Noel Gallagher shares full stream of 2023 Manchester gig


Noel Gallagher‘s High Flying Birds have shared a full stream of their sold-out 2023 gig at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park.

The homecoming concert took place on August 26 and saw Gallagher and his band supported by Primal Scream and Future Islands.

Now, fans can stream the gig in full for £8.99 or £12.99 depending on the streaming quality.

Elsewhere, Gallagher recently revealed that he has recorded a secret dance track with CamelPhat that is waiting to be finished.

CamelPhat DJ and producer Dave Whelan confirmed to The Daily Star‘s ‘Wired’ column [via MusicNews] that the dance duo have teamed up again with the High Flying Birds bandleader for a song. They previously worked with the former Oasis star on their 2020 track ‘Not Over Yet’.

The singer released his most recent High Flying Birds album, ‘Council Skies’, earlier this year.

Reviewing the album, NME said: “Informed by his upbringing in Manchester – but recorded in his swanky new studio in London – ‘Council Skies’ is as satisfying a record as anyone could hope for from a Gallagher in 2023.

“There’s little resemblance to the lumpy lad-rock that he and his brother Liam turned to when it all started to sour, but lush ballads and purposeful choices that move the sound on even if the instantly-recognisable voice remains a constant.”

In Oasis news, the band are set to release new formats of ‘The Masterplan’ to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album.

See Tomorrowland Through the Eyes of a Ukrainian War Refugee in New Amazon Documentary

It’s not a stretch to say that the future of electronic dance music is annually channeled through the iconic Tomorrowland festival, which once again served as a seedbed of the culture in 2023.

The unbridled euphoria of this year’s festival has now been crystallized for fans by virtue of a new documentary, We Are Tomorrow. Out now via Amazon Music, the short film “provides an in-depth look into the magic, music and global community that defines Tomorrowland,” per a press release shared with EDM.com.

Tomorrowland’s organizers hosted 400,000 fans from over 200 different countries in 2023. We Are Tomorrow zeroes in on just a handful of those people, including Brazilian dance music superstar Alok and two Ukrainian refugees attending the festival.

One of those refugees, Veronika, was forced to flee her home of Kharkiv after the city was bombed by Russian military forces, leading to the deaths of hundreds of civilians. She’s now living with a host family in Belgium as the Russo-Ukrainian war rages on, rebuilding her life alongside a fellow escapee and EDM admirer, Mykola, according to Tomorrowland.

“Music for me, it’s energy. It’s freedom,” Veronika said. “It’s something that gives you strength to move on. Tomorrowland is like a fairytale. It’s like another world where I can forget about all problems and recharge my energy and strength to move on.”

Bugzy Malone became “quite insecure with my position as a rapper and as a person” after quad bike crash


Bugzy Malone has revealed that he became “quite insecure with my position as a rapper and as a person” after his quad bike crash.

In 2020, the UK rapper – whose real name is Aaron Davis – was riding a quad bike in Manchester and crashed into an Audi. As a result, he subsequently suffered a brain bleed. Police released a statement at the time confirming that his injuries were “not believed to be life-threatening.” However, Malone revealed that he was “unconscious” and “sustained serious injuries”.

He released his second LP ‘The Resurrection’ the following year and has since said that he was unhappy with the way the album came out due to him feeling “really quite insecure”.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column, the rapper said: “’The Resurrection’ is not that good. I was really quite insecure with my position in the game as a rapper and as a person.”

He continued: “I put a lot of my identity into being a guy that could look after myself, so when I was smashed to bits I didn’t know how to react. It took me a while to get my confidence back. But now I’ve made something serious.”

Since then, he has been able to regain the confidence he once had and has become proud of the new music he is working on that is slated to be released.

“You get people that haven’t yet become positive or understand the effect of positivity in life which is why I talk about being inspired, it’s a mind-set,” he told the publication.

Speaking at a  launch party for his new fragrance “House Of Vision” he added: “Because I’ve done well for myself people think I’m superhuman but I’m not. I just try to focus on doing better than what I’ve done before.”

Study Reveals David Guetta's "Titanium" as the EDM Track With the Most Lyric Searches

A new study conducted by Word List Finder has revealed the electronic dance music songs that garner the most lyric searches.

The study examined Google search results from January 2019 to July 2023 and broke down which tracks had the most searches for their lyrics across a number of genres. With regards to the EDM category, David Guetta and Sia’s 2011 generational dance hit “Titanium” came out on top.

The rest of the top five consists of “We Found Love” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna; “Closer” by The Chainsmokers and Halsey; “Lean On” by Major Lazer, DJ Snake and MØ; and “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi, Ratatat and MGMT.

The study also broke down the “most associated genre searches by state” and found that 13 states—including Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and Oregon—were the leaders for EDM lyric searches.

The study also researched the top lyric searches for songs from many other genres. Dolly Parton “Jolene” led the country realm while Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” was named the most-searched hip-hop track. Meanwhie, Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” was the metal leader and alt-J’s “Breezeblocks” topped the indie category.

The most-searched track across all genres? That distinction went to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” with the Eagles’ “Hotel California” finishing in second.

FKA Twigs and Shia LeBeouf trial date delayed


FKA Twigs‘ lawsuit against Shia LeBeouf, whom she used to date, has been pushed back to a later date in 2024.

In 2020, the musician – real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett – filed a lawsuit against the actor, accusing him of “relentless abuse” during their former relationship, including sexual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress.

As reported by Pitchfork, the trial was originally set for a date in November but on Tuesday, August 29, both parties agreed to a continuance, postponing the trial to Monday, October 14, 2024.

According to notes from the filing, the trial has been postponed various times due to conflicts within FKA Twigs’ schedule and LeBeouf’s “entertainment projects.” It was also noted that one of Twigs’ lawyers would have been on maternity leave during November 2023.

The lawsuit against LeBeouf alleges that he was repeatedly abusive, citing a trip that the pair took in 2019 while they were dating. According to an article posted by The New York Times, on the way back from the trip, the lawsuit alleges LaBeouf was driving a car recklessly with Twigs in the passenger seat, removed his seatbelt and threatened to crash the car unless she professed her love for him.

It also claims that after Twigs begged to be let out of the car, the two pulled over at a gas station and she removed her bags. Afterwards, LaBeouf allegedly followed and physically assaulted her before forcing her back into the car.

Speaking to The New York Times, Twigs said that in a relationship lasting just over a year LaBeouf abused her physically, emotionally and mentally a number of times.

“I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency. What I went through with Shia was the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life,” Twigs said. “I don’t think people would ever think that it would happen to me. But I think that’s the thing. It can happen to anybody.”

In an email to the newspaper, LaBeouf responded to Twigs’ claims as well as those of another former girlfriend Karolyn Pho who has also accused him of abusive behaviour.

“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behaviour made them feel,” LaBeouf said. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalisations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can say.

He added that “many of these allegations are not true”, but said that he owed the women “the opportunity to air their statements publicly and accept accountability for those things I have done”.

We anticipate being knocked to the floor by her sultry yet elevated techno beats.

Krist Novoselic on 30 years of ‘In Utero’ and using AI to restore Nirvana music


Nirvana‘s Krist Novoselic has spoken to NME about the 30th anniversary of their seminal album ‘In Utero’ – as well as the potential of using AI to complete and restore old music, and the chances of the surviving members dropping new material.

Released 30 years ago today (September 21), the grunge icons’ third album would go on to be their last, with frontman Kurt Cobain taking his own life just five months later. Produced by Steve Albini and containing the singles ‘Heart-Shaped Box’, ‘All Apologies’ and ‘Rape Me’, the record proved highly influential as a merciless and uncompromising response to the phenomenal success of predecessor ‘Nevermind‘.

“When you listen to it, it goes somewhere,” Novoselic told NME of the album’s enduring legacy. “It’s dark, it’s beautiful, it’s all points in between.”

“It’s bittersweet. We recorded it in about a week and a few of the songs were the first take. We were well-rehearsed and loved playing together. That was our glue as a band. We played live and it was live to tape.”

He continued: “It’s amazing what can happen when three people with instruments get together. You could make so much sound in a way that captures the imagination. That’s the beauty of music: you invite people in. The record can be pretty, but it can also be dark. Going back to this record, I was just reminded of our humanity as a group. There were a lot of different statements on there and that’s what you get: the post-’Nevermind’ Nirvana, after becoming a world-famous band.”

Speaking to NME earlier this year, Albini spoke of how he was more of an “engineer” than a producer to Nirvana, and recalled how Cobain came to him as a vocal admirer of his work with previous band, Big Black.

Recalling working with the producer and how the band landed on the post-‘Nevermind’ sound of the record, Novoselic said: “Kurt was a fan of Albini. I remember being in a tour van in 1989 and Kurt was listening to Pixies. He raised his finger and said, ‘This shall be our snare sound!’ He wanted to do it with Steve for a long time.

“There’s that whole thing where you get famous and you have to transition into it. It was hard for everyone, but Kurt got all the attention, being up front there. I don’t comment on the lyrics as they’re open for interpretation, but you can listen and make up your own mind. ‘Radio Friendly Unit Shifter’ was a smart-ass statement that Kurt made, and really says it all. We signed a record contract and had all these expectations.”

He added: “What came after we made the record was the stuff of legend, but you just get back to the band. It’s a beautiful thing that someone invented this concept of drums, bass, guitar and vocals. This was our version of that.”

Announced earlier this month, the band shall soon be releasing a deluxe 30th anniversary reissue of ‘In Utero‘ – with three super deluxe editions that comprise a total of 72 tracks with 53 previously unreleased live tracks from some of the final live dates from Cobain, Novoselic, drummer Dave Grohl and guitarist Pat Smear.

“This one’s got a lot of cool things like backstage passes and little things you can hold, like The Who’s ‘Live At Leeds’ record,” said Novoselic. “I’m excited about the live shows on there, because they used AI. We took the digital audio tapes from the soundboard in Rome, Seattle and Los Angeles, then the AI can separate all the instruments and we got a really good mix out of it.”

Would Nirvana ever consider using AI for unreleased Nirvana material, just as The Beatles are set to on their upcoming “final track“?

“That’s a good idea! I’m glad I spoke with you today, because that’s interesting,” Novoselic replied. “I’m going to bring that up with Dave and Pat! I can hardly wait to hear a new Beatles song. Come on, it’s The Beatles! I want to hear a new Beatles song! And if AI helps it, then absolutely – that’s the way it is today.”

And are there any remaining unheard demos or sketches of Nirvana tracks that they could complete?

“I don’t know. We’ve got the start talking about this. That’s a good idea. There could be. There’s a point where it’s like, ‘Is this Nirvana on AI?’ There’s a lot of that stuff already on Youtube, and that’s a debate that’s going to have to be settled when it comes to copyright and disinformation. It’s like 2001: A Space Odyssey – ‘Don’t do it!’ ”

The bassist added: “Kurt’s not here in the present, so everything has got to be done right.”

Asked about the potential sound Nirvana may have explored on future records after ‘In Utero’ had Cobain not passed, Novoselic said he “could only guess”.

“I don’t know. We recorded our last song together ‘You Know You’re Right’, and that was Nirvana,” he said. “It had our whole thing as a jam then a crescendo that builds to come back down with a big chorus. It’s a really hard one to answer. Dave went on to do Foo Fighters, he’s successful and carrying the torch. I’ve got another band called Third Secret with Matt and Kim from Soundgarden – we’re kind of like the grunge ABBA.

“If only Kurt would have hung in there, then we would have known. Just to have him in the world would make a huge difference, and that’s all that really matters. I miss the guy, so I can only dream.”

While admitting that Nirvana may seem like “classic rock” 30 years on, Novoselic also noted their ability to continue to appeal to new generations of young rock fans.

“I think there was just something about Kurt Cobain and his intensity and the way he presented himself, along with the way that he sang and his vocal style,” he said. “I remember playing people the song ‘Milk It’, and they were like, ‘This is from another world’. It was so intense, and it stands up to any Scandinavian metal band. It would blow a lot of them away. The best way I can describe it is as a truly menacing song.

Novoselic went on: “People keep saying, ‘Nirvana saved my life’, and I get that, because I had it with the band Flipper. Once it just hit me and made a lot of sense.”

“I just want to remember Kurt and give him credit. When you make an artistic statement, you’re inviting people inside, and people keep on accepting. Each new generation is connecting with Nirvana, especially people who are maybe going through a rough patch.”

Novoselic, Grohl and Smear have reunited on a number of occasions since Cobain’s death – most notably at the 2014 Rock And Roll Of Fame where they performed Nirvana classics with the the likes of Lorde, St Vincent and Joan Jett for their induction, in 2012 when they performed and released a one-off track with Paul McCartney, a surprise cameo with Foo Fighters at Cal Jam 2018 and a now legendary club show in 2020 featuring Beck and Grohl’s daughter Violet.

Asked if he’d reunite with the surviving Nirvana members again, he replied: “I’d like to. I always love. There was a time after Kurt died when I said to myself, ‘I’m never going to play these songs again’. That was part of the grief I went through. We don’t want to overdo it, we try to make it special and be grateful.

“When the opportunity comes, we do it if it feels right. In the meantime, we just remember Kurt and do our thing.”

And would they ever release new music together?

“Yeah, we actually have some material. Dave already spilled the beans on that. I’m going to bug Dave about that! ‘Hey, what about those jams we did? What do you want to do with those?’

“Thank you for reminding me – that’s another good idea!”

Scream’s Kent Stax dies shortly LP announcement with Dave Grohl


Kent Stax, the original drummer for Scream, has died aged 61.

The news comes just one day after the hardcore punk band announced their first new album since 1993.

Stax’s death was announced yesterday (September 20) when bandmates Pete and Franz Stahl shared an update with fans and posted a heartfelt tribute to the musician.

“We are heartbroken to share that our drummer Bennett Kent Stacks passed away this morning after a bout with metastatic cancer. Kent is the original heartbeat of Scream. Though we have had to continue on without him before, we have always known Kent is irreplaceable,” the post reads.

“He was one of a kind. In addition to being a truly unique drummer, Kent was also an accomplished fisherman, skilled carpenter, and avid train enthusiast.”

They continued: “Kent also played in prominent punk and hardcore bands including The Suspects, Spitfires United, Alleged Bricks and more throughout his life. He also branched out to other genres, playing with The Daryl Davis Band and The Old Dominion Trio.

“He is survived by his wife of 40 years Andrea, daughter Jennifer, brothers Kurt, William and Henry and a host of bandmates, friends and fans. If you ever saw us play or if you knew Kent, your thoughts and memories are welcome here.”

The news of Stax’s death follows the band announcing details of a new album, which features a guest appearance from Dave Grohl, and will mark their first full-length album in 30 years.

Titled ‘DC Special’, the project is set for release on November 10 via Discord, and also features contributions from Minor Threat and Fugazi frontman Ian MacKaye, Joe Lally of Fugazi, Amy Pickering, Brian Baker of Bad Religion, and others.

Although it’s their first LP since 1993’s ‘Fumble’, the album also marks their first overall release since the 2011 EP ‘Complete Control Recording Sessions’.

The news of the album also led to Scream sharing its lead single ‘DC Special Sha La La’, which you can find above, and announcing a series of North American tour dates set to kick off next month. The band have not yet announced their plans to cancel or postpone the upcoming live shows.

Stax first joined Scream shortly after it formed in 1981 and the band soon went on to become established as one of the early pioneers of hardcore punk.

He performed on their first three albums before leaving the line-up in 1987. The musician was then replaced by a then-teenaged Grohl.

The drummer would later return to the band periodically in the late ‘00s and ‘10s, joining them for the aforementioned EP ‘Complete Control Recording Sessions’.
