Watch Lana Del Rey crowd get knocked to the ground by huge energy wave at Mexico gig

New video clips have emerged from a recent Lana Del Rey concert in Mexico, which shows the crowd being knocked to the ground by a wave of energy.

At the concert at the Foro Sol in Mexico City last week (August 15), the singer was performing as part of her ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd‘ tour when a ripple of energy appeared to surge through the crowd and cause a domino effect.

The incident sent rows of concertgoers to the floor, but it’s currently unclear what exactly caused the energy wave, and if any fans were injured.

You can see footage of the moment below.

According to one theory from G. Keith Still, an expert in crowd safety and crowd risk analysis, the incident could have been caused by something called “progressive crowd collapse”.

Speaking to The Messenger, it’s caused when “the momentum of one person knocking into another increases significantly”.

He continued: “I think the phrase ‘domino effect’ is quite appropriate. If you stack dominoes up, a domino can knock over another domino one-and-a-half times its size, simply because you’re turning a potential energy into kinetic energy. You’re changing the force. So it’s very easy when you get into close proximity when the crowd is packed together to actually knock the whole thing over as one.”

Earlier this week, Lana Del Rey announced a short run of 2023 US tour dates, which will see her perform 10 shows and kicks off at FirstBank Amphitheater in Franklin on September 14.

The new run of shows comes after her set at Glastonbury 2023 was abruptly cut short. After taking to the stage 30 minutes late, her set ran beyond the strict festival curfew, which meant organisers cut off her microphone and switched off screens mid-way through.

During her BST Hyde Park concert series, Del Rey addressed the set and apologised to fans who were there.

Elsewhere, Jon Batiste recently shed light on unreleased collaborations with the singer-songwriter, describing them as “beautiful”.

BTS‘ V and NewJeans have met up to dance to the girl group’s hit single ‘Hype Boy’.

NewJeans recently shared a new clip of BTS member V joining them in the practice studio to dance to their 2022 hit single ‘Hype Boy’ across their social media accounts.

“I wanted to show a different side of my music compared to my past works and collaborating seemed like the best way to achieve that,” V shared. “Our collaborative discussions were productive, encompassing every detail, and the entire collaboration process was seamless.”

V’s debut album will include the songs ‘Rainy Days’ and ‘Love Me Again’, which he released earlier this month. ‘Layover’ will be released in full on September 8. Avicii's "Wake Me Up" Enters Spotify's Ultra- Exclusive Two-Billion Streams Club

Avicii’s biggest hit continues to push the late producer’s legacy to new heights.

Taking to Twitter, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek acknowledged that “Wake Me Up” has entered the particularly exclusive two-billion streams club, an honor held only by 40 songs on the platform.

The Aloe Blacc-assisted single famously premiered during Avicii’s set at the 2013 Ultra Music Festival, where it was met with muted—if not mixed—reactions from a booing audience due to the unconventional blend of bluegrass and dance music for the time.

Now 10 years removed from that fateful day, “Wake Me Up” has gone far beyond proving it’s worthy of being considered a dance classic.

The track became Spotify’s most-streamed song ever by February 2014. It subsequently went on to achieve the prestigious Diamond certification by the Recording Industry Association of America, denoting the sale of 10 million certified units and simultaneously making it the most decorated dance/electronic song within the organization.

Perhaps best of all, Ek noted that Avicii is the first Swedish artist with a song to surpass two billion streams on the platform. As of April 2023, “Wake Me Up” continues to dominate the upper echelons of the streaming economy and is currently the 41st most-streamed song on Spotify overall.

BTS’ V reveals the K-pop girl group that inspired ‘Layover’

South Korean singer V of boyband BTS has revealed the K-pop girl group that inspired his upcoming solo album, ‘Layover’.

BTS’ V will officially make his solo debut in September with his first studio album ‘Layover’, which will include the songs ‘Rainy Days’ and ‘Love Me Again’. The K-pop idol’s record will be led by Min Hee-jin, the CEO of NewJeans’ label ADOR.

In a new interview with W Korea, V opened up about ‘Layover’, why he decided to work with Min Hee-jin and the K-pop girl group that was the impetus for the record.

“f(x)’s ‘Pink Tape’ was a big inspiration,” V revealed. Notably, Min Hee-jin had been the creative director at SM Entertainment when f(X) released ‘Pink Tape’ in 2013. “I reached out to her the moment I recalled it.”

“I wanted to show a different side of my music compared to my past works and collaborating seemed like the best way to achieve that,” the K-pop idol added. “Our collaborative discussions were productive, encompassing every detail, and the entire collaboration process was seamless.”

V also spoke about how ‘Layover’ will be a mix of the singer’s “strengths with [his] passions”. He added: “My love for diverse genres often has me humming away. While creating this solo album, I truly discovered my vocal essence, and that’s what makes me incredibly fulfilling.”

V’s upcoming record will make him the latest member of BTS to release a solo album, joining the likes of Jimin, RM, J-hope and Suga. Meanwhile, bandmate Jungkook says he’s aiming to release his debut solo mini-album by November 2023.

Mic Nickels Just Re-released and Remixed HIs Track With Method Man and It’s a Good Thing He Did [Video]

With COVID and all the great requisite music swirling around during those years, music fans could generally be forgiven for a couple of tracks slipping through the cracks but something as big as a collab between underground rap hip hop genius Mic Nickels and legendary Wu Tang big voice Method Man…we at YEDM ashamed of ourselves. The track in question, “El Matador,” dropped as the last track on Nickels’ 2021 album Bars for Days, which also featured Timbo King, Teen AF and vocalist Jeanette Berry but perhaps got lost in the rip tide of tracks that came from bred artists during COVID. Now with the re-release, a sick animated video and three wildly different remixes, it seems the potential energy of “El Matador” is about to turn kinetic.

With over 20 years in the hip hop game as himself, his two other aliases, his jazz/hip hop fusion band Nickel and Dime Ops and his co-founding of international collective, MHB, it stands to reason that Mic Nickels has more than a few influential hip hop friends. In fact “El Matador” was originally supposed to be a collab with another hip hop heavy hitter, the late MF DOOM.

This track was originally slated to feature MF DOOM. He agreed before he passed but never completed it.  Eventually we filled in with Method Man, which was incredible. (It was) a complete honor for him to hear my music and say ‘yeah, I can get with that!’  The idea behind the track was to discuss how one deals with their opponents, almost how a matador plays with their aggressor. The premise came to me after reading The Sun Also Rises, by Hemingway. I wrote and recorded it before any other MCs listened, so it doesn’t cater towards Meth or anyone else’s style. Just pure poetry.

That poetry was originally done over a Wu Tang-inspired beat by MHB producer Mr. Cord with a funky as fuck bassline by acclaimed jazz double bass player Dezron Douglas, but the new remixes are all over the place. As Nickels’ focus tends to be on the lyrics of any project, it’s clear he loved the bars here enough to see them re-worked in a variety off ways. The Bizzythowed remix is a nu metal-style rock version with guitar by Brandon “Bizzy” Hollemon and scratch work done by Dj Keef Wookie, whereas the O.P. Supa is another minimal New York-inspired mix that’s smooth and gives the lyrics space. The Spotanola remix is heavier on the jazz vibes, likely inspired by Nickels’ own connection to jazz. Utilizing the theory that truly good lyrics can work with any genre, Nickels has not only re-introduced this hidden gem to the music world but re-vamped it to reach an even broader audience.

If three remixes weren’t enough, Nickels also commissioned a cool animated music video for the original track, released last month, illustrated by Charles “Ooge” Ugas and animated by Animo Studios. Set, of course, on the streets of New York, it’s a mini-anime with visceral compositional shots and a spaghetti western-style narrative that highlights those aspects of “El Matador” that tie into the track’s original concept. Obviously Meff and Nickels emerge victorious in the MC showdown, and the last shot is a “missing flyer” with DOOM’s logo on it, an homage to the original original that never happened.

With a personal lore so steeped in the NYC hip hop scene that his work completely embodies it at this point, it’s odd that “El Matador” sort of just slid into the Mic Nickels discography without many of his fans noticing, but he’s certainly fixing that now. A perfectionist of some measure, NIckels is known for waiting to really promote things and he may, in this case, have been waiting on this epic video being done, as is also his wont. That said, now it’s out and hitting hip hop hard, just like most of Nickels’ work, and with four different versions for fans to choose from. If you’re a hip hop fan and haven’t heard of this triple musical (quadruple?) threat, it’s time to get on board with “El Matador.”

“El Matador” is streamable on Spotify, along with his discography under this moniker. Check out his gritty hip hop memoir, also named Bars for Days, on Amazon.

The first trailer for Netflix‘s crime thriller Reptile has landed, and features Sky Ferreira – check it out below.

  • READ MORE: Sky Ferreira: “I’m starting to realise: I’m glad that I sound like me”

The film is Grant Singer’s debut feature, and also features the likes of Justin Timberlake, Benicio Del Toro (who also co-writes), Alicia Silverstone, Michael Pitt and Eric Bogosian.

A synopsis for the film reads: “A hardened small-town detective uncovers a complex web of deception as he digs for the truth behind the brutal murder of a young real estate agent.”

It will land on Netflix on October 6 after premiering at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Check out the trailer below.

Discussing the film, Singer said: “I think the movie will be exciting to people who like to watch something where you don’t know where it’s leading you, where a film is going to have twists and turns and deceive you.

“People who like things that are intense and visceral and suspenseful, I think they’ll find something exciting in this. I didn’t want to make something that felt cold and clinical and sterile. I wanted to make something that felt alive and warm and relatable and human.”

Elsewhere, Ferreira has responded to a billboard in New York City that claims she is being “held hostage” by her record label.

Ferreira’s fans had reportedly bought a billboard in Times Square to share a photo of the singer with the message “Free Sky Ferreira”, claiming that her music is being held hostage by her label Capitol Records.

The singer responded to the billboard and messages by posting a photo of it to her Instagram stories with the caption “It’s True”, confirming that her label is keeping her from releasing new music, especially her follow-up to her 2013 debut ‘Night Time, My Time’.
