David Guetta Nabs Miami Waterfront Mansion Listed at $69 Million

David Guetta is literally putting the “house” in house music, spinning his way into Miami’s luxury real estate market after purchasing a lavish waterfront mansion.

The terms of the final sale have not been made public, but the property’s page on Zillow last listed it at a cool $69 million. We’ve opted not to include a link to the listing for the sake of Guetta’s privacy.

Located in a secluded enclave known as “Billionaire’s Bunker,” the spectacular, 15,578-square-foot home has 12 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. It sits on 1.23 acres in a guard-gated village with its own 18-hole golf course and country club.

The dance music superstar purchased his new digs from famed Miami Beach developer Todd Michael Glaser and his partners, The Real Deal reports. The property reportedly sold for $23.8 million in 2021 before Glaser and his team demolished the existing home and started construction on a new one.

Two summers ago, Guetta spun his catalog of dance hits into a massive deal with Warner Music, who acquired the rights for a figure north of $100 million. The music giant nabbed Guetta’s worldwide catalog from the last two decades and inked a new pact for future recordings at the time.

He joins quite an inner circle on Indian Creek Island Drive. Members of the neighborhood’s upper crust include NFL legend Tom Brady, billionaire hedge fund manager Eddie Lampert and Hotels.com co-founder Bob Diener. Guetta’s home is also next-door to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s property, per The Real Deal.

Ciara attracts backlash for new collaboration with Chris Brown


Ciara is facing criticism on social media over her new collaboration with Chris Brown.

The Texas-born singer teamed up with Brown on the single ‘How We Roll’, which was released today (Friday, August 4). It’ll appear on Ciara’s forthcoming EP ‘Ci Ci’ (out August 18).

Some fans, however, have questioned the R&B artist’s decision to work with Brown again after he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009.

He has since been accused of assault multiple times. In 2021, Brown was under police investigation after a woman alleged he had “smacked the back of her head so hard her weave came off”. That case was ultimately dismissed owing to “insufficient evidence”.

Upon ‘How We Roll’ being announced earlier this week, numerous fans took to Twitter to air their disappointment in Ciara. “Cute. A domestic abuser,” one person tweeted. “What a shining example.”

Another asked: “Why is Ciara platforming Chr*s Br*wn knowing he’s an abuser?”

Elsewhere, a Twitter user criticised Ciara for choosing to collaborate with Brown over “all the upcoming rappers” who could’ve featured on ‘How We Roll’.

Someone else wrote: “Disrespect of black women will continue as long as black women keep allowing it to happen. Why are you all still supporting him? Why are you supporting the women that choose to be associated with him?”

Another said: “Every time an artist (especially female) collab with this man, I wonder how they’re going to explain it to their children. How do you explain to them that you don’t care about his long rap sheet or his victims because he can dance and carry a tune?”

Ciara toured with Brown back in 2005. Additionally, he featured on the singer’s track ‘Turntables’ from her 2009 album ‘Fantasy Ride’. Around the time of the record’s release, Ciara explained that she’d considered removing Brown’s vocals after he was charged with assaulting Rihanna.

But she ultimately decided to keep Brown’s contribution. “I wanted to focus on the music and leave it at that,” she told MTV News, “because it’s a record that I’ve had for a while, I love the way it sounds and it’s one of my most favourite records on the album.

“And if I alter it, it’s not gonna sound the same. So for me, really it’s nothing more than about the music, so I kept it there.”

However, Ciara said it “definitely took time” for her to come to that decision.

Ciara has not yet responded to the criticism surrounding ‘How We Roll’.

Earlier this year, Chlöe Bailey defended her Chris Brown-featuring single ‘How Does It Feel’. Brown, meanwhile, took to Instagram in February to rant about the “hate” he still gets for a “mistake” he made when he was younger.

In 2022, Jordin Sparks joined Kelly Rowland in defending Brown after he was booed by audience members at the American Music Awards.

Joey Bada$$ also defended his decision to collaborate with Brown following a backlash from fans, saying “people make mistakes”. In 2021, Lizzo was criticised online after footage emerged of her calling the singer “my favourite person in the whole fucking world”.

Church from Chemical Brothers’ ‘Brothers Gonna Work It Out’ artwork now Grade II* listed


The church featured on the cover art for The Chemical Brothers’ compilation album ‘Brothers Gonna Work It Out’ has been given Grade II* status.

As The Guardian reports, the Our Lady Of Fatima Church in Harlow, Essex was upgraded from a Grade II listed site by the government on the advice of Historic England. The move will protect the modernist building’s historic and architectural significance.

It is said that the church’s appearance on the cover of the dance duo’s 1998 album was not a factor in upgrading its protected status.

However, the Old Lady Of Fatima Church’s innovative “in-the-round” design and freestanding altar in the centre of 500 seats did contribute to its significance, as did the building’s colourful glass windows.

The church – complete with a tall needle spire – was designed by British architect Gerard Goalen between 1953 and 1954, and construction was completed in 1960.

Sharing the news on Twitter yesterday (August 3), The Chemical Brothers’ Ed Simons wrote: “Harlow church on Chemical Brothers album cover granted protected status 🙏🙏🙏.” See that post below.

The ‘Brothers Gonna Work It Out’ cover art features a photograph of the church on a blue-skied sunny day. A group of people are seen gathered by the entrance, while a notice board outside displays the album’s title. Check it out in the tweet above.

In other news, The Chemical Brothers have announced their 10th full-length record ‘For That Beautiful Feeling’, which is out next month (pre-order here). It’ll follow on from 2019’s ‘No Geography’.

The band also shared a new single, ‘Live Again’, last month.

The Chemical Brothers recently wrapped up a series of festival slots across Europe, including an appearance at Glastonbury 2023.

Mindchatter Announces New EP, Drops Introspective Single "Day Dreams"

Mindchatter’s awe-inspiring creative output is seemingly endless. Following the release of his forthcoming EP’s lead single “Growing Pains,” he’s now returned with “Day Dreams.”

“Day Dreams” is an introspective look into the mind of Mindchatter and a descent into escapism. As reflective as it is beautiful, the song uses its charming topline to weave through its fluttering synths and subtle percussion. The beat itself is refreshingly unique, adding even more depth to Mindchatter’s meditative project.

Last year, Mindchatter released his thought-provoking sophomore album DREAM SOUP, giving fans more than enough to mull over for the remainder of the year. He’s now revealed a new EP, Spiritual Puberty, due out on September 22nd via ODESZA’s Foreign Family Collective imprint. The six-track project is a coming-of-age tale that delves into into his own quarter-life crisis.

David Hockney’s Harry Styles painting to go on display at National Portrait Gallery


A painting of Harry Styles, created by renowned English artist David Hockney, is set to be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

The painting is one of over 30 new portraits that will be showcased for the first time in the Trafalgar Square gallery. They will all be featured as part of a new installation, titled David Hockney: Drawing from Life, which will open on November 2.

The portrait of the pop star was created by the veteran artist in his art studio in Normandy, France, where Styles sat for him. It depicts the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer wearing blue jeans, a pearl necklace and an orange and red striped cardigan, sitting facing forward.

Other portraits set to feature in the upcoming display include a painting of Hockney’s late mother, Laura, fashion designer Celia Britwell, former partner Gregory Evans and people from his local community in Normandy.

Although the exhibition will see many of Hockney’s works being displayed publicly for the first time, this isn’t the first time that the collection has been showcased in the National Portrait Gallery. Back in 2020, the original collection of artwork was open for visitors, however only remained open for 20 days, with the gallery closing due to the pandemic.

As reported by The Independent, as well as having 33 new works, there are also colour-pencil drawings, created in Paris in the early 1970s, as well as a selection of drawings from the 1980s – made during a period where the artist created a self-portrait every day over a period of two months.

Combined, the exhibition will see a total of around 160 of Hockney’s works displayed, collected from both his public and private collections.

“Closing this five-star exhibition after just 20 days in 2020 was incredibly disappointing for the gallery and its many visitors,” said Sarah Howgate, senior curator of contemporary collections at the National Portrait Gallery.

“Now revitalised with over 30 new energetic and insightful painted portraits of friends and visitors to the artist’s Normandy studio, it is a real privilege to have the opportunity to collaborate with David Hockney again.”

Additionally, the Director of the National Portrait Gallery, Nicholas Cullinan, added: “Hockney is one of the most internationally respected and renowned artists today, and to see his new portraits, made over the last couple of years and which demonstrate his constant and continuing ingenuity and creative force, is life-affirming.”

This isn’t the first time that Harry Styles has been represented in an artistic form in recent weeks. Last month, it was reported that there were seven new wax figures of the former One Direction member made for display in Madame Tussauds.

The majority of the looks captured in the waxworks are taken from looks Styles wore during his recently-concluded Love On Tour shows, and are set for display in London, New York, Hollywood, Amsterdam, Berlin, Singapore and Sydney.

New Music Festival to Take Place in Historic Stone-Carved Valley of Wadi Rum

Promoters have become more and more creative with the locations of festivals as electronic music continues to prove its commercial value, but Medaina Festival may have taken the crown for the most interesting yet.

Medaina Festival is set to take place in the ancient, stone-carved Valley of the Moon, best known as Wadi Rum in the Hashebeat Kingdom of southern Jordan. Festival-goers will traverse the age-old valley beginning in Petra, moving through the Valley of the Moon over its five-day span.

Thanks to its extraterrestrial beauty, the locale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is nicknamed “Mars on Earth.” Medaina is by far the most ambitious festival so far from promoters Tithorea, who have organized events all around the globe, like San Miguel in Mexico, Cappadocia in Turkey, Nosara in Costa Rica and Transylvania in Romania.

“After scouting many countries and cities we landed on Petra and Wadi Rum in Jordan,” Shahin Mani, co-founder of Tithorea, told MILLE. “I believe these locations have very strong cultural and historical elements that will be inspiring for our audience and will also serve as very unique and aesthetically pleasing locations to create a mind-blowing production aligned with the culture, history, and geo elements of the place.”

Those eager to attend still have quite a bit of time to get their travel plans organized. Medaina Festival is scheduled for May 22-27, 2024 and tickets are not yet on sale.

Thomas Bangalter “relieved” over way Daft Punk ended


Thomas Bangalter – one half of Daft Punk – has revealed that he was “relieved” over the way that the band ended.

The musician, who founded the French electronic duo with Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo,  was speaking as part of a new interview when he reflected upon his time in the group, and recalled his feelings towards calling it quits back in 2021.

In the discussion with BBC Radio 6 Music, Bangalter explained that it “felt good” to draw the project to a close and was sometimes left surprised by how long Daft Punk continued to make music, following their 1997 debut album, ‘Homework’.

“The question I ask more myself is why we did end it rather than how it could last for so long,” he said after he was asked why they decided to part ways. “It’s a lot like a story or mini saga – sometimes there’s a TV show that has a special place in people’s hearts and it keeps that place, and it runs for one, two, three, four, five, sometimes 10 seasons.

“There’s a moment where it ends and I think it’s actually interesting to have this opportunity to start, have the middle and to end it… [I was] relieved and happy to look back and say: ‘OK, we didn’t mess it up too much.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, he also shed insight into their reasoning behind the anonymity when starting Daft Punk, and explained why they chose to wear their signature masks.

“You have an idea when you’re like 25, [but] you don’t say ‘You know what? We’re going to dress up like robots until the day we die…’,

“I really remember thinking – it would be fun to just have some special effects guys from Hollywood do these personas – robotic personas like if they were part of the cantina scene in Star Wars or something like that,” he added. “It was a weird idea and neither me nor Guy-Man ever imagined it would end up taking such proportions.”

In a separate interview back in April, Bangalter once again explored the reasons behind the band calling it quits in 2021 – revealing that he wanted to distance himself from his technology-inspired sound.

“I love technology as a tool [but] I’m somehow terrified of the nature of the relationship between the machines and ourselves,” he said. “Now the story has ended, it felt interesting to reveal part of the creative process that is very much human-based and not algorithmic of any sort.”

Following their split, Bangalter announced his first solo album in over two decades, ‘Mythologies’ – which was originally conceived as a ballet score and performed at Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux last July.
