Searows shares new single ‘I Have More Than Enough’ and announces EP ‘End Of The World’

Searows has shared his newest single ‘I Have More Than Enough’ from his forthcoming EP ‘End Of The World’.

Kentucky-born, Oregon-raised musician Searows – real name Alec Duckart – explained that the track was written in one day after feeling uninspired for a while.

“I wrote and recorded most of this song in one day after walking around outside for the first time in weeks,” he said in a press release. “I had spent so many days in a row alone in my room working on songs I felt increasingly uninspired by.”

He continued: “I was walking laps around my house, feeling very weird and then I remembered I could be doing the same thing outside so I took a walk around my neighbourhood. I sat with some cats and watched a crow for a while.

“I ended up stopping every few steps on my way home to write random thoughts down in my notes app and when I got back I wrote this song and then recorded it. It was one of the fastest songs I’ve written and still felt good about. Shockingly enough, going outside makes you feel less like you are going crazy.”

His EP, ‘End Of The World’, is set for release on November 10 via Last Recordings On Earth, a new label launched by Matt Maltese in association with Communion Records.

‘End Of The World’ track list is:

1. ‘Older’
2.’I Have More Than Enough’
3.’Collector’
4.’Funny’
5.’End Of The World’
6.’I Can And I Will’

Elsewhere, searows will be hitting the road as opening support for Gracie Abrams during the UK and EU leg of her ‘Good Riddance’ tour. Visit here for tickets and check out the full dates below.

Electric Zoo Organizers Facing Class Action Lawsuit After Contentious 2023 Festival

Two plaintiffs have filed a class action lawsuit against the organizers of Electric Zoo 2023, Rolling Stone reports.

Following the contentious cancellation of the electronic music festival’s opening day on Randall’s Island due to “global supply chain disruptions,” its third and final day was plagued by capacity concerns. After organizers released a midday statement announcing they were denying entry to the grounds, videos of ticket-holders storming the festival’s gates flooded social media.

Electric Zoo in 2022 was purchased by the investment group behind Brooklyn hotspot Avant Gardner for $15 million. In the wake of this year’s festival, the NYPD ultimately confirmed the consortium oversold passes by roughly 7,000.

Plaintiffs Nicole Brockmole and Lauren Bair, who reportedly filed the lawsuit Wednesday in a New York district court, were two of the thousands of pass-holders who were barred from entering the festival’s grounds. Citing “deceptive acts,” their suit seeks damages on behalf of “all affected patrons who paid for ticket(s) for access or entry to [Electric Zoo] were not granted access.”

“In addition to Friday’s cancellation, and perhaps more egregiously, things turned worse for Electric Zoo fans on Sunday when they were left to languish in heatwave for hours after being greeted by never ending lines to enter the festival and eventually denied entry because the venue was oversold and overcrowded,” the suit states, per Rolling Stone.

Roughly 88,000 people attended Electric Zoo in 2023, according to the NYPD. Organizers said they plan to issue full refunds to holders of the festival’s Friday ticket as well as those who were denied entry on Sunday.

Belle & Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch announces details of debut novel

Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch has announced details of his debut novel.

Described as “part memoir and part fiction,” Nobody’s Empire follows a lead character named Stephen with the same chronic fatigue syndrome as Murdoch himself. It will be released in September 2024.

“I drifted into writing Nobody’s Empire,” Murdoch said in a statement. “It felt like the right time to tell this story in long-form, even though I have been singing about it for years. I imagined I was writing it for the ME/CFS community and as the book went on it became more important to me, gaining a life of its own.

“I needed it as much as it needed me and I leant heavily on it for solace. Therefore, when it was picked up by Faber for publication, I was elated and very relieved. Hopefully, this is the start of a beautiful relationship!”

Earlier this year, Belle & Sebastian cancelled their American tour, citing Murdoch’s health.

The statement read: “Hi folks. It’s Stuart from Belle and Sebastian here. We are sorry to have to announce the cancellation of our North American tour for 2023.

“As you might be aware my health took a dive around November 2022. While I am hoping that I will improve over the coming months, we felt it would be a safer route to cancel this tour and leave a clear path to recovery, rather than take a risk and have to cancel at the last minute.

“We had a great plan in place, to release our second LP in six months and hit America up again! While the record made it out, we’re going to have to wait a bit longer until we can tour it. We apologise again for the inconvenience we have caused you. Sincerely yours, Stuart.”

At the start of 2023, the band announced details of a surprise new album, ‘Late Developers’, and shared the single ‘I Don’t Know What You See In Me’. It’s the Scottish indie veterans’ 12th studio album and was released on January 13.

Arriving just eight months after their last record ‘A Bit Of Previous’, Murdoch recently told NME that ‘Late Developers’ was born of the same sessions in the band’s native Glasgow in 2021. After plans for to record in Los Angeles were abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic, the group converted their rehearsal space into a COVID-safe makeshift studio. Murdoch explained how after the downtime of lockdown, he entered sessions for ‘A Bit of Previous’ “with about 30 songs”.

The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz announces R.E.M covers EP and shares ‘Shiny Happy People’

The Monkees’ Micky Dolenz has announced he will be releasing an EP of R.E.M covers, including a version of ‘Shiny Happy People’.

Dolenz, the sole surviving member of The Monkees, shared that the four-track EP will be titled ‘Dolenz Sings R.E.M’. Alongside ‘Shiny Happy People’, the other three songs will be ‘Radio Free Europe’, ‘Man on the Moon’ and ‘Leaving New York’.

According to an interview with Rolling Stone, the project came about as a result of a conversation Dolenz had with 7A Records co-owner Glenn Gretlund. “I was talking to Glenn about what to do next. The band R.E.M. came up. I went, ‘Wow, that’s very cool.’ I’m a big fan… And I’ve heard through the grapevine that the band were fans of The Monkees. I found that incredibly flattering,” Dolenz said.

While creating the EP, The Monkees frontman said he did not want it to feel like he was doing karaoke. “My first instinct was to go back and listen to all their songs,” he explained. “Fortunately, I caught myself. I said, ‘Wait a minute. I do not want to make a karaoke version of this music. If I listen to these songs over and over, it’ll be very difficult to not just do somebody else’s vocal.’ That was my overall approach. I didn’t listen before going to the studio.”

R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe shared his excitement for the covers EP. “These songs are absolutely incredible. Micky Dolenz covering R.E.M. Monkees style, I have died and gone to heaven,” Stipe said to Rolling Stone. “‘Shiny Happy People’ sounds incredible (never thought you or I would hear me say that!!!). Give it a spin. It’s wild… I am finally complete.”

‘Dolenz Sings R.E.M’ is set for release on November 3 via 7A Records. It will be available on a special yellow vinyl pressing. Pre-order the EP here.

‘Dolenz Sings R.E.M.’ track list is:
1. ‘Shiny Happy People’
2. ‘Radio Free Europe’
3. ‘Man on the Moon’
4. ‘Leaving New York’

Dolez has previously worked with R.E.M.’s guitarist Peter Buck. He co-wrote the title track for The Monkees’ final album, ‘Christmas Party’, and appeared on the record.

The World's First Streaming Platform Exclusively for AI-Generated Music is Where Dignity Goes to Die

In the ever-expanding circus of digital tech absurdities, the latest sideshow attraction is MUSIXY.ai, a streaming platform claiming to be the world’s first to exclusively feature AI-generated music.

Dripping in snake oil, MUSIXY.ai puts the “meh” in melody. By featuring dodgy tracks that are banned from other platforms, the company plans to become the “Spotify for AI hit songs,” according to a press release shared with EDM.com.

While MUSIXY.ai also claims to be “the world’s first AI music label,” its website paints a different picture. More a marketplace than a streaming hub, the site harkens back to the contentious HitPiece, the proprietors of whom were lambasted by the music industry for selling NFTs without artists’ knowledge or permission.

In the absence of a discernible music distribution infrastructure, the MUSIXY.ai website simply embeds YouTube videos containing AI-generated music, the legality of which is ambiguous. In fact, many of the videos appearing on the platform aren’t playable because the YouTube accounts behind them were terminated due to copyright violation.

However, the marketplace still offers subscribers a chance not only to purchase the rights to these Frankensteinian mashups, but also resell them for a profit. For example, a goofy AI cover of Adele’s “Hello” sung by a deepfake Kanye West is listed for 702€, or roughly $748. Users can “earn up to 600% overnight,” reads the MUSIXY.ai website.

“Anyone can use and monetize AI vocals of famous singers at will and for free if they are marked ‘unofficial’ to avoid confusion,” said MUSIXY.ai founder and CEO Can Ansay. “Thanks to the AI revolution and MUSIXY.ai, any talented producer in the world can now produce and monetize a hit song with any famous voice in any language, thus multiplying the probability of hit songs.”

Having been accused of exploiting the pandemic for its business opportunities, Ansay is a controversial figure. Despite a ban in Germany, his eHealth company offered civilians “dubious” coronavirus tests, Die Ziet reported. Ansay also launched an AI bot for personalized therapy options and “created free online COVID-19 self-test certificates,” according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Because of Covid, there are such great opportunities,” Ansay is quoted as saying in January 2022.

It’s worth noting that MUSIXY.ai includes a disclaimer at the bottom of its website. “All vocals and chatbots of famous people used are AI-generated and unofficial. The famous people are not affiliated with us in any way,” the disclaimer reads. “We do not accept any liability, especially for any damage caused by the chats due to wrong advice, especially in the fields of health, finance and politics.”

The Rolling Stones’ ‘Hackney Diamonds’ features Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Elton John and Stevie Wonder

The Rolling Stones have shared the full tracklist for their upcoming album ‘Hackney Diamonds’, and confirmed that the record will feature appearances from Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

The classic rock icons announced details of their forthcoming 24th studio record last week and shared its lead single ‘Angry’, which came with a music video starring Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney.

The new LP was announced at a globally live-streamed event from Hackney Empire in East London last Wednesday (September 6), hosted by The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. Here, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood shared details on the upcoming release, and confirmed it will be their first new music in 18 years – following on from 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’.

Now, the members have shared the full tracklist of the 12-song album, and confirmed that it will feature an array of guest stars, as well as tracks recorded with late drummer Charlie Watts.

Watts features on two of the songs in the listing – ‘Mess It Up’ and ‘Live By The Sword’. These appear back-to-back, midway through the album and the latter also features bass from former Stones bassist Bill Wyman.

Sir Elton John also performs on the latter track, playing piano for the song. He features on another track too, adding keys to ‘Get Close’ – the second song on the tracklist.

Lady Gaga contributes vocals to the penultimate song, titled ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’, and music icon Stevie Wonder also stars on the track, playing keys and piano.

Finally, former Beatle legend Paul McCartney joins forces with Mick Jagger and co. for the forthcoming album, and plays the bass in a song called ‘Bite My Head Off’. Check out the full tracklist below.

The full ‘Hackney Diamonds’ tracklist is:

‘Angry’
‘Get Close’
‘Depending On You’
‘Bite My Head Off’
‘Whole Wide World’
‘Dreamy Skies’
‘Mess It Up’
‘Live By The Sword’
‘Driving Me Too Hard’
‘Tell Me Straight’
‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven’
‘Rolling Stone Blues’

Set for release on October 20, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ was recorded in various locations including Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, London’s Metropolis Studios, Sanctuary Studios in the Bahamas, Electric Lady Studios and The Hit Factory/Germano Studios in New York.

“I don’t want to be big-headed but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it,” Jagger explained during the live-streamed conference last week. “We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, the band explained the meaning behind the album’s title and, more recently, the members confirmed that they have already begun work on a new album for after ‘Hackney Diamonds’. You can pre-order/pre-save the upcoming LP here.

Tributes paid to Probe Records boss Geoff Davies: “The gateway to enlightenment”

Tributes have been paid across the music industry for Probe Records boss Geoff Davies, following his death. He was aged 80.

The music mogul was most famed for co-founding the Probe Records shop back in 1971 with his former wife Annie, and soon became one of the most influential figures of Liverpool’s cultural scene.

He died on Tuesday morning (September 12) in Kingswood Mount Care Home, Allerton. Announcing his death, his second wife Anne revealed that Davies was diagnosed with dementia in 2019, and only moved into a care home at the end of April this year.

She also told The Liverpool Echo that her husband had had a spell in hospital before being relocated to the care home, and that she saw him deteriorate quickly having been further diagnosed with lymphoma, which was his cause of death.

The couple’s record shop was originally located on Clarence Street in 1971, before moving to Button Street in 1976. It was also close to Eric’s nightclub, leading to frequent visits from artists including Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Echo and the Bunnymen and The Teardrop Explodes.

Famous faces including Pete Burns and Julian Cope worked at the shop before making it big in their respective careers, and Davies was soon established as one of the most integral names in the local music scene.

In 2010, the shop moved to its current location on School Lane.

Following his passing, new wave band Deaf School took to social media to pay tribute to Davis, describing him as “a dear friend, not only to us, but to the entire musical collective on Merseyside”. Former Eric’s director Ken Testi also said the record label boss helped “build the raft” for other Merseyside creatives “to sail on”, and that the city’s “musical creativity and legacy” was built on his and Annie’s work (via BBC News).

As reported by The Liverpool Echo, Nigel Blackwell – frontman of Half Man Half Biscuit – also paid tribute to Davies. “OMD, Echo and the Bunnymen, Wah!, The Teardrop Explodes, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, The Farm, The La’s, Lightning Seeds, Boo Radleys, The Coral – magnificent bands all, and yet somehow Geoff missed each and every one of them and ended up with us. Poor blighter,” he wrote.

“Let it be said that without Geoff we would probably never have released our first record or indeed any record… He shall undoubtedly be missed by us all and suddenly ‘Life seems less sweet, Death less bitter.’”

Louder Than War founder John Robb also wrote a heartfelt tribute to Davies, which described him as a “key driving force in the Liverpool post punk scene.”

“Geoff (and Annie) was one of the true architects of the Liverpool music scene. One of those mavericks who seemed to live through every pop culture generation and facilitate the action,” the update read. ”Without Geoff, most of post-punk Liverpool probably would not have happened.”

Check out more tributes from across the entertainment world below.

So sad to hear about Geoff Davies from Probe passing away soon after his ex- partner Annie – they were giants of the Liverpool music scene – may they rest in peace
