Watch Fall Out Boy give ‘You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave’ its live debut

Fall Out Boy gave ‘You’re Crashing, But You’re No Wave’ its live debut at a show in New York last night (August 4) – check it out below.

The song is taken from their landmark 2007 album ‘Infinity On High’ and was chosen as the night’s ‘Magic 8 Ball’ song, the part of the evening where the Chicagoans dig into their deep cuts and play one of their B-sides and rarities.

According to fans there, frontman Patrick Stump needed the use of a teleprompter to remember the words in the song’s notoriously fast pre-chorus.

Check out fan-filmed footage of the performance below.

Previous ‘Magic 8 Ball’ choices (via Setlist.fm) have included the first performance of ‘XO’ (taken from 2005’s ‘From Under The Cork Tree’) since 2007, the live debut of ‘From Now On We Are Enemies’, and the first live airing of ‘Miss Missing You’ since 2015.

Meanwhile, Fall Out Boy also played an acoustic version of ‘Get Busy Living, Get Busy Dying’ elsewhere in the show, marking its first live performance since 2006.

Last week, they also covered Sinead O’Connor‘s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in honour of the late Irish singer, who had died earlier that day at the age of 56.

Fall Out Boy will be returning to the UK and Europe for a headline tour later this year.

The emo veterans will hit the road for a host of dates, which include shows in Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, and Birmingham and a stop at The O2 in London this October.

The ‘So Much For (Tour) Dust’ kicks off at Warsaw Cos Torwar on October 17 before wrapping up at Berlin Max-Schmeling-Halle on November 8. Support will come from PVRIS and nothing, nowhere.

The 1975’s Matty Healy meets Tom Delonge during Lollapalooza

Matty Healy has met his “hero”, Blink-182‘s Tom Delonge during The 1975‘s headlining Lollapalooza 2023 set. See footage of the moment below.

While singing their eighth song of the night, 2013’s ‘Robbers’ from their self-titled debut, Healy noticed someone walking in the front pit. He quickly ran off stage while singing to hug Delonge, who was watching the set from the photo pit.

“I love you so much, I love you so so much,” Healy told Delonge before making his way back on stage to complete performing the rest of the track. Once the song was finished, Healy told the crowd how he just got to meet one of his rock heroes adding, “And the person who inspired me to talk about my dick as much as I do and I thank him for that forever.”

Elsewhere in the set, Healy poked fun at the band’s current controversy surrounding their Malaysian controversy. Before singing ‘It’s Not Living If It’s Not With You’ the frontman said: “You want my travel tip? Don’t go to…” before getting cut off by the start of the track.

Last month, while performing at Good Vibes Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Healy criticised the Malaysian government and its anti-LGBTQ laws onstage and then kissed bassist Ross MacDonald during their headlining set which was afterwards cut short. The next day, the remainder of the three-day festival was ordered cancelled by the authorities and the band banned from performing in the country.

In other The 1975 news, Healy shared the full audio of himself opening for The 1975. billed as ‘Matty’ – performed a 10-song acoustic set at St Anne’s Park, which included the live debuts of ‘Then Because She Goes’ and ‘Playing On My Mind’ from The 1975’s fourth album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’.

Earlier this week, the group announced a 10th anniversary reissue of their self-titled debut album, and will be performing the record in full at Reading & Leeds 2023.

Check back at NME all weekend for more reviews, news, interviews, photos and more from Lollapalooza 2023.

Joanna Magik Joins Forces With Smalltown DJs for Tech House Heater, "Energy"

Whether you believe in the physics of human energy fields or not, surely we can all agree that being in the company of those we align with can induce a palpable feeling within us. A spark, if you will.

In light of that liminal sensation, rising dance music tastemaker Joanna Magik has teamed up with fellow Canadian beatsmiths Smalltown DJs to deliver a “Energy,” a bona fide dancefloor heater.

Out today by way of Claude VonStroke’s venerated Dirtybird imprint, the tech house heater features Techno Tupac and speaks to the feeling of physically connecting with someone to whom you’re deeply attracted: “Everytime you touch me I feel energy.”

With an entrancing vocal refrain, reverberating synths and a pronounced four-on-the-floor beat, “Energy” exudes a hypnotic club panache. As an amalgamation of Magik’s signature house sensibilities and Smalltown DJs’ production prowess—accrued from decades of experience in the electronic music scene—”Energy” is an ode to techno’s roots with a vivacious house infusion.

“We are stoked to collaborate on ‘Energy’ because it’s a juicy hybrid of our sounds and there’s no better word to describe the vibrancy of our respective DJ sets,” Smalltown DJs said in a statement shared with EDM.com. “It’s a dream to have it released on Dirtybird.”

Listen to “Energy” below and find the new track on your preferred streaming platforms here.

Over the years, Smalltown DJs have garnered acclaim from many of their releases, such as “Do You Want Me” (with rrotik), “Bad Behaviour” (with Dances With White Girls and SkiiTour)” and “Who U With” (with rrotik and Killa Kela). Those records dropped on Box of Cats, Fool’s Gold and House Call Records, respectively.

Meanwhile, Magik has been making waves as of late, releasing her debut EP Got Something / Dancefloor just weeks ago. She has also been a consistent name across Canada’s festival circuit and nightclubs, including Badlands and Shambhala.

Matty Healy shares full audio of himself opening for The 1975

Matty Healy has shared a full audio recording of his solo opening slot at The 1975‘s gig in Dublin earlier this summer, and launched a mysterious new website.

Back in June, the frontman stepped in as a last-minute support act for his own band after Caroline Polachek pulled out of the concert due to illness.

Healy – billed as ‘Matty’ – performed a 10-song acoustic set at St Anne’s Park, which included the live debuts of ‘Then Because She Goes’ and ‘Playing On My Mind’ from The 1975’s fourth album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’.

He also aired some of The 1975’s more stripped-back cuts – including ‘All I Need to Hear’ and ‘Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America’ – before covering tracks by Colin Hay and Donny Hathaway.

Today (August 4) Healy posted a link to the full audio of the gig on his ‘Truman Black’ blog. The show, titled ‘A Musical Performance Of An Intimate Moment’, has been uploaded to the singer’s ‘Truman Black’ account on SoundCloud.

Tune in here:

The same SoundCloud page also contains an atmospheric instrumental song called ‘And Then The Sand We Sink In’, which was uploaded yesterday (August 3).

This composition by Healy was originally featured in the 2017 short film Black Eyed Susan. Starring the frontman’s mother Denise Welch and his brother, Louis Healy, the film is described as “a 15-minute psychological drama” that portrays an episode of depression.

Welch, who previously starred in Coronation Street, has opened up about her struggles with her mental health on numerous occasions. Healy wrote The 1975’s track ‘She Lays Down’ about his mother’s battle with post-natal depression.

Additionally, Healy has today shared some new ‘Truman Black’-themed artwork on his official Instagram profile. Some fans on Reddit have noted that he’s changed his bio on the platform from ‘matty’ to ‘TRUMAN BLACK’ as well.

See that image here:

Naturally, fans are now speculating over whether the new blog and ‘Truman Black’ artwork could signal a new side-project from Healy.

The ‘Truman Black’ website also features a photo of a white ’75 boxset with the name ‘(2013-2023) Singles’. Earlier this week, the group announced a 10th anniversary reissue of their self-titled debut album, and will be performing the record in full at Reading & Leeds 2023.

Speaking to NME last year, the singer explained why he uses the alias ‘Truman Black’ on the internet.

“My transition to fame was different because my mum is famous,” Healy said. “So the reason I’m called Truman Black on the internet is because before Twitter and Instagram and all that, all you had was Facebook. If you knew someone’s name then you could find them on Facebook.

“My mum was on Celebrity Big Brother, which was just catnip for fucking nutcases, obviously, on the internet. They would just find me and send me messages. So I changed my name on Facebook to something obscure. I’d like to say I was reading In Cold Blood but I definitely wasn’t. I’d definitely just seen the film Capote recently.”

Healy went on to say that he’d always found fame to be “a bore”, adding: “I love people liking what I do, but I’m not interested in being famous. I think that’s why I try and subvert [fame] sometimes.”

You can NME‘s video interview with Healy in full above.

The 1975 were recently banned from Malaysia after Healy criticised its government’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws while on stage at Good Vibes Festival. After the speech, he shared a kiss with bassist Ross MacDonald in front of the crowd. The rest of the event was then cancelled, with The 1975 now facing legal action.

Station Underground Collective Poised for Electric "Station Sessions" Release Party in Charlotte

You can’t muzzle Station Underground.

The collective has furiously risen from the L.A. underground, starting out by throwing clandestine warehouse raves before growing into a national promotion brand with events all over the country. Their next one is tomorrow night in Charlotte, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Station Underground’s latest masterstroke comes in the form of a show-stopping remix bundle for “Microphone,” a freeform bass anthem from surging producer BRAINWAVEZ. Spanning seven tracks, it’s an ideal encapsulation of the sound they’re pushing: nasty, non-formulaic electronic music borne from community.

c/o Station Underground

Ozztin kicks things off by way of a wonky trap remix, where filthy saws crawl through the mix like spiders in the brain. D0min0 follows with his own heavy-hitting rework before SQUEDA stomps in with a squelchy hybrid trap rework. KRVKEN then comes in hot, dropping a no-holds-barred drum & bass rendition.

One of the EP’s surefire highlights comes from DBLCRWN. His genre-defiant remix starts with a quirky breakbeat drop before slithering into a wild trap segment where vocoded vocal chops slice through a thick low end. GREM then follows with a pulverizing riddim remix before Kinetick brings it all home with an inventive house flip.

All in all, the remixes signal a bright future for Station Underground, a powerhouse tastemaker in the making. They’re now poised to celebrate with an electric “Station Sessions” release party in Charlotte tomorrow, August 5th from 8pm to 2am.

Take a listen to the full “Microphone” remix package below.

Karol G makes history as the first Latin female artist to headline Lollapalooza 2023

Karol G has made history by becoming the first Latin female artist to headline the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.

No Latina artist has ever headlined the famous music festival since its inception back in 1991. The first Latino artist to headline the event was J Balvin back in 2019. Taking on the first day of the four-day fest, G’s set began at 8:40 pm and went on for two hours.

The Colombian singer has reached a few other milestones this year such as being the first Latina in history to reach the Number One spot on the Billboard 200 chart with her album ‘Mañana será Bonito’. The previous Latin singer to hold the spot was Bad Bunny with 2022’s ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’ and 2020’s ‘El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo’.

She is set to release her fifth album, ‘Mañana será Bonito (Bichota Season)’ on August 11 via Interscope. Visit here to pre-order the album.

In a five-star review of G’s history-making Lollapalooza headlining set, NME shared: “The performance and set list is perfectly edited for both old fans and new, and the importance of the history-making moment is palpable. Whether it be the doodle-like stage design that reflects her album artwork her band made entirely of talented women or her sweet interactions with the crowd, G easily cements the festival’s choice to have her close out night one.”

In other news, the singer is currently on her ‘Mañana será Bonito’ tour across North America. Her upcoming stops include two nights at New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium. Visit here for any remaining tickets.

Back in June, the singer also shared ‘WATATI’, one of the songs featured on the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig’s box office hit, Barbie. Other artists who contributed include Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, Dua Lipa, Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj and Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.

Check back at NME all weekend for more reviews, news, interviews, photos and more from Lollapalooza 2023.

David Guetta Nabs Miami Waterfront Mansion Listed at $69 Million

David Guetta is literally putting the “house” in house music, spinning his way into Miami’s luxury real estate market after purchasing a lavish waterfront mansion.

The terms of the final sale have not been made public, but the property’s page on Zillow last listed it at a cool $69 million. We’ve opted not to include a link to the listing for the sake of Guetta’s privacy.

Located in a secluded enclave known as “Billionaire’s Bunker,” the spectacular, 15,578-square-foot home has 12 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. It sits on 1.23 acres in a guard-gated village with its own 18-hole golf course and country club.

The dance music superstar purchased his new digs from famed Miami Beach developer Todd Michael Glaser and his partners, The Real Deal reports. The property reportedly sold for $23.8 million in 2021 before Glaser and his team demolished the existing home and started construction on a new one.

Zillow

Two summers ago, Guetta spun his catalog of dance hits into a massive deal with Warner Music, who acquired the rights for a figure north of $100 million. The music giant nabbed Guetta’s worldwide catalog from the last two decades and inked a new pact for future recordings at the time.

He joins quite an inner circle on Indian Creek Island Drive. Members of the neighborhood’s upper crust include NFL legend Tom Brady, billionaire hedge fund manager Eddie Lampert and Hotels.com co-founder Bob Diener. Guetta’s home is also next-door to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s property, per The Real Deal.

Ciara attracts backlash for new collaboration with Chris Brown

Ciara is facing criticism on social media over her new collaboration with Chris Brown.

The Texas-born singer teamed up with Brown on the single ‘How We Roll’, which was released today (Friday, August 4). It’ll appear on Ciara’s forthcoming EP ‘Ci Ci’ (out August 18).

Some fans, however, have questioned the R&B artist’s decision to work with Brown again after he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009.

He has since been accused of assault multiple times. In 2021, Brown was under police investigation after a woman alleged he had “smacked the back of her head so hard her weave came off”. That case was ultimately dismissed owing to “insufficient evidence”.

Upon ‘How We Roll’ being announced earlier this week, numerous fans took to Twitter to air their disappointment in Ciara. “Cute. A domestic abuser,” one person tweeted. “What a shining example.”

Another asked: “Why is Ciara platforming Chr*s Br*wn knowing he’s an abuser?”

Elsewhere, a Twitter user criticised Ciara for choosing to collaborate with Brown over “all the upcoming rappers” who could’ve featured on ‘How We Roll’.

Someone else wrote: “Disrespect of black women will continue as long as black women keep allowing it to happen. Why are you all still supporting him? Why are you supporting the women that choose to be associated with him?”

Another said: “Every time an artist (especially female) collab with this man, I wonder how they’re going to explain it to their children. How do you explain to them that you don’t care about his long rap sheet or his victims because he can dance and carry a tune?”

You can see those tweets and more reactions below.

Ciara toured with Brown back in 2005. Additionally, he featured on the singer’s track ‘Turntables’ from her 2009 album ‘Fantasy Ride’. Around the time of the record’s release, Ciara explained that she’d considered removing Brown’s vocals after he was charged with assaulting Rihanna.

But she ultimately decided to keep Brown’s contribution. “I wanted to focus on the music and leave it at that,” she told MTV News, “because it’s a record that I’ve had for a while, I love the way it sounds and it’s one of my most favourite records on the album.

“And if I alter it, it’s not gonna sound the same. So for me, really it’s nothing more than about the music, so I kept it there.”

However, Ciara said it “definitely took time” for her to come to that decision.

Ciara has not yet responded to the criticism surrounding ‘How We Roll’.

Earlier this year, Chlöe Bailey defended her Chris Brown-featuring single ‘How Does It Feel’. Brown, meanwhile, took to Instagram in February to rant about the “hate” he still gets for a “mistake” he made when he was younger.

In 2022, Jordin Sparks joined Kelly Rowland in defending Brown after he was booed by audience members at the American Music Awards.

Joey Bada$$ also defended his decision to collaborate with Brown following a backlash from fans, saying “people make mistakes”. In 2021, Lizzo was criticised online after footage emerged of her calling the singer “my favourite person in the whole fucking world”.

Last Heroes deliver expansive debut album on Lowly, ‘All I See, You See Me’ – Dancing Astronaut

Last Heroes‘ debut album is here. Over a year ago, they set out to the mountains of Colorado with a singular goal of refining their craft and focusing their energy on the body of work that would become their debut album. Now, their creation is ready for the world to hear on Lowly.

All I See, You See Me shows off the Denver-based duo’s refined production skills, perfectly blending different genres and soundscapes across a 12-track album. And it captures the feelings of euphoria and sadness, energy and calm, and everything in between. It’s deeply moving while maintaining an ease of listenability and while diverse in style, the album remains cohesive.

The meaning behind All I See, You See Me is an extension of why Last Heroes started the project in the first place. The valorous moniker came to be through the duo’s hopes of creating a platform that would bring people together, and remind everyone that they have a purpose in life. Big or small, visible or not, everyone has an impact that ripples and the message and meaning behind their debut album is no different.

“‘All I See, You See Me’ is a representation of everything we have been working to accomplish in music. The album really feels like a piece of us, reflecting on past experiences as well as the moments we lived while writing it. It’s so unreal to finally have it out in the world.” – Last Heroes

Last Heroes have methodically risen the ranks since they formed in 2016 and All I See, You See Me is the culmination of their efforts. Everything they’ve learned along the way—through collaborations with legends like Seven Lions and Tritonal, remixes for Gryffin and ILLENIUM, and solo projects like their ‘Finding Light’ and ‘Threads’ EPs—gave them the skills they needed to put out a body of work as ambitious as this. Previously delivered singles like one of Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of 2023 “Odd Ones Out,” “Stay The Night,” “I Love You Enough To Let You Go,” “Back Now,” and “Atmosphere” were released in the rollout to the album’s full release.

The album arrives the same day Last Heroes kick off their debut headline tour in San Francisco at The Midway. The 14-stop tour features dates in Denver, Los Angeles and New York to name a few. Listen to Last Heroes’ debut album All I See, You See Me, released via Lowly, below.
