New Electronic Music Festival to End With Magnificent Fireworks Show Over Tallest Mountain in Japan

Many festivals pull out all the stops to dazzle attendees with fireworks, but few can compare to what Capsule Festival has planned.

The organizers of the new Japanese electronic music festival plan to end its first day with a magnificent fireworks show over Mount Fuji, the tallest mountain in Japan. The showcase will launch approximately 10,000 rockets and include “shakudama,” a traditional firework shaped like a sphere, according to Capsule’s website.

Capsule Festival is set to take place on September 23rd and 24th at Yamanakako, the largest of Mount Fuji’s five lakes. The dazzling fireworks show is said to be coordinated by a group of Japan’s best pyrotechnicians.

Yamanakako Art Fireworks Executive Committee

Considering music festivals are rarely held at such unique locations, the legendary mountain is a one-of-a-kind backdrop. Ticket-holders can also purchase camping spots, sauna experiences and special spectator seats for the fireworks display on the 23rd.

The 2023 Capsule Festival boasts a lineup featuring a number of Japan’s top DJs, including Takkyu Ishino, DJ Krush, Drunken Kong and CYK, among others. Performances will be spread across two stages over two days.

Those interested in attending Capsule Festival can find tickets here. Two-day passes cost ¥10,000, or roughly $67.

Kanye West sues over music leaks on Instagram

Kanye West is suing an unknown Instagram user for allegedly leaking his music onto the social media platform.

According to legal documents seen by Billboard, West filed a lawsuit on Wednesday (September 6) over the unauthorised distribution of his music. The suit alleges the individual (or individuals) behind the popular account @DaUnreleasedGod_ has violated copyright laws by leaking various Ye tracks between March and August 2023. These songs include a collaboration with DJ Khaled, footage of a Donda listening party, as well as 20-plus songs, with titles including ‘We Did It Kid’, ‘Shy Can’t Look’, ‘NASDAQ’ and ‘Mr. Miyagi’.

West and his legal team haven’t identified the person or entity behind the account, but they believe it has someone who has previously worked with the rapper. If this were the case, the individual would have had to sign a confidentiality agreement to gain access to the unreleased music, which means that leaking the tracks would amount to a breach of contract.

According to reports, the suit will be amended to include the defendant’s name when they are identified.

“The Defendant, without authorization, license, or permission from Ye, improperly leaked, published and distributed multiple Listed Compositions including but not limited to the following found on ‘Instagram’ and ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter),” the suit reads. “… Ye’s musical composition, with its distinctive arrangement and unique elements, constitutes a trade secret due to its economic value, secrecy, and the efforts taken to safeguard it.”

The filing argues that the leaks caused “substantial harm” to Kanye’s “work, reputation, and potential income” and also alleges that he “suffered significant financial losses and damages” as a result.

West is reportedly seeking legal fees as well as a permanent order (or injunction) “enjoining and restraining Defendants and their agents, servants, employees, representatives, affiliated companies and other business entities, successors, assigns, and those acting in concert with them or at their direction, from further misappropriation, disclosure or unlawful use of the trade secret or confidential information in any manner or any right in and to the Listed Compositions, including without limitation by directly or indirectly reproducing, downloading, distributing, communicating to the public, uploading, linking to, transmitting, publicly performing, or otherwise exploiting in any manner the Listed Compositions.”

Meanwhile, West has shared a preview of a new song called ‘Israel’, in which he raps about meeting the devil. It has also been reported that the rapper was preparing to drop new music “imminently”.

RL Grime Drops House, Future Breaks and Garage Mix Inspired by Upcoming Album

An RL Grime mix outside of October? His new album must really be something.

The influential producer is currently gearing up for the release of his long-awaited third album, PLAY. Rather than a traditional tracklist, the record will be split into three distinct sections,  “APEX,” “GRID” and “RUSH,” which will each focus on a distinct component of his trademark sound.

The latter of the trio will see Grime dive into the sounds of house, future breaks, garage and techno as he ventures out of the trap, hip-hop and bass arena. In honor of this bold departure, he’s shared a new “RUSH” mix before the full album arrives later this month.

A stripped-back mix featuring nothing more than our star mixing inside a warehouse, Grime’s latest features the sounds of Jaime xx, Disclosure, salute, Sammy Virji, DJ Seinfeld and many more. In the video’s description, he calls these styles of music some of his “deepest musical inspirations.” Seeing as this is an album-inspired mix, fans can enjoy four of the seven tracks that will be included on the “RUSH” portion of PLAY.

Listen to “RUSH MIX 001” below. PLAY will hit the airwaves on Friday, September 15th, 2023. You can pre-save the upcoming album here.

Demi Lovato signs new management deal after parting ways with Scooter Braun

Demi Lovato has signed a new management deal after recently parting ways with former manager Scooter Braun.

The singer has joined Brandon Creed’s Good World Management, whose roster includes Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, Orville Peck and Troye Sivan, according to Billboard. He also previously managed Bruno Mars.

The deal arrives one week ahead of her forthcoming album ‘Revamped’, which will see her reimagine hits from her career as rock songs and feature artists including a revamped version of ‘Sorry Not Sorry (Rock Version)’ with Slash.

Two other tracks, ‘Heart Attack (Rock Version)’ and ‘Cool For The Summer (Rock Version)’ have previously been shared from the project.

It comes just weeks after reports said Lovato and Ariana Grande parted ways with Braun last month.

The news of Lovato ending her working relationship with Braun came from Variety, which reported that, although the reasons for the split are unknown, the separation was “amicable”.

A month earlier J Balvin, also left Braun’s management to join Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation.

Shortly after, Braun shared a jokey response to reports that a host of his artists were seeking new management, writing: “Breaking news… I’m no longer managing myself.”

Other clients of his include Justin Bieber, David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, Ava Max and Carly Rae Jepsen.

Braun first rose to fame in 2008 after helping launch the career of a then-12-year-old Bieber, after seeing him performing on YouTube, and has since gone on to represent him for 15 years. In recent years, however, Braun has faced controversy after apparently denying Taylor Swift her masters’ recordings.

The feud between the two began in 2019 when he bought her former record label Big Machine for $300 million (£227million) through his investment group Ithaca Holdings.

Last year it was reported that the mogul had regrets about how he handled the sale of Swift‘s master recordings.

Skrillex, Flowdan, Fred again.. and More Featured on "NBA 2K24" Soundtrack

The year’s hottest electronic track found its way into one of the biggest games of 2023.

Released right at the beginning of 2023 was “Rumble,” the hotly anticipated collaboration between Skrillex, Fred again.. and Flowdan. Since exploding in popularity last year after Fred’s breakout Boiler Room set, it became one of the most-played tracks across sets of many genres all year long.

Speaking of “most-played,” the next entry in the gigantic NBA 2K basketball series is about to arrive, and “Rumble” will be featured on the soundtrack alongside some of the biggest names in hip-hop.

Unlike the FIFA or F1 soundtracks, NBA 2K24 does not feature many selections for electronic fans outside of the trio’s smash hit. Players can build their team, face off with opponents online and relive historical moments from the careers of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and of course Shaquille O’Neal—or DJ Diesel in electronic music circles—to the sounds of Ice Spice, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Baby Keem, Lil Uzi Vert, Quavo, Takeoff, Future, Lil Baby and more.

NBA 2K24 is set to arrive on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X & S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on September 8th, 2023. Learn more about the basketball behemoth here and check out the playlist below.

Metric share new single ‘Who Would You Be For Me’ and announce intimate UK and EU shows

Metric have shared their new single ‘Who Would You Be For Me’ and announced a handful of intimate UK and EU gigs.

  • READ MORE: Metric – ‘Formentera’ review: indie icons approach life’s ups and downs with Balearic bliss

‘Who Would You Be For Me’ is the third single Metric – comprised of frontwoman Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist  Joshua Winstead and drummer Joules Scott-Key – have released from their forthcoming album ‘Formentera II’. It follows ‘Nothing Is Perfect‘ and ‘Just This Once‘.

Speaking of the track in a press release, Haines said: “‘Who Would You Be For Me’ is a throwback lullaby set in NYC in 2002. All the action takes place in Tompkins Square Park, in a subway car, and at the café on St. Marks Place where I worked as a waitress when we were getting our start.”

She continued: “Automatic behaviors and patterns are often fairly easy to flag in others, but can be a riddle to spot in yourself. In life and in love, all the emphasis in your mind can default to being what someone else wants until it dawns on you to consider your own desire. I could be the girl for you, but who would you be for me?”

The band are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut LP ‘Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?’. In it’s honour, they have re-issued the album on vinyl with new color variants such as neon violet, hot pink and tangerine. Visit here to purchase a copy.

Metric will be playing a handful of intimate shows in celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary. They will be making stops in London, Paris and Berlin after playing at some of their favourite clubs in the US. Check out a full list of dates below and visit here for tickets.

12 – The Roxy – Los Angeles, CA
14 – The Concert Hall – Toronto, ONT

19 – Etoile, Paris
21 – Privat Klub, Berlin

The band’s upcoming album ‘Formentera II’ is set for release on October 13 via Metric Music International/Thirty Tigers. Pre-order the LP here. It follows their 2022 album ‘Formentera’.

In a four-star review of their 2022 LP, NME‘s Rhian Daly shared: “‘Formentera’ is an exercise in trying to let go until it hits the title track. ‘What Feels Like Eternity’ grows in strength, its chorus adopting a tunnel vision approach as Haines narrates over zipping guitars: “Head down / Don’t look up / I grind along.” When chiming guitar melodies burst through towards its end, it feels like a breakthrough; like the battle to get through to better days is almost won.”

She continued: “The orchestral intro of the title track only reinforces that, bringing some stillness and calm after the tense and anxious storm. “Why not just let go?” Haines asks later. “The stakes are not my own / On Formentera beach / Why not walk away?

Guided by his signature phoenix insignia, the decade-long storyverse of ILLENIUM will soon come to life by virtue of a graphic novel, Starfall.

The music of ILLENIUM’s illustrious career has long been released in lockstep with a meticulous visual aesthetic. Spattered with blood-orange hues and luminous textures, the covers of all five of his albums comprise a cohesive latticework depicting his journey from lost soul to record-breaking music superstar.

The neon-splashed novel is a collaboration with renowned publisher Z2 Comics, with whom ILLENIUM developed a sci-fi saga to tell his “origin story.” Starfall focuses on its protagonist, Nick, a young warrior in a totalitarian society who meets a mysterious woman, Ash, to overcome the demons of his addictions.

“The chance to bring my origin story to life in graphic novel form has always been a dream of mine,” ILLENIUM, who also recently released an animated short film of the same name, said in a press release shared with EDM.com. “This will be unlike anything anyone has ever seen from me before.”
