Babymetal have announced a new collaboration with Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello titled ‘METALI!!’.
The track marks the first new song by the newly reborn group which now consists of Su-Metal, Moametal and Momometal. According to a press release, the track is very up-tempo and was created with the idea of a summer festival taking place in a metal village where everyone forms a circle to celebrate the festival.
Speaking of the track, Morello shared: “I am a big fan of Babymetal, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of ‘METALI!!’ I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!”
‘METALI!!’ is set for release on August 18. The track comes fresh off off of the heels of Babymetal’s collaboration with rapper Lil Uzi Vert titled ‘The End’.
The group previously announced that they will embark on an intimate UK tour this November.
They are due to play two headline shows at London’s Roundhouse to kick off the intimate run before playing The Civic at The Halls in Wolverhampton. Fans can buy and sell tickets for the gigs at global marketplace, viagogo here.
These shows will be the first time the band’s new line-up has performed in the UK. Earlier this year, Babymetal added former Girls Planet 999 contestant Momoko Okazaki to the group following the departure of original member Yuimetal – real name Yui Mizuno – in 2018.
Okazaki had been a member of a trio of backup dancers, known as Avengers, since 2019 and has adopted the stage name Momometal as part of the “reborn Babymetal”.
Babymetal are also set to perform at this year’s Louder Than Life festival, which is set to take place in Louisville, Kentucky at Highland Festival Grounds at Kentucky Exposition Center from September 21 to 24.
The festival will be headlined by Foo Fighters, Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold. Other musicians set to perform include Weezer, Queens Of the Stone Age, Limp Bizkit and more.

A departure for the EDM.com Class of 2021 star, bittersweet is a poignant commentary on life, heartbreak and growth in your 20s. From melancholy to anger, Luci fearlessly weaves through her emotions after toiling through the throes of an identity crisis.
“It made me do a lot of inner soul-searching,” Luci told us back in February. “And I made a pop song and I was like, ‘Holy s**t!'”
bittersweet spans 17 tracks and includes a handful of previously-released singles, like the angsty “Narcissist.” Incredibly strong from start to finish, the album kicks off with one of Luci’s catchiest tracks, “cry baby.” The vulnerability continues to unfurl on “girl after me” and “please don’t hate me,” among other standout tracks.
All said and done, Luci has done a phenomenal job creating a captivating and cohesive story. Her musings on misfortune, angst and improvement are as relatable as they are digestible.

Depeche Mode have announced the acts joining them as support on the North American leg of their ‘Memento Mori’ tour.
Announced today (August 11), the band – which is comprised of Martin Gore and Dave Gahan – shared the three acts that will be joining them for their string of tour dates across North America starting next month.
On Instagram, the duo shared that Kelly Lee Owens, Young Fathers and DIIV would be the acts joining them across all 35 upcoming shows.
Kicking off their North American tour with three dates in Mexico on September 21, 23 and 25, the band will then head out to Austin, Texas. From there, Depeche Mode will make stops in major cities such as Miami, Brooklyn, Cleveland, Vancouver, Seattle, and San Diego.
The tour will wrap up with four dates in Los Angeles, California in December. Visit here for tickets.
The upcoming tour dates are in support of band’s 15th studio album, ‘Memento Mori’, which was released earlier this year.
Speaking with NME, Gore previously shared his appreciation for the Scottish trio, Young Fathers, who will be joining them on tour.
“I’ve been having to listen to a lot of stuff for remixes and support artists lately,” he said. “A band I thought were very unique were Young Fathers. I’ve been listening to their albums and watching live performances, and they’re just so different to everything else.”
Discussing the new LP earlier this year, the duo also reflected on the passing of synth player and founding member Andy Fletcher back in May 2022, and told NME about their determination to support the next generation of artists.
“It’s a ‘get up and do it yourself’ spirit,” Gahan told NME of what inspires their continuously renewed appeal for new generations of acts. “Do it your way and don’t be told how to. Eventually it will work out for you.”
They also spoke of their appreciation for Welsh electronica artist Kelly Lee Owens – a former NME cover star who the band personally chose as a supporting artist on their US tour dates.
“We were given a massive list of potential support acts; some of them I knew, like Kelly Lee Owens who I actually really liked, and we decided she’d be a perfect fit,” said Gore. “What she does is very atmospheric and it never seems like there’s only one person playing – she really puts her soul into it.”

Google and Universal Music Group are in talks to develop an AI-powered tool for users to create “deepfake” music using other artists’ existing work, the Financial Timesreports.
The deal would reportedly pay copyright owners for the use of their likeness, and they would have the option to grant Google and UMG permission to license their work for the purpose of AI-driven replication.
The news arrives following Google’s release of MusicLM, a powerful generative AI tool allowing users to create music by entering prompts. Considering the company would need to license UMG’s music for creators to reproduce its vocals, lyrics and sounds, MusicLM is most likely a linchpin of the deal.
The deal is somewhat of an about-face for UMG, which controls roughly one-third of today’s global music market. Back in April, the company urged streaming platforms to block AI platforms from being able to leverage their music catalog when training their large language models.
If the two sides ultimately come to an agreement, it could lead to a watershed moment for the controversial nexus of generative AI and music. The scale of the framework would dwarf that of TuneCore, who recently partnered with Grimes to launch a pilot program enabling artists to utilize her deepfaked vocals “without penalty” and distribute the music to streaming platforms for a royalty split.
Meanwhile, Warner Music Group’s CEO, Robert Kyncl, reportedly condemned the proliferation of deepfake technology in the company’s Q3 conference earningscall this week. He said he believes artists should be the ones deciding whether or not their likenesses may be used to create music.
“There’s nothing more precious to an artist than their voice,” Kyncl said, “and protecting their voice is protecting their livelihood and protecting their persona.”

Liam Gallagher and Adidas have released a brand new colourway of their previous shoe collaboration, the LG2 SPZL.
The shoe marks Gallagher’s third release with the brand. According to a press release, the creation of the new shoe came from former Oasis frontman and the Adidas Spezial founder Gary Aspden, after they reunited to create a second colourway of the LG2 SPZL.
The new LG2 SPZL features the same hybrid silhouette the duo created, loosely based on several different historical Adidas footwear references, along with three bottle green stripes, a gum outsole and Gallagher’s portrait on the tongue. The trainers are set for release in September.
Gallagher has signed three pairs of the Adidas trainers from his personal collection, which will be used as part of a giveaway for fans based in the UK. In other news, Gallagher recently covered Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Are You Experienced’ at his intimate show in London’s KOKO venue.
The frontman performed a host of Oasis classics alongside his former bandmate Bonehead, who made his return after being giving the all-clear from cancer last year.
Gallagher is set to perform various other live sets around the UK later this year, including an exclusive headline set at Boardmasters festival on August 12.
Meanwhile, rumours have continued to surround a possible Oasis reunion, with both Gallagher brothers commenting on the chances over the years. Three years ago, in a cover interview with NME, Liam Gallagher said that an Oasis reunion was “gonna happen very soon”. Back in January, Noel then claimed that he would “never say never” to the idea.
However, shortly after Liam accused his brother of doing “a lot of damage” to the brand.
Speaking to NME In Conversation last month about the comeback shows of Britpop peers Blur and Pulp, Noel said: “Blur never split up, did they? Pulp never split up, they just went and did other things, which is the adult way of doing it. Sadly my fucking band were very far from adult about it. It was a bit more crash and burn.”

Boasting six painstakingly curated stages and hosting attendees from across North America and beyond—as well as world-renowned tastemakers like Chase & Status, GRiZ, Excision, Justin Martin, Rusko and Wilkinson—the production level was top-notch. There’s truly nothing like Shambhala.
What gives this festival an edge is the fact that there is no teardown. Year after year, the Shambhala team is able to build upon the farm’s existing properties, therefore making improvements as time goes on. And with the very first edition clocking back to 1998, there’s been ample time to figure out how to best utilize the space.
While fans could arrive as early as Tuesday, the official party kicked off Thursday afternoon. With only two stages open, The Amp and The Living Room, the first day is meant to ease you in. Mat The Alien, Hoola, Cannabliss, Fleetmac Wood and Longwalkshortdock provided standout performances.
As per tradition for the past decade, SkiiTour had a packed audience for their daytime set at The Amp on Thursday. Outfitted with bubble blasters, snow cone machines and stunning dancers courtesy of Cosmic Co-Motion, their sublime performance set the tone for the weekend ahead.

Friday was a scorcher, so many took to the river to stay cool. Luckily, the riverbed adjacent to the property is the perfect place to chill for the day, and it’s even soundtracked by the audio from The Living Room, including music from Def3 and The Librarian.
The Fractal had a five-hour Westwood Recordings takeover on Friday night, featuring performances from K+Lab, Stickybuds, The Funk Hunters, Smalltown DJs and Rumpus. Another notable performance came courtesy of Burchill, who made his Fractal Forest debut this year. For a 4am slot, the forest was packed.

Another interesting thing to note about Shambhala is there’s no re-entry, meaning once you arrive you are there to stay. While this can be a little daunting at first, it’s actually quite special to fully surrender to the camping experience. After all, it’s not like you’re in it alone—every person is roughing it with you and cultivating a palpable sense of community.
By the weekend, everyone on the farm has settled in for the long haul.
On Saturday, attendees were getting groovy at The Grove to Mark Woodyard, followed by a delectable daytime set by Lazy Syrup Orchestra. Hailing from Costa Rica, Bushman delivered his jungle-infused beats while the crowd got playful with an impromptu flashmob dance.
After years of performing behind the scenes—quite literally—Be Hazzy made his debut at Pagoda this year, while the budding Kelowna-based tastemaker KÖL made his return.
As the sun began to drop below the mountains, Mood Swing & Chevy Bass took to the Fractal, delivering a lively performance followed by Danio Management’s Slynk, The Gaff, JFB, Father Funk, Fort Knox Five and Qdup. And after having to cancel a few years prior, GRiZ took to the stage and amazed us all.
Meanwhile, over at the Pagoda, John Summit uncaged a plethora of heavy edits of classic tracks and showcased lots of original music, such as his global dance hit “Where You Are.”
In true festival fashion, Sunday was Sunday Funday.
Hosted by Smalltown DJs from 2-7pm, the Fractal Funk Jam was bumping a selection tracks from hosts Pete and Mike, as well as Charlie Hustle, Shakey, Nick Bike, Duncan Smith of The Funk Hunters, Skratch Bastid, The Gaff, QDup, Fort Knox Five, A.Skillz, Wave Dalton and Slynk. In fact, each artist plays three tracks at a time and they rotate on and off the decks.
In the evenings, it can be tricky to determine the move as there’s always conflicting set times. From The Sponges and Neon Steve, to JPOD, to Wreckno and Of The Trees, there was always something for everyone to enjoy. You can’t go wrong, so it’s important to go with the flow.
Tchami did not disappoint, then we relived moments of yesteryear at RL Grime’s Village performance, which was chock-full of nostalgia and fresh cuts. He was a highlight of the weekend, followed by a Dr. Fresch rager and Frameworks to cap off the experience.
Shambhala Music Festival is returning for its celebratory 25th edition from July 26-29, 2024. Prospective attendees should keep an eye out as tickets go on sale this fall.
