Barkin Brings The Energy On Bass House Single ‘Kitty Club’

New-York based Producer Barkin is aiming to bring the heat back into House. His music is filled with intensity while being beautiful and groovy at the same time. Noticing the genre has lost some edge, his punchy basslines mixed with heavy synths will be setting dance floors ablaze. Vocals used as instruments and deep-moving breakdowns are integral to his tracks. While his drops will get your feet moving, each track has a meaning to be unfolded.

Now, he’s back with yet another impressive single, ‘Kitty Club.’ It’s a bass house offering that lights up your speakers from start to finish. On an even more interesting note, Barkin makes reference to each of his cats throughout, (Lulu, Borris, Betty Man, and Bella) – giving them a taste of the spotlight as the bass fuels the dance floor.

‘Kitty Club’ is easily the most fun track I have made. I loved being able to bring my cats into my passion and create something for all cat lovers alike. ‘Kitty Club’ is a special track that people always asked me about during my shows. I welcome everyone to the Kitty Club”Barkin

Lido Returns With Aching New Album, "ULTRAVIOLET"

For someone who said they may never produce another album, Lido has outdone himself with ULTRAVIOLET.

Similar to the transformative nature of his sound, ultraviolet light has the capacity to alter the way we perceive the world around us. That idea is at the bedrock of Lido’s new album, which seems like the outgrowth of a new perspective after he became an independent artist.

“This is my first time being independent since I was 15,” Lido, who had been signed to Universal Music Norway, shared on social media. “I really didn’t think I would make another album, but I have been given so much and this is my offering in return.”

ULTRAVIOLET is the prolific Norwegian producer’s first full-length album since 2020’s Peder. He’d been quiet ever since, only releasing one original track, the stunning “Live In Pretend,” last year. But if it’s any indication, the respite provided him with the creative recharge he needed to produce his best music in years.

Just as ultraviolet light has the dazzling yet mysterious power to create a profound impact on our senses, Lido’s innovative music has long evoked intense emotions. And in their own distinct ways, they each share the characteristic of radiance.

Look no further than “BUMPIN,” where warm, flanged percussive elements serenade an incandescent vocal performance from Dizzy Fae. Another highlight is “STILL DECIDING,” a collaboration with Choker, whose silky ad-libs float atop Lido’s aching production.

You can listen to ULTRAVIOLET below and find the new album on streaming platforms here.

Two Snow Patrol members leave amidst hints at band drama

Two members of Snow Patrol have departed the band amid hints at behind-the-scenes tension.

Last week, frontman Gary Lightbody announced in a post on Instagram that drummer Jonny Quinn and bassist Paul Wilson had “decided to leave Snow Patrol”.

He said he was “heartbroken” over the news, but told fans that the group would be continuing as a three-piece – comprising himself, Johnny McDaid and Nathan Connolly – before confirming that a new album is coming “next year”.

Lightbody also shared separate farewell messages for both Quinn and Wilson. Posting his own statement, the latter musician thanked fans and said he was “excited for the future and the future of Snow Patrol”.

As People reports, Quinn’s wife Mariane suggested that things were less than amicable between the band. “It’s been a fucker. Fucked by you know who,” she wrote in response to a comment in one of the goodbye posts.

The Belfast Telegraph, meanwhile, quoted a private social media post by Mariane in which she said the reasons for her husband’s departure “were not the best”. According to the outlet, she thanked Lightbody and Connolly in her statement but did not mention McDaid.

“I’m so incredibly proud of my husband and it’s with very mixed feelings Jonny is announcing his departure from the band,” she said. “So many amazing times, so many incredible people and experiences. I couldn’t have dreamt it.

“Sad the reason for leaving is not the best, but excited about what lies ahead.”

Later, Mariane reportedly shared a screenshot of comments from an unknown website showing her support for comments that referred to McDaid – who officially joined Snow Patrol in 2011 – as a “weird fan boy”.

The first comment read: “[If] I was in that band I’d be annoyed at that blow-in Johnny McDaid. Joined the band after they were already going 17 years, played no part in their breakthrough or really successful career. Yet now gets to trade on the Snow Patrol name.”

Another user wrote in response that McDaid “was a weird fan boy before that”, with a final comment reading: “And he managed to get a millionaire Friends girlfriend [Courtney Cox].”

Captioning the screenshot, Mariane said: “Yep.”

Quinn went to school with Lightbody, and he’s been in the band since 1997. Wilson officially joined the line-up in 2005 after playing with Snow Patrol for years as a touring member. McDaid also works as a songwriter and producer, and is Ed Sheeran‘s long-term co-writer.

Snow Patrol’s seventh and most recent studio album, ‘Wildness’, came out in 2018. Earlier this year, guitarist Nathan Connolly launched a solo career and released his first record ‘The Strange Order Of Things’.

Bruce Springsteen being treated for peptic ulcer disease symptoms, postpones all September shows

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced the cancellation of their September shows as Springsteen is being treated for illness.

Today (September 7), Springsteen took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to break the news, sharing a statement on the social media platform. “Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have postponed all performances currently scheduled for September 2023, beginning with tomorrow’s (September 8) show scheduled for the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, N.Y,” the statement begins.

The statement goes on to reveal that Springsteen is being treated for “symptoms of peptic ulcer disease” and that “the decision of his medical advisors is that he should postpone the remainder of his September shows.”

Springsteen added in his own statement: “Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows. First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

He went on to add: “We’ve been having a blast at our U.S. shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, peptic ulcers are open sores that develop on the inside lining of the stomach and the upper portion of your the intestine. In severe cases, it could lead to a disease that could lead to internal bleeding, a hole in the stomach wall, obstruction and even gastric cancer.

Springsteen last had to cancel his concerts in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18 over an unspecified illness at the time. A statement announcing those cancellations read: “Due to Bruce Springsteen having been taken ill, his concerts with The E Street Band at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on August 16 and 18 have been postponed,” the update read.

“We are working on rescheduling the dates so please hold on to your tickets as they will be valid for the rescheduled shows.”

While information on the rescheduled dates for his September shows have yet to be announced, Springsteen revealed to fans that they will soon receive news on new dates.

The current US tour he is embarking on began on February 1 in Florida, and marked the first time that Springsteen and the E Street Band have toured together since 2019. Following a run of UK, Ireland and EU dates – including a headlining stop at London’s BST Hyde Park – the musician returned for another US leg on August 9.

At the first of his US gigs this month, held at Wrigley Field in Chicago, The Boss used the final song on his 44-song setlist to pay tribute to The Band guitarist and singer-songwriter Robbie Robertson, whose death was announced earlier that day.

Springsteen’s BST Hyde Park performance scored a glowing five-star review from Rhys Buchanan for NME. Buchanan wrote: “A force of personality like no other, if Springsteen’s ultimate goal really is to change lives by night, then it’s mission accomplished here. Punctuated with lessons of life, love and loss, he’s hit another home run at Hyde Park.”

The Rolling Stones confirm new album ‘Hackney Diamonds’ and share single ‘Angry’

The Rolling Stones have officially announced their new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’ and shared details of new single ‘Angry’.

The veteran rockers’ 24th record, was confirmed in a press release to be their first of original music since 2005’s ‘A Bigger Bang’, earlier this week.

Band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood have now spoken about the new record, which was produced by Andrew Watt, on a livestream hosted from the Hackney Empire this afternoon (September 6) with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon host, Jimmy Fallon.

Early on during the event, Jagger joked that their very first press conference was in the early ’60 when they invited a NME journalist and Melody Maker writer to a pub in Denmark Street, buying them both a pint and handing them their album to “mixed reviews”.

Revealing the new album, Mick Jagger said: “We’re here to present our new single which is called ‘Angry’ and the new video. Our new album ‘Hackney Diamonds’ also comes out on October 20.”

You can view the video, which features Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, below.

Speaking about the call up for the video, Sweeney told Fallon: “I freaked out, called my family, and brought my mum. This is the biggest thing ever.”

She added: “I didn’t know it would be the first single… it’s stuck in my head.”

Jagger later said of the album: “I don’t want to be big-headed but we wouldn’t have put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it. We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves. We are quite pleased with it, we are not big-headed about it, but we hope you all like it.”

He also confirmed the new record has 12 tracks with two written by former drummer Charlie Watts, and the band began working on the new songs at the end of 2022, with the aim of getting the album wrapped up by mid-2023.

“It is fun, it is where a band can come together, playing live is the other Holy Grail, but to record is where the guys can come together and pass around ideas without any interference. It’s a great place for a band to work it all out,” Richards, who fronts the track ‘Tell Me Straight’, added.

‘Hackney Diamonds’ was recorded in various locations including Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles, London’s Metropolis Studios, Sanctuary Studios in the Bahamas, Electric Lady Studios and The Hit Factory/Germano Studios, in New York.

You can view the broadcast again below.

Last month it seemed that the new record had been announced via a cryptic advert in a local newspaper, while last week the band teased a worldwide “Hackney Diamonds” announcement with an augmented reality video clip and website.

They also teased a snippet of their new single, ‘Angry’, via a website called dontgetangrywithme.com.

“Hackney may be at the heart of Hackney Diamonds, but this is a truly global moment we want to share with fans around the world via YouTube,” The Rolling Stones said in a statement about the event.

The Stones’ last album was a blues covers LP, ‘Blue & Lonesome‘ (2016).

Meanwhile, frontman Mick Jagger recently celebrated his 80th birthday with Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Nile Rodgers all offering their best wishes.

The full tracklisting for ‘Hackney Diamonds’ is:

‘Angry’
‘Get Close’
‘Depending On You’
‘Bite My Head Off’
‘Whole Wide World’
‘Dreamy Skies’
‘Mess It Up’
‘Live By The Sword’
‘Driving Me Too Hard’
‘Tell Me Straight
‘Sweet Sound Of Heaven’
‘Rolling Stone Blues’

Gohma, Promising Dubstep Artist, Dead at 23

Gohma, a promising DJ and dubstep artist, has died at the age of 23.

The German producer, whose real name was Jonas Kern, burst onto the electronic music scene in 2017 after winning a remix contest hosted by “color bass” pioneer Chime. Kern’s death was revealed by Chime’s Rushdown Records, with whom he released music on multiple occasions.

“We are devastated to hear today that Gohma has passed – a producer that has worked with and inspired many of us here at Rushdown,” the label wrote. “We are so proud to have released ‘Power’ back in 2020 alongside his winning remix of ‘Wait For Me’ by Chime. His hyper fun take on dubstep was infectious and his contributions to bass music lives on in all of us touched by his music.”

Comments shared by Kern’s contemporaries on social media paint a picture of a precocious beatsmith who was beloved for his usage of Novation’s Launchpad hardware.

“This absolutely breaks my heart,” wrote Skybreak, a collaborator of the late producer. “Jonas was such a monumental figure in creating the life I live – and a kind, compassionate soul. Rest in peace.”

Ghoma’s last song, “Pharaoh,” released in February. 2019’s scintillating Bad Dreams EP, however, remains a fan-favorite.

We at EDM.com express our sincere condolences to the family, fans, friends and loved ones of Jonas Kern. His cause of death is not yet clear at the time of writing.

Travis Barker reveals “life-threatening” Kourtney Kardashian emergency

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has shared an update after he was forced to fly home from the band’s UK and Ireland tour – leading them to postpone a number of dates.

  • READ MORE: Blink-182 at Coachella 2023: the band’s surprise reunion set in five key moments

Last week saw the pop punk icons pull a run of UK and Ireland shows as they were due to kick off the tour in Glasgow, citing an “urgent family matter” that forced the drummer to return to the States. Upon his exit, he shared photos from Glasgow airport’s prayer room.

Now, after reports that his wife Kourtney Kardashian was out of hospital and “feeling better“, Barker has revealed that she underwent “life-threatening emergency surgery” for their unborn baby – and that their shows will continue at Antwerp in Belgium on Friday (September 8).

“God is great,” the drummer wrote on Twitter. “I flew home for a life-threatening emergency surgery for our baby that I’m so grateful went well. I want to say thank you for all the support. Tour resumes Friday.

Kardashian first revealed her pregnancy at a Blink show back in June, holding up a sign in reference to the band’s iconic ‘What’s My Age Again’ video.

The long-awaited shows were set to be the trio’s first UK and Ireland performances since Tom DeLonge returned to line-up. It remains unclear when rescheduled tour dates for the affected concerts will be announced, although it seems likely that these should be announced soon as the band have not yet provided any refund details for ticket holders.

All upcoming concerts in the UK across October – including two back-to-back nights at London’s O2 Arena – are set to take place as scheduled.

The announcement of the postponed UK and Ireland dates arrives following the frontman revealing that their upcoming album is “only weeks (days) away”. Currently, a firm release date for the LP has yet to be revealed, although DeLonge did recently tell fans that the upcoming project is set to be their “best album” yet.
