Olivia Rodrigo has shared that she is officially a Chelsea FC fan after attending her first-ever football match.

The pop singer supported Chelsea at Stamford Bridge during the football club’s first Premier League game of the season against Liverpool on Sunday (August 13).

She confirmed it was the first football match she had ever seen and had “the best time”. Taking to her official Instagram account, the singer posted a video on her Insta stories of her running on on the pitch.

Rodrigo also took photos with Chelsea defender, Ben Chilwell, who then shared a photo of them chatting and presenting her with a blue number eight football shirt embossed with her last name.

Taking to their official social media accounts, the club shared a photo of Rodrigo and Chilwell smiling on X (Twitter) with a caption that read: “New Chelsea fan unlocked: Olivia Rodrigo”, and on Instagram with the caption: “Olivia Rodrigo is a Blue! #CheLiv.”

In other news, the singer recently shared a new single called ‘Bad Idea Right?’.

The song will appear on the pop singer’s second studio album ‘Guts’, which is due for release on September 8 via Geffen (pre-order/pre-save here).

Rodrigo recently revealed the full tracklist for the record which is the follow-up to the artist’s Grammy-winning debut ‘Sour’. It will feature the cuts ‘All American Bitch’, ‘Ballad Of A Homeschooled Girl’, ‘Love Is Embarrassing’, ‘Pretty Isn’t Pretty’ and more.

Earlier this summer, the singer explained that she had already come up with the title for her forthcoming second album before ‘Sour’ had even seen the light of day.

“I had it in my head. I’m like, ‘Four letters, all caps, just like ‘Sour’,” she recalled. “I love it. I just think it’s an interesting word.”

Rodrigo added: “People use it in so many interesting contexts, like spill your guts. Hate your guts… I think is a really interesting term. [It] means bravery, but it also means intuition, like listen to your gut. I just think it’s all of these things that coincidentally were things that I’ve really been thinking about in this chapter.”

Here’s Metallica’s ‘Kill ‘Em All’ played in the style of ZZ Top

A musician and content creator has performed the entirety of Metallica‘s debut studio album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ in the style of ZZ Top.

Denis Pauna, a singer and guitarist from Croatia, performed and recorded every track from the American heavy metal band’s 1983 classic in the bluesy style of the Texas-formed Southern-rock band, and posted it online to his YouTube channel.

“Here’s the WHOLE album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ by Metallica as if ZZ Top wrote it. Even though a few days passed by, this video counts as a KEA 40th Anniversary!” Pauna wrote in the video description. ‘Kill ‘Em All’ turned 40 on July 25, 2023.

You can listen to the 40-minute reimagining of the ‘Kill ‘Em All’ below.

“As a fan of both Metallica and ZZ Top, this is incredible,” one YouTube comment read.

“This sounds way better than it has any right to,” another added, while a third shared: “I would love to sit at a bar counter, low light, drinking a good bourbon, or a beer, relaxing and listening to this whole set live.”

Other videos on his channel attempt to answer what ‘Barbie Girl’ would sound like as a “southern metal song” and “if Rammstein wrote Bon Jovi‘s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.”

Elsewhere, an AI generator recently came up with a cover version of Seal‘s ‘Kiss From A Rose’, covered by Metallica frontman James Hetfield.

It comes after a whole host of artificially generated cover versions have been shared online in recent months, such a The Beatles ‘covering’ The Beach Boys and a controversial ‘cover’ of Hole’s ‘Celebrity Skin’ by Kurt Cobain.

Back in June, Metallica released their new ‘Amsterdam Sessions’ live EP and shared the ‘If Darkness Had A Son’ performance video.

The four-track EP, recorded in April at Ready Set Studios in Amsterdam, consists of ’72 Seasons’ cuts ‘Lux Æterna’ and ‘If Darkness Had A Son’, alongside classics ‘Master Of Puppets’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters’.

In other news, Hetfield recently admitted that he called Kip Winger to apologise for dissing him in the band’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ video, which sees Lars Ulrich use Winger’s face as a dartboard.

Sufjan Stevens announces new album ‘Javelin’ and shares first single

Sufjan Stevens has announced his new album ‘Javelin’ and shared lead single ‘So You Are Tired’ – listen to it below.

  • READ MORE: Sufjan Stevens – ‘Convocations’ review: 49-song ambient opus is moving, but hard work

‘Javelin’ is due out on October 6 via Asthmatic Kitty Records, and is available to pre-save/ pre-order here. The LP marks the artist’s first solo album since 2020’s ‘The Ascension‘, and his first back in “full singer-songwriter mode” since ‘Carrie & Lowell‘, according to a press release.

It also follows his April release ‘Reflections’, a studio recording of his score for the ballet by choreographer Justin Peck.

Lead single ‘So You Are Tired’ is a gentle piano number that gradually swells to introduce guitars, percussion and a choir of powerful vocals. “So you are tired of us / So rest your head,” Stevens sings.

Listen to it below.

The forthcoming 10-track album sees “the entire experience of Stevens’ 25-year career brought to bear in four-minute bursts of choral, orchestral, and electric wonder”, as per the release.

The musician worked with a close circle of collaborators on the new LP, including adrienne maree brown, Hannah Cohen, Pauline Delassus, Megan Lui, Nedelle Torrisi and Bryce Dessner. Stevens’ cover of Neil Young‘s ‘There’s A World’ also closes the album.

The release will also be accompanied by a 48-page book of art and essays created by Stevens.

The 10 short essays, which vary widely in tone and style “offer little glimpses into loves and losses that have shaped him, and, in turn, these songs”.

Find the tracklisting and album art below.

The ‘Javelin’ tracklist is:

1. ‘Goodbye Evergreen’
2. ‘A Running Start’
3. ‘Will Anybody Ever Love Me?’
4. ‘Everything That Rises’
5. ‘Genuflecting Ghost’
6. ‘My Red Little Fox’
7. ‘So You Are Tired’
8. ‘Javelin (To Have And To Hold)’
9. ‘Shit Talk’
10. ‘There’s A World’

Back in June, Stevens announced that he is set to share new music as part of a 20th anniversary reissue of his 2003 LP ‘Michigan’. Earlier this year, it was also announced that the follow-up, 2005’s ‘Illinois’, will be turned into a musical.

His string of recent announcements and new releases comes after he expressed his desire to “a break and step back” from music for a while in 2021.

In a four-star review of his May 2021 release ‘Convocations’, NME wrote: “‘Convocations’ is a mature work, but its length and intricate creation makes it difficult to get under its skin, the record’s wonderful honesty hidden behind layers that you wish could be peeled back.”

“That first album is really good and super legit”

Corey Taylor has shared his love of Kaiser Chiefs, praising the Leeds band’s debut album ‘Employment’ in a new interview with NME.

The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman spoke to NME for the latest in the In Conversation video series and arrived at the interview after having conducted a radio interview with Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson.

“I was really looking forward to it ‘cause I love his band,” Taylor said. “We had a lovely chat and he’s a rad dude.”

The metal icon continued to discuss his love for Kaiser Chiefs, singling out ‘Employment’ as a highlight from their back catalogue. “Especially that first album, man,” he said. “It’s really, really good and super legit.”

Speaking of the impact the record had on him, he said: “The more I got into that album, the more it inspired me to write. I went on this whole slew of writing, man – just a ton of tunes. To this day, I listen to it and really get down with it. I’ve been threatening to do a cover of ‘Modern Way’ for a long time.

“I’d do a really cool acoustic version of it, which would be really rad. Not full-on metal. I wouldn’t brutalise it, I wouldn’t grindcore it or anything.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Taylor teased the release of Slipknot’s “lost” album, ‘Look Outside Your Window’. The band recorded the album in 2008 but, so far, only one track from the sessions has been released – ‘All Hope Is Gone’ bonus track ‘Til We Die’.

“It’s actually funny that you bring that up,” Taylor said. “I was talking to Clown about it the other day and he goes, ‘One of the reasons it hasn’t come out is because you keep putting shit out which keeps conflicting with when I want to release it!’

“I was like, ‘Fuck dude, why didn’t you tell me?’ He says, ‘Fuck, Taylor – you just got too much shit!’ It’s sounding like he’s got a release date that he can finally lock in and I have promised him that I won’t release anything that will ruin that. I think it’s going to be next year – finally, man!”

He continued: “I just went back and listened to all that stuff and it’s so dope and so different. People going into this thinking it sounds like ‘Slipknot’ Slipknot are so wrong. It doesn’t sound like anything Slipknot have ever done, that’s why it’s its own thing. To me, it really is the long-lost album. The music is so beautiful, it probably has some of my favourite melodies that I’ve done, and people are really going to dig it. Clown did a really good job.”

Taylor is set to release his second solo album ‘CMFT2’ on September 15 and will tour the UK and Europe in support of the record in November. You can find any remaining tickets for the tour here.

Metric pay homage to David Lynch in ‘Nothing Is Perfect’ video

Canadian indie icons Metric have released a new single, ‘Nothing Is Perfect’ and its accompanying music video.

  • READ MORE: Metric – ‘Formentera’ review: indie icons approach life’s ups and downs with Balearic bliss

Released on Friday (August 11), ‘Nothing Is Perfect’ serves as the second preview of the band’s upcoming album ‘Formentera II’. The recently released track is a mostly acoustic cut, with vocalist Emily Haines singing about being stuck in a relationship where one feels stuck in a rut, and isn’t necessarily happy or unhappy.

Watch the music video for ‘Nothing Is Perfect’ below.

The music video for ‘Nothing Is Perfect’ – directed by Justin Broadbent, who has filmed multiple Metric videos in the past – also features a tip of the hat to filmmakers such as David Lynch and Terrence Malick.

Emily Haines said of the music video via a press release: “We worked with Justin Broadbent to create an atmospheric and surreal visual accompaniment to enhance the otherworldly mood of the song, with stylistic nods to Terrence Malick and David Lynch. The song ends with a meditative and anthemic repetition of the word “nothing”, like I’m celebrating it and singing its praises. I love nothing!”

‘Nothing Is Perfect’ comes a month after the release of the album’s first single, ‘Just The Once’. ‘Formentera II’ is scheduled for release on October 13 via Metric Music International/Thirty Tigers. Pre-orders are now available and can be purchased here.

Last year’s ‘Formentera’ scored a four-star review from Rhian Daly for NME. Daly wrote: “‘Formentera’ is an exercise in trying to let go until it hits the title track. ‘I Will Never Settle’ is resilient but soft, glittering melodies rippling through the track and giving it an air of melancholy magic. ‘Oh Please’ rides on a syncopated, funk-tinged bassline. Come the arrival of closing track ‘Paths In The Sky’, a buzzing slice of soaring indie, it feels that the band have accepted life’s up and downs.”

Watch Ed Sheeran sing ‘Lego House’ outside a Lego shop in Minnesota

Ed Sheeran performed an intimate rendition of ‘Lego House’ outside a Lego store in Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend.

  • READ MORE: Ed Sheeran – ‘Subtract’ review: his troubled times laid bare

The singer-songwriter is currently Stateside for his North American ‘+ – = ÷ x Tour’ (‘Mathematics’ tour)‘, where he is also playing 14 intimate dates for the simultaneous ‘Subtract’ tour on the way.

Sheeran’s latest stop saw him help out at the Mall Of America yesterday (August 12) to work as a “brick specialist”.

During his shift, he assisted customers, signed autographs and performed his 2011 hit ‘Lego House’ with his acoustic guitar outside the store. Find footage of the impromptu gig below.

Sheeran’s stop at the Lego store comes after footage emerged of Lana Del Rey working a shift at a Waffle House in Alabama.

In one video, the star is seen handing a customer their beverage from behind the counter while wearing a blue Waffle House uniform and yellow name badge.

Meanwhile, last month Eminem joined Sheeran onstage during his show at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan – the rap icon’s hometown.

Sheeran began to play a cover of 2002 hit ‘Lose Yourself’ from the 8 Mile Soundtrack before Eminem emerged onto the stage.

The duo then performed Eminem’s 2000 track ‘Stan’, with Sheeran filling in for Dido‘s parts.

Sheeran had previously credited Eminem with helping him “cure” his childhood stutter.

Elsewhere, Sheeran recently opened up about his thoughts on the use of artificial intelligence in music, calling the technology “weird”.

“What I don’t understand about AI is like, for the last 60 years, Hollywood movies have been telling you, ‘Don’t do it’. And now everyone’s doing it,” the musician said during an interview with Audacy, which took place at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City. “And I’m just like, ‘Have you not seen the movies where they kill us all?’”

Missy Elliott reflects on the making of ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’ music video

Missy Elliott has reflected on creating the iconic music video for her track ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’, recalling a slight wardrobe mishap on the shoot day.

In the video for the 1997 song the rapper wears an inflatable black leather bodysuit, which is shot in a high angle fish-eye lens.

Reflecting on the video being ranked the number one greatest hip-hop video of all time by Rolling Stone, the rapper shared on Twitter: “Fun fact I had to go to a gas station in Brooklyn NY to get air in this blow up suit & the suit blew up so big I couldn’t fit in the car so I had to walk back to set down the street in this outfit in BROOKLYN. dem ppl was riding pass like she must be high.”

“High as a kite,” she joked in a follow-up tweet. “I wonder if anybody from Brooklyn saw me that day walking down the street in that hot ass suit. if you look at the music video it had deflated by the time I got back to set so some scenes the suit flat after all that walking.”

Sharing clips of the music video, Elliott went on: “Funfact about the blow up suit deflating so the first lil clip is after they had to keep blowing the suit up but the second clip you can see the suit deflating but shit we was on a budget so we kept the scenes where the the suit was deflated. that was so hood.”

Last month, Elliott also reflected on production of song, which features a sample of Ann Peebles’ 1973 single ‘I Can’t Stand The Rain’. “My BEATS & STYLE & my physical appearance the chubby gal was not like anyone else out,” she shared in a tweet.

“I was Animated & doing sound effects way back then which we now call them ADLIBS. Look at this video 2day this came out 26 years ago & it is still is SO far AHEAD. this is Facts.”

Back in March, Elliott featured on FLO‘s new single ‘Fly Girl’, which samples Elliott‘s 2002 hit ‘Work Hit’ along with an original verse.

“Working with FLO has been nothing less than amazing,” said the legendary rapper and producer. “I remember a few of their fans sent me clips of their performances, and I immediately felt the authentic 90’s vibe.”
