Autograf's Stunning Sophomore Album Channels Dance Music Into Transformative Affirmations

The dance of self-empowerment is a tricky one with some tough footwork, but Autograf are masters at choreographing the journey of personal liberation.

The duo today released their sophomore album, Affirmations, a project that conjures a dancefloor where the body becomes a vessel for the soul’s desires. Each pulsating beat functions as an affirmation, akin to whispered mantras that mold thoughts into tangible existence.

“Like most people, we struggle with our own doubts and insecurities,” Autograf said in a joint statement. “We all live life with a bit of imposter syndrome: ‘I’m not a real musician, I’m not an artist.’ Along the way, we’ve come to realize that we needed to change the story in our minds to become who we aspire to be, which led us to this album.”

Four-on-the-floor rhythms and hypnotic sound design are the cornerstones of Affirmations. Just as affirmations are the building blocks of transformation, each of the album’s 13 tracks beckons us to traverse the labyrinth of our own aspirations.

In the invigorating “Lie,” your friend polly leaves no stone unturned as she captures the intense urge to rebel against emotional pain by indulging in reckless abandon. Meanwhile, Autograf tiptoe into techno territory with “La Petite Mort,” a haunting cut with lyricism exploring an existential nightmare.

Elsewhere, the rapturous “High On That New Love” constructs a sonic tapestry that mirrors the profound experience of affirmations: the process of imbuing thoughts with positive energy to shape reality. Here, dancefloor-filling melodies are affirmations and movement is the ultimate proclamation of self.

“‘I am confident, I am creative, I am an amazing artist,'” Autograf continue. “Daily affirmations changed our entire outlook on our craft and ourselves, and we found that once we believed in the power of affirmations, we started to become those things.”

DJ Shadow announces new LP ‘Action Adventure’ and shares track ‘Ozone Scraper’

DJ Shadow has announced his forthcoming album ‘Action Adventure’ with the first single ‘Ozone Scraper’. Listen to it below.

  • READ MORE: DJ Shadow – ‘Our Pathetic Age’ review: a muddled concept album rescued by powerhouse guests

His seventh studio album is almost entirely an instrumental collection. The 14-track LP differs from his 2019′ star-studded album ‘Our Pathetic Age’ in an effort to “write music that flexed different energies”.

Taking to Instagram on August 9, DJ Shadow shared: “I needed to get personal and make music for myself again. I didn’t want to compromise or write music to give someone else a runway, I wanted to force myself to permeate every available sonic space and ‘own’ the total composition.”

In a press release, DJ Shadow said: “This is about my relationship to music. My life as a collector and curator. All my records and tapes, and no one else’s.”

‘Ozone Scraper’, the first single of the LP, comes with an accompanying video directed by Stefano Ottaviano.

‘Action Adventure’ is set for release on October 27 via Mass Appeal/Liquid Amber. Pre-order the album here.

DJ Shadow will be playing a handful of live shows in North America in October. Check out the full list of live dates and the LP’s tracklisting below. Visit here for tickets.

3. ‘Time and Space’
4. ‘Craig, Ingels, & Wrightson’
5. ‘Witches Vs. Warlocks’
6. ‘A Narrow Escape’

10. ‘Friend Or Foe’
11. ‘Fleeting Youth (An Audible Life)’
12. ‘Reflecting Pool’
13. ‘Forever Changed’
14. ‘She’s Evolving’

DJ Shadow Live dates are:

OCTOBER
6 – Hammonton, NJ,  Submersion Festival
21 – Denver, CO, Mission Ballroom
22 – Chicago, IL, Radius

‘Action Adventure’ follows 2019’s ‘Our Pathetic Age’. In a three-star review, NME‘s Patrick Clarke was underwhelmed by its concept, opining that “what Shadow actually has to say about our so-called ‘Pathetic Age’, if anything at all, is never clear”.

“It’s a double album consisting of one instrumental side and one side featuring guest MCs and vocalists,” the review read. “The first half conjures plenty of dystopian whirrs and attacks of synth, but only occasionally do they create enough atmosphere to properly invoke anything concrete.”

Since releasing ‘Our Pathetic Age’, Davis has remixed songs by the likes of Deftones (for their ‘Black Stallion’ remix album) and King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard (Black Hot Soup’), and released a 25th anniversary reissue of his debut album ‘Endtroducing’.

Post Malone shares details of his diet for weight loss transformation

Post Malone has shared details of his diet which helped him lose weight.

While appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, the singer revealed that he weighed roughly 240 pounds before making changes to his diet to help him lose weight.

Malone – whose real name is Austin Richard Post – shared that he was able to drop down to 185 pounds after stopping his soda intake.

“Soda is so bad. It’s so good, but so bad. (If) I had a great show, and you know what, I’m feeling a little bit naughty. I’m gonna have myself a Coke on ice,” the singer told Rogan during the interview.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_sAwL4yxbA

Malone previously shared that becoming a father motivated him to change his lifestyle. During an interview with Zane Lowe, the ‘Circles’ singer said: “I guess having a baby really put a lot into perspective and it’s really slowed me down a lot, party-wise, going out and being crazy. But it’s the most beautiful thing.

“I just want to take some time now. And actually you mentioned all the accoutrement of success and everything that comes with that. Now I just want to take a second and enjoy it.”

Earlier this year, Malone took to social media to address rumours his weight transformation was connected to drugs, which he denied in an Instagram post.

On April 28, the singer-rapper wrote: “I wanted to say that I’m not doing drugs, I’ve had a lot of people ask me about my weight loss and I’d suppose, performance on stage. I’m having a lot of fun performing, and have never felt healthier. I guess dad life kicked in and I decided to kick soda, and start eating better so I can be around for a long time for this little angel. Next up is smokes and brews, but I like to consider myself a patient man…”

In other news, Malone recently purchased a unique ‘Magic: The Gathering’ card worth £1.5million.

Post Malone is a fan of the trading card game and has been for years, frequently collaborating with Wizards of the Coast to promote Magic: The Gathering. As a symbol of the friendship between the artist and the publisher, a Post the Enchanter card was made – a one-of-kind foil skinned portrayal of Post Malone as Zur the Enchanter.

Last month, the singer released his latest album ‘Austin’, which he described as capturing “who I am as a man and as an artist in this moment”.

The LP received a four-star rating from NME, who praised the rapper for delivering a thoughtful and introspective album, that showed fans a more personal side to him.

“Though his notable genre-defying skills are still here in ‘Austin’, Posty’s clearly veering off in new creative directions, which is a bold choice to make considering his formula thus far has pushed him to global acclaim,” it read.

“‘Austin’ is a thoughtful look back at all the vices and drinking that led to that comedown and a quick hopeful glance at what could happen next. The subject matter may be cutting at times – like when Malone recalls being so messed up he’s talking to nobody, throwing up on a tile floor and not wanting to sober up in ‘Mourning’ – but instead of each track playing out painfully, the album’s intricate production acts like a spoonful of sugar to help the bitterness go down.”

DJ Soda Reveals She Was Sexually Assaulted, Groped by Fans at Japanese Music Festival

DJ Soda has opened up about a distressing incident at this year’s Music Circus Festival in Osaka, where she says she was groped by a number of fans.

The beloved South Korean DJ shared a lengthy Instagram post wherein she claims that several attendees sexually assaulted her during a period in which she was interacting with the crowd. Those people, Soda says, touched and grabbed her breasts.

“In order to communicate more closely with the fans, I always get closer to the fans at the end of the gig,” Soda wrote. “At that moment, not only one but also several people suddenly touched my chest and I was helplessly sexually harassed by them.”

Soda’s post includes images of the alleged assaults. They appear to show fans reaching across the security barrier to touch her chest.

“I was so surprised and scared, but there were fans who liked me and also cried a lot, so I tried my best to finish it imperturbably,” she continued. “Now I’m back at the hotel however I’m still very scared, and I’ve never ever experienced anything like this in my 10 years as a DJ.”

The organizers of Music Circus Festival, TryHard Japan, are now investigating the matter and planning to file a criminal complaint, Kyodo News reports. The company is considering charges of indecent assault, although police are yet to identify the suspects, sources said.

Soda went on to share another post blasting criticism she received with regards to her “revealing” attire.

“No matter what clothes I wear, sexual harassment and assault cannot be justified. I’ve been wanting to say this for some time,” she wrote. “Maybe it’s obvious, but it took a lot of courage to say this. I’m not wearing revealing clothes to make people to touch me and see my body. I know myself very well so I know what kind of clothes make me look pretty, which makes me feel confident and satisfied with it, so I wear the clothes I want to wear only for my own satisfaction. But they have no right to touch me or sexually harass me because I wear revealing clothes.”

Watch Taking Back Sunday play surprise set in Long Island garden

Taking Back Sunday played a surprise gig at a house garden in Long Island, New York this past weekend. Check out the video below.

  • READ MORE: Taking Back Sunday at 20: Adam Lazzara on emo nostalgia, “embarrassing” US politics, and remembering Chester Bennington

The house show took place in Lindenhurst, Long Island on Sunday, August 13. It was the day after the band had headlined the Four Chord Music Festival in Western Pennsylvania. According to fans on social media, Taking Back Sunday took over the Smith brothers’ backyard.

The show served as a homecoming for the group, who are originally from Long Island. It was also a throwback to the early days of their career, where they used to play local shows in the same fashion.

Alongside footage of the performance, a fan on X, formerly named Twitter, wrote: “Only on Long Island can the stuff of dreams happen, you just had to be there.” Another added: “Taking Back Sunday and friends in the backyard. absolutely unreal”

The band’s headlining set at the Four Chord Music Festival the day prior was riddled with weather related issues, with delays due to tornado threats. Once the weather cleared up, the group played an acoustic set.

“We got to debut the acoustic version of ‘The One’ and we had a lot of fun,” they shared on Instagram after thanking their fans who waited and “sang along despite the crazy weather”.

Recently, the band returned with their new track ‘The One’, marking their first new music in four years.

The song also marked the band’s first release for their new label home Fantasy Records. The rock veterans were signed to a worldwide recording contract with the LA-based indie label earlier this year.

They are currently wrapping up their tour. The remaining upcoming dates include shows in Las Vegas (August 19), Missouri (August 25), Kansas City (August 26), and Florida (August 29 and 30). Visit here for any last minute tickets.

Kasbo is back: stream his first solo single in three years on Foreign Family, ‘The Way You Had Me’ – Dancing Astronaut

“Next year will make up for the lack of releases this year, trust.” It’d been nearly three years since Kasbo‘s sophomore album—and one of Dancing Astronaut’s Top Albums of 2020—The Making Of A Paracosm and more than a year since his last original release, “Blow The Roof” with Louis The Child and EVAN GIAA. But Kasbo is officially back to enter his next chapter. And it times perfectly with his trip alongside Jai Wolf for the Blue Babu tour being just a week out, where he teased he’ll be “testing out a ton of new music.”

Kasbo has officially kept true to his word from the end of 2022. “The Way You Had Me” with Cy not only marks his return home to Foreign Family, but also his first unaccompanied original since that forenamed album. He explained that shortly after The Making Of A Paracosm arrived, he hit a wall, which eventually resulted in the near release pause in between then and now. But “The Way You Had Me” grandly welcomes Kasbo back, capturing a more matured sound that he’d been striving towards. Just before the single’s release, Kasbo took to his Instagram to shed some light on the past few years, explaining,

“Dropping my first original song in almost three years on Wednesday. After I released my last album I sort of entered this state of confusion as to where my place was in the electronic music scene. My taste had evolved and I didn’t know how to formulate the music I was passionate about in a way that felt like my own which led to a long dry spell of not making any music I enjoyed for years almost. My new song “The Way You Had Me” that comes out Wednesday was a turning point for me, it was the first step of me figuring out what it was I was supposed to do, and how to do it. Since I made it I’ve created more music and felt more inspired than ever before. It’s honestly incredibly exciting getting to finally start showing everyone this new music that to me feels like a new era of me as an artist. I chose this song as my first release back because it felt like a bridge from what I’ve done in the past to what I’m working on right now. Genuinely can’t wait to release it and to bring you all along on this new journey!! Thanks for sticking with me, love you all”

BABYMETAL share ‘Metali’ featuring Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello

Babymetal have joined forces with Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine for a new single. Check out ‘Metali’ below.

The new song is the latest in the Japanese kawaii metal band’s series of star-studded collaborations, and sees them partner with the Rage guitarist for another up-tempo, electrifying track.

The group first teased the release last week and, according to the press release, ‘Metali’ is “officially the first song by the newly reborn” group – now consisting of SU-METAL, MOAMETAL, and MOMOMETAL. It also confirms that the single was created with the vision of their crowd forming a circle pit at a metal festival this summer.

Speaking of the collaboration with Babymetal, Morello explained that he wanted to team up with the group because of their reputation to deliver intense, blistering performances.

“I am a big fan of Babymetal, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns,” he said. “I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of ‘Metali’ I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!” Check out the single below.

‘Metali’ comes following the band’s guest appearance on Lil Uzi Vert’s recently released album ‘Pink Tape’, which ranked #1 on U.S. Billboard 200. It also comes in advance of their upcoming world tour, which will see them play three intimate shows across the UK.

The three dates include two back-to-back slots at London’s Roundhouse on November 27 and 28, followed by a stop at The Civic at The Halls in Wolverhampton the following day. All three slots are currently sold-out.

The gigs will mark the first time the new line-up has performed in the UK. Earlier this year, Babymetal added former Girls Planet 999 contestant Momoko Okazaki to the group following the departure of original member Yuimetal – real name Yui Mizuno – in 2018.

Back in January, the group also shared a new single, ‘Metal Kingdom’, the third single from their latest album ‘The Other One’, which arrived in March.
