly led to its creation, A Father’s Promise, as well as one next summer at Central Park SummerStage around Gun Violence Awareness Month.

Elsewhere, Eilish recently brought her ‘Overheated’ climate change conference back to London for a day of panels and discussions.

This was the second time Eilish and her collaborators have hosted Overheated in the capital, after the platform debuted during the singer’s run of shows at The O2 in June 2022 – a move that saw one of the world’s most popular indoor concert venues go vegan during the artist’s residency.

Keith Richards says John Lennon and George Harrison would have fitted into The Rolling Stones

Keith Richards has said that John Lennon and George Harrison would have fitted into The  Rolling Stones in a new interview.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Richards opened up about The Beatles and the rivalry between the band’s fans in the sixties.

Richards explained: “I don’t think John Lennon would have had much problem fitting into the Stones, or George, if you can imagine that sort of thing happening.”

He continued: “We were the same generation, and we all loved the same music. When we first heard The Beatles, we were relieved that there was some other band in England on the same track that we were on. And within a few months, that track was the main track.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Richards opened up about Paul McCartney appearing on their upcoming new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’.

Speaking about McCartney’s appearance on album track ‘Bite My Head Off’ playing bass, Richards said: “Paul happened to be in town…And we couldn’t keep him away, bless his heart.

“And hey, if you can get one of the Beatles on your track, you know, you do it.”

He added: “Paul’s a very amiable cat to play with; we’ve been great friends forever.”

The band recently discussed the upcoming release – which will be their 24th LP – in a new discussion with The Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon, and showcased the live premiere of the lead single ‘Angry’.

At that, Jagger said of the album: “I don’t want to be big-headed but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it. We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves. We are quite pleased with it, we are not big-headed about it, but we hope you all like it.”

He also confirmed the new record has 12 tracks with two featuring late drummer Charlie Watts, and the band began working on the new songs at the end of 2022, with the aim of getting the album wrapped up by mid-2023.

“It is fun, it is where a band can come together, playing live is the other Holy Grail, but to record is where the guys can come together and pass around ideas without any interference. It’s a great place for a band to work it all out,” Richards, who fronts the track ‘Tell Me Straight’, added.

‘Hackney Diamonds’ was recorded in various locations including Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, London’s Metropolis Studios, Sanctuary Studios in the Bahamas, Electric Lady Studios and The Hit Factory/Germano Studios, in New York.

The Stones’ last album was a blues covers LP, ‘Blue & Lonesome‘ (2016).

Rome In Silver Embraces Personal Transformation in Stunning Debut Album, "Dragonfly"

Rome in Silver is embracing the growth that comes with change by virtue of his debut album, Dragonfly.

It’s been over eight years since Rome in Silver first broke onto the scene with his remix of Flume’s “Ezra,” and there’s been seemingly a lifetime of learned experience and reflection feeding into his debut longform project.

Culturally, the dragonfly is often considered a symbol of maturing through change and moving past prior personal limitations. The underlying meaning is emblematic of Rome in Silver’s own personal journey documented throughout the project.

Tracks like “I Don’t Wanna To Be Here” are reflective of the virtuosic producer’s struggles with fitting into a conventional mold, while “Return of Love” marks a welcome contrast, embracing themes of growth and transformation.

Stylistically, Dragonfly spans a breadth of creative wavelengths and tones. Rome in Silver didn’t hesitate to keep fans guessing while seamlessly flowing from the dreamy house sensibilities of tracks like “cloud9high” to the soulful vocals and trunk-thumping subs of the trap-inspired “Think About It.”

Overall, the album represents a cohesive demonstration of Rome in Silver’s versatility in a way that hasn’t yet been captured previously, and there’s no better time to get acquainted with than the present.

Take a listen to Dragonfly below and find the album on streaming platforms here.

Fans fly “Free Sky Ferreira” banner over Capitol Records in latest protest

Fans have flown a “Free Sky Ferreira” banner over the musician’s label at Capitol Records in another protest.

Last month, fans reportedly bought a billboard in Times Square to share a photo of the singer with the message “Free Sky Ferreira”, claiming that her music had been “held hostage” by her label Capitol Records “for almost a decade.”

Yesterday (September 23), that same fan-run campaign paid a plane to fly over Capitol Records with another banner. You can see the moment below:

Previously, Ferreira showed her support for the group by liking and commenting on their social media posts. In August, the musician shared the Times Square billboard post in an Instagram story with the caption “It’s true.”

The billboard appeared to have been organised by an Instagram fan account for the singer who has been campaigning for Ferreira’s release from her record label since March 2021. “Sky Ferreira has been held hostage by her label Capitol Records for almost a decade. They’ve been blocking the release of her sophomore album ‘Masochism’ since 2015,” reads a pinned post on the Instagram account.

Earlier this year, Ferreira addressed the struggles she’s facing with putting out new music and her reputation as a “difficult” artist.

She took to Instagram on January 14 to share a snippet of new music alongside the caption: “I want to put this out”. Posting on her story, she shared a clip of her performing the unreleased track during a soundcheck back in 2019. “Look at the date,” she wrote in the accompanying caption. “I tried to put out this song forever ago. This is not my fault and it’s not a conspiracy or whatever.”

She continued: “I am not a hysterical/lying/lazy lunatic. I can pull up performances from 2014 of unreleased singles too. This is beyond fucked up. I am so frustrated & over it.

“Being ‘difficult’ or ‘high strung’ doesn’t give people the right to damage & stall my career,” she wrote. “I am in a difficult situation & I have to be ‘difficult’ to get through it. I have to protect my work & myself somehow?

“A lot of it is not being allowed to say or do anything I want/need without it being dismissed. I can’t think of a time in the last 7 years where I’ve been able to just focus on what I’m supposed to do, despite having to basically sacrifice every aspect of my life to make sure it happens.

“It’s not okay. If I’m not allowed to say something without consequence & the people who are supposed to do their job refuse to look out for me… How am I not going to be ‘difficult’?!?”

In an interview with NME last year, the singer revealed that her highly anticipated second album was nearly done. “It’s basically done for the most part, it’s just that some parts need to be re-recorded, Just the finishing touches, really,” she said.

‘Masochism’ was first scheduled for release in 2015, and has been pushed back multiple times since. In October 2021, she said a release date for the album had been confirmed, teasing its arrival for March 2022.

The following month, she asserted that ‘Masochism’ was “actually coming out” in 2022, and back in January 2022, Ferreira’s mother re-confirmed that a March release was on the cards.

When the album wasn’t released in March, Ferreira told fans to hold off on their “wrath and death threats” until the following month. Ferreira’s highly anticipated LP, ‘Masochism’, is still yet to receive a formal release date.

Mick Jagger reminisces about “close friend” Charlie Watts

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has reminisced about his “close friend” Charlie Watts in a new interview.

Speaking to SiriusXM, Jagger remembered his long-term bandmate and friend Watts, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 80.

Jagger said: “I knew him since I was 19, and I hung out a lot with Charlie. He was one of my close friends.

“Charlie and I had a lot of interests outside of just playing in a band. We loved football and cricket. Charlie and I used to go to cricket together a lot.

“Charlie’s very knowledgeable about [football]. He used to play football hen he was a kid. He was pretty good. Much better than me. Charlie loved beautiful objects. He liked antiques, he liked furniture. So we talked a lot about things like that.”

Recently, it was revealed that the Stones’ upcoming new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ will feature two songs that they recorded with Charlie Watts.

The members discussed the upcoming release – which will be their 24th LP – in a new discussion with The Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon, and showcased the live premiere of the lead single ‘Angry’.

Taking place at the Hackney Empire in London earlier this month (September 6), surviving members Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood all shed some insight into the album, and explained how the band has changed since the death of longtime drummer, Charlie Watts.

“Ever since Charlie’s gone it’s different, of course. I mean, he’s number four. His missus is up there… Of course he’s missed. Incredibly,” Richards said, discussing the shift in dynamic since Watts died in August 2021. “But thanks to Charlie Watts also we have Steve Jordan who was Charlie’s recommendation for if anything should happen to him. [He told us,] ‘Steve Jordan’s your man’.”

“[Watt’s chose him] way, way back, and also he’s been a friend of ours. I’ve worked with Steve so it was a kind of natural progression,” he continued. “It would have been a lot harder without Charlie’s blessing on that, you know?”

When asked by Fallon whether or not the album will feature any contributions from Watts, frontman Mick Jagger revealed that while the majority of the tracklist was written at the end of 2022, two of the tracks were recorded back in 2019 and feature the musician.

“There’s 12 tracks on the album and most of them are Steve, but two are tracks we recorded in 2019 with Charlie. And so we used two of the tracks we recorded with Charlie before,” he said.

Wood also confirmed that these two songs appear back-to-back midway through the LP and are titled ‘Live By The Sword’ and ‘Mess It Up’.

Rave Me Away Introduces Innovative Festival Wristbands With Life-Saving RFID Technology

The global festival industry is forecasted to continue growing at an astonishing compounded rate of 28% through 2028, but with that growth comes a necessity to review the scalability of existing practices.

One such startup angling to revolutionize existing wristband technology is Rave Me Away. Recent festival tragedies have frequently tied back to failures with regard to crowd control and an inability for timely, life-saving aid to be rendered to attendees in distress. If widely adopted, Rave Me Away’s chip-based RFID technology would directly mitigate those risks from occurring at large-scale events.

The company’s “RaveMeAway Wristband” provides the wearer’s location information to emergency services and allows for the visualization of location data while they’re onsite at a festival. The wristband, which has been issued a provisional utility patent, also doubles as a “panic button” that enables attendees to communicate remotely when they are in distress.

View the original article to see embedded media.

The team behind Rave Me Away believes the innovations will allow for emergency services to significantly cut their response times. The accuracy of the location data will allow for proper aid to be provided sooner and mitigate the risk of loss of life.

Rave Me Away’s founder and CEO, Charles Hinnant, says the idea for the technology was born in the wake of the tragic Astroworld Festival crowd crush, which led to 10 fatalities.

“As someone who has always been an avid music festival-goer and had the unforgettable experience of attending Astroworld, I felt compelled to create this company,” Hinnant said in a statement provided to EDM.com. “My goal is to raise awareness and elevate health and safety measures at festivals and live events.”

You can find out more about Rave Me Away on the organization’s website.
