Steve Aoki Carries on Father's Legacy, Launches E1 Racing Team

Steve Aoki is going back to his roots to expand his burgeoning business portfolio.

The barnstorming DJ, who is currently gearing up to fly around the moon on SpaceX’s first civilian lunar mission, has officially launched his own E1 racing team to carry on his father’s legacy.

Aoki’s team will take to the waters of Jeddah Saudi Arabia in January to compete in the UIM E1 World Championship, the world’s first all-electric raceboat competition. He’ll lead a squad of drivers operating the league’s proprietary electric boats, “RaceBirds,” against some of the best E1 racers in the world.

“The UIM E1 World Championship not only offers me a chance to continue my father’s racing legacy on the water, but this time going electric!” Aoki said in a press release. “E1 is a great blend of adrenaline, sport, sustainability, and fun, and I can’t wait to develop our team to entertain fans with our racing and our parties, inspiring change and bringing people together. I’m proud to follow in my dad’s footsteps and I can’t wait to go full throttle on and off the water against the likes of Tom Brady, Rafael Nadal and Sergio Perez. I love creating outside of my usual spaces, so I’ll be seeing you all on the dockside as we electrify racing on the water.”

E1

Aoki is up against some tough competition, but motorsport racing is in his blood. His father Rocky, who founded the Benihana restaurant chain, was also an offshore powerboat racer in the ’70s and ’80s, according to E1. In 1979, he survived a “near-fatal crash” under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

E1 has already announced five racing teams, the first of which was Team Venice back in 2022. Various celebrities have signed up to compete, including Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez, tennis legend Rafael Nadal and future NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady.

E1’s inaugural season was postponed to 2024, but the league’s co-founders are headed to Rotterdam for the first time in an effort to spread awareness about the event and the motorsports community. More owners and information will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

FAQs

What is royalty free hip hop music?

Royalty free hip hop refers to instrumental hip hop beats that can be used in monetized content like videos, podcasts, and apps without having to pay ongoing royalties. A single flat fee license grants usage rights.

Why use royalty free vs. licensed hip hop beats?

Royalty free grants unlimited use after purchasing a license. Licensed music requires paying fees every time the content is played featuring that music. Royalty free is cheaper and easier for ongoing use.

Where can I find royalty free hip hop music?

Top sites like AudioJungle, Pond5, PremiumBeat, Epidemic Sound, Storyblocks, and Soundstripe offer a wide variety of royalty free hip hop beats at reasonable prices.

What should I look for in royalty free hip hop tracks?

Make sure tracks sound well-produced and professionally mastered. Check the licenses to confirm commercial and monetization rights. Look for exclusive beats not used everywhere.

How much does royalty free hip hop music cost?

Pricing varies but typically ranges from $1 for a simple license up to $50+ for more commercial rights. Unlimited subscriptions at around $10-15/month are the best value for power users.

Can I edit or remix the beats?

Check license terms. Most allow edits and remixes. Some prohibit changing the fundamental rhythm, melody, or structure. You own your new derivative work.

Can I use the music in monetized videos?

Yes, royalty free grants full rights to use the music in monetized content. Just ensure the license you purchase provides commercial/monetization rights.

Is royalty free hip hop really 100% copyright safe?

There is always some risk with any third-party content. But royalty free from reputable providers is designed for commercial use and rarely receives disputes.

What about using popular hip hop songs?

Using recognizable hip hop songs requires clearing sampled and licenses with all rights holders. Royalty free hip hop helps avoid this complex process.

Do I need to credit the artist?

Read the license terms. Most require stating the artist name and music source in the video description or credits.

Summary

Any of these recommended sources provide a wealth of royalty free hip hop music to legally amp up your projects. Compare catalogs and licensing to determine the best platform match for your needs.

The Armed’s Tony Wolski says band’s anonymity was never “a mystery to be solved”

The Armed frontman Tony Wolski has reflected on the group’s decision to remain anonymous for so long.

The Detroit collective’s secrecy surrounding their identities has been a significant part of their artistry, to the extent that they had even sent actors to masquerade as them in interviews.

However, in the run-up to their upcoming album ‘Perfect Saviors’, which is out tomorrow (August 25), the group has confirmed a full list of contributors to the album for the first time.

When asked why they have slowly revealed their real identities to the world for the first time, Wolski told NME that the group “never really anticipated” a time where their anonymity would be such a focus. He himself had used the alias Adam Vallely, after one of their fans.

The Armed, 2023. Credit: Nate Sturley.

“Art changes, just like society, or standards of language,” said Wolski. “We never really anticipated a moment in which having anonymity would actually make it more of a focus on the individual.

“Whilst I’m very happy with it, and I love all the content and concepts that have arised from it, it was never supposed to be a total mystery to be solved. It was just supposed to be an open ended thing that if you like The Armed that was it. As the collaboration has grown so huge, it seemed to make sense to now be like: we’re just gonna tell you what’s going on.”

Elsewhere, Wolski said he never felt that the group’s anonymity had swayed their fanbase, and that they had been received positively when they were recently out on the road with Queens Of The Stone Age. “We’re good at drawing people in, because I don’t think there’s a lot of stuff that looks like us. We got a couple of hecklers, but I think for the most part, we had people react really positively,” he reasoned.

In a four-star review of ‘Perfect Saviors’, NME wrote: “While their sound has become more accessible, it’s also as forward-thinking as we’ve come to expect of The Armed. They warp their influences and push them to the brink; beneath incredibly catchy hooks are complex layers of sound, giving each song unique scope and intensity. If their previous albums sounded like hardcore on steroids and deranged, this is the same for their brand of rock-and-roll.”

Knock2 brings ‘ROOM202’ full circle with remixes from Wolfgang Gartner, Mord Fustang – Dancing Astronaut

Knock2 explained that when he made ROOM202, the inspiration behind it was the early 2010s era of dance music that made him fall in love with the genre. Eight months after turning in his sophomore EP and just a month removed from announcing the second leg of his EP’s coinciding tour, Dancing Astronaut‘s co-2022 Breakout Artist of the Year has renewed part of the six-track EP that landed on Nightmode back in January.

And Knock2 paid direct homage back to the heart and soul of ROOM202, recruiting both Wolfgang Gartner and Mord Fustang for a pair of reworks from a pair of artists that truly encapsulated that period of electro house. Gartner puts his own spin on “REWiND” while Fustang reimagines “Are U Feelin Me” with Dev, allowing Knock2 to bring the EP’s narrative full circle. Stream both remixes below.

  • Accuracy – Does it accurately mimic target vocal signatures and accents?
  • Responsiveness – Can it synthesize speech in real time? Is latency noticeable?
  • Emotion – Does the platform enable emotive expressive delivery?
  • Data efficiency – Does it produce quality results from limited sample data?
  • Customization – Can you tailor pitch, speed, tones etc?
  • Integration – Does it provide SDKs for seamless voice integration?
  • Use cases – Will it accommodate your application and audience size needs?

Favor flexible solutions with strong audio quality that improve constantly as AI research advances.

Comparing Voice Cloning vs. AI Voices

Voice Cloning

  • Mimics a real person’s vocal signature
  • Requires sample data of target voice
  • Identifiable to original speaker
  • Legal and ethical issues to consider

AI Voices

  • Generated voice from scratch
  • Requires no real person sample data
  • Unique synthesized identity
  • Avoids likeness issues

Use Cases

Cloning – Digital assistants, voice augmentation, dubbing, impersonation

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

AI Voices – Unique assistants, vocal instruments, accessibility tools, protecting anonymity

Evaluate whether mimicking a real vocal identity or crafting a new AI voice better suits your needs.

Audio Data Required for AI Voices

The amount of data needed depends on the platform:

  • 5-10 minutes – Provides decent voice cloning and sampling for basic AI voices. Enables short voiceovers.
  • 15-30 minutes – Allows rich voice cloning with most tonal qualities intact. AI voices gain more range.
  • 60+ minutes – Ideal for cloning with maximum nuance preserved. AI voices sound hyper-realistic.

Ideally provide diverse samples showing tonal range. Video interviews often work well, capturing casual speech patterns.

Customizing and Controlling AI Voices

Look for tuning controls like:

  • Pitch – Adjusting vibration frequency of vocal cords
  • Speed – Controlling speaking pace and rhythm
  • Emphasis – Stress on words through pitch and volume
  • Tones – Targeting deeper or brighter timber
  • Breathing – Adding natural sounding inhales and exhales
  • Mouth sounds – Clicks, smacks, and lip noises that sound human
  • Expressiveness – Choosing emotional sentiment from joyous to somber

These customizations enable crafting unique voices tailored to your needs.

Ethical Considerations for AI Voices

  • Obtain consent before cloning recognizable voices.
  • Clarify ownership rights upfront. Some platforms claim partial IP rights.
  • Anonymize personal data from voice samples.
  • Disclose when synthesized speech is used publicly.
  • Consider biases that could be reinforced by representation choices in AI voices.
  • Avoid harmful or unethical content being voiced through unsafeguards.

Ensure respectful, consensual usage as synthetic media advances.

Pricing for AI Voice Solutions

Pricing varies based on:

  • One-time setup fees for cloning and custom voice building
  • Usage charges for generated speech (per word, per min, etc)
  • License terms dictating allowed applications
  • Quality level – entry, prosumer, enterprise
  • Support – self-service, concierge, customization
  • Access – Pay-as-you-go, subscriptions, licenses

Conclusion

Leading solutions enable unprecedented voice realism using limited data thanks to AI research progress. As quality improves, consider responsible voice cloning where beneficial, while crafting unique AI voices that push creative frontiers. Evaluate use cases, ethics, and licensing carefully. But embrace the new forms of personalized communication unlocked by artificial intelligence voices.

FAQs

Can you copyright an AI-generated voice?

Likely not in isolation. But unique voices crafted for commercial applications may warrant protection and trademarks. Proprietary model training likely provides some inherent rights.

What legal issues exist around voice cloning?

Consent and disclosure are paramount when cloning recognizable voices. Additional complexities arise regarding likeness usage and ownership. Further legal precedents and protections need developing.

Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.

Can AI mimic voices perfectly?

Today’s solutions come remarkably close with 5-10 minutes of data. But there are still subtle limitations around capturing highly nuanced vocal inflections, emotions, and contextual deliveries. Expect rapid improvements.

What’s better: AI voice or text to speech?

AI voices provide a much more natural human-like sound. But text-to-speech scales easier for long content without needing lots of sample data. A hybrid approach works well.

Can AI voices replace voice actors?

For assistants and one-off productions needing affordability, AI voices fill needs. But for emotional storytelling and blockbuster video games, the artistry of human vocal performances remains unmatched. The two can complement each other.

How close are we to real-time speech cloning?

Some solutions already enable live cloning by processing small voice segments. Streaming full conversations in real-time using limited data remains complex. But technology is rapidly reducing latency.

Disturbed’s David Draiman wants to work with Taylor Swift

Disturbed frontman David Draiman has sung the praises of Taylor Swift, even to the point that he would be up for collaborating with her.

Draiman got onto talking about Swift’s music in a new radio interview with Philadelphia’s WMRR station, in which he heaped praise on her songwriting.

“I think she is insanely talented. I’d love to collaborate with Taylor if she ever wanted to, on any given day,” he said, before going on to call her “one of the greatest songwriters of our time” [via FarOut].

“I love her gumption,” he continued. “I love the fact that she gets on stage in front of tens of thousands of screaming young female fans and plays a real instrument and sings live, and is the real deal.”

Disturbed’s David Draiman. Credit: Xavi Torrent/Redferns

Draiman then went on to shout out numerous other high-profile female pop stars. “: “There are a number of people within the pop genre that still do it the way that she does it — Pink is one of them; Lady Gaga is one of them. A lot of these people are just so gifted and so great at what they do, and she’s certainly way, way, way up there”.

In other Disturbed news, the band found themselves drenched towards the end of their recent concerts in Houston, Texas, after accidentally setting off the sprinkler system at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

“Our #TakeBackYourLifeTour was too hot to handle in Houston. Let’s hear it for the sprinkler system,” the band later quipped in a social media post.

Draiman also recently called out Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters on stage in Tel Aviv over accusations of anti-Semitism, which Waters has denied.

Draiman, who is Jewish and a staunch supporter of the Israeli state, performed the nation’s anthem ‘Hatikva’ along with an emphatic singalong by fans in attendance as a graphic of the Israeli flag flashed onscreen.

Deluxe reissue of Prince’s ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ announced

Prince‘s estate Paisley Park has announced an expanded reissue of his 1991 album ‘Diamonds And Pearls’.

The new super deluxe format of the record features the original LP remastered for the very first time, as well as 47 previously unreleased audio tracks and over two hours of live filmed concert footage in high definition from Prince’s vault. It will be released on October 27.

The previously unheard tracks include various remixes and B-sides from the era, including the ‘Damn Near 10 Min’ mix of ‘Gett Off’, which was never commercially released. Also included are numerous alternate versions of album tracks, as well as songs Prince gave away to other artists and songs he had recorded while on the road.

The estate has previewed two remastered tracks ahead of the reissue landing – check out the remastered versions of ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ and ‘Insatiable (Early Mix – Full Version)’ below.

‘Diamonds And Pearls’ is the third Prince album to be reissued, following ‘1999’ and ‘Sign O’The Times’, which were reissued in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Featuring singles such as ‘Gett Off’, ‘Cream’ and ‘Diamonds And Pearls’, the album was Prince’s first with his backing band The New Power Generation, who he worked with until 2013. He assembled the group largely from the Twin Cities area and gave them co-credit on ‘Diamonds And Pearls’, which he had only previously done with his former band The Revolution.

The album quickly became Prince’s biggest selling non-soundtrack album of his career thus far, and remains his best-selling album in the UK.

In other news, Dr Dre recently divulged his reasons for turning down the chance to work with Prince, as well as Michael Jackson.

“They just asked me to work with them and I just was like, ‘What the fuck am I going to do with them?’” he explained. “Those are my fucking heroes.”
